Let me start by saying my mom and I frequent tea rooms a lot, we love high tea and trying new rooms. That said we've tried Chado in Pasadena and weren't impressed but this was Hollywood and I had a groupon. So we figured, eh, what the hell let's go. SO MUCH BETTER than Pasadena! Like night and day! The ambiance was nicer and had that minimalist feel mixed with Japanese tea house appeal. If you've never been to high tea, here's what it's about. You get a lot of tea for yourself alone, and a scone, sandwiches (usually four) and dessert. If you've never been to Chado? Be prepared to study your tea menu. Yea, you read that right. Tea Menu. It's a book. Why? Because Chados signature is high quality tea from China, India, Japan, and Taiwan. And it's all tea. Black, White, Green, Yello, Oolong, Scented, Blooming, you name it they probably have it. So it's an experience with tea alone. I had a scented blooming Jasmine, and my mom had a Jasmine White. Both very deleacte flavors and aromatic. Mine more so because it was a scented. Served perfectly and the first cup poured for you. Beautiful presentation. The scone was the best I've had yet, thick crust but not crunchy and moist soft inside. Smelled of almond and cinnamon but there was a fruit I'm not sure what, it was an appearance more than a flavor. Listen, this was good by itself (as a good scone should be) but the jam was amazing and the cream so light and fluffy. There was barely a taste to the cream but just enough hint that when added to the scone it was delicious. Sandwiches were a chicken and cranberry, chicken was intentially dry an delicious unseasoned because the cranberry was so sweet and flavorful anything on the chicken would have made a taste massacre. This was perfect. The traditional cucumber and cream cheese was twisted with the addition of scallions that gave an elevated taste from the usual boring sandwich. The egg was so light, tarragon and what had to be a drop if at all of mayo maybe this not your momma she egg salad. This was a sophisticated egg salad and we could have eaten like four of them each. The last sandwich was an open faced cream cheese and lox with a sprig of tyme (I think) and a thin lemon wedge. Listen, if you like lox, you've probably had cream cheese with it on a bagel and are thinking "well this doesn't sound impressive", that hint of lemon squeezed on and the herb? Total changer here, plus the lox were a good grade and fresh. Everything was served on lightly toasted white bread which I really liked. By this time dessert was just too much! But it was a sugar cookie with a half of strawberry and a macaroon of varying flavors. Our Groupon included a tasting which was fun! It was a small little shot selection of various teas and really nice to give a hint of something you may have wanted to try. There was a White, Yellow, Green, Monkey-picked Oolong, Darjeng, And Black. If you want a nice high tea with great food, service, and tea selection, head to Chado and the Dolby. Soon as I stepped in, my initial reaction was pure excitement! I mean who doesn't like the idea of fancy high tea? I came here with my sister and we had a blast!! Our waiter was extremely sweet from the moment we arrived to when we left. The only problem is she talked a LOT and fast, making it hard to understand the basic gist of the set up. We have a few dietary restrictions so it was really awesome they accommodated and allowed us to have alternatives. First they brought out our tea (which we chose from sooooooo many different options) and of course we each had our own pot of flavor. A couple of minutes after they served fine chocolates with strawberries and they were soo good, truly tasted like high quality chocolate. Then they brought out the tomato soup (best tomato soup I ever had---y'all put dairy in it?!!) Shortly after, they brought the 3 tier plates of sandwiches, hot and fresh scones and macarons. Everything was delicious, but I have to say this...I don't think it was worth 76 dollars for two people!! I took off a star for the price but I guess it's an experience so it's worth it? I don't know, if what I said was convincing, you should definitely try it out. And as a tea connoisseur, the selection of teas they had nearly made me cry tears of happiness. I mean the entire back wall is FILLED with so many options, how on earth are we supposed to make a decision in a timely manner?! They sell all their flavors and other super cute things such as tea pots and cups. Driving in this god forsaken area always gives me anxiety, pedestrians swiftly coming out of nowhere basically asking to get run over so watch out for that (as a matter of fact, take such heed in all of a SoCal) Parking is absolutely terrible, $15?!!!! This ain't Beverly Hills, it's literally the ghettos! They validate but only 2 hours and at least brought down our cost to $7 (our total time of stay was 3.5 hours) I had a really nice time and at least this location is in a cool place in Hollywood surrounding all the popular touristy spots! read more

