The food is below average. Started with dahi vada - it was missing the garnish completely. The vada was also kinda tasteless. The Samosas same with channa as an accompaniment. Thanks for that, but again here you could have made a lot of things better. The samosa seemed taken right out of the freezer to my wife and the channa was over cooked. Definitely the worst channa masala I have tasted in my life. Finally the gulab jamuns. I think this was the savior of the order. The jamuns were really soft and well cooked. I only wished the cook stayed patient and boiled the sugar syrup a little longer. It was really watery and brought down the value of the jamuns completely. Would I come here again? Oh. I've died and gone to heaven..in India. I used to crave Indian food, I wanted it every week. But because I ate it so much I got sick of it and therefore stopped. Its been quite awhile since I've been back but I for one have missed it. The garlic naan is freaking amazing. Oh my god yummy. Its crispy but soft, garlicky goodness and delicious with the tamarind sauce. The chicken tikka masala..yum-o! The sauce with the fresh basmati rice. Love the sides too- the cauliflower curry and the cucumber salad. Not to mention the lentil soup when I absolutely HATE lentils. I like how everythings self service so I can get my own take out countainer, water, and utensils without waiting forever for it to be brought to me. The waitstaff is super nice and friendly. A++ for cleanliness and it not being smelly. But please please put papadum back on your menu! read more

Hands down one of my favorite Indian fast food places, the mango lassi is delish and my favorite is the lamb Sikh kabob it's super spicy and wrapped in naan bread. The samosas here are also killer! read more

This is my go to for Indian food. Service is super fast and accurate! I use to call to order first but if you don't it's literally 10 minutes max for anything you order. All hot a fresh. They know me when I come in now too. I'm the "veggie biryani with extra nuts." Their food is not greasy, good portion sizes always enough extra for left overs. read more

This place has the BEST salmon wraps. Comes with cucumber or potato salad. Salmon is most and succulent, perfectly delicately seasoned, wrapped in soft bread it is a wonderful treat. Service is fine; nothing to write home about. Decor is uninspired. Music: terrible Indian style rock complete with frantic wailing and tabla drumming. But the food here is outstanding. read more

Recently tried the food here. The rice is amazing. Everything tasted fresh and favorable. But like others have posted, the chicken tikka masala sauce is missing something. Great location near Oakridge Mall. Restaurant is clean. Staffs are friendly. The only dish I always come to is the butter chicken curry with garlic naan. I dont usually eat Indian food but this is the spot to go to. It would be nice if they have crushed pepper or something more spicy to sprinkle into my curry. read more

Customer service was good. Ordered and got our food pretty fast. However, the food was not very tasty at all. I got the paneer tikka dinner. Paneer had few pieces and kind of runny consistency (I've seen thicker and tasted way better than this) . We also ordered naan and it was not fully cooked. My husband is Indian and agreed with me it did not taste authentic which was weird because all the cooks looked Indian. The chole bhature was not spicy or even tasty at all. Food is not good We ordered Papdi Chaat and Chola Bhatura. The service was super fast. Got the food in 2 minutes after placing there order. But the food was just not good. Papdi Chaat was just too much curd and you couldn't taste any other flavor. Usually Chola Bhatura is my go to item because it's difficult to screw up. Bhature was fine but chole was not good. Even after adding salt and lemon.. it was still lacking the taste. The staff was courteous and the service was super quick. I wish they had better food to go with it. read more

I recently went here because there was a coupon in one of those ValuPac mailers. I sampled some of the wraps and the butter chicken. My favorite for flavor and price was the tikka masala wrap. If I could give a half star, this place would inch toward 1.5. Supposedly this is a great, cheap, quick indian place. But the night I went, it was anything but. Service was slow, food was uneventful, the atmosphere was mcdonald's like, and we paid over $50 for four people. When I'm thinking a cafe, i'm not thinking $13 per person on four mediocre dishes. and I guess if you feel like dealing with screaming kids whose parents think it is acceptable to run around a restaurant is a good thing, this may be the place for you. In fact, stay away from the nicer indian restaurants and take your brats here, please. based on these reviews, i'd consider going back, but.... probably not, cos there are far too many other indian gems in the south bay to try out. read more

