Well... Amy and I decided to stop by Chada on a Friday night after leaving Pal's. We intentionally waited a few weeks for the "I'm the new restaurant in town" lines to calm down. We still had about a 15-minute wait, so we grabbed seats at the bar. No complaints there. It didn't take long before we started seeing familiar faces from our beloved Banana Blossom, which immediately made us smile. Walking in, I was impressed. The space is gorgeous. Spotless. Elevated without feeling pretentious. The lighting had that perfect warm, 2700 Kelvin glow. I don't usually comment on restaurant bathrooms, but...they were really nice. The cocktails are thoughtful, beautiful, and clearly crafted by a bartender that takes pride in taste and presentation. We started with the dumplings, and they were delicate, beautiful, and packed with flavor. Then came the tuna larb. Y'all...I wanted to slap myself it was sooooo good. Bright, fresh, vibrant, and absolutely perfect for a hot, humid New Orleans summer night. For our entrées, we ordered the green curry with scallops and the beef rib. The scallops were cooked absolutely perfectly. Not one second over. The green curry hit every note I wanted, rich, aromatic, a little sweet, a little heat, and beautifully balanced. The beef rib was fall-apart tender with just the right amount of fat. Every bite reminded me that some calories are worth it. By the end of dinner, I realized Chada isn't trying to replace Banana Blossom. It's doing its own thing, and it's doing it exceptionally well and in our neighborhood. We walked home happy, full, and already planning what we're ordering on our next visit. That's about as good a recommendation as I know how to give. read more

We eat Thai food plenty and this Thai place was a bit peculiar. The Cho muang (flower dumplings) was very sweet with reminiscent of Vietnamese xoi. It was a sweet way to start lunch though I would have gotten this for dessert. The drunken noodles were flavorless and the noodles were cut for a child. The saving grace was the kao noodles. The broth was flavorful, but the shrimp was bland. Overall, we wouldn't come back unfortunately. read more

Chada never disappoints. The best Thai food we've had in the city. I'm addicted to the spicy noodles, and my wife loves the pad kra pao. The depth of flavors - even in the vegetarian dishes - is amazing. An added bonus is that Chada has such a beautiful space. It's great for a casual lunch or a nice dinner. And you can get a great cocktail, too, so it's truly a complete experience. On a personal note: We've been blown away by the friendly and gracious staff. They make you feel welcome -- and eager to come back. It's quickly become one of our favorite places in New Orleans. read more

Tyler, our server was lovely. The place was packed and they still managed to find some seats for two of us. The hostesses were very nice. The place is beautiful and the bathroom and tables are clean. The porch has a limited seating area for waiting and is so pretty! The food was pretty bland though. They did have some creative items on the menu which were unique and tasty such as the vermicelli-wrapped shrimp appetizer. However the main dishes we had were quite mild and not the 3 star heat we thought we would get. Before I forget, the cocktails were impressive and quite beautiful. I really enjoyed all of the food that we had here and the service was excellent. Very attentive and had great suggestions as well. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and cozy all at the same time. When you walk in you see a beautiful bar, sitting in front of you and tables around it and there is a back dining area as well and there's even some outdoor seating in the back. The curry short ribs were magnificent and so was the Thai iced tea tiramisu although it was much smaller than I thought it would be based on the pictures I saw online. From the cocktails that we tried the obey piña colada was the favorite. The mango sticky rice cocktail was good, but I was expecting it to be sweeter, maybe they would swap the tequila for rum or some other spirit that would make it a little sweeter and more like I was expecting. read more

The first thing I noticed when I was in was how beautiful the interior is. I couldn't stop looking at all the beautiful details in the decor and design. Our server was friendly and the food was amazing. I had the stuffed chicken wings. I remember having stuffed wings similar to this about 10 years ago at a festival. I don't remember the name of the booth but I've been searching for wings that food ever since. I finally scratched that itch with Chada's wings. They were delicious! I also had the khao soi and a Thai tea. Both were really good. My dining partner was in love with their cocktail. Wow! I was blown away at this place. The ambience, the service, the food. The staff are so incredibly nice. I literally felt like I was on a resort in Thailand. Everything was so calm and zen. It's been a while since I went to a restaurant that really welcomed us with open arms. The food is amazing. We definitely got the simple stuff, but will be back for their special items!! I love a good Thai restaurant and Chada is now officially at the top of my list. We arrived as soon as they opened, and there were a few parties waiting for the doors to open. It's a super cute space for any occassion: from date nights to hanging with friends. We were greeted warmly; and, our waitress was super sweet and enthusiastic about the menu. I decided to try the Khao Soi with shrimp as I love a yellow curry. I did ask to remove the pickled mustard (as it can sometimes take over the flavor). The Khao Soi was soothing and flavorful; and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. I'll definitely return to try more items. read more

