I really wanted to dig this place but sadly, this will likely be my last time here. The servers were very friendly, the decor was cute, and the food tasted alright but there wasnt enough meat! They didn't have one of the items I ordered (kalua pork) so I had to get something else (bbq short rib plate). Normally that's not a big deal for me - I can roll with most anything but I'm not used to paying $14 for three pieces of beef, mac salad, & some rice. Granted i got both types of rice on his plate (red and white) but honestly we would've been better off with just the white rice. The red rice had zero flavor. Did I really pay extra for that?? Let start by saying the Fried Teriyaki Chicken was great. They somehow make it crispy and juicy at the same time. I had that years ago when I worked near by and had always told my wife about it. I finally took her and we ordered it, along with the BBQ Short Ribs w/ Pancit plate and Poke bowl. We got home and the BBQ Short Ribs waaaay too well done and I mean it like chewing on jerky. Good flavor but TOUGH. They forgot our Pancit and when I called, they lay tried to convince me that we had it but she eventually told us to come back and get some, which was cool. I had never been here before yesterday when I went in to pick up a catering order for my cousin. First off, the staff members were very nice- down to earth, and hospitable... it was like running into family/friends. Second, the food was delicious. In true Asian/Islander fashion, the party had way too much food- everything from Filipino to Chinese, Hawaiian to Guamanian, pizza/spaghetti, etc... you get it. Update- the only reason I have this restaurant 4 out of 5 stars is twice I ordered teriyaki chicken & when I got home their wasn't any sauce, they do frequently run out of items (because everything is delicious) and the parking can be tough. We're done. The quality of food has gone down to zero. Their side dishes are highly suspect- if I had to be honest, the Mac salad is probably from Costco, and I am pretty sure the pickled veggies are from another store. The Fried chicken teriyaki (their specialty) was tasteless with an overly sweet sauce, the ribs were just as tasteless and the chicken kelugen was over processed such that the chicken was mealy. Rice- how do you mess up on the rice? They have a very low quality rice that is cooked a little beyond what it should be - so it is watery and dense. So while I have no concerns about food safety (hot food hot, cold food cold) and they make each dish when you order it - the taste and quality has gone away. I went in this afternoon two buy to mini BBQ chicken plates... They were about $8.50 a plate. They included a single small scoop of rice, another small macaroni salad scoop, and one chicken thigh cut apart and spread out... 1st the quantity wasn't there in regards to the price. 2nd their was no flavor in the red rice, as well as a couple achote seeds. Might be safer using those packets of achote powder than breaking a tooth. Despite vegetable oil being substituted for bacon fat, that's fine, but it is so important to taste your water after all the seasonings are added, and to put the right amount of water, as it was also mushy. 3rd their potato salad substitute macaroni salad was dry, not enough mayo or seasoning either, also paramount to taste your product before saying this batch is the quality that we stand by. The bbq chicken was okay, could have been marinated a bit longer, and 2 pieces could have been served instead of only one small chicken thigh. OH MY why is that menu SOOO HARD to read? The font could have at least been a good 24 font on a 7 ft wall. Umm...okay let me squint and make sure I order something delicious. Since there was 12 of us, we ended up ordering 4 plates to accommodate all of us. Mind you there were 2 young kids with us, that were VERY hungry. TICK, TICK, TICK, it is now 4:30...where is our FOOD??!?! Someone in our party went up to the front to ask what was the hold up. She responded with it will be ready in 10 mins, HUH we just waited 45 mins and another 10 mins?? So we were getting pretty impatience. FINALLY, 4:45 all the food arrives. I stopped in for some lunch and Chamorro Grill delivered. The service was friendly and full of smiles. We arrived around two and missed the lunch crowd. I ordered the BBQ chicken bowl with red rice and pancit along with an order of lumpia. My son, the carnivore, ordered two orders of spam a la carte with a scoop of rice. This came out to six slices, you should've seen his face! He did start dancing at the table, his joy over spam is truly a sight to behold. My chicken was great, it had a nice char on it, but was still tender and moist. It was served on a bed of shredded cabbage, very tasty. The pancit was also good. The lumpia was okay, nothing special there, I've definitely had much better, but it wasn't terrible. It was clean inside when we came. When I hear and read from friends about how good this place is, I knew I had to try their food and I brought along my husband. I have never ever tried Guamanian food so I was ready for a treat. What my friends didn't tell me was that Guamanian food has heavy Filipino/Spanish influences. With that said, I felt like I was eating a slight variation or a different take on Filipino dishes. The food is cooked to order so if you're in a rush, this is by no means "fast food" service. It takes a good 10-15 mins for your food to be ready and it is worth the wait. We both ordered the Fiesta combo which is your choice of 2 meats and 1 side. His had the Pork Ribs and Beef Short Ribs with white rice and