I got a ($30) Groupon for their Afternoon Tea for 2 plus 2 bags of tea to take home. At first we thought we can pick out any tea in the shop. But no, they limit you to 3 or 4 choices and they all smell kinda weird. I am not a Tea expert so I can't tell if those are good tea or bad tea. The service was good at first, but not when they started to get busy. Waited 10 mins just to get the check. The Sandwich and Scone was OK, I had better elsewhere. I came here with a group of four for a chocolate and tea tasting deal from livingsocial.com. The experience was great. We were seated by the entrance by their well decorated shelves of tea cups and trinkets. My groups intentions were only to try the sampling but we ended up eating there as well. The tea tasting with complementary chocolate per tea was amazing. Our host, Jay, was awesome. He was super friendly and put up with our tea questions. After having the tasting, we ordered lunch; I had ordered two sandwiches (a cucumber cream cheese and the other was an egg) with soup. TOMATO SOUP AND HAM & SWISS TOASTED SANDWICH: The tomato soup is one of their most popular items on the menu. It is so delicious! It goes perfectly with a sandwich. As I recently came back from London, Ive been looking for tea rooms in LA and am glad I found this place. Parking is in the Hollywood & Highland mall, which the store will give you a validation ticket for I believe 2 hours for $3 if I remember correctly, but my friend's validation ticket didnt work so she ended up paying $14. The store is on the second floor of the mall, next to the Dolby theater. The store is so cute, full of random teapots, tea cup sets and so many canisters of teas you can purchase to dine in or take tea leaves home. Their "list" of available teas is basically a book that categorizes their teas by type, flavor notes, strength etc. If you're not sure, just ask the workers ad they will give you recommendations. The worker was very nice and helpful, but the minus one star is while my friend and I were enjoying our afternoon tea, I heard a clipping noise and noticed the worker was clipping her nails at the register area, which I was surprised by. The Afternoon tea was very reasonably priced and we were stuffed afterwards: scones with cream and jam, tea sandwiches (not very traditional but still yummmy), and desserts. I added on a soup. You can get a pricier (not too much more) afternoon tea for extra desserts and soup or salad added. Saw a coupon for Tea for Two and had to come back after 2 years. The ambiance is nice and the environment was somewhat quiet aside from the loud ladies next to us. The teas were so delicious and the sandwiches too! I noticed they changed their scones since the last time we were here. They're harder, but surprisingly I didn't mind it. Service was great. Friendly staff. I guess my only real complaint is that they slap you with a bill to collect taxes for the Groupon even though you paid a flat price for it. Wasn't much so I didn't fuss. Just steps away from the mess that is Hollywood Boulevard is a calm and serene oasis! Located inside the shopping plaza connected to Dolby Theatre, Chado Tea Room boasts over 300 different teas and the high-tea experience where you can enjoy tea sandwiches, scones and mini desserts on a beautiful tray as if you're in England. After you're seated you're handed a menu which is a giant book that explains the art of tea, including how to prepare each type (there are different temperatures and steeping times for each) and about the regions and histories of them (I didn't even know there was such a thing as yellow tea!). We tried this place out with a Groupon, which is offered as a blooming tea tasting with scones for 2 people OR a full afternoon tea with food for 2 people. We got the latter, which allowed us to have two full teapots of our choice, and a 3-tier tray of mini sandwiches, scones and mini desserts (cake and cookies). The mini sandwiches included: cream cheese and cucumber, smoked salmon, and chicken salad. They were beautiful and delicious. Everyone knows that sandwiches taste better when the crusts are cut off! I thought the scones were a little dry, but I like the housemade whip that came with it. They had sweet whip with it, but we asked if they had clotted cream (a traditional English topping) and they didn't. In addition to our Groupon, we ordered a bowl of housemade tomato soup which came with thin slices of toast. Wow, the tomato soup was incredibly delicious with its fresh flavors. I would highly recommend it! The service here was AMAZING. Recognizing that we were new to tea and indecisive about what to pick, the owner/manager let us have a third pot on the house of another choice we were eyeing. Also, because we were Groupon customers, we were treated to a sampling of 3 additional cups of tea. I've never gotten BETTER treatment for using a Groupon, so this was great! Hello everyone, my new update. I went for tea last week with my sister and I thought yeah, I been here it will be great but..NO!! I ordered my Afternoon meal and my sister did her's separately but it came unto the same tier which I did not expect so different from my first experience which was 2 tiers. Anyway when the lunch came the Tier was peeling off looked awful then it had someone hair unto my Lunch, just DISGUSTING. My sister,, that was her first time there. The server Alex was apologizing for everything and I asked