I went and the food was not all that good. They only give you 1 little slice of lime with your menudo, They charge $2.50 extra for a side of lime ... and $2.50 extra for a refill of chips. What restaurant does that? Also the bread that came with the menudo was not good. The horchata taste like 7-11 horchata. The sopapillas taste like blown up crackers. If you want fast food, come here. The beer was nice and cold. The server was nice but this combo food was awful. How can you claim to be a Mexican restaurant and serve a "soft" Chile relleno by making it with a scrambled egg then stuffing a canned green chile with cheap pre-shredded cheese? It fell apart since the chile was rolled with a thin scrambled egg on the outside like a crepe? The burrito had a teaspoon of beans inside since I opened it and scooped up the thin amount of bean smear. Beans are cheap to make!! At least put two tablespoons!!!!!! The enchiladas was probably the decent thing to eat from the combo plate but I rather stick to chips and beer from this place. El Mejor de mejor The battle for best Quesa Birria continues. I have reviewed Chili Shack and Kike's but the new champ is Chaka's for a few reasons. The first is, they use lamb instead of beef which makes the flavor just that much more savory. Second, the consommé is so delicious that you just have to drink it all at the end. And lastly, the service here is always quick and attentive. The price with a fountain drink is a fair at $21. The wait staff are always kind, which I appreciate very much. I was looking to get tamales for my office. I googled best tamales in Denver and this place came up in the top ten. So I ordered two dozens tamales, half green and half red. The price was fairly cheap too. The green tamales were okay but the red were amazing. I would highly suggest getting some red ones from here. They have a great kick to them. Based on this some girlfriends and I decided to check out their happy hour. The prices were great however, the website and the mobile site have two separate prices. This was a bit confusing. The margaritas are tiny, the queso fundido was over cooked and hard to scrape off the burning hot pan, and the tacos lacked any kind of flavor. Our hometown routine is menudo Sundays about once a month. And we do have our favorite. So what to do when you are on a road trip. Well try a new place that is not a corporate chain of course. Chakas to the rescue for our menudo craving and aye güey que rico!!! The menu is super flavorful a brighter red broth than I am used to but damn it was good. My Buddy Chamorro have said it before. I have better and have had worst. But Chakas menudo is one of our (wifey agrees) top three! Can't say we will ever be back. I really want to like this place because it's a small local business that serves (some) authentic food, but had some BIG misses with the menu and service. 2/5 tacos: I was really craving tacos that night, so ordered the shrimp and lengua tacos. Lengua was way over cooked, dry, and tasteless. Shrimp was flavorless. They also came out lukewarm. While I love that they serve the tacos with toppings on the side for customization, they give so little. Service is incredibly spotty, which makes it even harder to get what you need. 5/5 menudo: what an incredible soup for a winter storm. Hit the spot, and they were generous with the meat and hominy. My mom had incredibly fresh fajitas that smelled incredible, so YMMV depending on what you order from the menu. 2/5 service: disclaimer that we came by on Christmas Day an hour before closing, so this could be a one-off case and understandable. The host was quick to seat and service us, but was AWOL after that. My mom's fajitas was missing one of the meats she ordered so we asked him to ask the kitchen. He insisted it was there. It was not. He didn't follow up with the kitchen. We asked again, and he finally asked the kitchen who also insisted there was. This place is very good! The menu is large and they have some solid options for vegans. I got the smothered veggie burrito with no cheese and it was one of the best I've ever had! It was stuffed with a variety of vegetables including zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, corn, and onions along with rice and beans. It was also topped with a delicious green chili and garnished with lettuce and tomato. The chili had a great kick to it: a little spice but not too much. The whole thing was $10.71 after tax though which is quite a lot for a burrito The inside is really cool. I would love to dine in sometime when the virus clears. Growing up in NM I was spoiled when it came to authentic Mexican food so I'm picky when finding restaurants in Denver that compare. I found this "hole in the wall" hidden gem on Yelp tonight and so glad my friends and I decided to check it out! Auturo was our server and was attentive to details and very friendly the minute we walked in! They bring out a basket of homemade chips and salsa and we immediately knew the rest of the food was going to be amazing! We also ordered house margaritas, a strawberry margarita, and a michelada and every drink was amazing severed in large margarita glasses! One couple ordered the chicken fajitas for two and it was a beautiful presentation with all the fixings to dress them up. They also chose corn tortillas which were homemade and so soft but sturdy the food literally melts in your mouth. I opted for the Tacos Al Carbon and steak was cooked to perfection served with a side of beans and rice. I also was craving a good Chile Relleno which has been hard to find here in Colorado and they nailed it! I asked Arturo to surprise me with either the soft or crispy version and he brought the crispy one and it was sooooo good! Also was Definitely perfection. It's difficult for me to give any Mexican food restaurants 5 stars because I'm picky due to where I grew up but this place did not let me down. I've come here several times and haven't been let down yet. Overall the food is good, the first time I got a fajita burrito that was yummy, the second I got chicken enchiladas that were about 3/5. The red sauce on top lacked a little but was overall tasty. This last time the fajitas were spot on and I ate every bite. Our service has always been great, and the atmosphere is authentic and quaint. Definitely recommend the sopapilla to end the meal with something sweet. Will definitely be returning soon! read more

