(+) Strawberry Matcha Malaya is a Filipino coffee/drink/small bites restaurant that opened a few months ago. It is outdoor only, with a cute patio designed to entertain in the cool summer nights. The kitchen was closed when I visited, so another review will be written at that time. Drinks: I ordered the strawberry matcha. Milk alternatives are available. The matcha was bold. Strawberry flavor was done well and altogether, a decent drink. With all the matcha drinks available now, I would rank it a 7.5/10. I'll give their coffee a try next visit.

Malaya is as hot as Mariah but when she was younger and brought forth the thunder like the boys from down under. I ordered their signature latte which was the Malaya and it comes with a nice blend of brown sugar and cinnamon with condensed milk plus a cream top. My tastebuds told me it was fire and I know for sure they're not a liar. The service was pretty good and they have a little small patio area with a big screen. Not sure what they play on there but they have one. I've tried most of the flavors on the menu at other shops so this probably the only one I'll ever order unless they roll out seasonal ones. The parking is huge lot so you'll never have to worry about it. And that's my take on it, Peace out...

Malaya has a special place in my heart because there's not a lot of Filipino coffee spots one could go to in the SGV. It's such a cool, unique spot and even on a hot day they have the mists running for their customers to keep them cool. I got my banana drink and it came out way too fast (I was enjoying the mists). You could slightly taste the banana but still really good. I want to try their ube drink next time I stop by. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating so very pet friendly.

This place has a lot of potential, but I wish they served freshly whisked matcha instead of premade matcha from a bottle. The matcha tasted slightly like coconut and didn't have much of a matcha flavor. It was more milky than anything. I do appreciate that there's plenty of parking, but other than that, I don't see myself coming back, especially not for $8.29 after tax. Lol. (I only put pricing because if I'm paying that much for a drink it better be worth it)

**Food doesn't open until 9am on the weekends!! Drink review only!** We came here initially for food and drinks right at opening time on a Sunday morning 8am but didn't know food wasn't open until 9am. Oh well! Service was fast and the restaurant has beautiful filipino inspired mural with a lovely outdoor seating. Definitely reminds me of outdoor eateries from Boracay! Love that outdoor means it's dog friendly too! We tried the seasonal Melon Matcha and Sago't Gulaman drinks instead and they were so so tasty! The melon matcha tasted like cantaloupe and the Sago't Gulaman had some caffeine to it, which definitely elevated the drink! I'm definitely coming back to try more of their drinks and to finally taste their food!

Exciting newer filipino matcha coffee spot that also serves Filipino food. Takeout vibe so only outdoor seating but they have outlets. + Sweet melon matcha ($8.20): first melon matcha I've had, so refreshing. Cantaloupe juice w matcha and matcha foam so it is quite sweet (8/10) + Lychee coco matcha ($8.50): seasonal drink very pricy but will appreciate all the unique flavors. Coconut water w matcha and lychee foam wasn't as overly sweet so perfect (8.5/10) + Mango matcha ($7.50): the mango flavor is reminiscent of the Asian mango gummy candy. Most subtle in sweetness (7.8/10)

Coffee doesnt feel strong but the flavors were. I prefer the caramel banana over the malaya signature. The malaya signature tasted like horchata and the caramel was like a caramel macchiato with a hint of banana. I would've preferred if the coffee was stronger. But will try their matcha next time. They have so many different flavors. Cute place that has a tv to watch the world series. The only downside is that there is only outdoor seatings so it could get hot. They did however have a portable ac unit that was turned on. So maybe it will when it gets hot.

I came here to try a new spot for coffee. I got an ube latte and a mango and pistachio and chocolate ensaymadas. The ube latte was great and the ensaymadas were not too sweet. It was fluffy and light. I definitely want to come back and try other items too. The customer service was awesome. The barista recommended the chocolate pistachio ensaymada and I am so glad I listened to him. It is very nicely set up with an outdoor covered patio area to sit. It was clean and had a beautiful piece of art on the wall.

Stopped by Malaya in Arcadia, a fairly new Filipino-inspired coffee spot with unique drink flavors. I liked that they incorporate Filipino flavors into their matchas and lattes since it gives the menu something different from the usual coffee options. I ordered the ube cream latte which had a strong, earthy coffee flavor and wasn't overly sweet. My friend got the pandan matcha which was lighter, creamier, and more milky. We also tried the ube churros and these were probably my favorite item we ordered. They were super crispy on the outside while staying soft inside. The sauce also wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated, and I liked the Oreo crumble topping that added extra texture. I noticed they also have food items on the menu, so I'll definitely be back to try more next time. Nice spot to check out if you're in the area and looking for coffee with a Filipino twist.

This was a solid matcha/coffee spot with a Filipino twist. I had to try the seasonal melon matcha, consisting of fresh melon juice, matcha, and some sort of cream top. The melon juice and matcha combo was so refreshing and perfect for summer. I didn't prefer the cream top, I found it detracting from the juice/refreshing edge of the drink. The fresh melon juice was so good though so it wasn't a deal breaker. There was a lot of easy parking and the outdoor seating is very reminisce of cafes in the Philippines. Service was a bit on the slower side for drinks, but it was worth the wait! Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying the food.