I visited here for the first time yesterday, Friday, evening. I had to drive around a bit to find street parking. I eventually managed to squeeze into a spot across the street from the restaurant. It was packed when I arrived. Fortunately, I was able to sit at the bar. They said they don't take reservations on the weekend and reservations during the week are only for larger parties. The staff were all pleasant. Because I sat at the bar and the bartender was super busy, service was a bit slower but I was ok with that. I was just happy to get a seat. I liked the decor and overall atmosphere. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc which I enjoyed. For my appetizer, I ordered the Thai flower dumplings and I enjoyed them. For me the texture and flavor worked well. If you are a texture person and you don't enjoy foods made from rice flour then you might not enjoy these. For my main dish, I ordered the green curry with shrimp without the eggplant. The dish was tasty. I requested only medium spice. The green curry sauce was very flavorful and delicious. I had hoped to try their mango and sticky rice for dessert but it sold out just before I requested it. If you visit here later in the day and you want to try that dessert then I'd suggest ordering it up front with your meal and just having it brought out later. read more

Had a friend pass a word-of-mouth recommendation and tried it one Sunday lunch. Gotta say, we'll be back! First, the interior design is upscale. We were so in awe and had to know more of -- Sara and Chef Tom were open to sharing their stories. THANK YOU After ordering a bunch of appetizers: the shumai, purple flower dumplings, thai sausages, tom yum soup, we perused through Yelp pictures for entree options and saw a steamed red snapper. We asked if it was available and sure enough, it was delicious! It was the highlight of the meal. We hadn't had a GOOD steamed fish in about 2 years! We settled with a few entrees that we always enjoy when eating Thai food: khao soi yellow curry with egg noodles, pad see ew, spicy drunken noodles. Yum to all Really starting to fall in love with this place. We asked if there was anything we were missing out on from the menu. Server told us 2 other options: the short rib and the lamb. We decided we will definitely be back for those and for their thai tea tiramisu, which was sold out at the time. Our family really loves dessert. I really love a place who is honest about their food. They were upfront about their mango sticky rice and how they couldn't source their usual mangos, thus resulting in a less sweet dessert. I understand it's hard to source the perfect mangos all the time; the honesty went a long way. Made me enjoy the mango sticky rice even more, and it was still sweet! The service and atmosphere were great! The bar was gorgeous and ornate, and the entire place had a cozy feel. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I loved the cocktail selection, and I went out of my comfort zone with the mango sticky rice cocktail. It wasn't too sweet, and I would certainly order it again. Phenomenal. Phenomenal. Phenomenal. No better word to describe Chada. Went for a celebratory lunch and was impressed by the serenity once entering this quaint establishment. Service was quick and very helpful; we were even offered a second table to accommodate all the dishes we wanted to try! As for the food--AMAZING. Fresh ingredients and so much depth. I've never had a Pad See Ew with this amount of sauce, which was packed with flavor. The stars of my show were the short rib curry and garlic fried rice. Both were delicious and I recommend eating the rice with the curry. For dessert, I am a cheesecake enthusiast and absolutely loved the basque cheesecake that was offered. All dishes served were very good and I am super excited to return to try more (we eyed the fried red fish that was delivered next to us--we will be back to order!) Cannot recommend this place enough. Visited Chada on a quiet, cold early Sunday afternoon. They had only been open for about 30 min and I was the only customer apart from a takeout order. The space is absolutely beautiful and ornate. I enjoyed the enthusiastic and attentive service. I ordered the fried veggie egg rolls, papaya salad and Khao Soi with scallops. Each dish was brought out one after the other. The egg rolls were cute, crunchy and tasty. The papaya salad was so incredibly fresh and very flavorful. The Khao Soi was like a warm hug and the scallops were tender, not overcooked. I do wish there were more of the pickled greens and maybe some fish sauce in the curry but overall it was still delicious. Such a cute and quant little Thai restaurant. As soon you walk through the door you are in the restaurant, you see all the patrons packed tightly together, enjoying some great Thai food. The focal point of the restaurant would have to be the beautiful bar that you also see when you walk in. I enjoyed the drunken noodles, one of my favorite Thai dishes, and the spring rolls were delicious, but unsure if they were homemade. Our waiter didn't greet us when he approached the table, but was very nice and took good care of us. I met my friend here for her birthday lunch. Although the tables were very close, I mean close, close, we still were able to enjoy our conversation and catch up without feeling like we were competing with the tables on both sides of us. Of course being that close together, the patrons at the other tables may want to strike up a conversation, so if you are not a people person, or like close quarters, this may not be the place for you! read more