for paper napkins and it looked like toilet paper hand drying napkins. GET IT TOGETHER!! I've been coming to this Chado Tea Room location for many years (seen them switch locations at Hollywood/Highland 3 times!) ... it is my ultimate favorite spot for tea, sandwiches, and delicious treats. I work nearby so I'm in quite a lot, and the staff are always so sweet to me! This is my go-to spot when taking friends and family in from out of town, or if I want an intimate lunch. When I walk in the staff know my tea order before I even see a menu (that's how many times I come here lol)... the fact they remember what I like makes me feel special every time. As a little girl I remember having tea parties with my friends, like most girls do. We invited our friends and pretend to drink tea like we were grown... And before you know it, we're really grown playing tea house. I went to Chado Tea Room after purchasing a Groupon for $25 with a value of $50. I had never been to a tea house so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, this place felt more like a restaurant with a little shop inside. I guess I was looking for more of a tea house feel. When we first arrived they told us to pick out the tea we wanted. There were so many choices it was overwhelming. There had to be hundreds of different teas. We eventually decided on the Peach Fairies blooming tea. It tasted good but the coolest part was that you could see flowers blooming in the tea pot. I had never seen tea that bloomed before. I'm not big on tea but I was happily surprised when in tasted good. Shortly after we received was our tea our first course came out. It was tomato bisque soup that was a accompanied by bread. They both tasted pretty good. Lastly they brought a tier of food. It was a tier of 3 foods, which had different kinds of finger sandwiches, scones, shortbread cookies, and cake. They served of a choice of 3 different sandwiches which were egg salad, cucumber/cream cheese, and Souchong chicken sandwiches. All of them tasted delicious. I loved all the food and my only complaint about this place was that I wish it felt more like a teahouse. It felt like we were in a small restaurant in the middle of Hollywood and Highland. I've always wanted to attend a formal tea house and experience the taste of a true authentic hot tea. Dana K. and I got the opportunity to go together one afternoon and we enjoyed a quiet light tea for lunch. I was anticipating an old English traditional tea room (I wasn't really paying much attention to the name of the tea house at this time), however when we arrived the setting, ambiance and teas were far from what I expected. Instead was a beautiful display of Chinese decor, grand wooden shelves lying the walls with what seemed like thousands of teas enclosed in large black tins. It was better than what I anticipated and I could hardly wait to try the tea. The list of teas was endless, in fact overwhelming and confusing; however the lady that came to assist us was kind to help explain where to start, what teas were popular and gave nice suggestions. Both my friend and I picked a flowering tea so we could watch a bloom open in the hot tea pot. Along side our tea we were served a nice display of tea sandwiches, tomato bisque soup, scones, shortbread cookies, cake and fresh strawberries. My friend's tea (Peach Fairies) tasted much better than mine (I can't remember the name), I ended up drinking her's and she ended up eating my tea sandwiches and scones. It all worked out-we both were happy. A few drawbacks were the room was extremely cold. The waiter and waitress were very difficult to understand and I felt bad asking them to constantly repeat themselves, also I felt we didn't get to sit and relax while there on the account we felt pressured to hurry, drink our tea and leave. The location is also situated on a corner in Hollywood where there is lots of traffic, people walking by, distractions and loud noise. I've been to the location in Pasadena which was much better. This location is at hollywood and highland. We walked in around 4pm for a late tea and it was chaotic, not because of the number of patrons but the staff and tables were a mess. None of the tables were cleared off and the staff looked overwhelmed. Maybe they had a rush right before I got there but it was really strange. Service took a while...I wouldn't necessarily say they were understaffed but just super slow and had horrible prioritization skills. When my tea pot came out, it was warm, it should have been hot. When pouring my 2nd cup, the water was barely luke warm so I asked for more hot water and it was like pulling teeth. At other tea houses, they come around with more hot water without you having to ask. To top it off, they didn't even bring out milk or lemon with the tea. I had to request it. The starter was a choice of salad or tomato basil soup. The soup was fairly good but it didn't seem like tomato basil, it reminded me of chicken tikka masala sauce. If I threw in chicken and had basmati rice, it would have been perfect. The sandwiches were lacking...we each got 4 different type. Cucumber, egg salad, chicken and smoked salmon. They were all dry and they barely used any mayo, cream cheese, etc., and