I've had excellent vegetarian buffets at this restaurant when I've stopped there with friends on my way through Parsippany. Even if you're a dedicated meat eater, you should check it out. You won't even miss the meat. The variety is impressive. When they cater, in my experience, it's not quite as good (and oddly enough, they offer chicken in addition to vegetarian dishes when catering). For catering purposes I'd rate it at three stars instead of four, but at least they keep it nice and spicy instead of chickening out and making it bland for mass audiences. However, some of the overall flavor seems to be a bit lost in the journey from Parsippany, but that's perhaps to be expected with most mass catering. read more

Love. Love. Love. I got a gift card to Chand Palace and it was my first time eating here and it won't be the last. The food is excellent and even though it's entirely vegetarian (which I am), my non-vegetarian friends and family are delighted by the food. The buffet is varied and changes so there's always a new dish that I fall in love with. Dal Makhani and Vegetables Bombay style have been my favourite so far. One of my first reviews starts off on a negative note. This is specific to the location in Parsippany. Food is great, would give them a 3 to 4 rating on it. Attitude and service of the Manager that runs the place is just poor. The reasons are as follows: 1.) We happened to be there during a happy hour and wife got a coffee. I asked for a second one (supposed to be free at happy hour) and was told that it was not on their happy hour list. This was incorrect, since coffee was listed on it. I dont mind paying 2 or 3 dollars for a cofee, but denying something they promise is unethical. 2.) We went there for dinner and I asked for a dosa. I had been waiting for almost 30 mins patiently when the guy provides a similar order to a another couple who came about 20 mins after we did. I just could't believe that and felt like I was racially discriminated. Like I said, we feel so bad that we have to avoid this place due to the above reasons, but the management can't be soo careless and hope people will put up with this attitude. Their buffet is mostly good with mild flavors and relatively non greasy as compared to other Indian restaurants around this area. We went in a group of four with reservations made prior to our arrival for 7:15 pm. And not surprisingly, as we had heard, the place was packed by 7:30 pm and people waiting outside. Now, the decor. It's elegant and classy, however cramped. I guess, coming from texas, we will have to get used to it. The food ( buffet) was laid out well. Starting with appetizers which were freshly made and tasty. However the dahi chaat was soggy and probably from lunch was kept there. The main course options were wonderful. Soup was superb, unique in flavor with perfect blend of spices. Nice, nice, nice. Went with family and friends on Diwali (a Hindu festival). They had a nice buffet dinner in their large banquet hall. Kind of clever because the crowd was huge and the usual dinner hall would have been barely enough. I kid you not, there were about 25 dishes on offer. Starting from the mouth watering starters - paani poori, oothappams, idlis and kachoris to a main course with roti's, 4 or 5 varieties of subzi and about 5 or 6 desserts, it was probably the biggest spread of Indian food I have seen this side of the world. I think the entire NJ Indian crowd showed up with family and friends. For about $18, the buffet paid for itself at least 2-3 times over. If you are the kind that becomes fatigued seeing so much food at one time, please stay home. Not for the faint hearted. And oh, everything is vegetarian. read more

