Great location and service, but the food could use a little more love. The location is convenient with ample parking, which is always a plus. They also have a nice outdoor patio where you can wait for your order or eat. I especially appreciated the rotating fly fans on each table because apparently even the flies know where the food is. I came on a Friday around 11:30 a.m., and there was a steady stream of people lining up to order. Thankfully, they seemed to have enough staff to keep things moving, and everyone I encountered was courteous and pleasant. My 3-star rating is mostly about the food. I had been looking forward to trying one of their rice bowls, but unfortunately, they no longer serve them. Instead, I ordered the mushroom empanada and tuna melt empanada. Both were on the dry side and, considering the size, felt a little overpriced. The tuna melt was especially disappointing because there wasn't much "melt" happening in my tuna. Some of the mushrooms in the other empanada were also a bit hard (either slightly undercooked or just tougher pieces). I also tried the calamansi juice, which was a simple, traditional preparation. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly memorable either. For dessert, I had the ensaymada. I personally prefer ensaymada to have that rich, buttery, brioche-like texture. This one reminded me more of a soft baked pandesal on the inside, so it didn't quite hit the spot for me. Overall, the location, parking, patio setup, and friendly staff are definite positives. I just wish the food matched the experience. A little more attention to texture, presentation, and portion-to-price ratio would go a long way, especially at these prices. I had a lovely experience at Malaya (Arcadia). I ordered the Double Ube Latte ($7.50 + 79 cents tax). It's two shots of espresso, ube condensed milk, milk, and ube cream top. It's reminiscent of the Smoking Tiger Coffee Lab chain, but there's a cuddly Filipino twist. AMAZING COFFEE!!! I felt awake and happy. (Important: Cash is not accepted. Bring Card or Contactless Payment. Also, there is NO restroom at this location.) I arrived at Malaya (Arcadia) on Tuesday (around 7:48AM). Parking is available. The parking lot surrounds this business. Staff is very friendly and hardworking; however, it feels understaffed. I noticed only one lady, and it was difficult to get her attention whenever she worked in the back. I noticed a couple customers awkwardly waiting as nobody manned the register. Fortunately, when I had arrived, there was no wait. My coffee was ready in one minute and 45 seconds. Quick! As mentioned, I absolutely LOVE the Double Ube Latte ($7.50 + 79 cents tax). It perfectly balances decadence with utility. It's lightly sweetened with the fresh flavor of ube while also carrying a robust, familiar coffee flavor within. I felt all my stress melt away as I sipped this smooth, elegant coffee. I wanted to break into dance as I embraced this memorable, delightful flavor. In addition, the cup arrived picturesque while not being crammed with ice. The coffee came plentiful. Concerning ambiance, Malaya (Arcadia) is very UGLY and BAD. It's embarrassing if bringing someone here to study... The seating area is outdoors. I noticed cobwebs in its crevices. Several aggressive flies also flew about. The "tables" are these thin long counters, and the seats are made of cheap plastic. The view is also AWFUL. Customers are greeted with the funeral chapel from across the street. If you turn your head, you're instead greeted with a dumpster. And the nearest restroom is at a gas station. However, if you can ignore the bad ambiance, there is utility. There's customer internet with password; details are on the counter's glass. There's also seven electrical outlets. WOW!! I also liked the soft music that played from the speaker. Still, I recommend using Malaya (Arcadia) as an order-and-leave spot to reduce disappointment. Overall, despite the BAD ambiance, Malaya (Arcadia) offers unique and strong coffee. The Double Ube Latte is perfection in a cup. It's one of my favorite coffees in the SGV. Personally, I'd happily drive 30+ minutes to savor this lovely brew one more time. Malaya is as hot as Mariah but when she was younger and brought forth the thunder like the boys from down under. I ordered their signature latte which was the Malaya and it comes with a nice blend of brown sugar and cinnamon with condensed milk plus a cream top. My tastebuds told me it was fire and I know for sure they're not a liar. The service was pretty good and they have a little small patio area with