The best start to a wonderful Mother's Day. I was overly impressed from the moment we walked in the door. The decor was breath taking: the chandeliers, bar and tables were gorgeous. Anyways, I finally made my way and it was delicious! The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how slow the service is. Everything was soooo good but the drinks were taking at minimum 20 minutes to arrive. They were out of the striploin rice when we ordered which was a bummer turned blessing because we ended up trying to it with duck and the duck was perfection! A new Thai restaurant in an old house in Mid-City is a big surprise. Beautifully decorated, very warm and cozy yet lots of tables, low lighting, friendly staff. There are two big rooms and a patio which was not in use because it was freezing. Menu has lots of choices. Prices reasonable. Food very fresh and lovely spices and herbs. Many vegetarian options. Full bar with exotic drinks. The tableware is very pretty. They don't take reservations for fewer than 5 guests but said the busiest time is 6:30-7:30. We went at 6:00 and got in on a Saturday night. Chada has such a dark, intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a girls' night out or a dinner date tucked into the glow of Mid-City. We arrived around 8 PM, about an hour before closing, and there was about a 30 minute wait, but honestly it moved pretty quickly. The restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious, and the location is great since you can easily walk to nearby spots for drinks after dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the tuna larb and were surprised by how generous the portion was. Definitely enough for 3 topeople to share comfortably. The pineapple fried rice was super flavorful. The sweetness from the pineapple balanced really well with the savory stir-fried rice. We chose steak as the protein, but next time I'd probably go with chicken or even veggie since the flavor of the dish already stands strong on its own. The drunken noodles with shrimp were another favorite. The shrimp were large, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The standout dish for us was the short rib curry. The meat was incredibly tender and practically fell off the bone. The curry was rich, flavorful, and packed with vegetables that soaked up all the sauce beautifully. So excited to have a great Thai restaurant in the neighborhood! We went for dinner a few nights ago with a friend who used to live here, and we were reminiscing about how back then Budsis was still a pop-up at Pals, and otherwise it was driving to Secret Thai in Chalmette, or crossing the river to go to Banana Blossom for good Thai food. I will get to the food, but I have to start with the space (didn't get any photos, you'll have to go see for yourself). I couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful it was from before we walked in. It's cozy, warm, and full of little details that are just beautiful. At the end of our meal Glen, one of the owners, came by to thank us for coming in and gave us a tour, telling us that they had actually gone to Thailand to get a lot of the decor and worked with artists there to make many of the light fixtures. You should make a point to visit the bathroom, the sinks are these ornate bowls that Glen and his partner got from Thailand like 5 years ago, with nowhere to put them, and just saved them until now. Okay, the food...prefacing that I had a bit of a cold and my congestion probably dampened my palate a bit. That being said, it was very tasty, largely staples of most Thai menus, but the flavors were a little more thoughtful and complex than your basic drunken noodles and pad thai. There was a fun cocktail menu, and in addition to wine they had lychee sake, which I'd never tried before but found sweet but pleasant. The spice is not overwhelming, my 3 rated drunken noodles were less spicy than I was anticipating. When I return I feel confident I can handle the 5 whole fish. Our server was lovely, the entire experience was very comfortable, and the owners Glen and Tom were so sweet. Definitely check this place out, I will be back soon! read more

One of the best Thai places I've tried in NOLA so far!The ambiance was so aesthetically pleasing. It was a bit noisy inside, but only because there were a lot of diners which is a sign the place is really good. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful when we had any questions about the menu. For drinks, we got their Lychee Mojito ($16.00). So delicious! The blend of lychee and mint flavors really balance off well with each other. For our food, we got their Khao Soi ($18.00) with added soft shell crab ($8.00) & their Stuffed Chicken Wings ($16.00). Everything was so flavorful! The dishes blended well with each other. There is only street parking, but I'm not really surprised as it it located in the Mid City area so. Overall, I'd come back to Chad's if I happen to be in the area. read more

