You order inside or on the app (the app has great discount opportunities so I encourage tea lovers to download it), and wait for your drink to be ready. Outdoor seating is available but minimally covered. It's also always nice to walk around with your tea/tea latte. Because the weather's been hot and humid, I opted for the Jasmine Green Citrus tea. So refreshing. I also love the Amber Oolong tea latte- I'd always order two at a time when I'd get Chagee in OC. Got 3 drinks: Peach oolong matcha latte: I cannot taste the peach at all. But I can taste a mixture of the light oolong and strong matcha. I probably would not get this drink again as it just tastes ok. Guava citrus refresher: it was refreshing, and you can taste the guava for sure. And it was not too overly sour or sweet which I love. Ceylon black tea latte: nice and refreshing as well. The tea has a great taste to it. It wasn't the usual Ceylon taste that I was expecting that most boba shops had the same Ceylon taste. My friend introduced me to chagee when I first opened at the UTC and I have been in love with it! I have been getting the peach oolong tea latte, which has an insane amount of caffeine, but I totally need it to get through my school! The refresher has less caffeine but they have been heaven sent for these hot days. The workers there are so nice and accommodating. I do feel bad because it has been very hot and there is no indoor area so there's no AC. But they have continue to pump the drinks out like nothing hahaha I would so give this location, a five out of five stars but the only thing I don't like is that there is no areas where I can sit inside with an AC or plugs to do schoolwork. If you're not a person who likes toppings, I highly recommend Chagee. We went here because we like drinks with strong tea flavor, and that's exactly what Chagee gave us. The sweetness is there, but not too strong so you're able to enjoy it without feeling like you'll go into a sugar coma after. It's a small booth at the end of the walkway. They do have some tables for you to sit and enjoy your drinks while watching the weather. The team also worked really fast. I don't think we waited longer than maybe 10 minutes for our drinks. My friend got the peach oolong tea latte, which was very milky and gives you that sugar boost you needed. I went with the peach oolong citrus teafresher, which was super refreshing for a hot day. I was recommended by my friend to Jasmine Green Tea Citrus Refresher. I got a large with less sweet . It was really refreshing and the lemon citrus flavor stood out. However, I am not the biggest fan of sour and it was a bit too sour for me. I definitely want to come back and try the other items on their menu. I ordered through the app so it was available at pick up. When I went to pick up, the line was not long. I like how they give you a cute bag when you pick up your drink. This place is located inside UTC Mall. There is an outdoor seating area to sit and chat. What I like most is their app. It gives you estimated wait time. I learned about this place chatting with Emmett at a Yelp IRL event recently so figured I would make my way over to see what all the fuss is about regarding this new tea place. I grew up drinking various teas as my ancestral roots are from both Taiwan and China, which are both places where tea is good and ubiquitous. This modern tea house comes from Yunnan China and I read up a little about the history of this place. The place is named after a famous Chinese opera, Ba Wan Cha Ji, which I am not entirely sure how that is tied back to teas, but okay. Seems this company has also had some problems in Malaysia and Vietnam (Some Vietnamese boycotting the place after an incident around the company using the nine dash line in their app - which may not respect certain countries based on geographic maps). Wow, that's not a great, is it? But, as for the name of the place, I now understand their opera logo. I waited in line for about 25min as it seems the hype hasnt died down as this is the first location in SD. Line was moving and lady taking my order was nice, fast and efficient. I ordered the peach oolong citrus tea fresher. I am normally a milk tea drinker but came from a hot yoga class and its summer, so wanted something to cool me off. This is an iced drink but you cannot adjust the ice level but you can adjust the sugar level and I got it reduced. I waited another 5 min or so and then my drink came out. Tje have an efficient numbering system. You can definitely taste the peach accents and oolong flavor, however, sadly, this drink was too sweet for me. I dont have much sugar in my diet, so that drink definitely jolted me awake. It was a good drink but it wasnt mindblowing at all. It tasted like a well made Arnold Palmer Asian style. I dont know if I would stand in line again to get another drink as it wasnt like out of this world good for me. But, I would be happy to come back another day. But with prices on the higher side, $8 for a drink, I think the next time I return will be when its cooler and I can try out one of their warm drinks. Nice addition to UTC Westfield, fun spot! The First time I tried this Chagee Tea was in Ontario . They were pretty good, so I'm glad they opened one here in La Jolla San Diego. It was a very hot day when I came and I wanted something refreshing. Guava is my favorite fruit, so it was an easy pick for me which