something was simply missing in terms of the flavor. The 2nd tier had a currant scone which was probably the best item they served. It came with whipped cream/strawberry on a chipped plate. I should have taken pictures, my friends whipped cream also came on a chipped plate, how coincidental. The last and bottom tier had a cookie and a piece of cake. The cookie wasn't good, I let my friend take my cake home. To no surprise it took forever to get a to-go box and bill. My friends and I went here last weekend with a groupon and it was such a fun time (Neesha S., you are the bomb!). We stayed for more than 4 hours and loved that no one was in a hurry to rush us out. The sandwiches that come with the tea were good but the scones stole the show....they were delicious!! The chicken with cranberry sandwich was a bit dry but I loved the smoked salmon sandwich as well as the cucumber and dill one. There were so many teas to choose from...we tried 4 of them (green, jasmine, black and pearl white) and they all were phenomenal. I loved the fact that my friend wanted to have her tea with milk and the black tea she ordered wasn't right for milk, so they brought an extra black tea with no charge....awesome service! It's a bit hard to find as it tucked away in a corner of the mall. I had to ask one of the other store owners as I walked all over the 2nd floor but still couldn't locate it. Best parking is the Kodak theatre structure but be mindful that its $2 after validation but I think that is only for an hour as my friends ended up paying $9 for parking (we did stay for more than 4 hours!). If you are close to the metro, I would suggest taking the red line. It dropped me right in front of the mall and it made for a great ride! Chado tea is a very hidden spot located on the second floor of the mall! It is quite a small location but I feel like it is more intimate. We had a party of five girls all wanting to get in some girl time. It was nice and the food was pretty good. I wasn't really expecting much when I heard about cucumber sandwiches and scones. But everything was actually pretty lovely and very tasty. The tea I got was a matcha green tea. I love matcha and I loved this tea! It wasn't too strong of a flavor and it was quite light. Our server was an expert at teas telling us what he would recommend if we liked sweet flavors, fruits or just plain black tea. We sat outside on the patio side. It wasn't at all chilly and the outside seemed more private and we were able to chat it up! A fun and very fun experience. I would suggest everyone to try having a tea date. Prior to arriving at Chado, I was expecting a beautiful scenery. What was I thinking? It's Hollywood...the only type of greenery would be the lettuce on the floor from someone's salad. Nonetheless, the design of Chado was still very impressive. Tea jars lined up all over the wall and glass window towards the outside of the tea room. Service was attentive and friendly, how I imagine a tea room service to be (almost calming). We decided with the celebratory tea set for two with our Living Social deal ($25 for Celebration Tea for Two which is half off). I had the Rose Sencha Tea which was very floral and blended very well with the sandwiches and scones from the tier the tea set came with. My friend had the Genmaicha which tasted very roasted and nutty and was also a very good tea. I loved the Tomato Bisque (not a strong tomato flavor), Salad (pick either one to start with), Egg Sandwich and Smoked Salmon sandwiches. Everything else was decent. My friend bought a Groupon deal (50% off! Awesome!) and she brought me along with two others for their Celebration Tea service. Totally worth it with that deal. Otherwise, it would be a bit overpriced. Although it's kind of a random location to have a tea room (on Hollywood and Highland), it's a nice little quiet escape from all the crazy hubbub outside on the streets. I've been to the Chado Tea Room in Little Tokyo and overall I prefer that other location since it's a little nicer, especially the outdoor seating. The sandwiches at the other location were also a little better in quality, but similar in content. We each got 4 finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon, egg salad, and chicken & cranberry). I personally really didn't like the egg salad sandwich. It was way too salty and looked a little old/gray. I really liked the salmon and the chicken & cranberry though! The tea I got was pretty good. I got the Mauritius tea which is an African black tea, and one of their most popular ones supposedly. It tasted good with a little milk in it. Not amazing but not bad! We got a choice between soup or salad. I chose soup because I love tomato bisque and that's what they offered. Tasted yummyyyy, especially with the little pieces of toasted rye(?) bread! My favorite part of this afternoon tea though were the SCONES! So delicious! Definitely eat this first while it's still warm. Tastes great with the cream and jam. I wish they had lemon curd here too.. the other desserts were just A-OK. The Celebration Tea comes with ice cream tea float but I didn't think it was that great. Wow, what a great experience! I had never heard of Chado tea room before and really only