I love Malaya. Seeing their expansion has been so fun. They prove that Filipino food isn't a trend, it isn't temporary, but it's really making its own lasting waves. My pride for Filipino food popping up throughout the San Gabriel Valley has made for a very happy heart. Malaya specifically is such a nostalgic & present-time fusion. From a spam breakfast sandwich to a maple bacon enseymada. Not to mention their matcha, malaya signature, and their turon/banana caramel flavored latte. All ordered with oatmilk for extra creaminess! Had such a fun convo with one of the owners about the space they locked in at Arcadia and how creative they can get with the outdoor, drive-in type of space. Also, it's a GREAT work from home spot with outlets galore and open air seating. For someone who tends to actually work from home but loves her change of scenery and needs that breath of fresh air outside of both home and office space... Malaya's second location is exactly what I needed. The nostalgic and cultural details are additional, happy, bonus points that are always an automatic gravitational pull for me whenever I'm driving within the area. Waiting to go back and try more of the menu real soon! Have a little chat with the owners. It adds to the warmth of the experience because I loved hearing about their ideas and where the name Malaya rooted from. To me, it's what reminds me of how much the filipino culture is pulsing throughout the heart of LA. Cheers to many more visits and places that highlight the beauty of Filipino culture and flavors. Malaya is really one of so many more I hope to give a little shout out and recognition to. One thing if ever, I'd love to try the spam breakfast sandwich but on a pandesal instead! Just to throw it out there and see.

So excited to have heard that Malaya was expanding and with a lunch a menu. As a fellow Fil-Am, I'm always rooting for more Filipino spots opening to showcase a piece of my culture. I came around the time of their soft opening. I ordered a caramel banana latte, and it was really good! I also ordered a spam breakfast sandwich and it was good. My only thing is that I wish it was a little cheaper for a sweet treat, but I guess with all coffee shops, everything is so much more expensive now. Hoping that coffee shops won't charge extra for milk alternatives in the future.

Had to give this spot a second try since there is a Doordash promo of 45% off orders of $12+! The Malaya Signature Latte ($7.50) consisted of espresso with milk and cocoa powder. I enjoyed the coffee wasn't too strong and overpowering. I got it with regular ice and oat milk (+$0.25) and it was stuffed with plenty of ice but not a big deal. It was creamy and milky. It wasn't too sweet since I got it quarter sweet. The hint of cinnamon and cocoa made the drink very good so overall, I enjoyed this drink. The Pandan Matcha ($7.25) was decent. I got it iced with oat milk (+$0.25) and half sweet. The Matcha wasn't as strong in flavor as I like and the quality was just ok. I don't think they handwhisk their matcha or use ceremonial grade matcha but not a big deal. The Pandan was quite subtle and not too sweet. I thought this drink was more milky than I was expecting so I thought it was just alright. Overall, I prefer the coffee over matcha drinks and the price feels slightly high but I'm glad I gave this spot another try. NOTE: Don't forget to request for straws otherwise it doesn't come with them!

Yi's Cafe is a spot on the corner of a street that is a bit unassuming, with just two tables and a bit of seating outside. But don't let that fool you, this is one of the best cafe experiences Arcadia, and even SoCal, have to offer! Even though it was my first time, it felt like I'd known Eric for years. His friendliness, down-to-earth style of handling things, and open communication about wait times were highlights of the amazing customer service here. We waited approx. 20 minutes for our food and drinks, and were offered two free pastries along with it. We got a banana chip muffin and a matcha muffin, both phenomenal quick bites that satisfied our cravings and hunger for a bit while we waited for our food. We ended up spending about $23 for two entrees, two drinks, and two muffins. The bang for your buck here is unbeatable. I've never seen anything like it. The two entrees we picked were Yi's Beef Burrito and the Chicken Pesto Panini. Both were delicious and hearty, feeling more like a nostalgic meal from back home than lunch out. The drinks are quite literally $4. $4 for a coffee nowadays is like winning the lottery on your first try. No better feeling. Both were amazing, with bold coffee flavors and strong notes of tiramisu and cookie butter. No notes at all. Overall, I think this place does exactly what it needs to. It's a small, corner shop-style cafe with an owner that cares about his customers, remembering "usual" orders and having conversations with them while making their drinks. He's patient, hardworking, and deserves all of the success he gets! I hope Yi's Cafe is around to stay, because I will definitely be back! 10/10.

Pistachio Coconut Velvet (5/5) A summer/seasonal drink that is worth raving about. It's super refreshing from the coconut water, yet creamy and luxurious from the velvety pistachio cream. They are generous with the pistachio bits that they coat on top of the pistachio foam. I devoured this drink it less then 2 minutes and almost went back for a 2nd cup. 2. Tea-cube Special (5/5) This is a simple, yet, satisfying cup of traditional milk tea. It's made from a black tea base + milk + tea-cube topping.
