I usually don't post customer service experiences publicly, but this situation honestly frustrated me enough that I felt it was worth sharing. On 05/21/2026 I purchased a pair of Nike ReactX Rejuven8 shoes and another item from the Champs Sports / Foot Locker location at Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, CA. The very next morning, before work, I attempted to return the items. The issue was the store never opened during its posted business hours. Online hours showed the store opened at 10:00 AM. I waited until around 11:30 AM and nobody ever opened the store, so I eventually had to leave for work. As someone who has worked retail for many years, I understand mistakes happen. Staffing issues happen. Late openings happen. But retail stores also have communication. Everybody hears about operational issues when they happen. That's just reality in retail. When I returned to the store later to handle the return, the interaction immediately felt dismissive. Instead of greeting me, the first thing I was asked was whether I bought the items "at that store." After I explained that I had already attempted the return the prenvious Friday morning but the store never opened, the employee Laylah became noticeably defensive. Rather than acknowledging the issue or apologizing for the inconvenience, she immediately started checking schedules and insisting that employees are "always there by 10:30." The entire interaction felt less like someone trying to help resolve a customer concern and more like someone trying to defend the store from responsibility. The return was then declined because the items were considered "used." What bothered me most wasn't even the denied return. It was the way the situation was handled overall. There's a difference between enforcing policy and dismissing a customer's legitimate experience. Because of that, I documented everything carefully: * I contacted customer support directly. * I also replied to my original email from Friday -- the one asking why the store wasn't open during posted hours -- and attached the updated complaint there as well. Again, I work retail too. I understand both sides of customer interactions. Usually there's some mutual respect and understanding when retail employees deal with each other. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience here. Hopefully leadership reviews the situation seriously, especially regarding store operations, communication, and customer interaction standards. read more

Train your associates to be more professional and courteous. Engage and be nice. Customer service here is horrible, and I'll leave it to that. I came in to purchase a specific pair of shoes, and I was told they do not have any in stock. That's fine, but they didn't offer me any solutions to order online or anything to help me locate a pair. Good place for some nikes a little on the high end but these shoes last for ever and don't get better than these!! Have these in many different colors!! Feels like you are walking on feathers !!! I don't always come here but if I'm in need of the new nikes or Jordan's this is the sport to get them , they have nice basketball shorts here to go with the shoes too. On Jan 01, 2023 I visited Champs Sports in Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, CA to buy 3 pairs of Nike Shoes, one each for my 13 yr old son, my wife and myself. The staff were friendly and helpful in helping us try 4 different styles and keep aside the ones we liked. The employee who was helping us kept the 3 sets on the cash counter, so it does not get mixed up. However, the manager of the store took those 3 pairs to the backroom, so when I was ready to check-out, the shoes were nowhere to be found. The manager refused to cooperate in looking for the shoes in the back-room. Instead, he sent another employee who could not find the boxes. The manager would not say where he kept those 3 boxes. In the mean-time, I asked a question to the manager about any available discounts we could avail since I was buying 3 pairs of shoes, like a 50% off on 2nd pair etc. He got very upset on that question, and asked us to either pay the full amount or leave. At this point, the shoes were still being traced. Finally, the employee who had originally helped us in trying various styles went to the back-room and came out with the 3 boxes. Surprisingly, they were tactically kept in a place where it was difficult to find it. At this point, the manager was getting rude with me about the discount question. I was surprised and asked him to just be polite. Instead, he started yelling that he is not my 'wife' or 'son' and so he does not need to learn how to be polite with me. By this time, the cash register was ready for me to swipe the card. I paid for the 3 pairs totaling $650.00. The manager asked us to leave the store immediately. I asked him to at-least place the boxes in a bag. He did that for one box, and started making excuse that the other boxes are bigger than the plastic bag, so just threw the boxes and the bag on the counter for me to figure. At this point, my wife decided that enough was enough, and she asked the other employee politely that she does not want to buy the shoe anymore, because of how rude the manager was behaving with us. My son just decided to leave the store and sat on a chair outside the store about 50 feet away, as the whole experience was getting extremely unpleasant. One pair of shoes was returned out of the 3, and I insisted the other employees that I have already paid and all I want is to get the 2nd box inside the plastic bag. The manager shielded all employees from talking with me, and instead started a duel of how he is not my 'wife' or 'son' and so would not take any instructions. At this point, all I wanted was to get the other box in a plastic bag just like the 1st box, and leave the store. All other employees helplessly watched as I was recording the conversation. The manager did not tell me his name. He also did not allow any other employee to reveal their names. Instead, they turned their badges inward so I would not see any of their names, while I was recording. Finally, the manager walked all the way outside the store where my son was seated, and placed the box in his hand, came back inside the store to the cash counter and threw the plastic bag at me. He then pointed us to leave the store. The other 4 employees were lined up just watching and none of them dared to speak a word. I felt unsafe, and called 911 that I feel threatened to even leave the store as they are all just lined-up there, while the manager was getting ready to somehow engage me in a physical fight with him. He took off his employee shirt and started punching in the air pointing his punches towards me. 911 was on speaker phone, they heard the duel playing out, asked me to come out of the store while I was on the line, and immediately asked the Stoneridge Mall security team to reach the place. I came out of the store, took my family 25 yards away from the store till the security arrived. And explained the whole situation. I requested the security guard to stand near the door of the Champs Store so I could walk past it to the exit of the Mall safely with my family. I would never in my lifetime shop at the Champs Sports. I bought those shoes only because we needed them, and it was Jan 01 and wanted to start the year with a new pair of shoes. read more