a big screen. Not sure what they play on there but they have one. I've tried most of the flavors on the menu at other shops so this probably the only one I'll ever order unless they roll out seasonal ones. Malaya has a special place in my heart because there's not a lot of Filipino coffee spots one could go to in the SGV. It's such a cool, unique spot and even on a hot day they have the mists running for their customers to keep them cool. I got my banana drink and it came out way too fast (I was enjoying the mists). Coffee doesnt feel strong but the flavors were. I prefer the caramel banana over the malaya signature. The malaya signature tasted like horchata and the caramel was like a caramel macchiato with a hint of banana. I would've preferred if the coffee was stronger. But will try their matcha next time. I came here to try a new spot for coffee. I got an ube latte and a mango and pistachio and chocolate ensaymadas. The ube latte was great and the ensaymadas were not too sweet. It was fluffy and light. I definitely want to come back and try other items too. The customer service was awesome. The barista recommended the chocolate pistachio ensaymada and I am so glad I listened to him. It is very nicely set up with an outdoor covered patio area to sit. Stopped by Malaya in Arcadia, a fairly new Filipino-inspired coffee spot with unique drink flavors. I liked that they incorporate Filipino flavors into their matchas and lattes since it gives the menu something different from the usual coffee options. I ordered the ube cream latte which had a strong, earthy coffee flavor and wasn't overly sweet. My friend got the pandan matcha which was lighter, creamier, and more milky. We also tried the ube churros and these were probably my favorite item we ordered. They were super crispy on the outside while staying soft inside. The sauce also wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated, and I liked the Oreo crumble topping that added extra texture. I noticed they also have food items on the menu, so I'll definitely be back to try more next time. The fresh melon juice was so good though so it wasn't a deal breaker. There was a lot of easy parking and the outdoor seating is very reminisce of cafes in the Philippines. Had such a fun convo with one of the owners about the space they locked in at Arcadia and how creative they can get with the outdoor, drive-in type of space. Also, it's a GREAT work from home spot with outlets galore and open air seating. For someone who tends to actually work from home but loves her change of scenery and needs that breath of fresh air outside of both home and office space... Malaya's second location is exactly what I needed. The nostalgic and cultural details are additional, happy, bonus points that are always an automatic gravitational pull for me whenever I'm driving within the area. So excited to have heard that Malaya was expanding and with a lunch a menu. As a fellow Fil-Am, I'm always rooting for more Filipino spots opening to showcase a piece of my culture. Had to give this spot a second try since there is a Doordash promo of 45% off orders of $12+! The Malaya Signature Latte ($7.50) consisted of espresso with milk and cocoa powder. I enjoyed the coffee wasn't too strong and overpowering. I got it with regular ice and oat milk (+$0.25) and it was stuffed with plenty of ice but not a big deal. It was creamy and milky. It wasn't too sweet since I got it quarter sweet. The hint of cinnamon and cocoa made the drink very good so overall, I enjoyed this drink. The Pandan Matcha ($7.25) was decent. I got it iced with oat milk (+$0.25) and half sweet. The Matcha wasn't as strong in flavor as I like and the quality was just ok. I don't think they handwhisk their matcha or use ceremonial grade matcha but not a big deal. The Pandan was quite subtle and not too sweet. I thought this drink was more milky than I was expecting so I thought it was just alright. Overall, I prefer the coffee over matcha drinks and the price feels slightly high but I'm glad I gave this spot another try. I've been wanting to try this place and when I saw they opened a second location I finally went. I ordered the Pandan Matcha, Pandan Churros, and Ube Ensaymada. Everything was great! The Pandan Matcha had a good matcha flavor, the pandan part was light in flavor so the drink wasn't overly sweet. Lately when I've been trying new coffee shops other place's matcha drinks always just taste like milk - so I appreciate that their matcha here was the perfect shade of green for my personal liking. The churros were fresh and crispy