I went into Champion Salon because I had seen some of my friends on yelp raving about it. I saw the designs and I definitely needed to check this place out. I love how they hand draw all of the designs and they were super patient with me. I liked almost every design and I couldn't decide on what I wanted. This is my 3rd time here. I really come for Phuong, I ended up with her mom which is cool. I got an overlay and pedicure. I'm somewhat satisfied with my overlay, it's a bit thick. I'll go to my usual lady in Oakland who does it perfectly. My pedicure was blah. Phuong is super talented, her designs are AMAZEBALLS!!! In the future I'll ask for her specifically for my nails. I have no idea where these amazing reviews are coming from. This was my first time coming here and was disappointed. I walked in the place was super dirty. Dust on the polishes like its hasn't been cleaned in years. I came for a deluxe type pedi, clay and a good massage. Nope none of that. No massage, no clay mask, no rubbing with the stone, no hot warm towel. No offer of anything to drink. This is just some hole in the wall joint. read more

This place has everything you need. You can get a great manicure/pedicure, they do gel manicures, nice designs, good conversation, close to home, and it won't break you. I found Champion originally on yelp, and from the "outside-in", didn't know exactly what to expect bc it's a nail salon/hair salon but gave it a chance, and now it's the only place I go. They have a great gel selection, and every time I get my nails done, I am always complemented on the work. Me and my mom along with my 2 sisters are loyal customers. My dad and brother even accompanied us once and the ladies convinced them to get Pedicures! They loved it=] If you want great service, this is the place. they are friendly, quick and still do an amazing job. I always get compliment on my bling-out nails. They also do hair. I got my hair bleached there last year. It looked awesome! I was afraid it would be to much of a dramatic change since I have dark colored hair but the lady suggested a shade that looked good my skin. I've never been so pleased with hair results! My Friend and I just moved to the east bay from SF and starting looking for a new nail place on our side of the bridge. Now I have been getting my nails and toes done every 2 weeks for about 15years and each city I have moved to usually was able to find a reliable and friendly nail spot rather quickly. Champion Nail Salon came recommended by a friend who saw their amazing designs on instagram. I check it out and got really excited about the 10 finger designs that looked comparable to my current nail lady in the city (who is amazing!!) I get excited call to make an appointment for myself n my friend. No appointments left for that day and the only appointment for tomorrow is 9:30 am. Hmm ok Im a night life promoter so don't Love to get up at 8 am on Saturdays but hey- it is what it is well take it! We drive 13 miles to San Leandro from down town oakland and arrive at a rather blah looking building. We walk in to a strange atmoushphere where the older lady sitting at the very front nail station proceeds to YELL at us "HII, WHAT DO U YOU WANT?" I say Um "Hi, we have an appointment?" She yells " OK..... WHAT DO YOU WANT" At this point Im already confused, assuming that when people make appointments they would make some type of note and have some type of idea of who you are and what you asked to have.( I mean its an appointment.) Secondly why is she so rude and yelling at me like im inconveniencing her day by coming in to get my nails done... at a nail shop. I say "Um we had asked for 2 fills and 2 pedicures when I called yesterday." She yells "DID YOU BRING CASH ITS CASH OONLY!!!!" I had cash but i looked at my friend who usually only rolls with cards and continues to ask where there is a ATM machine. They holler right there walgreens or the gas station or 711 and point in a direction. We walk out and begin walking in the direction they pointed feeling like it must be very close. Sevral blocks later and a uncomfortable discussion about how uncomfortable and rude that was so far, we already begin to discuss if we should just leave. We decide to go back because we both had saw their work and it LOOKED amazing so why not. Not only that but we had already drove waaay out of our way walked a substantial distance to go to the ATM. We go back in and im kind of looking around for where the nail polish would be to pick colors. A girl who's doing a pedicure tords the back yells "UM YOU CAN SIT DOWN!!!!" Um ok. Why is everyone so aggressive and yelling? Its not very comforting at 9:30 in the morning when im going to an experience thats supposed "pampering yourself". Older lady at the front station yells "YOU CAN LOOK AT THE BOOK, LOOK AT THE BOOK." I stand there and look at the books, they're super dirty and look like they've never been wiped down ever. Some of the pics u can't even see because its so dingy. It makes u feel kinda gross touching it for too long. We proceed to look thru every single book they have waiting for our turn. They proceed to take other costumers before us and don't acknowledge us for another 45 mins acting irritated the entire time. Its really hot and stuffy in this nail shop, they desperately need some type of ventilation in here because its hard to stand. I might be irritated too if i had to work in such hot, stuffy, dirty conditions. My roomate had a business flight to LA that day at 2pm so we were on a time constraint here. She decided to go ahead and asked to cancel her pedicure but still get her fill. I wanted to keep mine but they never set me up for it. Eventually i had to step outside to get some air it was so hot. My friend decides shes just gunna politely ask about how much longer it will be til we can be seen. Younger girl now in the front yells aggressively " WELL YOU HAD A PEDICURE AND NOW YOU CANCELLED YOUR PEDICURE SO YOU HAVE TO WAIT LONGER." wait soooo if we are getting 1 pedicure less.... we both have to wait longer??? Hmmm the laws of time tell me that seems odd. My friend goes ooookk N i step back in.... Red headed younger girl Yells "WELL YOU DIDNT HAVE CASH, AND YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE CASH WE TOLD YOU THAT AND YOU HAD A PEDICURE AND NOW YOU NOT GETTING A PEDICURE SO YOU HAVE TO WAIT ITS NOT OUR PROBLEM" Like reaaaaallly thats how you react to someone just asking about when do you think we can be seen? Is it ok that people have schedules and flights to catch? Not only that but would have even had some time to spare we were just asking. We had simply wanted to step out n grab some air for a bit while we wait. My friend looks at me shocked and asks if i wanna just go. My initial instinct was to flash on the nail chicks but I turned around and walked out with my dignity and grace and we jumped in our BMW and drove off. I have never been so disprespected at any customer service facility of any sort and quite frankly dont care how cute their designs are if they talk to you like your a piece of shit and make you feel bad for wanting to get ur nails done forget it. read more

