Came here on a whim because we were so thirsty driving up to Berkeley, and was looking for something to drink. This place was shown first thing on Yelp, so why not. Though I didn't order any of their Thai Tea related drinks, I got the strawberry lemonade with lychee popping boba while my friend was intrigued and got the coco cha cha. The ambiance and service was great. It had a chill and calm vibe to it. The drinks were delicious and the presentation was so pretty. I will say that the drinks are on the pricer side considering they do charge for the cups and the Berkeley fee. I do want to come back though, but it's way too far from me :( read more

Coconut water with whipped thai tea? I AM ALL IN. this is the "Coco Cha Cha" on the menu. I really enjoyed this drink as a refreshing alternative to your typical creamy thai tea. They also have a variety of other styles of thai tea here! Thai tea with lime, lychee thai tea, and more! There's also many fresh fruit drinks, like strawberry lemonade, avocado slushy, and more. The inside of this cafe is quite minimalistic and a chill place to do work. Small place, but there's also lots of snacks and good vibes. read more

I usually, or rather, seldomly drink milk tea, let alone Thai tea. Do you know how much caffeine is in Thai tea?! That stuff makes me shake at night until the early 3-4ams lol. Anyways, I am in LOVE with the Thai tea made at Cha. A perfect blend of milk and Thai tea leaves. The sweetness: "not too sweet", aka the golden standard of what an accepting Asian elder would say, lol. Absolutely magical. I can't say that I didn't drive to Berkeley with my partner JUST for this Thai tea. That's how wonderful it is! I have yet to be adventurous enough to try the coconut water with Thai tea foam. Perhaps that'll be my next drink here. Long story short: get the Thai milk tea with boba. Hands down, you won't regret. I've visited twice and have always been served by a kind gentleman. I presume he's the owner? Also, this place has some decent table space for Cal kids to study or chat with friends. It's not super spacious, but enough for a quick Thai tea chat and run! read more

7.31.2024 - Snack time! Cha has been on my bookmarks for some time now. No reason to venture out to Berkeley as I live in the city. But today, after hiking with my gf @ Stonewall Panoramic Trail, I had to take this opportunity to finally try them out! Super kind and friendly ladies behind the counter that gave us some recommendations. When items are recommended, you take it! And that's exactly what we did. Thai iced tea - Very strong Thai tea flavor, perfectly balanced creaminess, but, it was a bit on the sweeter side. Next time, I'll have to ask for less sweetener. I love the small cubed ice that they use. It looks good and it also keeps the drink extra cold/refreshing. Pang Cha - Thai iced tea in blended form with 3 extremely scrumptious toasts! Must try!!!! Maybe because this was blended, it wasn't as sweet as the original Thai Iced Tea version. And my goodness, their idea of placing 3 pieces of crunchy, yet, chewy toasts drizzled in what seems like condensed milk created fireworks in my mouth. How can something be crunchy, chewy and melt altogether? It was recommended to dip-dip in the blended Thai iced tea and enjoy all the toasts before enjoying the drink itself. I've never had anything like this. Super creative! They also served each drink in a wooden coaster. Super adorbs! Avocado toast and Smoked Salmon toast were both a bit underwhelming. The bread appeared to be the same as the thin toasts that were served in the Pang Cha. The avocado spread was as thin as the toast. Even the Smoked Salmon toast felt pricey for the portion that was served. The staff was kind to cut each toast in half and plate them separately for us to enjoy. They were good snack, but not worth $22.60 good. Will be back to try some other drinks that they offer. Most likely will pass on the snacks. read more

