I purchased a Ball Trainmaster 135th Anniversary Edition wrist watch from this store online. After three days I reached out to them to get the status of my order. They replied to me that they mistakenly posted the wrong watch and that they actually had the 130th Anniversary edition which I didn't want. They told me they would try and source the watch from another dealer and get back to me the following day. After a few days I reached back out to them and they said they still hadn't heard back from the other dealer. I cancelled my order. Here's where the real problem lies. When investing in jewelry trust and integrity are critical. I've been a long-standing Chalmers customer, purchasing several pieces there over the years. My most recent experience casts a dark shadow on their integrity. In 2012, I purchased an expensive ring. I brought it in to be resized and modified. When I picked it up I asked if it had been reappraised. They said it would cost an additional $50 for that. I agreed. When I picked up the new appraisal, the value had dropped by $15,000 or $40%. To be clear, I actually paid closer to the new appraisal price. However, the inflated appraisal demonstrates unethical business practices and an unacceptable violation of trust. The piece was insured at the appraisal price, which no doubt increased my rate. I was told I would receive an explanation from Mr. Chalmers but received no communication. Buyer beware. read more

We bought my wife a new wedding ring at Chalmers in 2008 . There life time warranty requires you to come in and have it checked every 6 months, we did this every 6 months. At one of the inspections they informed us that the ring had some loose stones, they told us they could not fix it at their store and had to send it out for repair and wasn't going to be warrantied. My fiancé took his grandmother's engagement ring here to get it resized and restored for me and loved the service, so we went back today to get our wedding bands. The customer service at Chalmer's is amazing. We gave the salesman our very modest budget up front and he still gave us his undivided attention and helped us for over an hour to find the perfect band for me and one for my fiancé. He took another 10 minutes just to get the right size for the fiancé and also cleaned my engagement ring for me while we were waiting for a credit application. They held a warranty repair in their inventory for over a year AND charged me $50 for the pleasure of doing business with their company. I inherited jewelry and made an appointment to come in and have it looked through to tell me what is valuable and what is not. I came in after work and they told me what is 24k and what is not and then I had them test a few gemstones. They told me that one of the stones was worthless--- Turned out to be a 1.7 Carat Diamond which I got appraised at two different stores to be worth approximately $21,000!!!!! They should be embarrassed. I would not ever return to this store. I am happy they did not steal the diamond from me but had I listened to them, considered it fake and not gotten a 2nd (and 3rd) opinion, I would not have known how EXTREMELY Valuable this diamond was. Approximately 8 years ago I brought my wife's 5000.oo dollar cocktail ring with seven diamonds from Goodmans and her 7 diamond wedding ring from Skalitskys to design a new ring. We where told by two of the designers that they would not even be interested . They said the diamonds were old cut and they were not willing to design a new setting. Well we took both rings and the 15 diamonds to another store. What a wonderful ring they designed for us. Chalmers advertises how wonderful they are and they basically told us to hit the road. During the course of shopping around for an engagement ring, I came to Chalmers because I drive by it on my way to work every day. I hadn't really looked at very many retail jewelry locations other than online and, long story short, I never did go anywhere else after stopping in to Chalmers. I worked with Grant and Kristen. They gave me great service and attention, even though I was not going to be spending crazy money. As a salesperson myself, I am very critical of other sales people when I do shop retail because I know the game and I can tell right away if I'm being treated fairly or if I'm being scammed. I asked some very pointed questions that I already knew the answers to, and some questions that I didn't know the answers to as well. After the initial consultation I did my own research on those questions and was pleased that they matched what Grant had told me. After we had established some trust, and much browsing around, we decided to do a custom ring so I could get exactly what I wanted. They helped me pick out a diamond, design the ring, and kept me within budget. All told it took about a month for the whole process and they got it done by the time I needed it so I could propose on our anniversary. I checked in several times during the process. They were always glad to answer more questions, and let me know how it was going. I also met Garret Chalmers, who designs the rings and he personally showed me some changes we had to make and explained why. He was very considerate and professional. The ring came out beautifully, she loves it, she said yes, and everyone was happy! My one critique is that the final price came out a little above what the estimate was. Personally I would have liked them to give a higher estimate and then come down if it didn't cost that much. I get that it was just and estimate, but lets be honest, no one likes to have to pay more than the estimate. I do know that they did what they could to keep me as close as possible to the estimate and I appreciate that. Overall, I had a great experience at Chalmers. They truly earned my business. I will be back next year to buy wedding bands and would go there first for any other jewelry needs. read more