I read the reviews on this shop on yelp before going in there to try them out for myself. So after reading & seeing some decent photos of the shop I decided to go in two days ago for a full set . WELL I woulda gave them one star but they really only deserve NONE . The older lady in the shop does not know how to do nails she should stick to doing pedicures & the mom files way to rough for my liking which is why she had to correct my nails from filing too much . The daughter did a rush job on the design & rhinestones then over charged me only to have the rhinestones pop off in TWO DAYS I have never seen such poor service in a shop even when you come in for a correction on your nails , they talk down on you as if you don't understand your own nails . & if they're not talking down on you then they are talking about you in their language right in your face . 50+ dollars wasted , I wont ever come back here read more

Based on the excellent reviews on YELP, I decided to go to Champion and I was EXTREMELY disappointed. It took an hour and a half to do a fill. The technician cut me on two fingers and caused bleeding and attempted to use alcohol to clean it up and stated that "alcohol cleans everything". No it does not. This is very concerning as this is how hepatitis is spread in nails salons. She also had a very hard time with doing a french so another woman took over and suggested that I call next time because the technicians who does designs are not there on Thursday mornings. However, I DID call and I made an appointment and was asked if i wanted design and I stated that I wanted french. I didn't think french is considered "design". The fill was so messy that I had to continue with filing when I got home and the white of the french is dirty as if the gel did not dry completely. However, the ladies are very nice and was very apologetic. read more

