A historic food hall in New Orleans was founded on May 1, 1875. It has survived fires, hurricanes, and reinventions while remaining the neighborhood's gathering place. Today, an enclosed space houses a number of locally owned, independent vendors that occasionally rotate. I opted for Laksa, hosted by Ms Lin, and ordered her take on "Shumai" which are dumplings folded around a ground mixture of chicken and shrimp. Great place! It went through some teething problems in the first year, but now they've got a great group of vendors, paired with a really pleasant place to eat. I'll start with that, because otherwise this venue would be all about takeout. It's bright, open (30' ceiling!), nicely restored, and WELL KEPT. So often food courts are just a wreck--people's leavings everywhere. At St Roch they keep after that. Not only are there decent tables in many sizes, there's a nice marble bar as well. Now as to the food: we got going there for the $1 oysters from 3-5 at the oyster bar. Nice with a beer, and the char-broiled ones are great too. Then we went for the brisket sandwich special the charcuterie place was having for lunchtime-yuuum, and the owner couldn't be nicer. We've heard good things about the Cuban place too, so that's on the list. There's a fun Burmese place as well, and a poke/sushi place I mean to try. Also Bahamian. The places vary of course in the level of service, but the ones I've described are really nice. All in all it's a great addition to the neighborhood; worth finding out what clicks for you because it becomes a pleasant habit. read more

Cute ambiance and very hip. Don't get confused for an actual market, as this place is more of a food hall. I enjoy places like these because there are options in one place. Unfortunately, when we came, the Cuban booth wasn't open. They have one long bar, thai food, burmese food, panini/salad/cookies, Bahamian food, Mediterranean food, italian, etc. They are open until late too so you can try one for lunch and another for dinner! I enjoyed Junkanoo Cafe's oxtail with rice that came with 2 sides: mac and cheese and plantains. The tossed cobb salad from Olive Cheese & Crackers and their cookies were good! All the food from other vendors looked amazing, though. So I can't wait to come again and try other vendors. I love the that you can scan a QR code on the table and learn about the buildings history. The prices are a bit steeper than usual New Orleans food, but I guess they gotta pay rent. lol They provide service too! They bring the food to you which is nice and unexpected. A a chance to revisit the st roch market after a few years. The ambiance and atmosphere is always welcoming and comfortable. I had a fish plate from Not Ya Mae's Kitchen and it was impeccable. The fish was so crispy and crunchy like I like it and everything on the plate complimented each other very well. The service was great and straight to the point. I love how the cashier was very accommodating. There are other great booths in the market that I can't wait to try. I took no photos this time. Went to meet up with friends. We got there at the tail end of happy hour. ($1 oysters looked real good). Bar area in the back. Plenty of seating. I got catfish with Mac-n-cheese with potato salad (needed carbs). The gentleman dropped a fresh fish for me and brought it outside where my group was sitting. The food was phenomenal and my group was jealous of my catfish. I ate it too fast for pictures. Other options at the table-a Thai noodle dish with a perfectly cooked egg on top. A falafel wrap and a gyro plates. The martini's were crisp and the spicy margarita my friend got was dangerously delicious. It isn't as big as City Market up the street but it is fun. 10/10 recommend checking it out. read more

I had to update because so much has changed at the St. Roch Market and I'm here for it! Let's start with a new owner that passionately seems to care about his vendors and employees. Kevin, owner of the magical Coast Roast (serving best cold brew in the city) saved St. Roch Market when it was quickly falling into critical condition about a year and a half ago. I live a block away from here and getting my coffee was a sobering experience because so many vendors had left the market. I was doubtful it would survive, which would be a shame given its original intentions. And while it was a polarizing subject in the neighborhood, it really did brighten up a blighted corner in the St. Claude corridor. Besides Coast Roast, I loved Lin's, where you can get a vegan poke bowl packed with amazing things. Fast forward a year and St. Roch's market slowly but surely grew with new vendors and the return of old favorites. Everyone seems happy there and the vibes the other night after Krewe Du Vieux were just so so good. It was bustling and a bunch of us sat at the bar in the back where drinks are yes, still reasonably priced in these crazy times. They even have a happy hour. And Lin's is still there and I like Dolma, the Mediterranean place and once some of the other vendors offer some vegan options, I'll be happy to check them out, too. It's a bright place to be during the day and in the evenings, the lights are dimmed and it's a whole other vibe. They even have comfy lounge seating on the front patio now. I value their presence in the neighborhood and can't wait to see what new things are being added as St. Roch Market evolves! read more