one to choose when I saw a guava refresher, I ordered the Iced Guava Jasmin Citrus . Took a lot of time for my drink to be made , i was expecting the staff to be quick prepping the drinks like the one I experienced in their Ontario soft opening. I got perfect seating with an umbrella that gave good shade on this summer heat; there are a couple of seats to sit on but less shade. I see most of the ones that ordered are trying to squeeze into whatever small shade they can coz that sun is high up and so hot. When my drinks came, I chugged it quickly coz I was really thirsty but I didn't taste any Guava on my Guava Jasmin drink , all I tasted was the Citrus part of the Tea refresher . My favorites are their signature boya jasmine and their matcha series line. I'm so glad they implemented an online ordering system so I can order as I make my way over there. Chagee has opened up near Van Leeuwen ice cream and Katsuya Ko! Heads up that they only have outdoor seating, and unfortunately it's in the sun. Their app is amazing! You should download it before you get to the store. It tells you the amount of calories, caffeine (usually a pretty high amount), protein, and sodium in each drink. Also, you can order in the app and skip the line. It even notifies you about when to go pick it up. I felt like the pick up process should be improved because when I went up to the counter, the worker told me to just find my own bag among 12 other bags. This could lead to people picking up the wrong order. On the plus side, the Chagee bag that came with the drinks is beautiful, and had a drink holder inside. On to the drinks, I ordered each of them as a large size, less ice, regular sugar, and oat milk. -Ceylon Black Tea Latte: This was my favorite because it's reminiscent of the milk tea I had when I visited Taiwan. -Peach Oolong Tea Latte: The peach flavor is quite strong that it slightly overpowers the oolong. Some drinks are hit or miss. I would say the peach oolong tea late is one of their best drinks if you enjoy a more fruity/floral flavor. If you want a more traditional milk tea flavor then I would recommend the Ceylon black tea latte. There are specific drinks where you cannot adjust ice and sugar levels so that is something to keep in mind when choosing if you care about ice levels. Also to keep in mind, this is not a boba place so if you're expecting boba, you will be sad . Other than that, the tea flavor itself is pretty strong and they have a 10% member discount every Wednesday! The service is always a 10/10, they're always super nice and accommodating. And they're patient with you when you have questions about the drinks and make suggestions if you're looking for something in particular. Operating as a concession stand on the upper level in the northwest section of the Westfield UTC Mall, Chagee Modern Teahouse had its grand opening this weekend. I was able to visit the first SD location of this popular Chinese milk tea chain over the recent holiday during its soft opening period. I entered from the back after climbing a set of stairs on the corner of La Jolla Village Dr and Genesee Ave. There was already a significant line by the time I arrived around noon. Compared to the other kiosks and stands at this mall, Chagee had one of the largest and nicest layouts. Out front and along the two sides were numerous tables for customers to sit and enjoy their order. There was a large boba tea cup arranged as a statue in the front right. A few stands were also set up to display tea kits and other brand merchandise. It took nearly 30 minutes before I reached the service counter. A menu sheet was available at the counter along with a menu screen that was hanging on the wall behind. The offerings were quite limited during the soft opening. Two Extracted Teas and five Brewed Teas were the choices. Customizations included the milk type, sugar level, and ice level. Boba pearls and other toppings were unavailable. The cashier gave me a quick rundown of a few items before I decided on two selections which were a Peach Oolong Citrus Teafresher and a Boya Jasmine Green Tea Latte. The first drink was labeled as "fruity, juicy, lively" and then described as "fruity white peach and floral oolong tea flavors paired with fresh lemon and lime, blending fruity sweetness with a crisp citrus kick." I asked for less ice and regular sugar for this teafresher. I could easily detect a strong tea flavor which was a hallmark of Chagee. The second drink was labeled as "floral, creamy, smooth." This was the global bestseller, "loved for its delicate floral aroma and smooth, silky finish. The fragrant jasmine tea perfectly blends with milk, creating a refreshing yet indulgent balance of light florals and rich, velvety texture." The blend was made using whole milk as my choice along with less ice and regular sugar similar to the teafresher. Smooth would be the most accurate adjective for this latte as I don't think I have tasted one like this before. Orders were prepared and dispensed with a fancy gift bag that was another notable feature of Chagee. The only aspect that stopped me from rounding up my rating was the simplified soft opening menu. When I return at another time to try different items with the array of toppings, then it's likely Chagee Modern Teahouse will get a top rating from me. read more

