Came here with a group of friends and it was such a fun experience!! This place is actually located IN the mall and on the second level. Feel free to ask for help if you get lost like we did haha. (Total noob status!!) Definitely would recommend trying their afternoon tea time. Also try getting a Groupon deal for afternoon tea service. For 4 people it costs $60 (normally $124) on groupon, but I used a 20% code and got it for $48. The thrifty asian in me is pretty proud for that!! PARKING: I parked in the mall's parking lot and got it validated. AFTERNOON TEA SERVICE: You get your pick of tea (from a book), four fourths of sandwiches, a scone, and two little pastries. TEA: Choosing the tea could be a little overwhelming considering it's this HUGE, heavy hardcover of pages on pages of different types of tea. I always start from what you're craving. The book is sectioned by flavors and types, so that's definitely a great starting point. Ask your server for any suggestions! -GYOKURO: This was a suggestion from our server. It was a great choice for a green tea, not too heavy and quite refreshing. On the lighter side of teas. -PEACH FAIRIES: This was a display tea where you can see a jasmine flower open up in green tea with peach flavorings. The smell was amazing. A little too light if anything, but I'd still order it again. -LYCHEE: This was really good as well. Also a display tea where you see a lychee fruit open up in green tea. The smell is amazing! -YIN-ZHEN (SILVER NEEDLES): A first quality tea. I don't know if it was just served to us too early, but it was way too light. Would not recommend this. Very accommodating! -SMOKED SALMON: Served open faced. Really enjoyed the smoked salmon with cream cheese! -PUNJAB: Basically an egg salad sandwich. Tasted exactly how I expected it to! Yum! -LIMERICK: This was very unique and I enjoyed its refreshing taste. It came with cucumber, cheese, and green onions. -SOUCHONG CHICKEN: Chicken with mayo and cranberry sauce. Didn't think I would like it, but found it quite yummy! SCONES: Scones came out warm. Was given a blueberry and plain scone and split it with whoever I was sharing a tower with. Recommend eating the scones with the whipped cream and jam spread! The scones don't taste as good the longer its out because it gets all hard, so be hasty! PASTRIES: Got a chocolate tart pastry thing with a blackberry on top. I only liked the blackberry haha. Got another shortbread cookie with strawberry on top. I only liked the strawberry haha. When I walked in, no staff greeted us and then we found out that the whole entire place was booked for a special event. The staff member seemed pretty stressed out and it made us feel bad for even stopping by. I wish there was a sign at the door to let customers know that the place was reserved for a special event because that would have been understandable and much more efficient. I've gone to the Chado Tea Room in Little Tokyo before and had to stop going there because I had rude servers so I'm really hoping that this is not the case for all Chado Tea Room locations. read more

My cousin brought me here for my birthday, and she knows how much I like tea, especially my chai tea! I need it everydayyyy!!! Also, this place is at the mall, so you have to do a bit of walking to get there, and we shopped for a bit before. But let's review everything: Reena's Chai Spice (2)- I was excited for this tea && the blend. It was so intimidating walking into the place with all the different teas, and I am a tea drinker just stick to the chai's && breakfast tea's. I don't really like the flavored ones so much. So anyways it comes out in a cute tea pot, they even already stirred in cream and sugar. BIG PROBLEM COMING: IT WASN'T HOT!!! My cousin and I made them even switch it, and ask them if they could bring it much hotter, it still wasn't very hot like the others around us it seemed, felt like they re-heated it, but didn't steam or boil it! Honestly I would have preferred STARBUCKS' chai tea latte over what we got! I even have a blend at home that tastes much better than what we got, it made me sad :( So we got the afternoon tea service or something which is three tiers, we got the three choices of sandwiches (all of them come with crusts cut off): Cucumber with cream (3)- this was probably my favorite compared to all the sandwiches, they needed to put more cream cheese on there! Also good thing for the onions that added flavor otherwise I probably would have rated it a 2. They also needed salt & pepper, I think I could have made better at home though. Chicken with cranberry jam (1)- I didn't really enjoy this at all, the chicken was dry and not flavored, the cranberry was good, but just did not overall do it for me. Lemon Bundt Cake (with lemon curd filling) (4)- this was probably my favorite thing here! I love lemon cakes and they did a good job with the filling, it was so indulgent I could have probably taken home a whole cake! Service (2.5)- Also, the service wasn't amazing