Trying Champ Burger has been elusive because the hours are limited to weekdays from 10am - 4:30pm. I was off work one day when I remembers I wanted to try it. Just another great burger spot. I ordered the jalapeño double cheeseburger and fries.... juicy, spicy, cheesy..... delicious. Fries are also excellent. Great value. Interesting way of stacking burgers and cheese. Patty cheese, patty cheese. I prefer cheese on top of each patty. Just my opinion. Quick tip: parking is limited and there are lines at lunch. You may need to park a block away and walk up but trust me, you'll need the extra steps!. I need to go back soon, next time I will snap a pic and update. read more

I will keep this review as simplistic as possible! The Houston natives has told me on several occasions that this is a must stop for anyone wanting to try a "good burger" while in Houston. I finally relented and made a special trip to see what all the hype is about. I must state that is place is a solid 4 star establishment. You can't reinvent the wheel with hamburgers! Fresh meat and fresh ingredients people...that is what gets a hamburger from cooked hockey puck to something worth eating. Fresh meat and fresh ingredients is what has kept this place open, in the same spot, for over 50 years. Since I was in an experimentation mood, I went with a champ double meat and double cheese, with fries and strawberry shake. The fries and shake had a decent taste to it, but nothing over the top delicious. The patties were the story and winner here. You had big patties...that were freshly made...that were super juicy when you bit into them! You TRULY COULD tell that these juicy patties were not only fresh, but recently made into its delicious form. All in all, this place has decent variety, decent pricing and lots of taste! The lunch special is worth getting for taste and frugal pocket satisfaction. Make sure to pick up the punch card for a frequent eating reward. read more

Man, why go to Whataburger when you can go here? Burger tasted so fresh, fries were crispy, bacon was crispy. There were five people in line ahead of me and I still got my order in less than five minutes, which was great as I only had an hour for lunch. Only gripe, which isn't really a gripe, is that the burger is so messy, but who doesn't love a messy burger?!?!? If you're thinking of what local business to support today, this is the one. First time here and as for the burger, had a champ burger all the way with jalapenos, fries and half and half tea. Good old fashion style burger with traditional fat fries. Burger was nice and juicy and the fries were cooked just right, nice and hot although not too crunchy but hot and tasted fresh. As with the burger. As the pic shows just a little more ketchup and more napkin's would have nice to go with meal to counter the juiciness and size of fries they serve. Atmosphere was nice not quite busy and lots of shade outdoors for comfort while enjoying your meal. I heard this place was good and I can't disagree yet, we'll have to see how the food settles. The service attendants were great very polite and accurate with order. Would go there again and if your in there area and like what you see, stop in give it try. read more

This burger spot is good not bad at all still haven't tried the shakes , when I went I tried the cheeseburger, and chicken sandwich too at the same time and they both were really good , would I go back ? Yes of course just wish they would stay open longer hours at least till 7 or 8 pm cause it's bad enough they aren't open on Saturday and Sundays and on weekdays most people get off work late . But yeah that's about it just the time of them closing is what bugs me . read more

This place doesn't need my review the neighborhood can vouch for this place! It's a weird location but it's in the heart of the community. The staffed is very attentive and nice. Once order is placed your food comes in no time. They always have a Lunch special which is when the community comes to eat and even with the crowd your food is fast! My only downside would be is to provide some fans for this Texas heat when eating outside. But other than the the food and my experience would be 5 stars! read more

Had the mushroom and Swiss burger and my husband had the double meat burger and I was amazed!!! The burger had so many mushrooms and I've never had that before. They weren't small either they were big and juicy!! Loved that burger and I need to try more!! Have had this place on my go to list for some time. Did not disappoint. Tried coming over a little after the lunch crowd would come through, but really the lunch crowd looks like it is from 10:45 till closing. Split the chili cheese fries and the Texas size steak sandwich. Fries were crisp, hot and just the right amount of chili and cheese applied. Steak sandwich is actually a chicken fried steak sandwich and it was also a winner. Fresh lettuce, tomato and pickles topped this sandwich between two tasty bun halves. Another in our party had the bacon cheeseburger and it looked like a beauty. Thank you Saladino family for continuing to feed the Houston community. I went here with my coworkers for a team lunch on Friday and heard good things about the hole in the wall. I had been craving a burger for a while so I was pretty excited. The place is a little building with outside seating and their menu is very simple which I liked. I ordered just a cheeseburger with French fries and my friend ordered their burger with onion rings. Honestly overall the burger was great! It was massive though so go hungry. It tasted like a normal burger but it was seasoned very well and their onion rings are to die for. It gets pretty much during peak lunch hour so try to go a little early if you can. Overall I would recommend this place and come back, it is however in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood so beware. read more

I've been a fan of Champ Burger for MANY years. Was there recently and was kind of thrown off by the prices. We ordered a combo special (the one they have advertised on the dry erase board) and two single meat bacon cheese burgers. I kept running the numbers through my head and it just couldn't figure out why they charged us over $27.00. ?! Curiosity got the best of me and I finally called them. Turns out that the single meat bacon cheeseburger is now $8.19 with tax. The burger/fries/drink combo is now $10.77 with tax. The prices just seemed a little steep considering what their menu reads. I'm still going to continue my patronage, but I think when places decide to hike their prices, they should go ahead and update their menus. read more

Why is it that the simple little shacks always seem to make a pretty good burger? This palce is nothing special from the ouside and in fact you could drive by without noticing it if you don't know what to look for. There is thankfully a decent size outdoor eating area and some of the tables are even covered so you don't die of heat during the summer. With an $8 burger, fry and drink lunch special, you might as well give this place a try. However I'm of the "go big or go home" mentality so I had the bacon cheese burger, onion rings and large orange shake. The $13 investment left me quite full. In fact I'm writing this review over an hour later and I'm still working on the large orange shake which is the perfect melted creamsicle taste to bring you back to your youth while also making you regret getting the large (but it was such a good value! Who has milkshakes this big for under $4?!?) So yes, get the shake... and try the orange one. Also if you are not opposed to bacon you want that on your burger. Champ does it right with enough bacon on the burger to see and taste it. So why only a 4 you may ask... well the onion rings are rather average. They arn't bad, but they aren't that great. A friend and I did some ring/fry trading and she didn't even eat the whole onion ring. I was also left rather unimpressed with quite average fries. However, don't let this dissuade you... go for the burger and shake, who needs fried food anyways? Oh, unlike some older reviews that say this place is cash only.