Came here on a Saturday to lace my Baby up. Keep in mind a mall on a Saturday, I was thinkin' more than likely were gonna get poor service but I was totally wrong. The sales associate that helped us out was extremely professional while assisting 4 other customers. She did an excellent job with the sale and customer service. 1 star well deserved. I have never been to a store where I have had such bad customer service. I came in looking to see if they had a specific shoe and asked one of the employees if they had my size. He told me he will check in the back for me. Right when he was going to check he saw a female customer looking around and ran towards her and tried to help her instead. I waited for about a couple and he was still with her chit chatting with her. He then turned and looked dead at me and continued to talk to the other customer. My boy has been wanting some $120 Under Armour Curry One basketball shoes for several months. My response? Nope. Finally, I told him for his birthday, he could have a pair. So, after a birthday lunch, we wandered into the mall and went directly to Champs. "Do you guys have any Curry One's in size 8?" JACKPOT! Just got 'em in, had his size - perfect! The saleskid was friendly and suggested other items (per his training). For us, Champs worked great - my boy couldn't be happier. The place has kind of a ghettoey vibe - not my thing, but our visit was productive. 3 stars for Champs. I've caught a few of the workers staring at my shoes before approaching me. Do customers' shoes raise a flag as being a good or bad? Could it be these workers just love shoes? Whatever it is, I wouldn't be surprised if someone went off by taking it the wrong way. They have a great selection of running shoes. Came here with my wife and grandson; he needed a couple of pairs of shoes. A pair for school and another pair for basketball. A young man by the name of Phesay immediately greeted us. Asked us how he could help us, we told him what we were looking for and he immediately set to work. It's been a lot of years since I've received the kind of service Phesay provided. He went to the back and brought out 4 or 5 boxes of various style shoes. He was patient with my grandson while he pondered his many choices. In the end, we left the store satisfied with our purchases. As an aside, at the check out counter I met the manager and passed on my praise for the fine service his sales associate had provided us. Never fails... customer service is @ an all time Low!!!! If I could give them a ZERO I would!!! Been here for a good 20 minutes @ least 4 employees around not one gave a greeting or asked if we needed assistance and we literally are the only customers here besides the one @ the cash wrap. My son specifically wanted certain shorts from here before school starts. That is the ONLY reason why I am tolerating this. As I sat here watching one employee fix her hair in the mirror, another holler across the room for another employee to help her and then use profanity because he was not coming to help her, I wondered if @ that point we would be asked if we needed help.... This store is really understaff, my friend and i received a bad customer service today. We're really dissapointed. Too less staff resulted a bad shopping experience for all of us. Personally i will not come back to this store again.We waited to long just to take out a pair of shoes. Before that, none of the staff responds to us. Pretending like we aren't there. We waited patiently at first, but soon anxiety came to us. One of the worst stores I've been to. Came to this location, which took us 1.5hrs to get to on our way to the Warriors game. Wanted to pick up a pair of Curry's shoes for my 4yr old nephew. Cashier checked both shoes and sizes when purchasing. By the time we opened the box (an +1hr away from this store), the shoes were 2 RIGHT SHOES! Someone tell me what the heck am I going to do with 2 right shoes? Run in a damn circle? Lord- if they can't figure that out after "checking the shoes" AND they handle the cash register, I hope everyone checks their cash change and their receipts. So I called the corporate office to make sure I'll be compensated for the additional trip/time to get both RIGHT AND LEFT foot shoes before heading back. Which they did stated without hesitation, "of course, the store should be able to give u some type of discount especially after giving u 2 right shoes" Had a friend bring the shoes to the store where they said they don't do any type of compensation (unlike what the corporate office mentioned). So when my friend tried to return the shoes for a refund with my receipt and physical original card used for purchase, they stated the card and receipt didn't match. BUT BECAUSE BRAINS AREN'T FUNCTIONING correctly there, they didn't realize I used my APPLE WATCH TO PAY. Maybe they didn't know it's 2016 and technology is advance and typewriters & flip phones are near non-existent. To triple check, I even checked my bank account where the purchase, low and behold, reflected. And so they didn't compensate for the 3hrs of driving for 2 RIGHT SHOES. They didn't want to return it, but because it's for my nephew, I told my friend just to even exchange. And to sum it up, not an apology was giving by this Champs. I CAN SEE WHY ITS RATED SO POORLY ON YELP. Good job Champs! Keep up the horrible work! I feel bad for the decent people that work there. Came in just looking around and found some shoes we asked for a size and the girl we asked didn't even make eye contact with us then super rude said there where no more sizes. Looked like she hated her life at that moment mugged us so bad. The second day, I went back in and not sure if he was a manager but he recognized me and was very friendly I see your back