This is one of the worst jewelers I have ever encountered. I took my wedding ring to have it cleaned and joined together. The first pass was the most shoddy job with clearly visible soldering that my 10 year old could have done. There was a texture on the ring and they buffed it off saying that they were taking creative liberties on what would look the best and changed a white gold ring to a yellow. My ring has never looked the same and I will never go back to them ever. Be careful when you give them something. Their creative liberties can ruin what you have. Bought a wedding ring from them. The ring turned out to be very poor quality (but wasn't priced as such). Went in to have the ring re-sized and they said they can't because of the poor quality. So we asked about the "guaranteed trade in value" that they told us when we bought it. Apparently retroactively they decided that this ring didn't qualify for that. He would give us $100 for the gold and promptly showed us a similar ring for $9,000. Fool me once... Update....took the ring to another jeweler in town and he said that it will be no problem to re-size the ring and called BS on the reasons Chalmers gave on why they couldn't. His jaw literally dropped when we said that Chalmers would only give $100 in trade and wouldn't buy back the diamonds they sold us. Took watch to the ACE Hardware watch repair store. The gentleman there showed me the corrosion from the old battery. Tried to clean it. Still didn't work, but only charged me $10 shipping to send to Chicago for a free estimate. What a crock! If you are thinking about wedding rings, we cannot recommend Chalmers Jewelers enough! I am a stickler for detail and ask a billion questions about everything and they happily let me ask away and answered everything thoroughly. Not once did anyone make me feel like I was being annoying. They encouraged me to be exacting because they want the ring to be precisely what you want at the end. You are keeping it forever, after all! My ring was a custom make based off of one I saw online. Their designer, Garrett, made that vision come to life and it was even better than I imagined! I'm still looking at it every day thinking, "Gosh I have a pretty ring!" My fianceé (now wife) wasn't as sure about what she wanted at the start and she went through a few different rings till we found the meteorite ring. Then she knew exactly how she wanted it done. The Chalmers sales staff were super helpful with suggestions and being the go-between for us and the ring manufacturer. They were always on top of things and very quick to get back to us and we really appreciated it! Kristyn and Bryan (the bow-tie guy) were the staff we worked with and we just sent them a couple wedding photos! Kristyn was the person who helped us most, but we interacted with Bryan as well. And every time we went into the store, everyone on the staff was super friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome. That was also very important to us as a queer couple. From the designer to the jewelers to the sales people, we were both super impressed and completely satisfied by their work and customer service. We left with our rings feeling like we had new best friends! You can bet that the next time we're thinking of anything jewelry related, we'll be going to them! Oh! And P.S. The white gold and rose gold in my ring are both nickle-free/allergy free. I'm so glad I won't ever have to worry about that being an issue with my ring. Went to have a custom engagement ring made. Was told they'd need to find the diamonds and was never contacted again. I followed up with them after 3 weeks and was told they only found 1 diamond that was recently in their stock so they never even looked. Went to a different jeweler and they found 4 suitable diamonds within a week. Apparently the ring we wanted wasn't profitable enough for them to make it worth the time to make it for us. If you have to deal with Sue ask for someone else or look elsewhere otherwise you won't get engaged anytime soon. read more

I would not recommend this jeweler for Rolex watch repair. I delivered my Rolex for a simple repair and it was returned in worse condition. The watch was literally in pieces. Chalmers declared that the watch was not fixable. I took it to another watch repair shop and it was fixed easily. They could offer no explanation as to why the watch was returned to me in worse condition than when it was delivered to them. A regrettable lack of respect for the customer. read more

Went here to get my husband's wedding band repaired (purchased over 10 years ago from a different jewelry shop) and Grant was very friendly and helpful. The two different metals in the band were starting to separate and I was thinking I was just going to get a quote to repair it. Instead, Grant fixed it right there, in about five minutes, completely for free! He could have easily charged me a lot of money since I know nothing about jewelry repair and we didn't buy the ring there, so I was really impressed. After only 5 months of wearing my engagement ring, the diamond slid 1/2 way out of the setting. Fortunately I saw it before I lost it. My fiancé took it back to Chalmer's to be charged for the repair! SERIOUSLY - poor craftsmanship as I was extra careful with my gorgeous ring!