either, we had to tell them a couple of times to clear our stuff or bring something, they were nice, but kind of just taking their time or not paying attention to us when they needed to be. I don't do high tea normally. However after the experience at Chado I think I may change my mind. The food and the tea are great. I mean if you are a guy like me who wants to both feel the atmosphere and satisfy the appetite, Chado is a nice place. For me, what amazed me is their sandwiches and panini. The cranberry+chicken one is really worth to try. And the salmon panini is crispy at the first bite but easy to chew and melt in your mouth perfectly. I have been to The Peninsula'a tea room also, but this experience at Chado is more memorable. Oh, maybe because you can pay less but enjoy at the equal level. Only thing I don't like is the dining environment which is kind of packed and the decoration was just okay. First off, our waiter Fernando was awesome. Secondly, this spot isn't as intimate as it's partner spot near little tokyo but that's to be expected seeing as this one is located within a very popular mall. The tomato soup was superb as usual. I've never tried the alternative salad but I advise not skipping this delicious option for lettuce of any kind. The sandwiches were good except for the egg salad which tasted like it was left in the fridge a tad too long... Needless to say I didn't risk finishing it. The salmon and cranberry chicken were on point and the scones were perfectly warm and buttery. I don't know what the strawberry whipped dip for the scones is but I put it on the dessert cookie and it was delish. We didn't need a togo box and downed the tea float with pleasure. I also drank my entire pot of brendans black tea which tasted pretty much like a breakfast/earl grey blend. Nothing special so I wouldn't order it again. I highly recommend purchasing the groupon to save some skrilla. I probably wouldn't return to this location because though the service was great, it definitely feels like you are dining near a mall. The food tray we received was tasty and he suggested we start with the scone (with cream and jam, oh my). I came here with my aunt for her belated birthday dinner and we both loved it. It was my first time here. She has been to Chado in Pasadena and in Little Tokyo, but never to this location. We came here last night and it was hectic trying to find parking and the tea room. There was a huge premier going on across the street at Jimmy Kimmel Live. A lot of the streets were blocked off and a stampede of people crowded the streets. I found myself walking around in circles, up and down the escalators until I finally found Chado tea room. I made a reservation for two for six o'clock since they closed at seven. I got there 10 minutes late since I couldn't find the place, but the staff was nice about it. She informed me that she will get the food started since kitchen closes promptly at 6, but had waited until I got there. I thought that was so nice of them!! My aunt arrived shortly after and the lady left us alone for 5 minutes so we can pick our teas. The tea book is extensive; listing teas anywhere from Japan to India and the likes. I had the passion fruit berry tea, and my aunt the St. Mark, I believe. The teapots are super cute! The tomato soup is excellent and the toast was lightly toasted and complimented the soup well. I really liked the cucumber sandwich. I can live without the other two, they're too sweet for my liking. The blueberry scone was delightful. It was my first time having one and Chado did not disappoint. I can't say much about the cookies and chocolate since I didn't touch them. Chado has a really cute atmosphere. Everything is so cute, and the amount of tea leaves lined up on the wall is impressive. In all in, I had a great time here at Chado. This was an excellent experience with my young adult daugther. She is really into teas, so I thought this would be a wonderful place for us to relax and for mommy to be nosey. :) The decoration in the tea house was very nice. They had little personal tables for two or whatever your party prefer. We had the Chocolate and tea pairing, mmm good. The perfect piece of chocolate paired with a lite tea. Our server Fernando was a little cutie with a personality. He even let me feel his beard after I got a tea waste off the champange tea. We parked in the Loews Hotel and got validation. My friend and I both ordered the regular afternoon tea service, which was $18 per person. Had the Groupon... $30 for afternoon tea and $25 of loose leaf teas... If you want to go on a weekend, book weeks in advance. It's impossible to get a reservation for afternoon tea here on a weekend. We have flexible work schedules so we managed to get in around 1:30 on a Thursday. It's still not easy. Happily, they were willing to be flexible on the sandwich menu since neither of us eat salmon... And they are SO good at telling you to eat the scones first while they're still warm and fresh. Awesome. We had a