I had a great experience with their special New Year's thali. All the dishes in the thali had such great flavors and had just the right amount of salt, oil and spices to remind me of home cooked Bengali food. Standout dishes were the mustard (shorshe) Ilish and the jackfruit with shrimp. I also liked the shukto and aam chutney. Luchi and aloo sabji (not part of the thali) was also flavorful and light. I also tasted some of their veg chowmein and loved the smoky wok he taste. Service was attentive and my glass of water was kept filled at all times Ambiance was calming with the silent television and instrumental music with lovely bits of decorations such as the Bankura style terracota horses near the entrance. Parking was easy and cheap if you park in San Pedro square parking lot. I will certainly be back to try more items off their regular menu. read more

Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience. Imagine driving around downtown San Jose just to secure parking in the evening. Finally able to get to the restaurant the ambience was welcoming, but not the service. Literally walked in the restaurant and nobody even cared to greet you. I went up to the register to ask about how the order process works because it looks a bit confusing because it seemed like it is one of those restaurants where you come up in order at the register and have a seat while also has this ambience where you get seated and someone takes your order. I took a seat and someone gave me the menu. The person never came back didn't even provide me water so I figured to get up and just place the order at the register and I sat down. Long story short, 30 minutes later the food was nowhere to be found. Guess what I ordered? A simple tikka masala with garlic naan usually tikka masala are premade, and you just have to make the garlic naan. I went up to the register and talked to someone and asked them how long the food was going to take. At the same time, I also noticed some people canceling their orders by going to the register. I mentioned that if it was gonna take any longer, I would just get a refund and miraculously a few minutes later, my food finally arrived. The food was pretty good. I was surprised though that the tikka masala had some green peppers and onions on there, but I figured that might be a different style because I think this is a Bengal type of food. I asked the person that brought the food and she literally told me she does not know. Overall, the place look like it has good intentions, but the execution is not it. No customer service lack of knowledge about what they serve and just seem very disorganized. It also seemed like they prioritize the to go orders from the apps more than the people inside. The restaurant was half empty and it looks like they were struggling to even keep up with any of the orders so I will not go out of my way to come back to this restaurant, but if it was nearby and I was craving the food, I might give it another shot read more

We visited Eden Gardens for a weekend dinner with high hopes. My husband is from Kolkata, and we're always on the lookout for authentic Bengali food in the Bay Area. After reading several positive reviews and learning that they serve Kolkata-style cuisine, we were genuinely excited to give it a try. When we arrived, the restaurant was almost full. The host greeted us warmly and asked us to wait while they cleaned a table. Within about five minutes, we were seated, which was a great start. To begin, we ordered jaljeera, fish fry, and chicken chop (cutlet). Unfortunately, the jaljeera was disappointing. It tasted like water with a little chaat masala mixed in--the bold, tangy, refreshing flavors that make a good jaljeera were completely missing. The fish fry and chicken chop, however, were excellent and easily the highlights of the meal. Both were perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful on the inside, and tasted fresh. We also ordered a double egg chicken roll. As someone who absolutely loves Kolkata-style Frankies and rolls, I was probably most excited to try this dish. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the evening. It lacked the authentic flavor we were expecting, and we honestly couldn't finish it. We ended up leaving most of it on the plate, which is something we rarely do. For our main course, we ordered mutton kosha with luchi. The gravy was flavorful, but the mutton pieces were overcooked and quite chewy, which took away from the dish. Service was another disappointment. Throughout the meal, it was difficult to get our server's attention. We had to get up from our table multiple times just to ask for assistance, which made the dining experience frustrating. Overall, I really wanted to love this place because authentic Kolkata-style food is so hard to find. While the fish fry and chicken chop were genuinely excellent, the rest of the meal and the service didn't live up to our expectations. We met friends here for lunch on a Sunday. A nice open space with the TV playing in silence. I had seen mention of the goat thali in another review so I ordered that while my wife ordered the vegetarian thali. As it turned out, our friends also ordered the goat thali. The thali does not come with bread, so my wife ordered roti, and my friends ordered garlic naan. Since the thali comes with plain rice, I stuck with that. My thali came with goat, curry, yogurt, tomato, chutney, potato, crisps, yellow dal, salad, shukto and white rice (not basmati but ok). I liked the flavor of the goat curry and the meat was tender, and had absorb the flavor and happily there were only a few small bones in my serving. I had a masala chai as it was cool outside, and that came to the table, piping, hot, unsweetened, and to my taste, which is to appreciate it being a little bitter, but not too bitter They have QR codes to order off the menu at the table, so I think the server was expecting us to do that at first but eventually they came to the table and we placed our order. I held my husband's 45th birthday dinner here with a small group of about 15 of his friends. From the moment we walked in, the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The greeted us and made sure we were all comfortable and never rushed us in terms of ordering or needing us to leave. In fact, the staff allowed us to stay until they closed so we could relax and enjoy the company of our friends who we don't get to see often. Arch, the main server was the one who took care of us that evening. He made sure all orders were taken correctly, food was brought out timely, and we had everything we needed. We have some friends who can't handle spicy food or who are not accustomed to India food. Arch made sure their accommodations were met as well as making sure they understood the types of food they were ordering. Some of our friends are not crazy about Indian food but said they really liked this place and would come back again on their own. My husband being Bengali, the food brings back nostalgia of home. Appetizers, main courses, and various drinks were ordered. All we delicious and well prepared. After dinner, the staff played birthday music and brought out a surprise dessert for my husband which was a nice surprise! Saw this in my recommendations and the menu looked very interesting. So had to try. 1. Double Egg Chicken Kathi Roll: The chicken was juicy and very flavorful. 2. Peas Kochuri and Aloo Sabji This is the first time I had peas kochuri and frankly, I could eat it even without the sabji However, the sabji definitely complemented it really well. It was probably the best aloo sabji I have had in the bay so far. 3. Masala Fries These were nice and crunchy and also spicy. 4. Chicken Chowmein Since Kolkata is the birthplace of indo-chinese, I had high expectations, and the noodles didnt disappoint. Taste is all great but if we take an "authentic bengali" judgment hat, Mishti pulao should be of "Gobindobhog" rice and the Ghugni should have goat keema. I cannot rate the atmosphere since we got the food 'to go' but before it changed owners they did not allow inside dining so now that it does I'll keep the star review consistent. We ordered food for lunch and it was super easy to order online through their website, it was ready in a short window of time, and the food was delicious. I'm sure the gobi Manchurian would be even better at the restaurant but it had great flavor and the sauce was nice and spicy. The rice was plain but fresh. The spicy chili/sesame naan was soooo good! It says it's spicy on the menu but I think it's difficult to control the spice level of the fresh peppers. It wasn't a spicy as the gobi but the flavor was smokey and nothing like I've ever had on naan. The garlic naan was also fabulous! I intentionally stayed away from the usual chicken tikka masala fare (which is nothing but sub standard tomato and cream gravy in almost all US based Indian restaurants). Ordered the pea Kachori and mustard fish. Liked both. I would recommend this to restaurant to others. What I didn't like was the cleanliness. If you want to explore different type of Indian food this is your place to try. There are very few East of India cuisine places in the Bay Area (3 in total). They also have regular Indian fare. We got Luchi (fried bread), Goat kasha, Sorshe Rui (fish cooked in mustard gravy), Rice and chai, lime soda. Drinks were really good. Strong hot tea. Lime soda was perfect. Luchi was soft, crispy on the outside, hot. A must try. Mangsho kasha- It was good goat curry but definitely not kasha! Kasha mangsho has deep brown onion gravy.. So even though it wasn't kasha the goat was soft, tasty. Sorshe Rui- good quality and quantity of fish. Perfectly done (paatla jhol) thin gravy with green chillies on top. Service was good. So here are my recommendations if you want to diversify your Indian food exploration. You won't find these in most other places (total of 3 exist in the Bay Area with one being more bangladeshi food). Lots of following dishes are vegetarian/vegan (v) friendly- Appetizers- veg chop(v), enchor-er-chop (v), fish chop, chicken chop jhal muri (v). All rolls- egg, double egg, egg chicken. Phool makhana sabji, begun basanti, shukto, aloo potol, ghughni, aloo posto all of these are vegetarian friendly. Rohu kalia, sorse rui, shrimp malai curry. Accompaniments -Misti pulao, luchi, peas kochuri. All desserts. You will thank me later. Will be back to try all these dishes one by one. read more