with a pandan glaze and toasted coconut flakes on top - I loved it! My favorite part was the Ube Ensaymada. It was extremely soft and pillowy - it reminded me of my childhood. I definitely want to try more of their flavors! They have a pick up window and some seating in an outside covered patio area if you're wanting to dine there. Their personal parking lot also made it easy to access. rounded my rating up from 3.8. came on juneteeth for a girls' hangout. the area was my old stomping grounds so i was excited to see an asian cafe open in what used to be a taco place decades ago. their food and beverage menu sounded enticing and i'm all for new cafes opening in 626. the food options work for a heartier breakfast or lunch. got their limited matcha with cantaloupe and the adobo bowl. wanted to love this place but the matcha and adobo didn't quite hit the mark for me. matcha was muted by the cantaloupe - i suggest a more umami blend to pair with it instead or adjusting the ratio of juice to matcha. the bowl came with garlic rice which was delicious by itself, but the adobo was too salty. i personally had never had adobo, but asking my friends who have, they agreed it was overseasoned. perhaps if the garlic rice wasn't seasoned, it would have been more balanced. also, some acidity from a pickle would have offset the salinity too. friends ordered the spam sando, caramel banana latte and ube latte. they enjoyed their drinks and i i thought the sando was delicious! despite missing the mark for my items, service was spectacular and they even offer discounts beyond the typical healthcare worker/first responders, which i really appreciated. i would go back to try other things and hopefully i'll find something more enjoyable! read more

Came on a Sunday around 230pm. We ordered the ube crème and signature malaya latte. There likely was a huge rush but it took us 15 min to order and another 35-40 minutes to receive our drinks. It looked like they were understaffed and poor guy making the drinks he was all by himself and doing his best. We noticed that customers in front of us were having issues with their orders and we think this could be improved if Malaya gets a mic/speaker to call out the orders and maybe check receipts to ensure the customers are picking up the right order. It was hard to hear what names were being called with the music playing in the patio area. I recognize they were understaffed but I hope Malaya Arcadia improves their processes because I do want this place to succeed. The ube crème latte didn't have enough ube, it mainly just tasted like milk and the Malaya signature latte tasted like a normal brown sugar latte. I'm not in a rush to come back but if I do, I'd like to try their food options. I am hopeful more food items will be added as they establish themselves here, especially ethnically interesting foods! They are located in the downtown area, with plenty of parking and an outdoor patio. Their location has tons of parking available on the street and in the lot. I stopped by on Thursday 30 minutes from closing (oops) and they still had a few people ordering! They have a beautifully painted mural on the side of the ordering window and plenty of outdoor seating available to enjoy your food and drinks. The person that took our order was very nice and gave us recommendations on what to get since it was our first time here. Food ($15.75): Queso Ensaymada (8/10): This was my first time ever having an ensaymada and wow, need it again. It's a soft, freshly baked brioche bun with melted cheese and a sweet white sauce on top. It was peel-able and warm! The saltiness of the cheese helped added a nice touch to the sweetness of the bun and the sauce (?) that was drizzled on top. Plain Matcha Latte (6/10): This one was honestly my fault... I read through multiple reviews from other people saying that the sweetness of the matcha could be balanced out by the cream top (it did not). The person taking my order did warn me that the plain matcha had no sweeter. It was still drinkable but wasn't as enjoyable as I prefer matcha lattes to be. Filipino coffee and brunch eatery that took over the old Bentoya and Flavor Fusion location on 1st Ave. ample parking. The food begins at 10am, which lines especially on weekends will develop. But for good reason, as it's quite tasty! We enjoyed their Spam Breakfast Sando, which had a nice spicy kick with their Chili crunch aoli sauce. The Lumpia was pretty standard but had a nice dipping sauce with it. The other standout was their Ensaymada (like the Spanish sweet bread with buttery topping). It