I went to this place since it was close to my apartment and I have to say I'm not going back. The younger girl started my nails and she was clearly rushing through them since she had an appoint coming in later. The client next to me start talking making conversation and the girl started a very rude rant at her! I was thinking they must be friends or this client is a regular for her to be spoken to like that. Nope. I also didn't like the fact that it took 3 people to do my full set. The younger girl put on my tips, another lady put on my acrylic, ANOTHER lady shaped my nails and then the younger girl painted them. It was like an assembly line and I didn't feel like my business was appreciated at all. Only giving 2 stars cause my nails did come out great I'm not gonna lie. Came here about a year ago and just getting around to write this review. I got acrylic and some designs with rhinestone. An older woman, I'm guessing was the mother did my acrylic set. She put the acrylic on pretty thick which I'm not really a fan of. Maybe filing them down more would have helped? The younger nail tech helped me choose out a design and told me what colors and placement of the rhinestones would be good. It came out really pretty and I got a lot of compliments. It was really expensive for what I got, probably on the higher side of what I've paid for 3D nails. But they are really creative and do designs you won't find anywhere else. Plus it's easy to communicate with the girls so you know exactly what you're getting, for what price, etc etc.. Now, the bad part... A young girl came inside to ask to use the phone because she was being bullied outside and wanted to call her grandma. My nail tech told the young girl in a blunt, yet pretty rude way that the phone is only for customers. I mean I know people have policies but what about common human decency? The girl was not older than 10 or 11 years old. Anyways, another customer let her call her grandma and the young girl got picked up. Horrible place! I am usually hesitant to try new places but I decided to give this place a try. I called Friday to make an appointment for Saturday at 1pm for my niece and I . We arrived 10 minutes early and to our surprise they only had two people working ! Two on a Saturday . We sat down and waited for 30 minutes and left as soon as one of the lady's totally ignored our presence and decided to give the guy that came 10 minutes after us a haircut . when I make an appointment I'm always punctual and expect the same respect I don't mind waiting 5/10 minutes but 30! I will give them 2 stars only for there designs. Awesome art work but the store is pretty gross the floor is horrible and they have hand written signs all over saying no on everything not really professional. They were mainly all nice and remembered my name they did a beautiful design on my nails but after 1 week my nails popped off from the bottom totally a waste of money. I didn't bother calling about it because they had a sign in there store saying 1 day policy so I should have known.soi learned my lesson. Wont be back. This is my favorite salon ever! I mean, sure, sometimes its busy and you could be stuck waiting if you don't have an appointment, but I feel that's just a reflection of the salon. They do good work and they're in high demand. I always make sure to make an appt with one of the girls because they do the best designs I've seen. I always get compliments on my nails, so much so that I take a bunch of cards with me to work so when folks ask, I just tell them to go check em out. The girls who do the design build good rapport with their clients and deliver wonderful service. They are super reasonable with their prices and keep me coming for more. Whenever I go in, I'll usually have the mom do my fill, she's a cute lil lady, and then she'll send me over to phuong or yuen to get my design done. Sometimes it's hard to choose because they have binders, and I mean like 3-4 binders of photos of designs. But the girls are patient and will even give you suggestions. Alright so I have experienced this place 3 times so far. First time, was perfect and i was super happy with what they done. 2nd time, it was alright....but today when I went it was all bad. The fake nail they stuck on wasn't even the right size. and when they put the nail on she glued her own finger onto me. -_- she left glue all over my pinky. So I made a appointment for my friend and I to get her a gel mani and a full set for me, we showed up 15 mins early and since they weren't busy they took us right away. All I can say is that they are sweethearts and actually have a conversation with you while your getting your nails did. Ha. I was told to come in asap as a walk in as I did and waited for an hour because there were other ladies ahead which is fine. So I came here because of all the great designs I've seen. My friends and I made appointments because it was hard to just walk in. We ended up still waiting even with appts. One lady did my acrylics but she was rushing so the young lady who did my designs had to file them some more. When I left my nails were very cute. .. until the next day. I like to get french tips with a single bling in the middle; They said they could really only guarantee them staying put for about a day, but that was fine with me since I was on my way to a wedding, and I only technically needed them to stay put for the one evening. However, a week and a half later, only two of the little jewels have come off, and that's only from 1: straight up scraping one nail on our oven handle with mighty force (There's a reason why I don't bake very often.) 2. trying to get something out of my teeth when I found toothpicks to be elusive. I'm very glad I got the gel; the color still looks completely fresh (Aside from the two missing gems), and the length of time these gems have stayed makes me one happy camper! Im quite tempted to see if Phuong can duplicate a set of deco nails that I have next time... So yeah! These guys are efficient, friendly, talented, and I can't wait to see what they can do next! :) I will be back! read more

Ok all I can say besides of course that the work here is steller, is that when you go to this shop, your not only able to get a mani/pedi (nail art), haircuts, pierced ears, waxing etc. Your also gonna find friends here to listen and give u wisdom, become a member of the family, (seriously, I call the owner mom ok) you Will be laughing your ass off entire time and won't even mind waiting (very rare occasion) because staff is just awesome. This family owned shop, is just that, FAMILY. Unlike other shops, English is spoken here out of respect so nobody ever feels they are being dissed. I have been going to champion salon since I was 12 (no joke!) starting off at manicures, and of course as I got older I got into the fashion of acrylics when mamasahn bought the place. I too am an artist but I always leave my nail art to my girls, and highly recommend them and mamasahn to any one I know. I have sent them alot of my girlfriends and handed out business cards to those that ever ask me the infamous Q: "omg! Where did you get your nails done?!? " I never let anyone touch my hair except for either me or mamasahn when I need a cut. I've ventured out to other salons and it never compares to Champion Salon. (plus when I did, I totally felt guilty for cheating! ;\) They have listened to all my drama throughout the years and never forget where we left off when I return. Champion nails is a magical nail salon. They give having ur nails done a whole new meaning. I made an appointment for saturday 4 me & my daughter, manicure & pedicure. I love it I didnt have to wait. This is my second visit to Champion. The girls are so talented. They are very nice people and provide fast service. I love the way they dont make your acrylic really thick,they a do it just right.I recently got the marble design and it amazed me how she did it, I have never seen such art at a nail salon.Also the mother is adorable.If you want beautiful nails with all the perks I would recommend you visit Champion nail salon. Thank you to everyone from Champion Salon who responded to my review. I just want to clarify that I did ask for a full set of UV Gel nails. I guess there was some sort of miscommunication which is understandable. The nail tech had to have known that glueing tips on and painting over them would never have lasted longer than a day. If I had researched more about uv gel nails before I came in this probably never would have happened. Lesson learned :) read more