are you getting another pair? My brother wanted the same pair of jordans but in another color... it said in stock yet they couldn't find the show... I also found a pair of different style Jordans... they didn't have my size, so we ordered both pairs. I loved this location. It's a big place, they got a ton of shorts, shirts, shoes they got it all. I found my little nephew a pair of Jordans that I hadn't seen at any other store I went to. I didn't even have to think about it, I just had to get them for him. The people working here were very helpful. I asked them if they had any Sharks hats...they said no but they ended up recommending me some places that would have them. I thought it was cool that they were more concerned about getting the customer what they want. Most other places would just say no and if I asked if they were getting any or if they knew where I could find some...I'd usually get an "I don't know". Today I was in this Champs store... they had an employee that was folding clothes and stocking she did not move and standing at the entrance did not greet anyone... customers were going to here to ask about stock and she would stand where she was and yell back they did not have the size... I asked the customer did anyone help you she said no... this employee should forget about stocking because with her there there will be a store closing sale soon enough! Visited this Champs location on Saturday the 3rd of April 2016. Mary our salesperson was quite attentive, and quick to recommend add-ons (I.e: Socks and sneaker cleaner). After my son made his selection, we continued to browse the store and Mary was not too far behind. Mary took our purchases to the counter, and my son and I waited in line. While in line, people were arguing with employees about Jordan's that were being released that day. Needless to say, employees failed to keep professional. Yelling and arguing with customers is not the business. Once we were summoned to the register we paid our $213.79 bill, and we're not even thanked for our purchase. WOW I don't know where to start so you get the whole story now. Went to Stoneridge mall in Pleasanton CA. Champs store. Tried on some shoes and no shoe horn to help get into them strange right? Then kept them on my feet and went to pay the cashier. There were 2 cashiers working one ringing up,1 counting a drawer the whole time looking like she was so scared she wanted to cry. 2 people in front of me. When it was my turn she took the box rang it up asked if I had a VIP card AND it went bad to worse right here. Pulled my phone out with the my VIP Card so she could scan it. While I am holding my hand out with the phone on it for her to scan she turns to a co-worker and tells him to get her a monster drink and then is going into her pocket for money or credit card. At this point, I just drop my phone on the counter. It's not my job to hold my phone there for when she is ready, whenever that might be. She then turns back to me after paying the co-worker and said what happened, you didn't need to do that. I said what keep holding my phone for you. I said is there any other personal info you need to attend before finishing with me. She said well now that your rude I am not going to sell you these shoe's you can leave. I said they are already on my feet, she said take them off I am not selling them to you. I asked for a Manager she said she was the Manager her name is Lesli. I asked for a District Manager, she said she can't give out his personal info, here is the phone number to our customer service and if you don't leave I am calling security for you being rude to me. I said go ahead. So we stood their waiting for security to come. He came we asked if the other cashier could ring me up and Lesli said she works for me and I forbid her from ringing you up. I said what and she said it again that she was in charge and nobody was allowed to ring me up. Security just looked dumbfounded and said their is a Foot Locker in the mall. So I took off the shoes put my old ones on and left. I don't think I was in the wrong on this at all. It was my phone I didn't raise my voice or throw it I just dropped it on the counter because I am not going to hold my hand out like a dog waiting to be treated badly. read more

MILITARY FAMILIES BEWARE!!!! Our family has been LOYAL Champs customers for years! We've been shopping this same store for the past 4 years. Over the last year there have been a few new faces to appear in this store, and they're NOT military family friendly! On one my most recent trips to the store I was about to order a pair of shoes for my son, I had found the particular pair of shoes online and went in store to see if I could purchase them. The didn't have that particular pair in store but told me they could order them. So I said sure! Here I was at check out and all of a sudden they couldn't honor my military discount because I didn't sign up to receive one!? REALLY?!! I have my military ID on hand!! We walked out with NOTHING!! So I went through the steps needed to be in order to get my military discount! Go to the store and I'm ready to buy the shoes! Well the NOT SO PLEASANT associate by the name of Ramiro ( who is one of the new faces around the store who isn't military friendly) said he couldn't honor the online price! Mind you I called the 1-800 # BEFORE I went into store and they said there shouldn't be a problem honoring the online sale price and getting my military discount as well. But NOPE Ramiro said he couldn't honor that!!! So I asked him if he'd like me to call the 1-800 # for him right now and he said it he still will not honor the pricing! So I asked for his managers # and he said he couldn't give me that info, so I asked for his DM # and he said he couldn't give me that either!! So I called the 1-800 # on my own after leaving the store! They said it's a manger discretion so they could have honored it, but they didn't want to basically!! I'd say take your money somewhere where you'd be appreciated!! read more

One guy was on having a conversation on his phone not paying attention to any of the guests. One girl was showing another snap chat stories from the night before. I have never been so disappointed in the champs corporation. Darrel has the worst customer service and horrible treatment towards his fellow coworkers. I was at the store and witnessed how rude he was after I just asked a question in regards to an exchange. Kayla was trying to help me with the exchange, but needed Darrel to actually execute the exchange at the register. He was not being polite to either of us.
