Food was good. The staff was rude. They told you to sit wherever then made everyone move. A couple came in and was asked to move. They asked why. The guy said because just in case. The couple left. We then got to her the male employee rant and curse about them. Not what I wanted to hear while eating. Being in Vale, there are a handful of places to eat in town, and this time, while serving jury duty, I decided to try Chabelitas because who doesn't like Mexican food? It looked like a fast-casual place from the outside, but they offered both order-at-the-counter and table service. The service is warm and welcoming, as you would expect in a small-town establishment. The food itself is good. I'm a fan of the Chorizo and eggs; usually, when I order it at other places, I'm disappointed. Either it's a greasy mess, or they chop up a pre-cooked sausage-style chorizo, making it chunky. Chabelitas version was perfectly in between. Like most fast-casual places, their self-serve salsa bar is a great touch; definitely heed the "hot" warnings! Beyond good, reasonably priced food, the inviting and attentive service, especially when having a sit-down meal, was very nice, making it a place I'll happily return to again. Chabelitas seems to be the place to go for dinner in Vale. Every time I drop in for a bite, they're doing solid business. I'm a fan of burritos, so that's generally what I get... and these do not disappoint! All of the burritos are a full meal. My dining amigos often take some of theirs home. Service was okay. Server checked in on us. Server was kind of rude asking my in laws if they can afford extra charges they asked for. I asked what flavors the margaritas come in and she immediately asked for an ID which is okay but all I asked for is the flavors. 2nd the margaritas doesn't come with sugar on the rim just salt and I ordered a huckleberry margarita and had to use salt instead of sugar. 3rd I ordered a combo meal fish taco combo and it says it comes with rice and beans. When I ordered it she said it didn't come with rice and beans. But it was on the combo menu so we had to charge extra for rice and beans. The food was okay. This is the time I have passed through Vale and the second time I stopped for their Chile Verde. The meat is so tender and flavorful. This dish is excellent. It reminds me of the Chile Verde I had growing up in California. The service is outstanding. They are so friendly and even though they were very busy they seated me right away. read more

Wow what a treasure. Working in Malheur County Vale area. A couple of us went over here for dinner. Nothing fancy about the place. Comfortable enough, plenty of seating, help yourself to chips and Salsa. Chips were standard but the red salsa was really good. I had steak fajitas. I consider myself a fajita snob. The fajita was outstanding. Plenty of peppers and onions but they didn't scrimp on the steak. Cooked perfectly, homemade flour tortillas. Guacamole, beans, rice typical. I'm really not sure about the amazing reviews of this restaurant! My 12 year old daughter ate here after taking our calves to sale on a Wednesday. My very first thought when we got to door was to just walk away, but we headed in and were greeted by a very sweet waitress and unkept, slightly unclean, and poorly decorated and rundown restaurant! We knuckled down and ordered. I got chicken enchilada and my daughter ordered chicken strips and French fries. The enchilada sauce was just kinda gross. It was sweet and more brown then red...the consistency was good...the rice was fined and the refried beans were runny. I didn't finish it... as for the chicken strips, so I know this was a Mexican restaurant, but they were more like deep fried chicken nuggets, and the fries...just don't do it! Love this place authentic Mexican food we are locals and eat here at least once a week. I hesitated to do a review just because it is a hidden gem but you will love it. Self serve chips and salsa bar and great margaritas. If your there early the chorizo and eggs burrito is amazing Edgar make his own chorizo. Fish tacos and shrimp fajita quesadilla, forget about it. These are amazing and you won't be disappointed. It is a family owned restaurant and the service is excellent. The restaurant is family style, kids can run around, stand on the chairs, nobody cares. It is decently clean but more rustic than elegant. The chip and salsa station is decent. I tried the big burrito and it was ok, I would not order it again. It is HUGE. I would normally give this restaurant a 4 star but the two items above are very very good so 5 is what they get from me. I really like the food from this restaurant. We are staying at a local RV park, (not so great) and we wanted something new. Chavelitas did not disappoint! I've had the stuffed chili Rellenos and the shrimp tacos, and wow, they were fantastic. The waitress is always sweet, and fast, and she doesn't forget about you. We close on our house soon, and when we do, I hope to make the 25-mile trek back to Vale to eat here again. read more

What a fantastic find! Authentic Mexican at its best! I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area - worth the drive from Ontario or other surrounding communities. Everything was made fresh and contained wonderful flavors. The outside may scare some away (a little dated), the inside is clean and the staff is friendly and eager to please. OK, I don't write a lot of reviews, but Chabelitas was so good I had to spread the word. We stopped here in our motorhome for a one night stop on our way to Bend. Our RV park hosts recommended this restaurant. Edgar, the owner, was a marvelous host. The margaritas were outstanding. My wife loved the fish tacos. I had a chichen enchilada ranchera and a chile rellemo. Both were as good as it gets. Look forward to stopping here next year. read more

Pretty darn good Mexican food considering where it's located! And definitely the best Mexican I've had since moving to the Treasure Valley area! They have an incredible salsa bar and their tacos and chile relleno quesadilla are amazing!
