Do not linger in the lot to avoid getting pan handled. The restaurant is spacious. The lady who was waiting tables was super hard working on our visit. The food was about the same as other V. Places we have been to. Spring rolls were good. Chicken wings were very good but we do not like the lemon pepper sauce. The house special bowl was also good. Pricing is probably comparable to similar places. Payment is by cash, card, or tap. Overall, not a bad place and worth a try, but not a 5 star experience in our opinion. I really wanted to like this place, and I was excited because there are few options in Pasadena for Vietnamese food. -1 star for staff professionalism (Server yelling in the kitchen was a little concerning. Never have I ever had such a sugary bowl of pho in my life. My 5 year old loves sugar and even she didn't like it. Ended up eating the soup lukewarm. -1 our server was a young man (he was working really hard and looked overwhelmed while a lady bossed him around and delegated tasks to clean tables while he served a majority of the restaurant. He was actually great, and we felt so bad for him. The lady took my payment and I commented how busy it was, in which she looked confused and said "uhhh no?" So I responded with "well that's funny because our side of plain noodles came out very late". This lady gave absolutely zero care in the world. Not a thank you, not a ho-hum, nothing. One star because the egg rolls were bomb. Other than that, nothing else was impressive. My daughter declared that dinner was in fact not dinner at all tonight. Pricing was reasonable, but not for the quality and lack of emotional awareness within staff. I wish I spent my money elsewhere because this experience was highly disappointing. Came by 26 Viet Cafe in Pasadena and was impressed by both the food and drinks. They originally started in Vancouver and recently opened their first SGV location. The menu has a lot of variety and everything we tried tasted fresh, authentic, and flavorful. We started with the ube coffee and matcha coconut cloud. Both drinks were creamy, smooth, and strong in flavor without being overly sweet. Perfect pick-me-up drinks. The snack platter was great for sharing and came with fried chicken wings, spring rolls, egg rolls, grilled chicken, and pork. The standout for me was definitely the egg rolls -- super crispy on the outside and filled with meat, vermicelli, and wood ear mushrooms. For the mains, we ordered the house special combo rice, beef short rib salad, woven noodles with beef short rib, and the special pho. The meats had a delicious smoky grilled flavor and were cooked really well. The pho came loaded with different cuts of beef and the broth was rich, savory, and comforting. I won't say that it's the best Vietnamese restaurant that I've ever been to, but it's still a solid choice worth trying out at least once if you're in the area. The food was decent, overall. I've had more impressive pork chops elsewhere, but their add-on items are fantastic (appetizers, drinks, desserts, etc.). From what I can see, the add-on items are discounted compared to what they would cost if ordered separately from an entree. The availability of chili oil at the condiment bar is admittedly a unique touch here. Service was satisfactory overall. My wife found this place in her never ending search for good Vietnamese food near us since we got back from Vietnam. We came around 11:30am on Friday to a mostly empty restaurant. The menu was interestingly in English and Chinese, but no Vietnamese, so we had to ask if the seafood soup was bun rieu and if the crispy pancake was banh xeo, and the server said yes to both. It took about 10-15 minutes for our food to come out, but it was worth the wait. The bun rieu flavor was the best we've had since Vietnam, and we added some of their homemade chili oil/paste and shrimp paste that my wife always asks for, and it deepened the flavor. The banh xeo was solid, but it was mostly bean sprouts in there with a few shrimp that had unpeeled tails - no pork. Interestingly the only fresh vegetables they gave were bean sprouts, Thai basil, and lettuce - no mint or banana blossom or other traditional Vietnamese veggies - maybe I should have asked. We got the mango sago dessert, which I enjoyed and thought was refreshingly tart and creamy. My wife asked the server where they get their chili oil, and he said they make it in house, and he got us a small container of it to go. Overall a solid spot near some of our usual stomping grounds, so we will probably be back! If the owner is reading this, please peel the shrimp before putting it in the banh xeo (and add some pork). I was so very pleasantly surprised by the few dishes I ordered. I will be coming back to try some other things, but for my first trip I tried the bun bo hue and rare beef beef. The bbh came out much more red and fragrant than a lot of places I've had recently. The soup was oh so very deeply beefy, porky, and savory. It even had an actual slight kick to it, a stronger one than most bbh I've had recently. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I will say I am a bit sad the bbh isn't served with pork knuckles, but given the location and the menu, I understand. The beef slices were super amazingly tender. The rare beef pho was much more savory than I anticipated. In the sense that a lot of southern pho tends to lean towards more oniony sweet and I appreciate the much more umami savory broth this place had. Just a personal preference! Parking: small lot in front and not sure about the side. There is street parking, but it's main street. Place was popping when we went on a Sunday around 12 (obviously). Luckily came right when someone was leaving so didn't have to wait really. Staff was still getting used to everything, but they were nice and got our orders in really quickly. I always finish this dish and most places leave me feeling unsatisfied, but this location gave me just enough to not feel that way. I was happy to see a new "pho" restaurant open up in my hometown, and without a second thought, my Mrs. and I ducked in. It turns out that this new spot is much more than simply a noodle soup place-- there were several cool fusion-ey creations on the menu that immediately made us want to return before we had even finished our first visit! I ordered the dac biet for all intents and purposes, and it came with a fall-off-the-bone braised rib, along with the other accountrements and assorted cow-building materials. Any good pho-phile knows it's all about the broth; theirs is a nice mix-- clear, good beef flavor, and just the right amount of basil and anise on the back end of the slurp to give it some awesome context. Mrs. Picante ordered up the tai chin, and she said it was among the highest quality meat she has enjoyed in a bowl lately-- no