I Live in Hollywood CA. but came to Cleburne TX, to shoot a feature film. I found this amazing lil Restaurant walking around town. I ate breakfast here and loved everything I tried. Coffee, hash browns, a pancake, delicious sausage patties, perfectly cooked eggs, a side biscuit with gravy and we ended the meal with a to die for HUGE home made sweet roll that we read about on one of there yelp reviews!!! All this breakfast food is simple, but it tasted anything but!!! Wish we had a breakfast spot like this in LA. The price I paid for our entire meal would only pay for half a meal like that where im from. What a deal! I'd been wanting to try this local restaurant since moving to the community a few months back. Unfortunately I've been disappointed twice now and that's enough for me. My first visit, despite several waitstaff on the floor and being passed by and even making eye contact multiple times, we could not get service for even our drink order after patiently waiting over 15 minutes. The hostess/manager ,who was too busy on her phone in her plexiglass booth to notice, attempted to try and get us to not leave as we were walking out; my response was you should have noticed by now tables were being out right ignored and we weren't staying. A couple weeks later i decided to give them another try and boy I wish I hadn't. As much as I wanted to love a local place, the food (all three different dinner entrees) was tasteless and completely lacking flavor of any kind. How did I end up in Cleburn? Well, I was on a hunt for some vintage finds and home furniture during the spring Antique Alley sale (37 wonderful miles of shopping goodness - if you can find a stall where the Mennonites are making fried pies, you'll cry tears of sugary joy) and since we had been shopping literally all day we dragged into Cleburn starving and desperate for air conditioning. I did a quick search and Chaf In was one of the first things to pop up. It looked original, there were a few reviews listed and looked half way decent. Anyways, we walk in and the place is very tiny and decorated in train memorabilia including a toy train that runs along the perimeter of the restaurant near the ceiling. Super cute. Also, seating. their chairs were nice and comfy which was a welcome surprise after being on our feet all day long. The menu was average diner food: burgers, breakfast, sandwiches, with a smattering of southern dishes like chicken fried steak etc. I ordered their hamburger steak which came with a side and a side salad. unfortunately for me, all their sides consist of carb related foods such as fries, baked potato, mashed potatoes, etc. its not their fault and i half expected it but i was surprised they didn't have at least one steamed veggie option. oh well. Anyways, my salad arrived. Iceberg salad mix that looked out of bag. i was starving cause that sucker was demolished quick. i usually hate hate hate iceberg mixes but hey i was hungry. my steak arrived and i dug in. to be honest, i wasn't wowed.the food was cooked fine but didn't really have any outstanding flavors and the gravy tasted odd, not bad just something i wasn't crazy about. my mom got the same thing and agreed. my husband ordered their chili burger and enjoyed that but said he wished it had more chili on it. One thing I can say is their fries were fantastic (yes snuck a few). Service was decent, pricing was eh. i think for three adults and one child our bill came up to almost $50. So, overall I enjoyed the atmosphere but the food was very average. it will fill you up and satisfy you but wont wow. read more

I went to HEB for the first time and talked to Richard, who trained at the Great Lakes for his stint in the Navy, and he told me that the Chaf In Restaurant could not be beaten for a railroad breakfast. It was busy, but a parking place opened up and we went right in and ordered a four egg omelet to split and it was good, along with a biscuit and bacon gravy. I really liked the little train that circles the restaurant near the tin ceiling. Met another regular there who was nice enough to give me directions to Waco. Great stop. I've never really had a bad meal here and I've been coming since the late 80's as a little kid. Personally, I always order the BBQ sandwich or the Mexican dinner for lunch/dinner or if you're in the mood for breakfast, the pancakes and waffles are both the best in town. They have one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. Plus, you can get discounts if you sign up for their text alerts. We're there at least once a week, and we're always stuffed and happy. Last week they had the best Brussel sprouts I've ever eaten out of my own kitchen. I'm a vegetarian, but my parents aren't. First time eating at the Chaf-in in Cleburne - was very surprised to get meat plus 3 sides and then the waitress brought a serving of bread pudding along with a cookie. The food was good along with the service and at a very reasonable price. They are opened 7 days a week and closed only on Christmas. I drove past this place many times, but never stopped until today and now I know that I missed a lot of good lunches. read more

Who doesn't love them some Chaf Inn? Most people won't even see this review... the locals know it and I don't think anyone Yelps during their drive through Cleburne, Texas. Or do they? New direction! If you're Yelping your way through Cleburne, Texas, this review is written for you! Cleburne is an old railroad town turned Ft. Worth suburb where there are slim pickin's for decent grub. Sure, you've probably seen BOTH Chicken Expresses and Braums but good ol fashioned home cooking is another story. Chaf Inn is located just outside of the square and has been a staple in Cleburne for decades. Ben still runs the register and the train still runs around the top of the room as you eat a delicious, home cooked meal. Their breakfast is heavenly and usually my favorite. And don't let the Mexican dishes fool you - they're amazing too! So, go ahead, pull over, and soak in a little of that Johnson County love. read more

Restaurant looks very promising going in for that good country style breakfast. And they will say the highlight of the meal was the biscuits and sausage gravy....that earned the second star. Everything else was pretty mediocre including the service. I ordered pumpkin pancakes and I had to issues with them, one there was no pumpkin flavor and 2 nothing in the description indicated there were nuts in them, Not only is this dangerous for someone with a nut allergy, not everyone likes nuts. Personally, I had dental surgery a couple days prior and wanted softer food. My companion had smoked pork chop eggs, toast and hash browns. He was never asked what kind of toast he wanted Not a huge deal but it still would've been nice to of had an option. Hashbrowns were on mushy side and not crispy and the smoked pork chop was small thin and a little overcooked. We were almost ready to leave when our order was finally taken? And this was after asking a server if we could order. Had to ask to order drinks even once our order was taken. For comparison the table next to us came in just after us and had their food delivered while we were ordering. Come to find out upon paying and mentioning this but our server was in the back in the bathroom and maybe just say the server had a personal issue because now all I can think is if our server was ill and had to spend that much time in the bathroom she shouldn't have been spreading germs over my food. And if management was aware of this they should've had someone covering her tables. read more

Great old time cafe. Good entrees with good side vegetables and rolls or cornbread. They have a daily special which is good. Breakfast is available anytime. The little bit of Mexican food on the menu is not bad. They do offer vegetable plates for those days when you may be in the mood for just an old fashioned plate of vegetables like your mama made. this WAS the best breakfast joint in cleburne but because of recent change in ownership i would no longer recommend it to anyone. the last time i was there it took them 3 attempts to get my order right and when the right food was finally sent out it was half raw. the waitress was rude and acted annoyed when i told her i hadnt got what i had ordered. my father who was also with me ordered pinto beans and was sent a bowl of pork and beans instead. read more