Cha Thai Tea is a cute cafe on Shattuck, a few blocks from downtown Berkeley. They have a handful of tables with outlets nearby, and a tasteful but minimal interior. The cafe menu is mostly drinks and also has deserts. The drinks are a bit more expensive, because they are using real fruit. I was initially attracted to the cafe to try the "Coco Cha Cha" drink, made with a high quality coconut water and a whipped thai tea cheese topper over crushed ice. It was much better version of Thai tea because it was less sweet, less creamy, and yet refreshing and still a nod to the original drink. My partner got the "Mango Cloud", a whole fresh mango blended with a cheese cloud and ice. read more

place is not that spacious but they provide tables and seats. quite comfy there. first time here and the menu is not having many variants. order through the staffs and they are nice and attentive. for drinks and snacks: 1. lime thai black tea: so refreshing and between the tea and lime are blended perfectly. taste is not that sweet and not too sour. this drink is recommended and for your information: i only asked for fifty percent sweetness 2. cha thai milk tea: too sweet for my tongue though asked for fifty percent sweetness 3. mango sticky rice: may be is not mango season, the mango is a bit sour. i love the sticky rice but coconut milk needs a bit more on it 4. banana cocoa toast: it is just ok prices are average and for tea lovers: you should try this place... read more

A cute little tea shop specializing in Thai tea and Thai cafe light meals and snacks. The space smells like fresh wood and the seating space is compact and cozy. Drinks taste high quality and the straws are bamboo so environmentally friendly but don't disintegrate like paper straws. Fast and simple counter service. Seems like an one man operation here. Love the look. It's a clean little shop with indoor seatings and outlets. My only problem is ordering online would require you to get their compostable cups. Only speaking for the drinks here.. theyre actually pretty good. My only complaint was the cha thai milk tea turned out to be really sweet. I recommend lowering the sweetness level. read more

The hubs and i were craving Thai tea and finally stopped by this place to give it a try... I mean Thai tea is literally in the store name. Drinks- 10/10. We got the cha Thai tea in both hot and cold.Both were such a hit. It is a bit sweeter than your average boba shop's Thai tea, but we still thoroughly enjoyed it. The tea flavor was nice and strong which is honestly what sets it apart from all the average Thai teas. For the cold, we got it with boba and regular sweetness. Boba was a good consistency. For the hot, it was both our faves! Maybe it was because it was rainy and cold but still hit the spot really well. Also gotta preface this by saying I never had hot Thai tea before or maybe I didn't notice it as a thing but was perfect for a cold winter day. Ambiance 10/10- Clean and welcoming vibes. Small cozy store with a few places to sit. Service 10/10- The man who rang us up and served us was so friendly and nice. Overall, will definitely come here again. If you're thinking "it's Thai tea, how special can it get?", just give this place a try. Def will be my new go to for Thai tea. read more

The store is so clean and I love creative they are with their menu. I'm a huge fan of how they use fresh fruits for their drinks. I had ordered the mango coco which is mango with homemade coconut milk. The drink itself was delicious, just wish it was more sweeter. I also ordered the Lychee Thai black tea. You can taste all three flavor profiles Lychee, Thai tea and Black Tea. The drink itself was too sweet but once the ice melted I was delicious. I LOVE the nugget ice they use for the drinks! I can tell they use high quality ingredients which really makes the drink taste even better. I can't wait to come back and try more drinks in the future! read more

I love this place so much. Every drink is good, but my top picks are the Thai tea frappe (Pung Cha) , mango with coconut cream (Mango Coco) , and Matcha Coco and Coco Breeze. I was craving boba and on a time crunch, so I stopped by Cha Thai Tea, since it was one of the few boba spots that was on the way without me having to take a detour. Parking is street parking, so it may be hit or miss, but I found metered parking right outside this time. Good service, the employee was welcoming. This is my second time here - I ordered the Cha Thai Milk Tea again because I liked it a lot last time and I also ordered a Mango Coco Slushy because it sounded pretty refreshing for the hot day. I ordered less sweet for both drinks and less ice for my Thai milk tea. At less sweet, the milk tea tasted so overly sweet, even more sweeter than last time and I specifically asked for less ice because I had so much ice on my last visit, but I still got a cup full of ice after specifically requesting for less - the cup was at least about 75% - 80% ice. The slushy tasted more of a sour / tart mango taste without much of a coconut taste to it. Also, the boba portion given for each drink was not a lot, which was a bummer. read more

This rlly was the best matcha latte I've had at a boba place - probs bc of the ceremonial grade. The cheese foam was indeed super good as the staff said. Pretty intense and not too cheesyyy. Minimal seating although it is a bit calmer and nice to read/study inside. Will be back for this drink:) read more