was a very good small bread pastry, however just pricey considering it was $6.50 each. Tried their original, but they also have many other flavors (ex Guava and Red Velvet, etc) Their coffee was nice, but not as much of a standout as their food. This new Filipino café has taken over the former Flavor Fusion space, and I love how they've brightened it up with lively Hawaiian flower murals. I stopped by for a drink after a Lagree class nearby. They were pretty busy, so it took a while before someone took my order, but the cashier was very kind and friendly once she helped me. I ordered a pandan latte with oat milk, which came out to $8.84 after tax, definitely on the pricier side for a small drink. The espresso itself was rich and flavorful, but I couldn't taste any pandan at all. By the time I realized it, I had already walked a couple of blocks back to my car, but it did make me wonder if pandan flavoring was forgotten. I ordered their strawberry matcha and added the cream top for 75 cents. The total for this drink was around $9. This is probably one of the most enjoyable strawberry matchas I ever had. They use real strawberry puree and it's not artificial tasting at all. From my opinion, I wouldn't get the cream top next time since it's hard to mix it with the plastic straw as it bends. The lid isn't the one where you can sip from. The matcha is whisked well, no clumps. The drink is also creamy. I wanted to try this place since it just opened. It was busy but not a long wait. The patio house, tables, and chairs to sit and enjoy your food or specialty drinks. I ordered the Malaya chicken bowl. It was tasty however the chicken was cold. I work near by so I'm sure I'll be back to try some other items. read more

We ordered: -Banana Caramel Latte -Malaya Signature New coffee shop in the SGV! I enjoyed their banana caramel latte--it wasn't too sweet and had a rich caramel flavor! :) The banana taste was more on the subtle side, though, and I wish it stood out a bit more. The Malaya Signature had a bold cinnamon-forward flavor that kind of overpowered the rest of the drink for me. It's definitely unique, but not my personal favorite. The shop itself has a cute, tropical vibe--perfect for catching up with friends! Service was okay and our drinks were made quickly. read more

Waited about 20-25 mins for the tapa plate. I didn't realize that everyone was also waiting for their food. Overheard a guest who was getting frustrated for waiting over 20 mins for a sandwich. Tapa plate was mid. They brought out the drinks so quickly... but.. since I waited for the plate, had to drive to my friends, the drinks started to get diluted. By the time we drank the matchas, they were already watery. The strawberry matcha seemed like it used strawberry milk rather than a puree. I guess next time I'll stick to drinks and come on a slower day. But there were about 6 people working at the time I went, so I'm not too sure what happened there. read more

I got their Spam Breakfast Sando ($13) and a matcha latte with oat milk ($8) I got the matcha latte half sweet and asked if they had simple syrup but they only had agave, brown sugar, and one other option I can't recall. I asked if they normally will have simple syrup but didn't get a straightforward answer so I'm not sure. The matcha latte was okay but not worth the price. It's premade in a squeeze bottle and has a bad aftertaste. The spam breakfast sando was okay. It was a little plain overall, I wish it was seasoned a bit more and on top of that, at $13 it was pricy. They don't have a bathroom which is a bummer especially since they serve food and drinks. We ended up having to leave because of that. The stools for the counter seating are too short to be comfortable for the height of the counter. The trash was also overflowing and stacking up with nowhere for us to put our trash before we left. I hope in the future they improve their seating and keep a better eye on the trash situation. read more

Stopped in this morning to grab some coffees while they have their soft opening! It's an outdoor ordering window with a cute patio area next to it. They also have their own little parking lot. We got the Ube Creme Latte and the Caramel Banana Latte. Both drinks were delicious and the flavors were well balanced. The only thing I'd note is that I wish they used 'sippy cup' lids instead of straw lids for the cream top drinks so I don't have to take off the whole lid to sip on it. Service was very friendly as well. Will definitely be back to try their food and more drinks since I work close by!! read more
