There are a bunch of stationery and gifts for sale and a photobooth. You are faced with this *before* getting to the ordering counter. While not unusual, this will factor in later. The workers are very nice and drinks are served quickly, despite being hand-whisked. They also are willing to remake any drinks if it's not up to your standards. Great! I ordered a regular matcha latte. Upon taking my first sip, I was left dumbfounded. This was the. worst. matcha. I've. ever. had. in. my. life. It didn't TASTE like matcha- it didn't taste like ANYTHING! $7-8 for a watered down, BARELY GREEN drink? Surely, this is a mistake! So I go and asked for it to be remade. Twice. It wasn't bitter. Nope, that's just...how they make their matcha. It wasn't the quality of the matcha. THERE WAS JUST ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO TASTE. Holy Matcha was such a cute little stop, and we were warmly greeted by two girls at the front, including Lily, who was especially helpful in walking me through the menu since I wasn't very familiar with matcha and wasn't sure what to choose. I came with my teenage sons, so we each ordered something different and got to sample one another's drinks. We tried the cherry matcha, banana cream matcha, strawberry matcha, and horchata matcha, plus I ordered a plain ceremonial matcha to compare it with the daily matcha. I also picked up a bag of ceremonial matcha from the shop since they were running a $10 off special. Overall, we really enjoyed the drinks, though the sizes felt a little small for the price. Parking is a bit tricky since the shop faces a busy street and only has shared side parking with nearby businesses. That said, the inside is super cute with plenty of seating, and there was a steady flow of people coming and going the whole time, so it's clearly a popular spot. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way just for parking, but the drinks were good and it was a nice place to chill for a bit. I really liked this place! My banana matcha was good, not overly sweet and the banana didn't taste artificial. I appreciate that you can sub out the milk for no additional up charge. There was only one girl working the counter and making the drinks so it did take a bit, but there's a cute photo booth to kill some time while you wait. My boyfriend got the iced matcha tea, which does not have milk -- it is matcha tea and water. Not sure if Holy Matcha has sweetener in it, but we asked for some agave after the fact because it was not good at all. It simply tasted like water with grass. The latte kind of tasted like grass. This review is from my mom, not me as I do not like matcha. My mom loves matcha, as long as it's fresh. She ordered the Strawberry Matcha with almond milk and she could tell right away that the matcha was not fresh, which upset her. The barista told her that this drink was not very sweet, but my mom thought otherwise. She even had to water it down due to the sweetness. I have NO idea what happened to this place, but it isn't good, whatever it was. I'm wondering if it has a new owner, or something? It is a shell of its former self. It's no longer the cute; instagrammable place it used to be. Maybe they are remodeling? Gone are the cute green leaf walls and adorable decor. Now it reminds me of what an empty 7-11 that is struggling to stay in business would look like. There were hand written signs by the pastries that looked like pastries bought at Costco that were wrapped in cellophane which had been removed to display them. The signs seemed to be written on pieces of post-its and folded over. The person helping me was nothing like the staff of yesteryear. This is a cute little shop in the heart of North Park. I've been meaning to check it out for a while, but parking around here is always a pain. The shop is tiny, cute, and has a table with merch, stickers, cards, and keychains you can purchase. The cashier was very helpful and gave me a bunch of drink recommendations. I went with the strawberry matcha. It was okay, but for $8+ I expected it to be bigger and sweeter. The best part of this visit for me was the vintage photo booth inside of the shop. $6 gets you 2 photo-strips that made coming here worth it for me! I love cafe hopping, and this is one cute, pink, girly cafe that is a must visit! I'm not a huge fan of matcha but since most their drinks are matcha (duh the name) I went for the horchata matcha drink. The drink was perfect at least for me! Holy matcha is right when it comes to their menu. So many variations and I settled for their pistachio matcha latte (made with pistachio milk) while my friend went with their strawberry rose matcha. Both were good and could definitely taste their flavoring. The matcha here is flavorful and delicious, both by itself and in the lattees; I can only imagine that some commenters expected something artificial. I also saw others note a lack of sweetness. Again, just ask for sweetener, it's not like when you order tea at a restaurant or bar it comes presweetened for your tastes. Personally, I do ask for sweetener with my matcha lattees here because I do prefer a little sweetness. I much prefer having to ask for it sweeter than going to a different place where I pay the same price, get an articifically flavored drink, and even after I ask for it half-sweet its too sweet to drink.