lovely time and the food was too plentiful - they let us take it home. We even received some new tea education through the chosen selections. I love the pineapple cake and cookie in the Afternoon Tea Service Deal. In order of best, sandwiches, I like, salmon, onion, egg, then turkey cranberry. I wish there was a variety of breads, so if you want something a little fancy, this is not the place. The establishment itself is small, but well kept. There is no view. It is located in the Hollywood Highland down a small corridor. Parking is validated $2 for first 2 hours, but gets a little spendy after that, so watch your time if you don't want to break the bank in parking. I have been to the Chado in Little Tokyo and Pasadena. Among the three, this place is not as busy. That is what I most enjoyed about this Chado. I got to bond with my girlfriends without the chaos or being rushed out. The service was inviting and friendly. I would recommend this Chado location if you want a more low key Tea Room. They have so many choices of teas. I tried the Lychee Nut Jasmine and it was just the kind of tea I was looking for. Their sandwiches come on toasted bread so as you walk in, you smell the deliciousness of buttered toast. The sandwich are just okay overall. The scones are pretty good, but not the best. And the dessert it comes with is pretty plane. We got the Celebration that comes with a delicious dessert float. Overall, the tea sandwiches are just okay. You can also order other things on the menu. So, if you are in the area and want afternoon tea, give this place a try. We used a travelzoo deal, so look out for those. read more

Very nice staff. Came here twice. First time was a triple date where the girls picked this place. Second time was surprise b-day tea/lunch for my girl. The place is small and tucked away near the back of Hollywood and Highland so there isn't the busy Hollywood crowd to swim through. Parking is part of the parking structure for the mall and they do validate (which is just half off the first two hours, not free). Unlike some other tea places, the decoration is normal and not filled with old fluffy, flowery, and lacy girly stuff that makes a grown man wonder about his sexuality for dining there. It looks like a normal eatery. They have a huge variety of teas to select from, which is great for me. The sandwiches are okay. Their scones are great when fresh out of the oven. Aside from the tea-style sandwiches, you can opt for a regular dining menu of paninies and what not. So a grown man who likes tea and sandwiches can enjoy a menu without feeling emasculated. another great thing about this place is that they gave my girl a slice of cake for her b-day, which isn't as common as it use to be. Loved this place! Took my mom here for mother's day, and we happened to visit the same day as the SOLO premier which was also held at Hollywood and Highland. Despite the craziness with that, they were still super helpful and serving. Everything was on point - we did the afternoon tea service and the chocolate tasting. Afternoon tea foods were light and refreshing and a good appetizer sized snack in advance of our dinner reservations that evening. The chocolate tasting was 4 chocolates, each paired with their own tea. Everything was paired amazingly well and the butterscotch tea paired with the last chocolate was literally like dessert after dessert, without being too much or too sweet. My mom loved it and our group as well. Definitely highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something classy and delicious (especially if you're on a budget - super good price for the value) to start your evening or just as an afternoon activity. read more

My childhood bestie really wanted to do an afternoon tea date for a girl's day so I decided get the Groupon deal for us. I have to say it was quite an enjoyable experience! When we walked in, the place was super empty and quite warm. To be honest, I was a little bit skeptical because there was no music playing and the place was awkwardly quiet. But Jay, the host, knew exactly how to handle the situation and greeted with a warm welcome and seated us right away. In terms of the menu and tea, the place offers many flavors of the main 6 teas (i.e. Green, Black, Yellow, White, Oolong and Pu-erh). The tea menu comes in a separate booklet and is quite comprehensive (my friend and I ended up staring at the book for a really long time LOL). As for the food, you can get the afternoon tea set or order paninis and soup a la carte. Since we got the Groupon Deal, we were pretty much set on getting the Afternoon Tea Set which comes with 3 tiers filled with sandwiches, scones and desserts + 2 pots of tea. With the help of Jay's recommendation, we decided to pick their White Champagne Raspberry Oolong and Alice's Wondertea. Both teas were quite fragrant and brewed nicely. The White Champagne Raspberry definitely lived up to it's name and was my personal favorite. When I took a sip of it, I couldn't believe that