Teppanyaki is one of my favorite dishes, fast, so simple and easy to make, and absolutely amazing with loads of garlic butter! Papi's doesn't disappoint! They are a pop up cooking up around San Diego and Chula Vista. I tried them once, I can't remember from where (most likely a street fair), but liked them so much, I had to follow them on Instagram. The best way to find out where they will be cooking up for the night, is to check out their IG page and watch their stories. One of their usual spots is set up outside Thorn Brewing in North Park. During the week they set up at different apartment locations. They recently sent out notice they are struggling a bit and need the community's help to keep going! Last night we made the trek down south to Enclave apartments in Otay Ranch all the way from Mission Valley to give them some love! We always order the Papi's Trio ($40), you get chicken, shrimp and steak. They have 3 types of sauces, a spicy, tangy and a sweet teriyaki. You get one sauce per type of protein and if you want more sauces they are $0.50 extra and to get extra garlic butter is $2. We decided to get some extra garlic butter last night, but unfortunately it was forgotten by both the employee and my husband and it didn't make it home. It was super frigid last night so I'm sure it was just an oversight. Hopefully if I mention it on our next visit, we can get the extra garlic butter that was missed. IMO, Always extra garlic butter!!! Small businesses like this need all the support they can get! Give them a try and follow them on Instagram @papisteppanyaki. Enjoy! 2025: 3

It's great SD has this Habachi Food Truck option. I see them in other major cities. Food was amazing and ingredients were quality. Service was good, the guys are friendly and can work some options out with you. Pricing was fair too. I will definitely be back.

If your looking for the best food truck look no further!!! Papis Teppanyaki has the best bowls for you in San diego. Delicious in house sauces, combined with top tier quality meats. Give them a try and come through!

I stopped by today to support a business that is supporting our community. I had never been here before and was unsure what to expect. Let me tell you, they far exceeded my expectations! I ordered the filet mignon with all the fixings. The meat was perfectly seasoned and so tender and juicy. The vegetables were also very good along with the "dirty rice". Everything came with three homemade sauces and all were delectable. The portion is large and could feed two! Louis the owner was there and we had a handshake after thanking him for helping those struggling with snap benefits by giving out chicken bowls to those with food insecurity. This is the type of business man we need in our community. The food was honestly incredible. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Kudos for this small truck helping out our community in need. I will definitely be back.

I tried out this food truck at the at the farmer's market by the harbor. I had trouble finding parking and they were closing in about 30 minutes, so they had run out of some items. I ended up getting a noodle bowl with chicken and beef and they gave me a lot of meat! I didn't mind that that there were no more veggies haha. Both proteins were full of flavor! Be sure to get there earlier if you want more options!

If you're looking for a top-tier teppanyaki experience, Papi's Teppanyaki is a must-try! They come to my apartment complex regularly, and I've had the pleasure of trying them more than a few times now. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibes are always immaculate - tonight, they had some great house music playing, and honestly, as soon as I walked up, I was dancing and immediately in a better mood after a stressful day at work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is consistently amazing. The gentleman who took our order was friendly, knowledgeable about the special drinks of the day, and made sure we knew exactly what was available. He's always super chill, which makes the experience even better. Now, the food... It's always top-tier! I ordered the steak plate, and my husband went with the shrimp plate. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and flavorful, while the whole plate--steak, fried rice, and veggies--was seasoned just right. My husband's shrimp? HUGE, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Honestly, 10/10 every time. As for the price, it's a little more than what we usually pay for takeout, but considering the generous portions and the fact that I can go downstairs to pick up a fully cooked, delicious meal (that usually feeds me for dinner and lunch the next day), it's totally worth it. Overall, I can't recommend Papi's Teppanyaki enough. If you get the chance, definitely check them out--truly the best!

I'd opt in for this Hibachi spot anyday I have a little extra money to spend!! I attended the Foodie Feast at Casa Mira View and ordered Papis Trio which included steak, jumbo shrimp, chicken, veggies, and fried rice. They also gave me a sample of all of their sauces including a side of garlic butter. This food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was seasoned to perfection. There was so much food that I was able to enjoy it over the course of 2 days! S/O to Chris, Izzy and Lewis for the amazing experience!

Once the whole party was seated & our order was taken, we received our delicious ginger salad and miso soup quickly. When our chef arrived he was ready to put on a show! He was so fun, engaging and very genuine. All of the food was amazing. I got the filet mignon steak w/ fried rice and my husband gets the sumo steak. The filet mignon is definitely worth it but if you prefer more meat, the sumo steak is the way to go. The drinks are affordable and compared to other teppanyaki places, the food is affordable and absolutely worth it. They also offer a happy hour in the dining room only - does not include the teppanyaki grill area. Truly one of our favorite places!!

3.5/5 Stars - Nice Experience, But Some Service and Timing Issues…read more We visited Tabi-Ji Teppanyaki for my husband's birthday and had an overall decent experience, though there were a few things that would make us think twice before returning. We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. As for the food: * Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5): Fresh, good quality fish, and a generous portion. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.

Fortunately, this place was just inside the plaza, close to the entrance from the main avenue. We walked in and were please to see that there would be no wait to get seated. The place was clean and modernly decorated. I liked the decor here, which reminded me of Benihana back home. They have similar tables where a chef can cook the food in front of you, and make a show of it. We sat down at a regular table, near the sushi bar. I knew what I wanted, which was the rainbow roll, or the "arcoiris." After putting in my order, I was intrigued to find different types of soy sauce. They had a spicy one, a regular one, and a sweet one. I placed a bit of each on my tray, and alternated with them as I ate my sushi. The roll itself was pretty big, and it was delicious! I ordered another roll, and also dipped each cut alternatively into each sauce. I personally liked the sweet sauce, it added extra character to my sushi rolls. After checking out, we made our way out and toward our next destination. We enjoyed our meal here, and would consider it as an option the next time I find myself in Plaza Rio.

This was the next closest spot (it was actually some place else we were looking for) and since we aren't familiar with the area, we didn't know what Hillcrest was known for, and it was popping at 1:30 am! I told CK we have to hurry and beat the drunk crowds! This taco truck doesn't have prices listed and after our bill came out to $75 for 6 tacos and carne asada fries, we asked for the receipt (to make sure we weren't overcharged). But really, it's like ~$8 ea for a taco and $17.50 for carne asada fries! We ordered a keto taco, vampiro taco, and carne asada fries. Keto tacos are made with a cheese shell instead of tortilla and this was the best keto taco I've ever had because it isn't overly salty and it's a generous size - I'm still thinking about it today! The cheese was perfectly melted inside, I was so surprised how much he used. The vampiro taco took me by surprise. Either I've never had a good one and this place did it right, or it's the best one I've had also. Quick reference from google as to what a vampiro taco is: "A vampiro taco is a crispy Mexican street taco that features a griddled, crispy tortilla with a layer of melted cheese, topped with meat (like grilled steak), and finished with fresh toppings such as guacamole, onion, and salsa. It's a cross between a tostada and a quesadilla, known for its crunchy texture and savory, cheesy flavor." This vampiro taco was like a taco sandwich, and it was sooo good, cause the tortilla's that were used as buns were CRISPY! It was so filling, I couldn't finish my second vampiro taco (after I ate the keto). CK also loved the carne asada fries - but I didn't get to try it. Though we felt scammed out of $75 for 6 tacos and fries, we did say it was worth the money for how everything tasted. Definitely a stop for next time even when you're sober!