found it because I procrastinated and didn't make reservations for mother's day weekend tea far enough in advance... I was calling and calling all the different tea rooms we had been to before and got nothing! All booked. But, then I called Chado. Miraculously, they had room! I was a little skeptical at first because Chado only charged $18 per person for Afternoon Tea Service while all the other places I've been to charge at least $36, sometimes $60, per person! But, boy, was I right to give it a chance. Chado gave us the same fantastic experience as all the other high tea places I've been to, it was great! The food was delicious, came on a three tiered platter. There were so many different teas to try, a little overwhelming actually, haha. But, so fun! The servers were so attentive and friendly and let us sample teas when we couldn't decide. Overall, an amazing time and for a fraction of the price! Only downside was the location. VERY tricky to find. It's IN THE MALL on Hollywood and Highland. I had no idea it was in the mall and kept driving around trying to look for a standalone building. It does not exist. It's on the second floor of the mall next to the Dolby Theater. That being said, since it's in the mall, it doesn't really give you the tea room atmosphere. It's just a small little shop with a bunch of plain white tables. While the tea jars lining the walls are cool to look at, that's about it. But, if you're not going for the atmosphere and instead are just looking for a fun tea experience with great food, this place hits the spot. Definitely recommended. I will be back! read more

I've been to the Chado Tea Room in Pasadena years ago. It was my first afternoon tea time experience but I don't think I enjoyed it that much. Same goes for this location! I came with some girlfriends as one of them had purchased the groupon deal. I believe the groupon included two orders of afternoon tea and two different varieties of loose tea leaves to take home. I'm not sure which loose tea leaves my friend chose but it came in cute little tin cans! She did mention that the selection of tea was very limited. The afternoon tea sets came with a variety of sandwiches, a scone, and mini desserts. The scones were delicious! Definitely the best part of the meal and probably the best scone I've ever had! It was very moist inside but had a great bite on the outside. The sandwiches was a different story. None of them stood out to me. I just remembered they were very dry and bland. I think I can make a better sandwich at home. I'm not kidding!! The teas were meh. We had two separate pots of lavender early grey and some jasmine tea. I think it's ridiculous that they don't include the tea leaves in the pot. A majority of the mini desserts were left untouched. The service here is pretty awful and inconsistent. We had several waiters helping us and it always took them a good amount of time to get us napkins, water, etc. My friend asked for a cup of hot water and it didn't come out until I asked them again. As we were ordering, my friend asked the waiter if he could leave the tea leaves in the pot. When they brought out the tea, he said his coworker "tossed out the tea leaves" and that's why he didn't include them. My friend who frequents the Pasadena location suggested I go there next time around. But I think Chado Tea Room and I just don't mix! read more

Why have I not done this before? I came with a group of 16 people on a Saturday afternoon and it was awesome. Place wasn't too crowded and we got a lot of attention from the servers. It was actually hard to find, tucked away in the Hollywood and highland mall. The pro is that the parking can be validated for $2 for the first two hours. This small store is really cute and bright. We had a fixed menu so we tried a variety of teas including Green tea marigold with passionfruit, white champagne with raspberry, lavender and rose petals, roobois. A perfect way to chat casually with friends. In addition we got a three tiered tray of yummy goodies. We started in the middle with the warm scones with cream and strawberries as well as with a variety of jams. The top tier had a bunch of sandwiches included smoked salmon, chicken and cranberry, egg salad, and one other delicious one. The bottom is the chocolate dessert with strawberries and mousse. Everything was delicious. It was $23 overall, which I thought was a great deal. A year after my Groupon expired for the Celebration Tea for four. A lady of one (me) popped in to celebrate. I got started with a creamy tomato soup and pot of black currant tea. It was a nice start to my afternoon tea experience. The three tiered delicacies arrived shortly after. The scone was nice and warm and melt in your mouth. I don't really care too much for dry, crumbly biscuits. The cream was light and sweet, however I was expecting a more traditional clotted cream. The sandwiches were just the right portion amount for a taste of each. I did recall at the end of the menu for the Celebration Tea there was an option of a chocolate mousse or a tea float, but I was pretty full of tea and everything else that I don't think I could've had another bite. Since my Groupon was valued at more than just the Celebration Tea