I have to update my review. Their food quality and quantity has improved a lot in the last few months. All the dishes are very tasty . I mostly order via Uber Eats because the store is far away from where I live. But all the food I have ordered so far has been really good. A minor problem I see from time to time is still with quantity. Sometimes containers are half full. If I order two units of the same dish one container will be fine the other one will have half. I avoid the fish dishes because they are overpriced for the quantity. But overall from a taste perspective they are a good place. read more

This has become my goto Bong food takeout joint and I would have given it 5 stars, based on the taste of food alone. However, they need to address couple of issues soon enough, especially the second one, otherwise they may fall into the same pattern of failed Bengali cuisine experiments across the area: 1. Price is really steep. When I say steep, I really mean it because we fall under the category of "almost daily " DoorDash / take out folks. So I have a pretty good idea of what we usually pay for Indian food. 2. For the steep price that you charge, you need to ensure that you at least provide the quality and quantity customers are paying for. For example, when I opened the box of "fish curry (rohu)", I got two small pieces of rohu pieces staring at me for ~$18. Now I'm thinking, it's time to take a break from this take out joint because they might have felt I've gotten used to ordering from here too often and I'll continue to order regardless of their serving size. Authentic Bengali Bliss in the Heart of San Jose! Came here with a party of 6 all Bengali friends so we came with high expectations and sharper-than-average taste buds for authenticity. Eden Gardens did not disappoint. Appetizers & Snacks: We kicked off with VegetableChop(a crunchy start), followed by Puchka and wow, it was a trip back to Kolkata street corners. The tamarind water was punchy, spicy, and perfect. The Fish Fry was spot on: flaky, crispy, and paired with kasundi that actually tasted like home. Main Course Magic: The highlight had to be the Peas Kachori with Aloo Sabzi fluffy, golden kachoris with a soulful, lightly spiced aloo curry. Pure comfort food. Aloo Posto with Rice was another standout. Simple dish, but they nailed the mustard kick and texture. Then came the royal dish: Chicken Kolkata Biryani. Fragrant rice, tender chicken, and yes--the elusive dim (egg!) and aloo. They got the subtle spicing and ghee richness just right. Drinks & Dessert: We washed it down with refreshing Aam Panna, a welcome palate cleanser after the rich biryani. Ended on a sweet note with Sandesh, and it had that melt-in-the-mouth texture that's hard to get right outside Bengal. Service & Atmosphere: Warm, welcoming staff and a no-frills ambiance that lets the food take center stage. Portions were generous, prices fair, and everything felt homemade in the best way. Adventuresome menu selections this visit included a bitter melon gourd mixed with something herbish which I don't know what it was, but tasted somewhat like burdock. They also still had their mustard fish, and I think lotus. Last Friday night there was so much cooking going on that there was steam coming out of the kitchen area and the windows were fogging up. South Indian has also becoming more common these days (stuff like Dosa) .. but Bengali food is sadly rare. Bengali food tries out a lot of really interesting flavor combinations and ingredients that you don't see anywhere else.