We saw how well reviewed this spot was, and decided to give it a try. The shop itself is very well decored and quite cute. Not too much seating, but feels more like a togo spot anyways. We got the thai tea and a matcha drink. The Thai tea was overall fantastic; strong tea with the classic Thai tea flavor. Good level of creaminess, and the boba I added was also high quality. A bit warm at first, but just letting it sit for a few minutes allowed it to firm up properly. My one complaint was that 50% was still much too sweet for me; heads up that their drinks run sweet! The matcha drink was also decent, but again too sweet, which overpowered the matcha flavor itself. Would definitely go back if in the area! read more

Cute little cafe on Shattuck Ave. Parking is okay but you'll most likely not find it right in front unless you go at a less busy time. I tried their popular drink and it was like a blended smoothie. Thai tea taste was good, not too strong. Pandan toast was okay. Enjoyed the vibes of this place. read more

One of my best friends reccomended this place since she goes to UC Berkeley here, and as someone who doesnt go here, I WISH I could for this place! The place is located in a nice area; I wonder how it's like at night. We came in early in the morning and there was already music playing with a kind worker inside. My and my party had a few drinks, here are what I think after trying them-- Coco Cha Cha - This drink was reeeefreshing. I wish I got this one as well. It has a very light and airy feeling that makes you want to take another sip. Its fun to mix it! Cha Thai Milk Tea - This is the OG drink here, and I liked it. If you want just the right blend of Thai tea, you got it here. Orange Thai Black Tea - Honestly? I didn't really taste the thai in this, but the blend of orange is distinctable. It's another light drink that would be good on a sunday day. I like that you get a slice of orange in it as well! Pang Cha - This was my drink, and if theres a drink to try.... get this one!!! I wish I could have more pieces of it. The toast is another sweet combo, with condensed milk drizzled all over and dipped in thai that makes it even more good. I was savoring every bite- if you ever have seniorita bread (Shoutout to them!), it tastes like that. Added with Thai tea though?? Wow, I never knew I needed this. I would DEFINITELY reccomend this place if you are a fan of thai tea. As a lover girl of it, it gets my stamp of approval. I cant wait to come back to Berkeley and visit this place again. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I came along this place walking by and I had to stop in and get a taste! This is the first thai tea specific shop I've seen in Northern California and I was so excited to try. I was not disappointed. I got the Cha Thai Milk Tea and absolutely loved it. It is more of an authentic Thai Tea than an American Thai Tea you would find in a typical Thai restaurant. The tea is not to sweet and they even seem to froth evaporated milk on top. I will definitely be back next time i'm in the area! read more

This is definitely the spot for all tea lovers that need STRONG tea! and I'm not kidding cause I couldn't sleep until 3am Anyway, this cafe in Shattuck Ave is very aesthetic and has the sweetest staff. There are a couple seatings with outlets by each table. Tho I am not sure about the wifi situation. *Pang cha ($8) - thai tea slushy topped with three small slices of butter toast. Since it is slushy, it was not too sweet! And the toast was just the best - buttery, drizzled with condensed milk, giving great balance of sweet and savory taste. *Matcha coco ($7.50) - so refreshing for summer! I opted for less sweet and it definitely was not sweet at all. The matcha was quite smooth. There were bits of coconut it in. And add extra boba and glad that the boba was really chewy. If you like somewhat sweet drinks, definitely order regular sweetness cause the drinks are not too sweet to begin with. read more

With so many boba places out there, the selections can get a bit boring! So I was super excited to see a black sesame thai tea fusion drink and even happier that it tastes as amazing as it sounds. It's the perfect amount of nuttiness with a caffeine boost from the thai tea. I ordered 25% sweetness, which is their minimal level, and it's perfectly sweet enough for me (it's akin to 50% sweetness at other boba shops like Ume or Heycha). I don't like my drinks super sweet, so if they had a 10% I think it would be more perfect. Please open one in South Bay so that I don't have to come all the way here for a yummy drink! read more

