Good News: I'm upping a star because of my most recent take-out experience. YAHOO! Cook time continues to be zippy, which I'm grateful to report. The upped star has to do with the food. This time around, I ordered a two-curry combo with dal tadka and chana masala, and I also ordered the cauliflower 65 appetizer. Since we eat with our eyes, I admit I was a tad disappointed when I opened the tray and saw what appeared to be smaller portions. However, it's more about the vessel choice. There really is plenty of food for a meal + leftovers. Both of my curries were well-spiced and--dare I say--a tad spicy. YAHOO! The chana masala is so delicious. I don't think I can eat Chalo takeout without it now. My only critique is that the cauliflower 65, while fried and spiced well, needs some salt and perhaps its own dipping sauce...and I'm aware I can dunk my curries or green chutney that comes with the samosas. One thing to note if you're picking up your order: ordering via the website/DoorDash is cheaper than ordering via the Yelp app/GrubHub. I'm so happy that Holland has a five-star Indian restaurant. This is a wonderful place to eat/ or pick up and go with your food . The food is fresh, hot and delicious! I feel we got a-lot for our money. It's been along time since we've had such good Indian food here in Holland . And if you are GF this is the place for you ! Tons of great options to choose from. I haven't had Indian food in Holland in YEARS, and I stumbled upon this on my maps and it was truly a hidden gem! Not sure when they opened, but the food was authentic, EXTREMELY affordable, and it was prepared and ready so quickly. We ended up eating in the restaurant (inside the to go containers, because they're primarily marketed as a take out restaurant), but it was warm inside and fine enough for a quick dinner. The mango lasso was my "dessert", and it was the BEST I've had around town. It was thick, creamy, and overall delicious. Very happy with our order, and I will definitely be back at some point. read more

Just had a weird experience here. Walked in with my little girl and we proceeded to find what we wanted on the menu. The guy does acknowledge us and says he needs to go to the back. There are tables and chairs in the restaurant but there's a big sign that says TAKE OUT ONLY. I was confused and not sure how to interpret that. There was a Door Dasher leaving as we were walking in. Once we were ready the guy seemed to keep looking behind us at the lady that just came in. I asked if this was just for delivery orders and he said no. I was so confused. Started ordering and asked if they could make the Chana masala mild...my 10-year old loves it but medium is usually way too spicy for her. He says that they can only do medium. I continued to order but my gut said to get out of there. I was just picking up too many bad vibes. I LOVE Indian food....too bad we won't be able to get it from there. read more

Great new spot! It's pretty small with only 2-3 tables so I ordered takeout. I went pretty simple with the chicken biryani and it was amazing. The flavor was great and the chicken was really tender. It was a giant portion, honestly enough for at least 2 meals. I asked what their hottest item was and the owner said they are only doing medium at the moment but they could make anything more spicy. Wanted to like this. I wrote directly to Chalo 2-3 weeks ago. No reply. Here it is: Hi, My family loves Indian food. We had your food this week. It was our second time ordering. Each time we ordered we asked about ingredients. Such as dishes not spicy hot, which to order. Ingredients like pepper (bell and spicy). We were told some dishes had none. This information is INCREDIBLY important. Why? Food allergies. I AM allergic to all peppers. Every dish ordered was hot. Some people DIE from their food allergies. You must stop lying to customers that the food is not hot, that there are no peppers. You can KILL someone. LIST ALL INGREDIENTS ON THE MEALS ON YOUR PAGE. STOP LYING TO CUSTOMERS THAT THERE IS NO HEAT (FROM PEPPERS). read more

The food came out really fast and was good. It was the first time and so didn't know what to expect. The portions looked small but we're actually filling. The cucumber(raitha) sauce is not on the menu , but they do have it. Make sure you look at the add amounts on the menu. Additional cost. As the first Indian place in the Holland area, you can't really go wrong. We visited the first week of opening so things were still a little fresh and they were working out some kinks in terms of takeout, etc. I wouldn't say anything stood out food wise, but I already like most Indian food, so that's not really a bad thing. As usual with takeout, something like Naan just doesn't taste as good when you bring it home instead of eating it in the restaurant. For the most part, the menu seems pretty classic. The two curry combo might be the best deal but we'll have to order more things on the next visit. My favorite thing about Indian food is scooping up all of the flavors into one bite inside a piece of naan. You can get that from Chalo, which means I'll be back. read more

I arrived late and was a bit concerned I missed kitchen hours. But the kind lady at the counter told me not to worry and she'd help me. I was really hoping to try Pani Puri for the first time, but they do not serve this at this location, but she stated their GR location does. Being short on time, I asked her what her favorites were. I love food and am willing to try anything as long as it isn't "stereotypical". (Tikka Masala, Szechuan Chicken, Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo etc.) I want to taste what would be served for a Tuesday night dinner, not in some chain. I vote for small and local every time! She recommended the Kadai Chicken and Garlic Naan. 5 out of 5! The chicken melted in my mouth, the spicyness was just perfect and the seasoning was spot on. It tasted familiar, but so different! Exactly what I wanted. The naan was tender but firm enough to tear and eat the Kadai with my fingers. The dining area is available, but very (VERY) limited so plan on carry out for the winter months. Hopefully they'll put outdoor seating this next spring/summer. The prices were that of a neighboring fast casual style restaurant, but this is definitely not fast casual food. It's so nice to have another ethnic option in Holland that doesn't just sell the Americanized versions, but an authentic experience! Sorry, no photos this time as I was too excited and too hungry to wait! They are working on a delivery service which she stated will be coming very soon, just processing the necessary paperwork. I ordered pickup before and it was great. This time I ordered it delivery through GrubHub. The butter chicken looked and tasted off. It was brownish instead of the normal orangish red color. It tasted like it was missing something and it had almost no spiciness to it. I ordered the two curry combo with butter chicken and butter paneer. It arrived in a different container than what is pictured. This led the items to be all mixed together. The curries were in their own sealed bowls, so that is a plus. The butter paneer sauce was the same brownish sauce for the chicken and tasted just as bad. I don't know it they changed cooks, spices, or what, but it was not good at all. read more

I was very excited for Chalo to open and I was not disappointed! I'm from Chicago and have had the real deal on Devon Ave a million times and the minute I opened the door I knew from the smells it was legit. Real Naan! Real Butter Chicken! Ordered from door dash spent 50 dollars after seeing good reviews. Was incredibly disappointed. Portion sizes were tiny, the "Side salad" was a handful of iceberg lettuce. One tiny chicken samosa. The butter chicken was the tiniest portion. Would not recommend. read more

Pleasant staff. The Palak Paneer was made with broccoli which struck me as a little odd. Overall, has a fast food taste and quality.

I ordered spinach Saag and Buttery Chicken. What did I get? Saag was like a soup . Watery mixture of green beans, mushrooms, broccoli, and only a trace of spinach. The chicken was tough and poorly spiced. Awful is the only way to describe the food. I have eaten Indian food in India, many other places, and love Indian cuisine. I will not eat at Chalo again. One star means AWFUL! read more