I was able to pick up two teas to go, a loose leaf Earl Grey and a blooming Lychee that I'm pretty excited to have when I get home. It wasn't too busy when I got there on a Friday afternoon. It's a very casual setting. My server Fernando was really nice and on pointe with checking in on me and making sure I knew that I had credit to use on my Groupon. This place is lovely and really is more like 4.5 stars! I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time so when I saw a Groupon for this place, I snatched it up! I made reservations over the phone about a week to two weeks in advance but I don't think we would have even had a problem walking in... at 4pm on a Tuesday. It really wasn't busy (there were only a couple other people there!). However, my friend wanted to make reservations for Sunday and were told that they were booked 2 months in advance. So if you want to go on a weekend/for a special occasion, plan ahead! Go during the week and you're fine! The only downfall of this place is the location I think. Yes, you get a lot of foot traffic because it's Hollywood & Highland but it doesn't have that "tea house" feel! I have to say, the service here is exceptional! The people were extremely friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable about the teas. I also didn't have any problem using the Groupon, nor was I treated any different because of it. As I said, service was impeccable. We had the Afternoon Tea for Two and we each got our own little pot of tea. I chose the White Peony Tea (which I somewhat regret - the tea was okay but a little too weak for my taste - I would have liked something stronger) and my mom had the Russian Samovar Fruity Tea, which I really enjoyed. The flavors of that tea were much stronger and it just had a lovely bold flavor. Then we were brought out our tier of food: First Tier: There were about 8 little finger sandwiches. Limerick: This sandwich was a Cucumber & Cream Cheese with Green Onions! I passed on this because I don't like cream cheese but it looked good and my mom really enjoyed it. Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Open Faced Sandwich: I also didn't taste this one, but my mom really enjoyed it. She said it was very tasty and flavorful. The Punjab Sandwich: This was by far my favorite! This one was an egg sandwich marinated in lapsang souchong tea! I loved the flavor of the tea mixed with the eggs! Very tasty! The Chado Souchong Chicken: This was also really tasty! Bits of chicken mixed with cranberry sauce! Yum! Second Tier: Scones! There were sadly only two though... although they were about softball sized. The scones we were given was a Blueberry Scone (which was heavenly - buttery and soft, with a great texture and oh so good!) and a Cranberry Orange Scone which was also very tasty! They were served with some "Chado cream" which is basically Devonshire Cream and a slightly orange marmalade. These were both very well done! Last Tier: Desserts! There was two little shortbread cookies topped with half a strawberry and a bit of powdered sugar. The strawberry was perfectly sweet and it was all very tasty! There were also two little slices of mini bundt cake, a chocolate one and banana lemon one. Both were so moist and very tasty! (and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like bundt cakes) Yum! I love tea and I love Chado. Came here one afternoon with friends for the tea service prior to going to a show at Pantages theater. As always, Chado's tea service is great. They serve you little sandwiches as well as scones and cookies. You also get a tea pot each with your choice of tea. Chado has a homey and relaxing feel to it and perfect for an afternoon of gossiping and catching up with friends. They have both indoor and outdoor dining options ...perfect for California weather. Another great thing about Chado is that they have an extensive selection of loose tea leaves as well as flowering teas. I always tend to buy a lot of different teas because I get bored drinking the same flavor over and over again. I am glad that their minimum is just an ounce as opposed to other places which has a 2-ounce minimum. read more

I actually came here accepting the fact that I wouldn't get full from it but I was totally wrong. I was stuffed by the end of the meal! The tea service included a starter of soup or salad, a three tier rack serving, a pot of tea for each person, and dessert. Tea: They have a huge selection of teas of all sorts: white, green, black, fruit, etc. etc. Each person gets a pot of tea of their choice. I got the white champagne raspberry tea and my sister got the lychee display tea. I really liked mine it was mild but still very fragrant and apparently it's one of their most popular teas. My sister got a display tea, which means the teapot is clear and you can see some sort of flower bloom inside the pot. This was really cool because when they first serve it to you it just looks like a chunk of leaves in the pot but then the flower starts to open up and bloom. The lychee tea was super fragrant too and tasted mild and sweet. I liked both teas. Food: Both my sister and I started with the creamy tomato soup, which came with a side toast. The soup was thick and creamy but