A new beautiful cafe. Not a lot of room for studying, mostly a place to sit and catch up with a friend over dessert. The owners are very sweet and very accommodating. I got the thai milk tea - I did request it to be less sweet which made it better. However, despite it tasting fresh - it seemed like it had powder milk instead of half&half giving that artificial thai tea flavor. We, of course had to get some desserts. --Pandan toast: the best one in the Northern Bay! The pandan sauce has a really good consistency and is not overly sweet! They'll toast the white bread and pour the pandan sauce on it. What would make it better? - if the toast was thicker actually, not like a brick toast, but just a little bit thicker, so the proportion of the sauce to the toast is better. You can also think - just get less sauce, but thats the whole point of the dessert, so you dont want to cut that back! --Mango sticky rice: very good for a quick mango sticky rice dessert! Mango was a bit small but I think its bc of the size of mango at this time of the year. Sticky rice was perfect though, and it was warm too. Definitely will be coming back with more people! read more

Love love love this tea shop on Shattuck in Berkeley. A slightly tucked in storefront with very friendly staff and a nice selection of teas + drinks + boba. The avocado smash w honey boba was perfectly sweet at half-sugar. Thai Milk Tea was both strong and creamy. Will definitely return. oooo! i like this place. they specialize in thai tea but also have different drinks as well. thai tea flavor was definetly there and it was soo tasty. the only thing i would tell them to imrprove on is their straws. it broke the instant i like touches it. investing in better straws would be good haha. anyways the drink came out quick and service was nice! read more

I love the tea here. It's delicious and they use the nugget ice which works so well. It's a great addition to the Berkeley boba tea scene. The cafe itself is adorable on the inside and super nice to have a seat and chat for a bit. Further the people working are always very sweet and helpful. I do have two suggestions: 1) use real boba cups that seal on top 2) have Thai green tea! With those two things it might actually become my fave boba place on the Shattuck side. read more

Love seeing an environmentally conscious cafe! This place boasts all sorts of compostable/recyclable containers and utensils. The ambiance and staff was really friendly and welcoming, with nice music and quite a bit of seating for the small space! I tried their passionfruit thai tea, avo smash, and pandan toast and loved all of it. I really appreciated the customizable sweetness level of the drinks and that the toast was warm when served. This will be a go to place for me! read more

I went to Cha Thai Tea 5 times in a week because I went with different friends each time. Their Thai Tea is soooo good. Love their mango slushy and sesame topped Thai tea as well. I want to keep this place a secret but I can't lie, this place is my favorite tea spot in Berkeley Their playlist is identical to mine and the ambience is really nice. I tried a few different drinks here and they are all delicious. The Lychee Thai Black Tea is a personal favorite. My fiancé loves the Passion Fruit one. Their new sunrise drink with Thai tea and root beer was very good; I thought the flavors complimented each other well. The staff are always super friendly! read more

It was barely sweet, 50% is the lowest sweetness you can set for this drink. Large chocoberry bliss, warm, 50 sweet (which was the recommended sweetness): It's a non caffeinated drink and can only be hot or warm. It tastes of dark chocolate with strawberry. It reminded me of hot chocolate but with a strawberry milk flavor, I liked it and would recommend trying it when it's in season if you enjoy sweets and chocolate in particular. Cheese creamer black tea, no ice, 0% sweetness, large cold: The tea is truly bitter when at 0% sweetness, which is what I intended. A generous thick amount of creamer on top. It doesn't mix easily with the tea. Note that on Snackpass, they add another $0.25 onto the price of your drink for "city cup fee" - referring to City of Berkeley's fee charged for plastic drink cups. I have found they're usually pretty fast at making the drinks and they may be done earlier than what Snackpass estimates. Sometimes you may need to get the attention of one of the workers as they can be occupied working and aren't always at the counter looking at you.

The boba was fresh but it's the kind you can buy from the supermarket to make at home yourself. Nothing crave-worthy. For what it's worth, it was well-made. For the area, there are certainly other places you can go for boba. At least the non-dairy milk swap only had a $0.50 adder, a bit less expensive compared to other places.