I was so incredibly pumped when they announced that we were finally getting a Chagee at Westfield UTC! I have been enjoying teahouses a lot more lately, so this was pretty huge and exciting for me. What I tried: Boya Jasmine Green Tea Latte Amber Oolong Tea Latte Roasted Black Tea Latte I'm a huge roasted oolong tea girlie, and the Roasted Black Tea Latte just hit the spot for me. I think I preferred the intensity and flavor of that one over the Amber Oolong Tea Latte. Although don't get me wrong, all of the drinks I got were really delicious and refreshing. The Boya Jasmine Green Tea Latte had this very pleasant, fragrant and floral flavor that I could just drink all day. I loved that the sweetness was just right in every single one of the drinks. The flavor of the tea was bold and prominent in the most perfect way that it just blended so well with the creaminess of the milk. I did an online order so I didn't really have much interaction with the staff, but their service was very quick. My order came in a super cute reusable insulated bag too! I was interested in trying out Chagee after hearing the hype around the brand and how so many people were excited to have one in San Diego. I waited a little bit after they opened in UTC so that I wouldn't have to face a huge line to wait. Chagee is located next to Katsuya Ko, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and Ramen Nagi. The day we went, our friend lined up first since he got there before we did and it was a decent sized line. By the time we got to the front and ordered (about 10 minutes later), the line died down. It really depends on your luck and whether you'll wait 10 minutes or 30 minutes. They had a limited menu that we could choose from, so I couldn't get the drink I wanted. I ended up ordering the Boya Jasmine Green Tea with Oat Milk and my husband got the Peach Oolong Tea Refresher. The milk tea really just tasted like tea and cream - it wasn't sweet enough to my taste, and thus also tasted bland. I know others might enjoy the cream tea taste, but I prefer my milk teas to have more flavor behind it. The Peach Oolong Tea Refresher was good though, and had a good amount of sweetness. It was nice for a hot summer day as well. I might come back to try other drinks once their menu expands, but my first impression was a slight let down. read more

September 6th, Sunday at 1:00pm the server at the register messed up our order and lost our birthday tea flight perk for being a Steep Society member. When she tried to checkout us out again, but the birthday flight perk was no longer showing up. She called her manager Kenneth Gomez to deal with the situation. He's solution was to have us email the company about the situation. The better solution was to honor our birthday flight perk because the server at the time saw our perk and told the manager that she saw the perk. He could've of honor it instead of telling us to email the company. Because we were standing in line for a good 30mins in the sun and hoping to drink a nice refreshing citrus tea. Instead we went to Hey Tea instead. Very Disappointed! In this location. One star for the Manager Kenneth Gomez Five stars for the drinks I had during their grand opening. I love the blind box gacha and most of the plushies turned out to be so cute. The gift bag for the first 50 guests also contained many goodies. My favorite drink is the peach oolong tea latte or the peach oolong citrus teafresher I love how much seating they have for guests to sit and the big cup for photo op. While there is a lot of parking here at the mall, payment is required after the first hour. I love that they listen to customers and show that they care about their customers. During their Sherman Oaks grand opening, we had to order 2 specific drinks but now we can order any 2 drinks. It was good that they had umbrellas and water for the guests in line so we weren't just dying in the sun. My only complaint is that as steep tea society members, they advertised "VIP Teahouse Openings" but I've only seen them invite influencers and nothing show up in email or in the mail. Really late post, but came here before their grand opening so they didn't have much on their menu. I know they're quite popular in China and I love a good tea spot with good milk teas. I got the roasted black tea latte and my friend got the boya jasmine since it was recommended to her. I prefer the roasted taste of teas, so mine was smooth, had a slight chocolatey taste and slight earthiness yet very rich and delicious aroma compared to my friend's boya drink, which I did have a taste. The boya has a strong floral sweet flavor which was refreshing. But I'd still prefer the roasted black tea though. Seating is outdoors, so can't imagine what it would be like if we were to have some rainy days or moments in SD. Also, I didn't recall seeing any staff coming out to wipe down tables or seating. However that didn't bother me much. I also like how their decors are pet friendly too. Another thing, this is one of those tea houses that have really nice merchandises. I did ask for the single reusable insulated bag. They have different sizes depending on your order or maybe you can ask for the other sizes. It is located at the far end corner of Genesee Ave and La Jolla Drive. If you are coming from the street side, then you will have to walk up the stairs and it will be right there. If you are coming from the UTC mall, then you should walk towards Ramen Nagi. It is at