Parakeet Cafe was one of our favorite stops in Little Italy, San Diego! From the moment we walked in, we loved the beautiful aesthetic, stylish decor, and relaxed atmosphere. Everything felt bright, welcoming, and picture-perfect. Our lattes were delicious and served in the cutest pink coffee mugs. Such a fun touch that made the experience even more memorable. I ordered The Protein Waffle with an impressive 45g of protein, and it did not disappoint! The waffle was delicious, satisfying, and topped with an excellent vanilla whip that was fresh, light, and absolutely perfect. We visited during the Little Italy Farmers Market, which made it even more enjoyable. It was the perfect place to sit back, relax, sip our coffee, and people-watch. A special shoutout to the staff! They checked in with us several times throughout our visit and were extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Their recommendations and attention to detail made us feel genuinely welcomed. Great food. Great coffee. Beautiful atmosphere. Outstanding service. Highly recommended if you're visiting Little Italy and looking for a place to enjoy a great meal, relax, and soak in the neighborhood vibes.

Cute photographic spot, very trendy. Stopped by after the weekend farmers market. You order at the counter, get a number, seat yourself and they bring your order to you. The food was freshly cooked, delivered hot and beautifully presented. I would add more seasoning as the flavors were a little bland but fresh. The service was fast and friendly.

Busy cafe in the heart of little Italy, we stopped in during one of the weekend farmers markets and it was a great catch up spot. Despite the popularity it wasn't too loud in the space. Service was super fast and friendly and they bring your order to your table for you. The decor is tropical and chic, loved the bird details around the store that subtly blend in with the green touches. Excellent choice for a coffee and pastry. The croissants are best ordered toasted with a side of butter. Buttery. Flaky. Warm. Well done to the team here. We'll be back!

Didn't realize this was a chain at first, but the food and service still felt high quality and well executed. Located right in Little Italy, this spot was busy nonstop, but the staff kept things moving quickly and everyone seemed well taken care of. I ended up hanging out for a couple of hours before my flight home since it's conveniently close to the airport, and it was actually a great place to work from my laptop. Never felt rushed or like I was overstaying my welcome, which I always appreciate at a busy café. The food was genuinely delicious. I'll almost always order shakshuka if it's on a menu , and theirs did not disappoint. The tomato, spices, and cream were really well balanced. Also highly recommend the maple latte with oat milk.. slightly sweet & cozy.

Oh I didn't know this was a chain until just now. This place was not good and not worth it. Drinks were eh, pretty weak. Food was super plain and I think you're really just going to eat here if you want to people watch or get nice pics for social or something. Find something better especially in the middle of little Italy

What an amazing place! Everything was excellent. Fresh ingredients and fresh vegetables are the highlights of every dish. You just know eating at this place is great for your health!

I love this place! I've been coming here for months to work and have breakfast and/or lunch. It has been wonderful every time. If they happen to mess up an order, they very kindly and quickly fix it, but they rarely mess up. The service is always quick and done well. I love the drinks. I've had several of them and haven't been dissatisfied once. Today I ordered the shakshouka and it was delicious. I had it with one of their green juices which was also really good. I have no idea how authentic the shakshouka it is, but as a standalone dish, I recommend it with the caveat that I'm neither Southwest Asian nor North African. The ambiance is one of my very favorite things here. I'm Covid cautious so look for places with patios and this place is the best of inside and out, so I can come when it's sprinkling or too hot out. They have a fully opened wall and always have had it open every time I've come. On Wednesdays the Little Italy Farmer's Market is right outside and I love to people watch while I work. Just a fabulous, place with good food, service, and ambiance. It is a little pricey, but it's worth it for me because I come to work and tend to stay all day without anyone rushing or bothering me. So I get things throughout the time I'm here. Their space has good accessibility for mobility items users which I also really appreciate. I don't have any negative feedback at all.

One of my go-to spots--and it never disappoints. The location is great, the staff is always friendly, and the food consistently hits the mark. I recently tried the eggs Benedict on toast: two perfectly poached eggs on house-made sourdough, topped with pesto, fresh avocado, and sun-dried tomatoes. The flavors came together really well, and the sourdough --crispy on the edges with a soft, chewy center. Definitely recommend!

This place is very cute!!! It is large and very accommodating. One of my friends suggested it and we gave it a try. The matcha was good and I also got a chocolate croissant which was also good! Will definitely be coming back! Would be cool if they had actual parakeets around or at least stuffed ones or animatronic ones like the tiki room at Disneyland.

First off, their location is right on the corner of where the Little Italy market is. It's perfect if you want to be in the middle of it all, as everything is just a few steps away from you. I would come here just for the ambiance alone - from the neon lettering, to the parakeet graphics on their walls, mosaic bistro tables, and pink velvet seats, the aesthetics do their "parakeet" name justice, so 11/10 on the vibe. There are so many things to choose from their diverse healthy food options, from burritos, salads, bowls, waffles, and shakshukas, it's easy to find something here for everyone during breakfast. I got one of their specials, which was an "All i Avo Wanted," an over easy egg over a blue corn waffle. It's unique to them, so it's worth a try. I thought it was yummy, but a bit dry for me, even with the salsa, so I'd give it a 7/10. I was also tempted to get their coffee pie from their pastry box, and that was the perfect dessert 10/10. And of course I had to try out one of their infamous drinks, so I went with their cold cream matcha. It's a perfect blend of flavors and not too sweet 11/10. Overall, this place is one to to visit.

