Hi Everyone! Today I had breakfast at Chaf In Restaurant I. Downtown Cleburne. Not sure what the name means, but, oh well!! I won't lie, I probably would not have eaten here if it weren't for the yelp reviews and it's a local mom and pop that advertises it has been around for about 100 years.... I'm glad I chose to stop by and give it a try. I had Chicken Fried Steak for breakfast. It came with two eggs, hash browns and two biscuits with gravy. The chicken fried steak was very good. The eggs nicely cooked, hash browns were great (sadly wish I got a little more). The biscuits were fantastic. Light and very tasty!! Gray was so so, which was disappointing. Our server was extremely friendly, gave great recommendations and provided excellent service. The ambience was quaint and a bit weathered. I doubt it was in the same building 100 years ago. But definitely 50! Finally, the prices were very fair for what you got. Yes, there were small things that weren't perfect about my meal. All things considered, including the great prices, I will definitely give my visit five starts. If in downtown Cleburne, it's definitely worth stopping at Chaf In Restaurant for breakfast! Jim

Recommended to my by the employee at the nearby bookstore, I was very pleased by the decor, friendliness of the staff and patrons, and delighted by the delicious taste and value of the meal I ordered. The ambiance was very retro and provided an interesting vibe. I ordered the chicken fried steak, french fries, and mashed potatoes. Yes, double starch...oh well! Everything tasted as if they were prepared and cooked in-house, especially the french fries. Ever had fresh cut from the kitchen french fries? These were the real deal. Wow! The young lady waiting on me was personable and seemed not to be bothered by my eccentricities. Thank you! Once finished and on my way, I decided to visit here again if I'm ever in the area in the forseeable future.

New York? Steak and eggs with home fries and rye toast.

Food was better than expected. I had steak and eggs. It's supposed to be a New York, but I can't verify that, but it was good and cooked to order. Home fries were greasy. Rye Toast was thick and good. My husband had their Monday chicken pot pie and he enjoyed it. The place is filthy and out front smelled like garbage. We ate here anyway, and weren't disappointed. It's not high quality, but good. Service was very good. I'm giving it an overall 3 star but the chicken pot pie was 4 star.

Hey, weary US-67 traveler: are you tired of crummy gas station food and craving some real cuisine? Do your eyes need a rest from looking out for the seemingly endless speed traps? Well, look no further than Chaf-In. This place is pretty popular, so parking is a bit hard to get once you get there, but once you're inside, you'll be greeted with welcoming, antique-feeling décor, my favorite of which is the model Union Pacific train running along the rafters. You can just take a seat wherever, and someone will be with you rather quickly, usually within a minute or two, to take your drink order and give you their menu. They have a rather large menu with all the diner classics, plus some novelties. Breakfast is served all day, but so is lunch and dinner for that matter. About the prices: I got a 6oz steak, sunny side up eggs, hash browns, and biscuits with gravy for $9.99. Despite that price, there was absolutely no compromise on quality. In fact, it's easily some of the best diner food I've had. It's easy to see why this place has been around for over 100 years. Perhaps it would be wise to drop in to this place before it gets on Guy Fieri's show and they raise the prices. All-in-all: it's a great place with excellent food and a very welcoming environment. It's more than worth the short diversion off of the highway.

This was our first time at the Chaf-In and we loved it! I believe we met the owner today, she was at the checkout stand. She was so sweet, and we got to chat with her for a few minutes. The restaurant had so much personality, the decor gave it an antique vibe. Our son really loved the train that runs on tracks at the top of the room. The food was great. It was definitely comfort food. We can't wait to try their lunch and dinner menu when we come back.

Great little diner for breakfast. The food comes out fast and hot. Above average food at a very low price! I love their potato burritos.

Best gay bar in town! I had a really good hot dog here once and some pretty okay pancakes another time. I've only been here like twice.

The dining room is separated from the bar area. It has 10' side walls and open, high ceilings. There's a couple of TVs in the dining room and a couple of ceiling fans. There's HVAC vents hanging down and there are 2 mini splits. It's nearly 100F outside and it's comfortable enough (not real cool) in here. Our server, Penelope, was quite pleasant. She was able to answer our food questions and give us recommendations. They use handheld order taking devices. I like that. I had a Shiner Boch to start and my wife had a Margarita rocks - no salt. Both drinks came out lightning fast. My beer was nice and cold and her margarita was real tasty and not too sweet. For dinner, I ordered the smaller order of Fried Catfish with a side. I had Tots. The fish filet was large, thin-battered, crispy and hot. The tots side was huge, crispy, hot and tasty. A great fried food meal. Took some of it home too. My wife ordered the Street Tacos. She was able to eat 2 of the 3 and she enjoyed them. Their homemade salsa was good and it had some heat to it. We brought her 3rd taco home. Pricing was fair. Service was great and fast. Good tasted great. We'll be back to the Break Room.

She was very direct and told us upfront it would be about a 20-minute wait, which I appreciated. While we waited, I sat in the car listening to the thunder and rain. There was something peaceful and simple about that moment and I loved it. My husband stayed inside to wait for the food. During that time, a couple came back in upset about the wait and asked for their money back. The owner had just returned from a family event and was clearly trying her best to make things right. Even when the couple was rude, she handled it with grace and empathy, saying, "I'm sad that we failed you." It was such a human moment. One that showed how much she cares about her customers and her business. And our hamburgers were absolutely delicious! Definitely worth the wait. I enjoyed everything about this experience. Think old-fashioned burger stand from many yesteryears. I doubt there has been many updates on the 93 years since this place began. The place had a vintage diner kind of ambiance to it. These folks have been slapping burgers in front of folks since 1932. So if my math adds up, that is 93 years of burgers and fries from these guys. Knowing that fact, I had to give them a try! After walking in, I approached the counter. The person who took our order was friendly and super efficient. She was helpful in explaining how things worked to these two first-timers. Walking away from the counterfeit , I in in had gone full steam ahead having ordered a Chili-Cheeseburger and Fries. I was taken aback when the counter person informed us it might be about 20 minutes but I went with it as they were busy. This meal was so good, I barely remembered to take a picture before devouring half of it. (The photo evidence will either prove my lack of social media skills or just how ridiculously good this food was. Let's go with the second one.) Now, let's talk about this feast: Chicken Fried Steak--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and smothered in a rich, creamy gravy that could make even the most devoted vegetarian rethink their life choices. Creamy Mashed Potatoes--also generously blanketed in that same glorious gravy, because if you're going to do comfort food, do it right. Green Beans--but not just any green beans, the homemade kind with little bits of bacon that make you feel like someone's grandma made them with love. Dinner Rolls--fluffy, buttery, and downright dangerous. You tell yourself you'll eat one, but then another one magically disappears, and you're left wondering what happened. To top it off, the service was A++. Our waitress was on it--attentive but not hovering, friendly but not fake, and she made sure we had everything we needed while my cousin and I caught up on years of life. And the timing? Perfect. The place was just busy enough to have a good vibe but not so packed that we had to shout across the table. Final verdict: Highly recommend. If you find yourself in Cleburne, go. If you don't find yourself in Cleburne, maybe you should. And yes, I'll be back--probably still forgetting to take a picture until it's too late.