The folks who run this place don't understand customers nor customer service. I visited them recently and the dishes I ordered were terrible, to say the least. So, while I was at the counter to settle my bill, I asked to speak with the chef/manager. Well, the lady at the counter refused. Then, without any choice, i told her that the food was really bad and I didn't expect that. And the lady, without any hesitation says " People come here all the time and don't complain", She didn't even ask what dish was bad or what was wrong with it. She just brushed me away. What arrogance. I have tasted and enjoyed Indian food in many restaurants and I know what good food tastes like. No doubt the food at this place is/was terrible. I would have given them the benefit of doubt if the service was good and they had truly paid attention to my complaint. I guess they don't really care about customer. The chicken was good, the nan was GREAT, the rice was so-so. The amount of food for the price was good, and overall I'm pretty happy. I went 3-4 times as this is the only Indian restaurant close to me. Each time I think they have disappointed, so thought of posting review as they maintained their consistency ;-) In my opinion, the problem is they have only one way of cooking chicken i.e tandoori. So, all their curries are around that (meaning they use the same chicken for butter chicken, tikka masala, chicken caesar salad etc.,). I found chicken to be hard and not fresh (smell wise too). The only 1 start is for the chats they have are decent. Another thing I dont like is any of the guys at the counter asking(or looking) for tip when you order. Normally, I dont like to pay tip without eating or checking the service since here we need to order first and pay, I end up paying around $5-$10 each time. I feel this is not good for any customer as tip should be paid for the service, and the guys dont do anything as it is self service (you need extra sauce, mint chutney, onion go to counter and get it). My conclusion is its ok for non-indians who does not know the authentic taste, but for Indian people I definitely dont recommend. Drive a bit further and you should find better ones. read more

My go-to for take out food because it is fresh, tasty and consistently good. I always order the chai with my meal. All the sauces are very good, some of my favorites are the Malai Kofta, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. I've also had the fish and it is high quality. A completely different Chaat Cafe then what I am used to in SF. I liked it because it was fast convenient and well let's get to it ... Cheap. Dinner special could fill four people easily. I am a big guy and I was stuffed after only the appetizer round and some entree in. For 25 bucks you get 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and rice. It's kind of spicy which I was glad for. Not amazing quality but not horrible either. Overall I was pleased. Be warned if they say they close at 9:30 that means the doors lock at 9:30. We got the eye of death from the staff as we were talking at our table around 9:20. We walked out and when I checked the time at 9:31 ... and looked back at the place it was closed, locked and dark inside. Not kidding. read more

Had lunch catered by Chaat Cafe to my office in Mountain View. They brought a salad with greens, onioins, peppers and cucumbers, a spicy/hot potato salad, samosas, and chicken, beef, lamb, fish, and vegetarian wraps. For my company's meager lunch budget, this stuff was tasty. Very flavorful! The potoato salad had some heat to it, as did the veggie wraps. The fish wraps were fine, but not as packed with mouth punching flava as the veggie wrap, samosas, and potato salad. This is one of my favorite caterers. Being an Indian by birth, I know a thing or 2 about our cuisine. With that in mind, I have to admit, when I'm looking for a quick bite, Chaat Cafe is a great solution. The food is decent in taste, and service is quick. Chaat food, is Indian snack food. Everything from Bhel to Pani Puri, and Paneer Wraps to Mango Lassis, I would definitely go back. When Indians are eating here that's a good sign. I love this place for a quick Indian fix! We generally get the family dinner bc it's a good amount of food for 4 people. The papri chaat is like a yogurt nacho and pretty good. The lamb curry is awesome and I love their saag paneer. Garlic naan is $1.00 per order with the family dinner. I think it's worth it tho. Check your takeout items before you leave bc they messed up on our order and we were already home when we found out. I've never had to wait too long for my order when eating in or takeout. read more

This was my cousin's and I first time here, we ordered: - Cholay Bhature; which were tasty, yet spicy. - Fried Bhature's; very good. - Butter chicken; curry tasted very much like tomato and had very little spice. The chicken was dry as well. Chi tea; needed all the fixings. Mango Lassi; refreshing yet, could have been sweeter. Plain naan; tasted like a puffy cracker, no butter very plain. The sauces/curries for chickpeas and butter chicken were watery. And there was too much bread. (2 naan and 2 bhature) alongside a small serving of cholay and butter chicken. We didn't receive rice as ordered and indicated on menu. A well lit and busy cafe with an atmosphere that was was clean and comfortable. I will only return to have the fried bhature's and mango lassi, otherwise I'd rather enjoy food elsewhere. read more