New Thai restaurant less than 10 minutes from my job what's more perfect than that?!? I went there straight from work and sat at the bar and was lucky to catch the happy hour, $10 cocktails. I really enjoyed the hibiscus daiquiri. I started with the tuna larb and it was great. It was tangy and spicy and over all party in my mouth. I then got the crab fried rice and that's where my disappointment set in. As a lover of crab and especially crab fried rice I was excited to try this dish. Typically I get it with another dish but as I was eating alone I didn't want to order too much food. That was a mistake because this rice on its own lacked any flavor or depth which is atypical for Thai cuisine. It had lots of lump crabmeat which was appreciated but I feel they thought the crab alone would save this dish and it just didn't hit like crab fried rice normally does. Honestly the rice was like a 2.5 but the service, the ambiance, my cocktail and the larb were a strong 5 so I'll definitely be back. read more

Donning mock turtleneck short sleeve sweaters, a friend and I went to check out the new Midcity Thai spot-Chada. Nestled in a former double shotgun right across from Lindy Boggs, this new spot open only a week was jumpin! Seating in two dining rooms and additional spots on a back deck I was blown away by the tasteful decor and ambience. (No pics of the bathrooms but they were just as beautiful. Teal toilets! TEAL!) We shared the flower dumplings which were made by hand to order as they had already run out of them. Next, two curries-the green and yellow. One with scallops, the other with shrimp. Nice heat, texture and velvety sauce. Service was a bit slow but only because it's week one ON and there are kinks to work out navigating real time guests and issues that arise. Let's start off with the decor. Beautiful and really sets the ambiance. Staff were attentive friendly and the food came out fast. So onto the food. Appetizer: Chor Muang (1/5): it looks amazing and beautiful but flavor wise it is all over the place. Very salty and if I had to compare the taste it would be to a savory salty peanut butter taste except the flavors clashed heavily. Only by wrapping it in the veggies does that mellow out the flavors a little. Drink: Thai Milk Tea (4/5): refreshing and sweet. Borderline overly sweet so if you're not into very sweet drinks avoid it. Entrees: Red Curry (5/5)Spot on flavors. Silky and aromatic how it should be. The real star is the protein. Duck (5/5):crispy skin; flavorful; and still moist. Soft-shell crab (5/5): super crispy panko crumbs.The soft-shell crab was good; not the most flavorful but still solid. If you have to get their curries get either soft-shell crab or the duck. You won't regret it! Drunken Noodle 4/5: It was a solid dish. Savory and spicy with sweetness to it. If they tone down the sweetness a little more then the dish would have been perfectly balanced. Pad Kra Pao Kai 1/5: all the entrees were great which is why this is disappoint. Overly salty which overpowered the aromatics of the dish. I'd avoid this and get one of their curries. Overall 3/5. There were some hit and misses with what we ordered. It's definitely worth an experience; a good place for a date but avoid the two dishes I mentioned. Stick with the curries you can't go wrong especially if you get the duck or soft shell crab. Price vs food quality is a bit on the high side but still worth a try. read more

We had the vermicelli shrimp and flower dumpling appetizers, and for entrees the drunken noodles, basil fried rice, pad thai and khao soi noodles (which comes with an almost entire duck leg quarter if that's your protein). Then came the Chor Muang (Thai Flower Dumplings) tiny, jewel-like parcels of minced chicken perfumed with coriander root, garlic, and pepper. They arrive looking almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. One bite and the spell breaks: OMG, WTH do not miss these. Delicate, savory, deeply aromatic, and executed with a confidence that signals a kitchen operating on another level. The Veggie Fried Spring Rolls followed cabbage, carrots, glass noodles, mushrooms crispy without heaviness, flavorful without fuss. The kind of "simple" dish that quietly proves how good the fundamentals are here. Every crunch felt intentional. And then... the showstopper. The Short Rib Panang Curry. Short ribs nestled among red peppers and Brussels sprouts, swimming in a curry so rich and precise it feels composed rather than cooked, served with jasmine rice that politely steps aside and lets the sauce speak. There is nothing short about this dish not the flavor, not the portion, not the ambition. It is, without exaggeration, one of the best things I've ever eaten. I "kinda" know food, and this is special. Singular. A dish that doesn't chase trends it creates its own gravity. I find myself hoping, almost praying, that the short rib never leaves the menu. Walking into CHADA feels like stepping through a velvet curtain into another world one where design, intention, and hospitality conspire to slow you down and invite wonder. The room is visually arresting without ever trying too hard: elegant lines, thoughtful textures, and a layout that flows with effortless grace. It's the kind of space that quietly tells you you're in good hands. CHADA isn't just a great meal; it's the thrill of discovery the kind that makes you grateful you showed up hungry and curious.