I got a chicken and bean burrito with lettuce and tomato inside as well as 1/2 and 1/2 chili. It was very bland which I find is very hard to accomplish in Mexican food. It was good as in there was nothing inherently WRONG w the burrito but it was very disappointing for $13. If you like spicy at all, you should probably get extra extra hot. Even though it is a whole in the mall place in Aurora that is clearly run by Mexican people, it honestly tasted very Americanized. I would not come back here and would not recommend to others. I called in for breakfast tacos and it was weird because it was like I was speaking in another language and didn't understand. So they put the manager on the phone, and she ended up taking my order. I ordered 1 (bacon, egg and cheese), 2 (potato egg and cheese) and an Al Pastor. They charged me $6 per taco. Woah! $24 tab for 4 tacos. I wish that Mexican restaurants would understand that making your own tortillas shows passion in what you're serving. They do not make their own flour or corn tortillas. I know they just don't know how much their food would be better making it in house, or else they would make their own. The 1st photo that I'm attaching to this review is what I was served. The 2 other photos are what breakfast tacos are suppose to look like when you take pride in your food. Which plate would you rather eat? People eat with their eyes first. The tacos I ordered were small, ingredients were too finely chopped, I was given bacon bits, and the shredded cheddar didn't even melt, and like I said the tortillas came from a package. I'm really surprised considering the rating this place has. To be honest I just don't think people in the area know what good Mexican food looks like. Especially if they've never seen it. If this place was in San Antonio, Tx for instance, people would not go and that is the truth. Way too many better competitors. If you don't make your stuff in house, people will not go. Chakas really hit the I need Mexican food in my life now spot! A couple of co workers asked me to join last minute and I really couldn't say no since I had been craving Mexican for a few days. I ordered their combo #2 (cheese enchilada, Chile relleno, and guacamole tostada). All were perfectly cooked and flavorful... but the Chile relleno really stood out to me. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We came here based on other reviews and were not disappointed. The wait on Cinco de Mayo was about 45 minutes, but so happy we waited. It didn't disappoint. The food was flavorful, served hot, and fast, portions were plentiful. The owner came over and extended a very warm welcome. Bonus points for sure. It was my husband's bday and they brought over 2 complimentary shots of tequila. The house margaritas were honestly the best I've had. My friend has been raving about this place for some time now and I'm very skeptical, especially when it comes to Mexican food myself. So one thing I loved right off the bat is it was open later than a lot of Mexican restaurants which was great! I called the store to order over the phone and was greeted by a very friendly gentleman. I gave my order and time to wait was not long at all which was nice. I ordered a Mexican hamburger with a second patty and chicharrones as well as a guacamole tostada. I went in and paid for my bill and the food was just being bagged up at that time. The restaurant was full with all tables being used, the music was on and there was a vibe inside which is encouraging and I'm definitely wanting to come here and dine in. Once home the food was incredible! My hamburger wasn't dried out. The chili was so flavorful and my guacamole tostada didn't taste like it was guacamole from a bag or bowl premade. It tasted fresh which is not common. Only downside which was a bummer was I paid for an extra hamburger patty in my Mexican hamburger and didn't receive it. We were looking for a go-to classic Mexican restaurant and found this place. To start the complementary salsa and house margaritas were great! Overall, the food was very good! There was some sort of spice in my enchiladas that seemed out of place. Maybe cumin? I'm not sure, but it was a flavor that I haven't normally had in enchiladas that I could have done without. They have limited the dine in with tables apart but because of number io people walking in, was hard to maintain social distance. We ordered their Pork and bacon tacos plate, pork and bacon fajitas plate, drink, and chips salsa upon their recommendation. The meat was really dry and we just microwaved when we got home. They forgot to give me my drink. When I called them after getting home, they were not able to do refund without my physical presence and asked me to make a revisit to get my money back via cash.
