Pulled Up To Order, Anytime of the Day. Excellent Service. Great food late at night, when everything else Asian related is closed.

Grateful to have made it here safely, we decided to grab a bite at Duyen Mai Vietnamese Restaurant. The first thing I noticed was that they had two spots right next to each other--so I already knew this place had to be pumping out some Vietnamese food! I looked around the menu and saw #23 - Phở Đặc Biệt (The Special). Of course, I was feeling special that day , so I ordered the small Pho #23. The bowl might have been small, but it was PACKED with meat, noodles, and flavor. Of course, all the sauces were right there on the side so you could make it exactly how you like it. We also ordered the Bún Riêu, which was simple but hearty and comforting. Glad we were able to fill up, recharge, and get some energy for the rest of the evening. If you're ever around this part of San Diego and craving some good Vietnamese food, definitely check out Duyen Mai. Yummy!

Phuong Trang has been a San Diego staple for decades. It first started in Linda Vista in 1988,…read moreserving traditional Vietnamese family-style meals before moving to its current home on Convoy in 1992. Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

The menu is a bit overwhelming at first because they have such a huge selection, this is truly an Asian vegan dream. If you've got some childhood meat dishes you're craving, chances are they have a plant based version here! Their dessert was also top notch, they are individual sizes and I'm not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing, because I would have demolished an entire cheesecake. The service was also wonderful, the server told me about the restaurant's owner and history, she was so kind and offered us an extra portion of a banh khot so we would have gave equal amounts to try. They also offer free lemon water (more like unsweetened light lemonade) which they constantly refill. The server said they made it all in house daily. It looks like a hole in the wall at first glance, but truly is a gem of a place!

It's a slap in the face to your customers & you cannot say it's because it's made from scratch when it's not a Michelin restaurant. Ive been here twice now and heres my honest review on this place:…read more Ambiance: More formal than casual but definitely leaning more towards casual-formal than formal-formal -- the place itself has a nice vibe with an island bar in the center surrounded by high tops, tables, and booth + table seating. If I had to describe it in one word I would say "aesthetic". Service: Great, the servers check in a decent amount of the time and you can usually flag them down if you need anything Food: This is where my review goes downhill. The only thing I would say is worth getting at this restaurant is the baguette with butter (no add-ons, caviar or whatever they have going on at the time -- its just not worth it -- when I got the black truffle on my butter the shavings were so thin they might as well have not been there since it made no difference in flavor) The tamarind wings are one dimensional -- the wings are fried well, but lack in flavor, its straight *overwhelming* tamarind with no other notes. House made egg noodles lack any sort of noticeable flavor, most of it stemming from the Lap Cheong but most definitely not worth the price tag that it holds ($36) The dry aged duck is where I feel the most "scammed out of". Ive gotten this both times i've been here. Both times its been overly salty. I understand its dry-aged, but the saltiness overtakes any other flavor of the duck. The sauces try to make up for the lack of flavor but they just cant carry the entire dish on their own -- especially not for a $100 price tag. The first time I ordered this dish (Jan 2026) the duck came out cold-warm, and the second time I came here (July 2026) it came out warmer.