it wasn't heavy which I really liked. I wish it was a little warmer though. The three tier rack serving includes sandwiches on the top level, scones with jam and cream on the second level, and pastries on the third level. Each person gets 4 half sandwiches, which I thought was a lot. There was a cucumber sandwich, marinated egg salad sandwich, cranberry chicken sandwich, and an open faced smoked salmon toast. I think my favorites were the egg salad and smoked salmon. The egg salad was surprisingly delicious and the marinated egg was seasoned really well. I liked the smoked salmon one but it's kinda hard to go wrong with smoked salmon in my opinion. The cucumber sandwich was very typical although I wish they sliced the cucumbers thinner. Mine had thick slices. The cranberry chicken was alright, but I think the chicken was kinda dry and lacked seasoning but the cranberry dressing went well with it. The scones came out warm and delicious. My sister really liked it. I'm not very familiar with scones and how the texture is supposed to be but the scones here were yummy. The jam wasn't my favorite but paired with the cream it was good! The third level had cookies and white chocolate cups with cream in them. I thought these were just used to fill up the space. They were nothing special but the cookies were actually pretty good. The dessert was this tea float with some sort of mousse and ice cream and another cookie. It was pretty refreshing end to the meal. At this point I was already stuffed from all the food! Service: All the servers were very friendly and they constantly gave out free samples of the teas and explained them to us. You can tell they really try their best to please the customers. Location: Its pretty hard to find and we got lost at first but just find directions to the Dolby center on the second floor and you'll find it right next door. The cafe itself is pretty small and it looks nice but obviously it's not meant to be super formal and classy. It's pretty casual with a nice atmosphere. I wish they would close the door to the kitchen though so the customers can't see what goes on in the back. It would definitely make a difference. Make sure you have a reservation because there's a chance depending on the day where they can't walk-ins. The service is really good. They make sure to get everything ready before you're sat and they are very nice people. The food had some misses and hits. I loved the scones, they were hot and smelled wonderful. The desserts were delicious. The chicken and lingon berry sandwich was dry. I also felt the noise level was a bit too loud. When you do a proper high tea, usually you can hear a pin drop, but since this location is in the heart of Hollywood, you can hear everything outside. read more

I came to the Hollywood location of Chado with a Groupon deal which included afternoon tea for two, and two sets of loose leaf tea. I had already experienced the same groupon at the downtown location, so I knew what I was in for. Even though it was summer and Hollywood & Highland was packed, Chado was an oasis of calm adjacent to the Kodak theatre. We were able to get a seat on the patio partially shaded (for me... my friend LOVES the sun). Tea can be served hot or iced. I opted for iced, while my friend and her daughters did a more traditional English Breakfast tea served hot. The food was great, with a nice selection of tea sandwiches, scones with cream and preserves, and a cake. We tried the lemon, pineapple upside down and chocolate cakes, which were OK--I'd say the rest of the food was better. Our server was FANTASTIC. He was attentive when we wanted, but also gave us the space to enjoy. My friend brought her two daughters, aged 6 and 9 with us, and he was great with them. He definitely made our experience at Chado great. I was able to pick from a good assortment of teas for my tea that was included with my Groupon. I have been here twice now for afternoon tea. I like the location mostly because it's right in the heart of Hollywood and they will validate your parking for 2 hours ($3). Their sandwiches, pastries and tea are pretty good quality and it's an enjoyable experience. Their afternoon tea is $18 per person. You get 4 half sandwiches, a scone, a small cookie and a small mousse dessert cup, and a pot of tea each. The scones are soooooo good and they are served with apricot jam and Chado cream which is like a tart whipped cream. We got one plain and one blueberry scone. The sandwiches that we got were veggie friendly so we got the limerick and Mediterranean. Limerick is cream cheese, cucumbers and chive. Mediterranean had goat cheese in it and olives I believe. The desserts were a nice ending to the tea time. The tea itself is so good. They have a huge book of tea you can choose from so it is like heaven for da lovers like myself and my mom who accompanied me one of the times. I have tried Bianca's coconut chai, lychee and another chai and herbal that I can't remember. They will also come around with some samples before you order. The service was a bit too rushed for me. They kept asking how we were doing to the point where we thought they were trying to get rid of us. That was kind of annoying but otherwise it was fine.