Pretty impressive buffet spread - lunch on 12/27/13. There is 75/25 split between North and South Indian food. The "North stuff" was pretty good, however the South Indian dishes missed the mark - mini Uttapam's and Sambar were not good. For dessert, they had three selections - all were pretty good. Like others said, it's a vegetarian restuarant, at least at buffet. Everything was very well seasoned and flavorful. And they offer more interesting food than typical potato, lentil or cauliflower dishes. A place like Chand helps me to understand how/why so many Indians are vegetarian. You will enjoy all food here. The dinner (including tax) was around $18 but considering the variety and flavor of the dishes, I think the price was well worth it. PS: There is a big Indian grocery/super market next door. I was really surprised to find a dinner buffet here... hardly ever see those around here. The buffet was actually very high quality. Some actual effort had been put into the presentation, which isn't always the case at Indian buffets. And as someone who is mostly vegetarian, I love that this place is completely vegetarian. The food is tasty and you'll wish you could eat another plateful before getting full. The service was mostly good, although I was a bit turned off by one server who seemed to make a face when he asked if we would like any coffee or tea, and we declined. Good Vegetarian spread. They even have a buffet for dinner. Definitely need to go on an empty stomach. The buffet consisted of chaat, chole bhature, lemon pepper soup, dal pakwan, shahi paneer, dum aloo, fresh naan, fried rice, stir fry veggies, dosa, sambhar, chutneys, gulab jamun, kheer Most of the food was good. Dum Aloo wasn't all that good. One of the things I didn't like about the place was that they charged us 18% gratuity. Now, while I don't mind paying 18% for a proper dinner service, I feel like its a bit too much for buffet where the most work the waiters did was fill our water glasses and take our dirty plates away. Top on my list of Indian Cuisine in Morris County! As a former Parsippany resident Chand Palace to me is an icon of the towns' varied cuisine. The food there is all vegetarian, delicious and the service is excellent. I have been eating buffets at Chand since smoking was still allowed in restaurants, so that's a long time! Chand Palace was my introduction to Indian cuisine and it holds a special place in my heart. My friends and I would meet there on a weekend for the lunch buffet and absolutely stuff ourselves. We would linger there talking and drinking Mysore Coffee. Boy, just thinking about lining up for the buffet on a Saturday makes my mouth water. Try the Malai Kofta, Saag Paneer, Aloo Gobhi or Paneer Kadai. The Mulligatawny soup is excellent as well as the different types of Naan bread. Of course the Basmati rice makes the dishes even more delicious with its distinctive aroma that gives the richly seasoned sauces a way to stay on your fork. My favorite appetizer was the Sev Papri. All washed down with a Mango Lassi, these are my favorites! Though every dish I have had there I thoroughly enjoyed. The staff are professional , courteous and above all friendly. I seriously can't say enough good things about Chand Palace. My Dad, who is of Italian descent, and I went there for buffet several times and he tried everything I told him to try and he enjoyed all of them. Especially with warm fresh Naan bread. The buffet is the best way for someone new to Indian cuisine to have a chance to try different dishes and find ones they like. We had the worst experience possible. The food was pathetic and the service was even worse. We went on mother's day and the manager said ala carte would take an hour to be made because they are really busy but they have a "fixed combo" which was ready so would not take that long. So we went for the fixed combo. Even after that the food did not come out for more then an hour. When we asked why it was taking so long, the server was really really rude and replied saying it is what it is and it will take as long as they take. We had a heated conversation with the manager and then the food came out in 2 mins. The quality of the food was pathetic. The curries were watered down and the taste was also really bad. Buffet spread is huge... ..Starters and Desserts are wonderful to look at...but boy...it's not that fresh...beware! Been there twice....had a bad experience twice...Dahi Wada/Dahi Bhalla was too old....u don't need to be a food genius to know that....with the first bite u know its not gr8 tasting....some of the curries were stale too....Paneer was by far the worst of the lot....felt like biting a tyre...i guess it all depends on when u r eating out there....if u r there on a weekend luncheon...maybe it's fresh due to the high demand that day...but I guess on subsequent mondays and tuesdays they serve the same leftover frozen food...I wonder how do they justify the 15$ price tag! It is buffet style which allows you to taste many wonderful dishes This was my second visit to Chand Palace and I was pleased both times with my meal and also to see meany nationals there. A pretty good place for Indian food. The restaurant is buffet style and so obviously the expectations for the food are a bit lower, but overall not bad. I enjoyed the food, and some of their items are really nice, especially the appetizers and such. The main courses are well done, and enjoyable to eat. The sweets were a bit underwhelming but did not take away much from the overall experience. The service was a bit sub par, but it was alright because it is buffet style. Amazing Food, Great Buffet, you can't go wrong. Living in Northern NJ for 25 years we have tried Indian food everywhere in the state. At Chand palace you are always guaranteed to get good food and service. The buffet is probably the best around. Mostly Indian and a few Indo-chinese options full of flavor. Not just cream and spice you find at some other places. I have been pleasantly surprised a few times with options you would never expect like dal pakwan and chili tofu. They always have the basic dishes you would want and expect as well (i.e. paneer makhani, spinach paneer, malai kofta etc). Appetizers are great and you get a mini dosa as well . Overall some places can be good one day and bad the next. Over the years I can rely on Chand palace to offer me and my family/guests consistent high quality delicious food with always changing options. Management is always present and actually listening to (not just defending themselves ) to customers. read more

