I got hit with a pancit craving that could not go ignored. I literally googled pancit to figure out where I could get some between La Mesa and Mission Valley and Chamorro Grill popped up. It'd been years since I'd been here and I think it was back when they were in Point Loma. I was able to order online and my food was ready when I arrived. They packed it well and made sure to include all the sauces inside too. I appreciated that! I went over board because I wanted it all- bbq chicken, red rice, pancit, lumpia and macaroni salad. I'm from Guam and I don't care this was the worse Chamorro food I've ever tasted. Kelaguin looked like cat foot, red rice was from the bottom of the pot, super hard, cucumbers were soggy and not crunchy, everything was horrible. This place is the most awkward spot to eat at. You walk in and it's huge. There's tables everywhere. Empty tables. I was the only person there during lunch on a weekday. I figured it was kinda iffy but never thought I'd be the only one... I ordered the BBQ ribs and chicken teriyaki plate with pancit and their red rice. It took 38min to come out - which confused the heck out of me. Over a half hour and I'm still the only one in this place... my food comes.. and lol it's wrong. So they bring me the right order 5 min later and the BBQ ribs are probably the toughest thing I've ever had my teeth on. Idk if yall mistook the leather seat covers for my BBQ ribs and sauced them up... but like.... I couldn't eat a single one. I just kinda sat there and tried by best to deconstruct my beef jerky. Cashier and cooks were kind so service was good. The food isn't great. It's not inedible but there are issues. Both my partner and I ordered bbq chicken, the chicken has a nice char and I cooked well but the sauce that comes with it is basically a tangy soy sauce and the chicken is flavorless without it. My plate had white rice and my partner had the red rice, both were mushy and overcooked. The Mac salad was very bland, pasta was over cooked and also mushy. I'd be willing to try some of the other dishes because the pictures looked good but, I'd have to make rice at home and maybe not order Mac salad. 11/16/24 Saturday Hi husband walked in to Chamorro Grill & placed our Orders. It was a large Order. When he got home, we were both excited to eat our Chamorro foods. First thing I noticed is that the 6 pieces of empanada were close to burnt! Its coloration is near charcoal black! The red rice my husband says is too dry. I told him it was sticky too. First time here and probably my last. Food was underwhelming, especially for the price we paid for. Had the combination plate of pork ribs that comes with 2 side items. I chose 2 small scoops of rice(white and red) and a "cucumber salad". The "salad" was like 5 slices of cucumber in a vinegar dressing. The ribs comes with 3 pieces. The ribs hardly had any meat in it. Mostly bones. I took maybe 2 bites of each ribs and its bare bone then. That combo plate was $18.95 I believe. Not worth the price for mostly carbs and small amount of meat on the ribs. Also ordered a large side of Pancit for $10.95. Totally not worth it. The PANCIT that is in the Combo was so good! Next time I'm gonna get that Pancit, not in a Combo but another order of big plate of PANCIT. Empanadas and their Chicken Kelaguen I have to come back again for that to try. The EMPANADA when I saw it came out so perfectly Brown outside I was expecting I will enjoy the first bite but I couldn't enjoy it coz not every meat inside was warm or hot, they were cold, I did not continue to eat them. The CHICKEN KELAGUEN was also not warm when it was served, they were also cold and lacked a Citrus taste. So the Empanada and Kelaguen I set them aside and continued to enjoy everything in my delicious BBQ MIX PLATE! The service was nice, the place is clean. I've heard about this place many times before but never had the chance to make it here, until today and I'M GLAD! Food was SPOT ON, to a Fiesta Plate back home. I had the mixed plate (Red Rice, Short Ribs, Chicken Kelaguen and Kim Chee Daigo) and IT WAS DELICIOUS! Also ordered Empanada and it was ALSO DELISH! I am not a fan of Pika but the Kelaguen and Empanada is always an exception to this, especially when it's the PERFECT amount of spicy. Service was GREAT! I may be bias, but I grew up in Guam and live in LA. There are no Guamanian restaurants in LA so I was very excited to come to SD and eat here. About 3.5 stars. Better than L&L Hawaiian. (I'm not a big fan of Hawaiian food) Spare ribs was good - similar to Korean ribs. Has good amount of meat on the bone. The lumpia is crispy and not as greasy. But it's not as good as other Filipino restaurants. I didn't like the sweet and sour sauce at all. Food portion is decent. The pancit is good but basic - it's mostly noodles and not much of anything else. The kahlua pork is good but salty for me. This is the only place I found that serves Portuguese sausage. The Kadun Pika is spicy dark meat chicken bathed in coconut sauce. It's got a good punch of heat that sneaks up and gives you the old five knuckle shuffle right in the sweat glands; I love it. My order came with two generous scoops of red rice and an average sized scoop of macaroni salad. Truth be told, I had to add salt and pepper to both the salad and the rice but no biggie as the chicken had plenty of flavor so your mileage may vary.