pancit. I chose the Chicken keleguen and Beef Short ribs with pancit and red rice. Also, ordered the Chocolate banana lumpia and regular lumpias. I really enjoyed my choices. The chicken keleguan tastes like Filipino Sisig. Instead of lechon thrown into it, its chicken and it is mmm mmm good. I was pleasantly surprised with their pancit because that's how my mom prepares it and tasted nearly identical. The Beef short ribs and the Pork ribs were delicious but the red rice was okay. As for the chocolate banana lumpia, its a milder and smaller take on the Filipino treat Turon. My husband killed his dishes. He loved the food soo much that he ordered more to go and added in the Tilapia and Shrimp combo. For me, I felt like I was eating a really good variation of what I already eat at home. My friends and I were down for a casual dinner somewhere last night so we can pow-wow and plan the menu for our Charger game party for tomorrow. When I text him asking what he felt like grubbin' on, he replied back "Loco moco sounds pretty rad right now!" As soon as he said that, I remembered reading Brandon's review of this brand new joint and wanted to try it out myself for some comforting island food. Note, they don't serve loco moco on the menu, I discreetly took a pic of the very simple menu so you can see what they've got going on. We get in, and there's three tables occupied. There's only six tables (that each seat four people), with more room in the place to add more seating. They should if they're going to gain more attention from other hungry, new patrons like us! The menu board on the wall behind the register was pretty hilarious. I had Lasik eye surgery four years ago and still have great vision, but dang it seemed like they had the menu in 12 pt Arial font...lol! Good thing they have laminated menus on the counter for you to pick-up and look at, otherwise I'd probably leave there with my eyes hurtin'! The three of us each got the Fiesta Combo plate which includes two scoops of white or red rice, two meats and a side. I was hesitant to get this at first since I know island food portions at the other places I dine at are huge! I went for it anyway and tried the beef and short ribs with the potato salad and red rice. This combo plate was the most expensive thing on their menu ($8.95), which wasn't bad at all. They don't have a soda machine, so they sell canned soda and bottled water. Our food came out a few minutes later in take-out containers (even though we dined in) and we got our grub on. I have to admit, we were all a little surprised at the meat portions, they weren't super-sized like we sorta expected, but it's all good. It was the perfect portion for my appetite, so I ate it all with red rice left over. The beef and short ribs were marinated nicely and was tender, so I was happy about that. The potato salad was okay, it didn't taste homemade and it lacked texture. It actually tasted like the packaged ones you'd buy at Costco or Smart & Final. I thought it would have chopped eggs, celery and other yummy ingredients, but nope. =( Would we go back? Yeah probably, but it was definitely out of our way since we all live in the South Bay area. Both their ribs are cooked perfectly. Not too dry and deliciously flavored. I LOVE their red rice. It's basically spiced rice, almost looks like mexican rice. It just has really good flavor as well. Their macaroni salad is really good too, but a little bit scarce because they give you only one scoop of mac salad, but two scoops of rice. I also tried the seafood plate. I made the mistake of not looking up Chamorro food first before deciding on this place. Familiar with Chamorro Grill because of past PIFA (Pacific Islander Festival) events, but I had not been for the past two years, so I didn't realize there was a Guahan Grill in SD. Read the other reviews on here, most of them said the same. Also no flavor. Macaroni salad - also bland. Even the ones at Albertsons taste better... Short ribs - a bit overcooked, even my kids who have all their teeth were having a hard time gnawing through the meat. It was also bland. Pancit - very bland, with hardly anything but noodles. Seriously, no exaggeration, even my pancit that I use mix packets for taste better. Spare ribs - a bit undercooked. And you guessed it - also bland. Day-old cookies - surprisingly, probably one of the better items that I had from here. For being a day old, they weren't overly hard, and it did have just right amount of flavor. Latiya - looks were a lot better than it taste. The cake was a little hard (think pound cake style), whereas I thought latiya was supposed to be really soft, almost spongy cake. Similar food at Hawaiian restaurants.... I used my groupon on my first try here. Staff was friendly, food was good and atmosphere was clean and simple. Guamanian food is a mix of Filipino, Hawaiian and Japanese cuisine. The food here basically reminded me of the Hawaiian joints I've been to with the spam masubi, beef short ribs, teriyaki chicken and kalua pork. However, this place also has some Filipino entrees like the pancit (noodles) and lumpia. As well as their red rice and kelaguen for their Chamorran influences. *The Fiesta combo comes with two scoops of rice, two choices of meat and a side. I had the chicken kelaguen and short ribs, one scoop rice, one scoop red rice, and the mac salad. FYI, chicken kelaguen is a cold dish and the chicken is marinated in this light, refreshing sauce. Everything was yummy! * I tried my friend's side of pancit. Bland. I had to assure her pancit is supposed to have flavor since this was her first time trying it.