gristly chewy pieces (which of course, I like with all the tripe and tendon you can throw my way)... but she's just not that into chew. Anyway, the place just opened, and the servers were a little green-- kind and hard working kids, but still learning the ropes. Laid back ambiance, with a casual vibe-- t-shirts and shorts sort of place, but with a nice push towards sophisticated if you wanted to show up in business casual. There is not even really any art on the walls just yet, but flat screens showed colorful landscape images of (I assume) Vietnam. Another note on the service: the server was really kind to walk my wife through which sauces may have gluten (because she can't...) and he was patient and cheerful. "Dishonor! Dishonor on your whole family! Dishonor on you! Dishonor on your cow!" A bowl of disappointment for the price point, the worse Bun Bo Hue in my life and I'm not being dramatic. THE WORST! It's like someone played the game of telephone on what is Bun Bo Hue and the chef is cooking with jumbled and limited instructions. This restaurant totally missed the mark by missing key ingredients... where is the pork?! They just had two half circles of sausage and the rest was thin beef slices more suitable to Pho. The broth had some heat to it but was lacking a depth that maybe some shrimp paste or fish sauce could improve. It was like an instant soup mix reconstituted with some cayenne chilli flakes thrown on top. This soup, undeserving to be called Bun Bo Hue was brought out and served with no veggies. When staff was asked for veggies they looked confused and rectuluntatly brought out the a dish of lime, basil and bean sprouts the same they served with Pho. OK I wasn't expecting banana blossoms, but maybe some thinly sliced cabbage would have been nice. For not a busy restaurant on a weekday dinner time, the timing of the kitchen was off. The Pho we ordered came out in 5 minutes while the Happy Hour chicken wings came at the end of the meal with the "bun bo hue" coming in dead center. They're just still soft opening but we wanted to try the place. Parking is convenient in the strip mall and it's close to the rest of the Hastings Ranch area. We came in on a Friday night and found some people waiting for takeout and lots of tables free so we got seated quickly. The place was pretty big. The menu had lots of Vietnamese dishes including pho, bun, rice combos, banh mi, and curries. You can get extra meats, rice/noodles/bread with many of the entrees and also other deals where you can add single appetizers or desserts to your meal. We got the pho and banh mi. They're still in the soft opening phase so the pho came out very fast while the sandwich did take a bit of time. We noticed the same for other parties as well, the pho dishes came almost immediately but the rice dishes seem to take longer or were batched made with several orders. Pho was delicious and fragrant. There is a slight buzz on social media about this place, so you know people are coming here out of sheer sheepness (like me). And, as with most all soft openings, it'll have its shortcomings. They are short-staffed here and it shows. Service is slow. If it's not an app or pho, it will take a while. And you pay up at the door where the cashier is. They don't have enough staff I guess to hand you your check and then retrieve it. I don't know. Ordered the following: - Snack platter - 6.5/10: three level tower: bottom level, nice-sized portion of sliced pork chops; second level, egg rolls and spring rolls; top level, fried chicken wings. Chops were fine and so were the egg rolls. Spring roll wraps were too tough and chewy. And the wings were way too salty. - Sliced beef rib with rice noodle - 5.5/10: this took about 40 minutes to reach my table. It's basically Korean kalbi that's sliced for you. Wasn't expecting that, but that's exactly what I tasted. The meat was lukewarm, too. Waiter apologized and said there was a mixup. My guess is that they forgot the order and it was just sitting around back in the kitchen. Either way, the meat was a bit tough. As for the noodles, they had the texture of sticky rice and didn't do a whole lot for the dish. And they were lukewarm as well. My friend had the pho and she said it was just OK. She was done before I got my dish. Yes, it's their soft opening and they're still working things out, so I'm certain service will improve and the experience will be better. But the bottom line here for me is the food is pricey and it's just mid. At any rate, there's a whole lot more Vietnamese places to explore in the SGV that are much cheaper and a lot better. It's leaning towards traditional since it had the tendon and tripe in the soup! Most pho places exclude these items. They also added a whole beef rib as well! The rib was off the bone, and had good flavor. I think it was cooked separately than the pho broth since it had a slightly different flavor than the broth itself. Nonetheless, it was excellent. We also had the snack platter, which is a menu item containing three tiers of food. From bottom up: grilled chicken and pork; steamed spring rolls, fried spring rolls; and chicken wings. This was a whole meal in itself.. just needed rice! lol The noodles were a bit clumped together, probably from being just slightly overcooked, but they still had their chewiness. I think we visited this restaurant because of a tiktok video. They have plenty of options on the menu which is great for people looking for variety. Portion of each dishes were great. However, spring roll was a bit average. Their sauce doesn't really give "a kick" to the flavor, slightly bland imo. Pork and chicken was not bad. This eatery has been opened about three weeks. I saw it and chose to test out their food. I ordered the lemon grass chicken with rice and salad. It was flavorful but the chicken was not that hot or the rice. I tried the matcha green tea coconut drink it was very delightful. They have Pho and other customary items on the menu. Service was incredible and it's very trendy inside with nice immense seating and furniture. Manageable parking is located in front of the restaurant. Food was amazing !!! Definitely coming back again , unique flavors in comparison to other Vietnamese restaurants i grew up with in sgv. Lemon grass chicken bamhmi was a hit. I was driving around looking for lunch and decided to give the place a try. I think they opened recently. There is a large dining area and not many people there so was easily to get seated. I ordered the rare beef pho and was surprised that they did not have Thai ice tea so just had water. The soup is in a very large bowl so it was a lot. The soup broth was good and a lot of noodles and beef slices. Since it's a new place they shpuld be more concerned about their customers. I did not have anyone ask me how I was doing. read more