St. Roch Market is my go-to stop when I can't decide on what I want to eat. This food hall has multiple options and a great bar. There are wine tastings on Thursdays and many other social events. Check the calendar. I've tried almost every vendor at least once. Aritza's Kitchen, CR Coffee Shop, Junkanoo Cafe, Laksa, Lin's Poke and Sushi, and Olive Cheese & Crackers. It is definitely time for another visit so I can try Dolma. There is plenty of seating, board games, and some books near the couch/lounge area. Our small family group went to St. Roch Market for lunch. This is the perfect place, within easy walking distance of Frenchman's and Bourban Streets, to take a crowd that cannot agree on what to have for lunch. One member of the group had some delicious fried catfish and red beans with corn bread, which was delicious. Others had poke bowls which were extremely generous and yummy. Thai food by Chef Orawin was an incredible experience. Nola is know for amazing cuisine and my meal at St Roch market was my favorite of the entire trip! I ordered catfish Thai salad and it was AMAZING! Great Thai flavors (fish sauce, lime, etc) and and fish was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and incredibly crispy! The ambiance of the market is very nice and it's great to have lots of options (my friends and I tried different restaurants). Man, where do I start? Came in from a Carnival cruise and after getting situated and checking on family...looked for a place to eat. Fell into St. Roch Market and decided to visit with my 4 family members. Had a lot of different options!!! I got Lin's Sushi and Poke Bowl's Tonkotsu Ramen Bowl. I opted for "0" spice level. It had pork slices, pork belly and I added shrimp. Has a piece of collard green, seaweed pieces, a soft boiled egg, a dumpling, and hot pork broth. Best ramen I've had in a long time! My sister had the spicy ramen, my mom had a vegan taco with a side of avocado, and my sister in law had Mediterranean salad, fresh hummus, and delicious falafel. Also grabbed ginger lemonade tea and it was very strong ginger flavor. Packed a strong punch!! It also had a coffee shop and a few other places to choose from to eat. I have been wanting to check this out for a while now. We went on a Sunday so we could just walk around and check it out. I also wanted to get a mimosa which is only $5 Friday, Saturday and Sunday with any food purchase. I tried the frozen Zanzibar Boogie from the Bar which was strong which is to my liking. It wasn't sweet which I'm more into so I added a packet of sugar and it was perfect. Then I had a mimosa which was also strong and good! There's so much to choose from but we settled on trying an empanada from Aritza's Kitchen. It was truly amazing. So crispy and tasty. We're planning to go back for a Happy Hour and another Sunday. My kids wanted ramen but I came for the Bahamian restaurant, Junkanoo cafe, which didn't disappoint my home food craving. The only negative was the questionable utensils. I know dishwasher is the thing but a pre wash is important as well as post inspection before putting them out. New Orleans may claim to have the best food and seasonings but since we've moved here from The Bahamas we have not been impressed. Weird. I'm pretty sure that I've reviewed St Roch Market before but it's not there now. The market has had it's ups and downs since opening in 2015. It's currently under new management. And it shows! Compared to my trip around MG, my visit last month was a whole new venue! Vendor booths were almost completely filled and there was a good variety of food and drinks offered. My Mom had a falafel wrap and I had a sushirito both were delicious. It was Mom's first trip and she really enjoyed wandering through. I'm glad to see the Market back on the upswing! It was about 2pm on a sweltering summer day, and I was sooooo hungry. We parked a few blocks away and tried to get in at Morrow's which is across the street, but we were quoted a wait time of 2 and a half hours. My hunger doesn't tolerate wait times like that, so I asked Yelp for help. Lo and behold, St. Roch market was only 100 feet away! This is a small food hall compared to the ones I am accustomed to, but it is cute and clean and there's so much to choose from! Every vendor booth was occupied, and the choices included Mexican, Indian, seafood, sushi (vegan and regular sushi), a coffee bar, and a few other places. I thought I wanted a sandwich, but the first thing on the deli's menu was a sandwich for $20. It is a food hall, so I expected food-truck-price-vibes but a twenty-dollar sandwich with a side sold separately is not giving food hall. Instead, I had a delicious curry served with naan and a sweet dipping sauce for $11.99 from the Indian place. The vendor was really kind; she made it vegetarian for me and even asked what spice level I wanted. That food was fast and delicious! A place next to the Indian food vendor had HUGE perfect sugar cookies and double chocolate cookies so that was the perfect ending to the meal. I've been to NOLA a few times but mainly spent time in the French Quarter and Warehouse District. My coworker recommended I check out St. Roch Market since it's where he and his family often frequent when they visit New Orleans. They specifically go for the oysters. That being said, I thought St. Roch Market was a seafood restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to find a communal space with several food vendors. My friends and I checked out St. Roch Market around 12pm on a Monday. About half of the vendor stands were open, so we split up and tried different things. CR Coffee Shop - I got the sweet vanilla cream cold brew, which was what the doctor ordered. It had the perfect amount of sweetness. Family Cajun Kitchen - Their creamy garlic butter parmesan chicken was so flavorful and had a kick from the Cajun seasoning. Loved the roasted pepper taste. Taceaux Loceaux - Ordered a brisket and bulgogi taco. These were very tasty, but the side of beans were absolute fire! The Salted Pearl - I had a bad experience with Charbroiled oysters at a spot in the French Quarter and never gave them a shot again. My friend got a dozen of Salted Pearl's, which looked 1000x's better than the ones I tried before. They tasted as good as they looked. We visited the market again after many years of skipping it. There are new vendors to try. We enjoyed the spring rolls at Slow and Pho (they were huge!) and the drip coffee, vanilla latte, and salted caramel cookie from Coast Roast. There is a super friendly bartender at the bar at the end of the market (which also has an excellent happy hour). There was a new charcuterie business at the end of the hall too (which we didn't try). If you haven't been by the market in a while, give it another chance. It is still pricey and may be warm and crowded inside. Still worth a visit if you're in the area. read more