it was tea. Alice's Wondertea also had a great chocolate-ly flavor to it and came off as light (vs. being too bitter). As for the tea set, it is filling as it is pretty carb heavy (but what do you expect with 4 half sandwiches, scones, and cookies lol). Overall, most of the sandwiches were pretty good except for the egg salad one (my friend and I weren't fans of them- something about the egg salad didn't work for us). The scones came out warm and had a nice buttery taste to it. For dessert, we got 2 thin shortbread cookies and 2 small macarons- which definitely sweetened the deal for our meal. We also ordered their Tomato Basil Soup to start off our meal, and it also tasted great. The flavors of the soup were there and it was not too salty. Jay also came over to our table and gave us a lovely tutorial of all the teas as well (which was pretty cool!). You can also get parking validation at this location. I used a Living Social deal ($25 for Celebration Tea for two, which was half price). That included, for each of us: a pot of tea (4 cups of tea), a small soup or salad, four different half-sandwiches, a scone with jam and cream (I don't like cream; I assume it was standard clotted cream), one plain shortbread cookie, a small piece of cake, and a tea float. I had salad (small with mixed greens, tomatoes, and cucumber), my friend had tomato basil soup, both pretty basic but good, though my balsamic vinaigrette dressing was a bit oily. The tomato basil soup wasn't very heavy on the basil, very mild. I'm super picky, so I asked for my sandwiches without dill or green onions, and they honored my request, though with one sandwich the green onions were already mixed in, so they substituted a different one, which was fine. The sandwiches were smallish but not minuscule. They were on brown bread, not toasted. (As it turns out, both the dill and green onions on my friend's sandwiches just seemed to be on the outside edge or as a garnish, and looked easy enough to remove; they weren't mixed in with the sandwiches' fillings.) I loved the scone but I've never met a scone I didn't like. Could have used a more generous portion of jam to go on it (since I don't like clotted cream), but the jam was good, very thick. Can't comment on the cookie because I was too full to eat it and then forgot my to-go container. It looked very basic and plain. The dark chocolate cake was good but I only had a bite. Small piece of cake, but honestly, after drinking a whole pot of tea to myself, I couldn't eat another bite. I'm sad that I don't have my leftovers. I'm not big on floats and thought it was weird. It's a small ice cream float made with tea instead of soda. I didn't like the tea with my ice cream; my friend didn't like the ice cream with her tea. So that bit, we both could have done without. It's a lot of sweets considering you also get a cookie, scone and cake. The staff that served us (two different women) were both very friendly, attentive and helpful, and the one who took our orders seemed very knowledgeable about the tea. I'm pretty basic and had Earl Grey, but my friend asked for the best of some sort of tea, and she was very pleased with the one the girl suggested and said it was great. The little teapots were whimsical and my friend and I both thought they were cute. I would go back if I had a friend who was really into tea, especially if I had a half-off coupon again. Tips: I had problems making a reservation on short notice (my deal was expiring) and each time I was able to get my friend to commit to a time, by the time I called, they were booked. Finally got a seating on a Monday. I suspect weekends are busy there. The last seating is at 6:30 and they close at 8. (They told me on the phone that the kitchen closes after you make your order at the 6:30 seating, so don't be late.) When we got there early, around 5:45 for our 6:30 reservation, the place was nearly empty and they sat us right away. It's not very big, but wasn't at all crowded and they let us sit and gab at a leisurely pace. From other Yelpers' comments, I'd suggest going at a less crowded time if possible, since for us, service was really good. However, we were there at the end of the day and they were out of a few of the cake choices. They do validate parking, but you only get 2 hours free with validation and it's $1 for each 15 minutes after that. Don't forget to factor in traffic and the time it takes to find a parking spot in their structure, if you drive there. My boyfriend and I discovered this tea room while we were in Hollywood and I wanted to take a peek inside. It is a cute setting with a friendly, welcome staff. They offered us to try the sample and seated us at a table to serve the samples to us. We tried the mango, passion fruit, green tea and chai teas. It was light and relaxing. I loved it and bought the lychee blooming tea and a teapot. I wish there was one in NYC and I would go here all the time. Definitely recommend you you check it out if you enjoy having tea. read more