Oh gosh, this was by far my favorite breakfast in San Diego. Situated directly across the street from our hotel, Parakeet is chic and clean with such a welcoming vibe. We walked in not long after their 7 am opening and it was popping already -- for good reason. I tried to order healthy and went with a mushroom coffee, mango smoothie, and green eggs breakfast platter. Yes, the eggs were truly green. Every bite was delicious. I'm sad I filled up so quickly, but my boyfriend was super hyped to clear my plate in addition to his own! If I had more time in San Diego, we would've made a second trip for sure.

    The Protein Waffle (gf)

Food was amazing! Everything we ordered was delish. We loved the creative organic, vegetable-forward dishes. Tons of vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options. It's fast casual style so you order at the counter before sitting down. Food came quickly! Great vibes in here. Such fun decor. And they're not shy with the avocado either! Loved it. Will come back.

When I arrived, there was a very long line, but because my order had already been placed, I went to the designated pickup area. While waiting, I watched the employee behind the counter speak politely and normally to other customers. When it was my turn, I turned my phone around and politely said, "Hi, I'm here to pick up for" Before I could even finish my sentence, the employee looked at my phone, rolled his eyes, turned away from me, and went to retrieve the order. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no basic courtesy. He handed me the order while staring at me, rolled his eyes again, and immediately returned to the register. The interaction was so noticeably hostile that I looked back at him and asked, "What's your problem?" He immediately turned away and began helping someone else. I then asked another employee whether there was a manager available and explained what had just happened. Her response was essentially that there was "a lot going on" and that they were busy. Being busy does not excuse treating a customer disrespectfully especially when I had just watched other customers receive normal, courteous service. What made this experience particularly concerning was what happened next. While I was still making sure my large order was complete, another customer approached the pickup area. The same employee who would not even allow me to finish my sentence immediately greeted this man with, "Hello, how can I help you?" and proceeded to speak to him politely and professionally. That was the exact basic courtesy I had been denied only moments earlier. As a Black woman, I cannot ignore that difference in treatment. I watched this employee demonstrate that he was perfectly capable of greeting customers, communicating professionally, and being courteous. He simply chose not to extend that same treatment to me. Based on what I personally witnessed, the disparity felt prejudicial and discriminatory. I then walked to the neighboring sister establishment to ask how I could contact management because I had not been provided helpful management information inside the coffee shop. Ironically, the employee I spoke with there was also Latino, and he treated me with complete respect. He listened, offered to get a manager, asked whether I was okay, and apologized that I had experienced something uncomfortable. That interaction is important because my complaint is not about anyone's ethnicity it is about the specific behavior of the employees who dealt with me at the coffee shop. What was also strange was that the coffee shop employees who had just explained that everything was so hectic suddenly had plenty of time to stand at the counter and watch me while I spoke with the neighboring business. They continued watching me until I got into my car. There had been an enormous line of customers, yet somehow the "too busy" explanation disappeared when it came time to watch what I was doing after I asked about management. That made an already uncomfortable situation feel even more hostile. The Smoking Gun needs to seriously evaluate who it places in customer-facing positions. Customers should not have to wonder whether their race affected the basic level of dignity and courtesy they received. If an employee is overwhelmed or having a bad day, take a break, ask for help, or work away from the front counter. What you do not do is selectively discard basic manners with one customer and then immediately demonstrate those same manners to the next. I came in to pick up coffee for a wedding. I was polite. I was there to collect an order and leave. There was absolutely no reason for me to be treated with hostility. I will be filing a formal complaint with management regarding this incident. I hope management takes it seriously, reviews what occurred, and provides its staff with appropriate customer-service and anti-discrimination training. No paying customer should be treated as though basic respect is optional. And yes, they can run the cameras back it'll be in there ! Then to ice the cake, they literally got the order wrong and didn't give me all the items for the party that I was taking it to! Could look me up and down but not look the orders up and down !

First, street parking only but don't let that deter you from coming coz every inch or foot that you spend walking to this place is all worth it. Secondly, love the ambiance. Reminds me a lot of those ikazaya pubs in Japan but a little more chic and modern. They have bar seating of about 10 and 6-8 tables inside. But they also have outdoor seating. So I came at exactly 11 am and I was the second guest and they sat me at the bar. By 11:30 am, the entire resto was full, not granting it was a Saturday morning but people prolly got smart to come here early before the lunch crowd gets bigger. So for the food, I had to order their Hayachi Omurice and Chef Soichi's Chicken karage and both were BOMB! 11/10 each! Love the flavor of the rice and nice touch of thin slices of meat and the egg was perfectly made. I just wished there were heapings of those egg. The sauce was slightly tangy but love the flavor. The other star of my meal was the karage. Prolly the Top 2 karage I've had. I liked how they sliced in lengthwise and there not too much coating. And it wasn't oily and very juicy inside. Well seasoned and it came with lemon wedges and kewpie mayo. All I did was sprinkle some Nanami Togarashi for an added umami flavor. Overall, this should be on your top 10 restos in San Diego. Service was excellent, the servers were all friendly and always smiles!! Kudos to you guys!! I'll be back for sure!!