the corner. Although there was a line (roughly 10 people ahead of us), our drinks were done in 20minutes. (They had 8 people working) We got the Roasted Black Pure Tea, Amber Oolong Tea Latte with Oat milk and Roasted Black Tea Latte with oat milk. The roasted black pure tea was refreshing but not too strong which also meant it did not have the bitter flavor. The lattes did taste like it came with a lot of milk and not a lot of tea but there was a distinctive difference between the oolong and black tea. I feel the teas could be a bit stronger because even just by looking at the roasted black pure tea, it was pretty light. I heard about this place through a couple of my friends. The first time I had, it was last week which my friend brought to me while I was babysitting. Today after the Apple Store... I went to order myself and my mom some tea! I ordered the Peach Oolong Tea refresher. It was fabulous and just what I was craving. You can customize the sweetness level, but I ordered the regular because as the ice melts it made it less sweet, which was nice. I also bought one of their Chagee tumblrs for me to use at work. They have a cute little storefront with outdoor seating only. The workers there do need to wipe down the chairs and tables, though... They were sticky and filthy. Ick! I was very excited to try Chagee Modern Teahouse having first tried this teahouse in Singapore. One of the most striking things about Chagee is their beautiful bag and cup designs. Chagee has a unique modern outdoor design at the end of the newest corridor of UTC with Katsuya and Ramen Nagi. There was a 15 percent discount for mobile orders so we ordered the following drinks: peach oolong tea latte, black tea latte, jasmine green tea latte. The drinks which were ready in around 30 minutes. The mobile pick up process was a mess. There were so many bags littered on the counter and when we came to pick up our drinks we were told to find them ourselves somewhere on the counter. The black tea latte was a banger, really strong good tea flavor with a beautiful aroma. Second favorite was the peach oolong tea latte, I could taste the peach flavor which was a big win since I often find the peach flavor is too subtle in many peach oolong tea lattes. I've had CHAGEE in Singapore and spent weeks drinking my way through Taiwan's tea shops, so I came in with high standards and the tea itself delivers. Insider tip and Easy to find: next to True Food Kitchen, behind Din Tai Fung, on the street side of UTC. I got three drinks: the Boya Jasmine Green Tea Latte with oat milk (less sugar), plus the Peach Oolong and Jasmine Green Citrus Teafreshers, both with original customizations. Every single one let the actual tea shine through; real tannins, and real jasmine undertones. Instead of the sugar-bomb approach (diabetes risk) most US boba shops take. This is the closest I've found to what you get in Asia. The one gap? Service. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and pickup was clunky -- I kept getting asked for my name while they hunted for my order. In Singapore or Taipei this would've been seamless, but maybe I'm spoiled. Hopefully it smooths out as the team finds its rhythm. Beautiful space, excellent tea. I'll be back. read more

Chagee is a welcome addition to the San Diego milk tea scene. They seem to focus on really high grade tea making their products among the best of the best. The Jasmine milk tea is perfectly floral and has a smooth mouth feel. The roasted tea latte is also good but a little more nutty. The only downside is no boba, only milk tea. The service is friendly and relatively prompt, and although there is only a few seats outside most people are taking to go and walking the mall. There's an app to download that has a 15% off welcome bonus, this location isn't yet on the app to order ahead but presumably that is in the foreseeable future and would make this even more convenient. Rivals some of the best like chicha in terms of tea quality, omomo would probably be its closest competition in Sd. Will certainly be returning! read more

Stopped by the newly opened Chagee at UTC and left the place pretty impressed by both the tea and the people. I ordered the Black Tea Latte at half sweetness, and it was incredibly smooth: rich, balanced, easy to drink without being overly sweet. Exactly what I was hoping for. What really stood out though was the staff. I had a little mishap with my dog during my visit, and the team was unbelievably kind. They immediately offered plenty of napkins to help with cleanup and even offered pup cups which was such a thoughtful touch. Very dog friendly! Also, whoever designed this space deserves a raise. The layout feels intentional and modern, with seating arranged to be comfortable and functional. I especially loved the little dog-shaped knobs near the tables for securing your pup's leash, and the magnetic furniture details were a fun surprise. Great tea, beautiful space, and genuinely caring staff. A wonderful addition to UTC, and I'll definitely be back for their expanded menu! read more

Tried both the Jasmine tea latte and black tea latte. They are solid, good quality teas with really clean flavor. I would come here again because the drinks are simple but delicious, and not sugary. Wait times can be long (20 mins in line to order) because this place is popular, but the workers are really friendly. read more
