They always come out in a timely manner and food is consistent. They also offer the chutneys complementary which is a nice bonus. My family has been going to chat Cafe for years. We like their food, specially the Keema naan and Seekh kebab. Last time when I ordered at the restaurant on the phone I spoke with Raj. I placed an order for $74. When Raj finished taking the order, he told me he needed a credit card and I was surprised because I have been ordering with them for a long time and no one has ever asked me for a credit card before. He kept insisting that he would not take the order without a credit card and I told him I do not feel comfortable providing a credit card on the phone. I asked to speak to a manager and he claimed that there was no manager there and there was no way I could talk to him on the phone either. He kept saying he had worked for the Restaurant for 15 years. He then said that either order online or come in and place your order. I looked online and they do not have any ordering service that belongs to the restaurant. They only have Uber and DoorDash. I am not a member with either of them. My husband got frustrated and called the restaurant again and the phone was answered by Raj who took his order and this time did not ask him for a credit card! I was completely speechless. Does this restaurant have different requirements for men and different requirements for women? what is going on? And what kind of a restaurant will not allow you to talk to the manager. I found Raj to be extremely rude and condescending. This is not the kind of customer service one expects from a restaurant that you go to regularly. We discovered Chaat Cafe late one evening while driving home. Since then it is our go to dinner choice whenever we have the opportunity. Sure there are plenty of places to have Indian food, but this is the real deal - traditional recipes, and at a very reasonable price. The authenticity of the dishes is superb! Everyone who has served us there has been pleasant and accommodating, and since we have become regulars, we are greeted every time we are there with the warmest and most inviting smiles. I can't believe I've never written a review for this place. It's been my go to Indian spot for years. When I get struck by a craving for Indian food, this is my lifesaver. I like that you can easily order at the counter to go, making it a good "fast food" option. I also came here for my birthday lunch back when dining in was allowed. We had around 8 people but were able to push tables together. Since each person can pay for themselves, it takes away the headache of splitting the bill. Paneer Tikka Masala or Chicken Tikka Masala $9.99: I switch between these 2 depending on what I'm in the mood for. Honestly, if I could have the sauce by itself that would be preferable. I've never asked though. This is the a la carte price that comes with basmati rice or plain Naan. It's $3 extra to make it a dinner with vegetable, dal, rice and Naan. Garlic Pesto Naan $3.99: I don't know if this is new or I just never noticed it before. I normally just get the Garlic Naan $2.99. After trying this, I'll revert to just garlic next time, as I didn't the pesto added much improvement. Mango Lassi $3.99: This was pre-made so he just took it out of the fridge when I ordered. Still pretty good. Papri Chaat $5.49: I guess because this is street food I don't see it on many sit down Indian restaurant menus. I love that you get a crunch from the chips, coolness from the yogurt, and you can't go wrong with tamarind! Speaking of tamarind, you can also ask for tamarind and/or mint chutney to go. I wish the little sauce cups were bigger, but that may be a me problem as I have quite the addiction to sauces. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. This is our go to Indian place! I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed it until now. They are consistent, fast and delicious every time! Our favorites are Butter Chicken ala cart with Garlic Naan, Tandoori chicken with Chloe Bhatura!! (Puffy naan)and Samosas. With larger groups the family dinner is our choice. My notice is that there are always tables needing to be cleaned so it makes seating limited at times. Also I'd like to suggest better napkins for orders eaten at the restaurant. I had to go to the restaurant which defeats the purpose of DoorDash. The gentleman at the register says they don't include sauces with that type of order. Only when ordering samosas. Well, I know this to be untrue because I have been ordering from here for years. Not only did I have to go back but the man helping me was rude and definitely lacks customer service skills. He was willing to let me get 2 tiny cups of the chutney for free. I opted to just buy bigger sizes. I will never come back here again. Consistently delicious Punjabi food. I've ordered delivery from this place multiple times and it has always been delicious. Chicken Tikka and Saag Paneer are my usually litmus tests and they are very flavorful here--more so than at other Indian restaurants. The naan and samosas are also lovely. Really bad service. They mess up the order and complain that it's the customers fault. And instead of chaat they gave some gooey mess - maybe it's called chaat in the part of India they came from. Went there for lunch today and ordered my favorite item (a Spicy Seekh Kabob Wrap). The cashier mistakenly entered a Desi Wrap (one of my least favorite items that I NEVER order). Friend of mine invited me to lunch. Indian sounded good and he recognized the name of this place from a location in SF. I do not know if it's related --didn't ask. But I did take his lead on lunch. Eschewing the $6.95 lunch wrap or roll special --think chicken vindaloo, tikka, etc.--we went for the dinner. That was considerably more expensive, however, but wow what a platter of food. Wonderfull, pillowy soft naan, chaat, lentils, and the velvety chicken tikka masala that was deep and rich in flavor, with plenty of chicken chunks to definitely fill you up. My friend had a fresh "sweet" lassi, prepared to order, but he said he didn't care for it -the yogurt was too tangy, he said. Purchased the lamb biryani on day 1 and it was awesome. The next time (a couple days later) I doubled down and ordered both the chicken and lamb biryani. Very disappointing, the chicken biryani was mostly curry and tasted off, and the lamb biryani was oily and had nary a piece of meat (by my count, only one decent piece). As someone that has been going to the Chaat cafe for years for their sandwiches, I said let me give them a chance to correct the issue. I ordered again, this time 2x lamb biryanis, since I was assured by the owner quality and quantity would be guaranteed. It wasn't great, at all, and if I wasn't hungry I probably wouldn't have eaten it. Way too many onions, not spicy at all, felt like the sauce was not uniformly distributed - total disappointment. It just felt like a waste, after laboring to make sure it was good, it was not :( So I would probably stick to the sandwiches in the future, or hope the chef is in a good mood. read more