We have visited this restaurant several times in the past 9 years. We have always liked the good food here, which is a good balance of freshness and subtle flavors of spices. The only incident that has unfortunately made us take this restaurant off our list of favorites recently is the poor service attitude of a waiter. My 2 old choked on his food and before I could rush him to the restroom, he unfortunately threw up some food on the carpet just outside the restroom door. The waiter was waiting outside the restroom and handed over a bunch of napkins and asked me to clean up the carpet!?! Really?! Handling a cranky kid in one arm was one thing but having had to clean up vomit from the floor near the restroom definitely did not end up being a good experience. :( My suggestion for administration is to hone your customer service and/or hire some janitors if this place is deemed family/ kid friendly. read more

Everyone thinks the best North Indian food is in Edison, but this place is a real gem. My family has been going here for years, and we have no intention of stopping. The food has evolved nicely over time. Years ago, they started with excellent Punjabi food, with hefty amounts of spices. Over time, they grew into milder, subtler flavors that are suitable for a wider audience but still flavorful to more accustomed palates. Recently they've been experimenting with fusion cuisine, incorporating Lebanese, Chinese, and Mexican flavors into a few dishes. But they've done so without compromising the quality of the more authentic curries. The naan has also evolved quite a bit, coming now to offer parathas in the buffet: don't miss the onion gobhi (cauliflower). The desserts are excellent, especially the gulab jamun. And if the food gets too spicy, go ahead and ask for some yogurt, either in the form of a lassi, raita, or by itself. The Indian food experience is incomplete without dahi anyway. It's mostly vegetarian, aside from the banquet hall offerings on Tuesdays. But really, it's no great hindrance. The most flavorful (and many of the more traditional) dishes in Indian cuisine are vegetarian. The staff is friendly, from the waiters all the way up to management, and they're happy to make recommendations to unfamiliar diners. The dining hall is we decorated, but it's no need to feel like you need to pay a lot for a good meal. It's worth a lot more than it costs. I've been to this restaurant several times, over which time I'm afraid it has gone from 4-5 stars to a generous 2. Originally, we went there, enjoyed the buffet, liked the food and the service, and were happy. A couple of months ago I went and had a lot of trouble paying at the end -- it took maybe 10 or 15 minutes to process my credit card, which is inexplicable. But last night was the kicker: while I ate at the buffet my wife and son decided to order off the menu. We asked for menus as we sat down. Several minutes later my wife texted me to say we should leave, as I was still in line for the buffet and she was still waiting for a menu. I flagged down the host and she got the menu. I got my food, ate a full plate, and she was *still* waiting to order. At this point she decided to eat elsewhere. It was 25 minutes from the time we were seated to the time she still hadn't had her order taken. I should point out that after getting the menus, perhaps 10 minutes in we called over a waiter and pointed out we wanted to order. This was ignored. I used a livingsocial $20 voucher for myself (i.e. I didn't even get full value). I have a second $40 voucher that was waiting for the full family (party of 4 minimum), but expires in a couple of days. After my last experience although in theory it is still usable for the $20 cost, I doubt I will ever return. I mention the vouchers as evidence that I was so confident I liked this restaurant that I bought two different vouchers to go there over a few months, but they have convinced me otherwise. read more

We will not go to this restaurant again. A very tiny restaurant and buffet charge is outrageously high for weekdays and weekends ($15+tax+Gratuity)! We have family living in Parsippany, so we decided to go there. We found the food extremely creamy and many dishes were very very spicy. We had to ask for Dosas 3 times before they were made for us. We got a seating near the entry toward the restrooms and there is not enough space for people to move around freely at this place. While we were not thrilled about the food, they also charged us 15% Gratuity on our bill! For what???? It's a buffet and we are serving ourselves! I haven't seen any other restaurant charging gratuity when you have 4 people in your party. 15% gratuity on buffer in addition to $15+tax per person!!!!!!! It looks like they are out to reap off customers since it is a small place. Stay away from Chand Palace. We had also tried Dosa Express and Garam Masala in Parsippany and they were both excellent. Went back for another try. Almost non existent selection for gluten free. Showed up at "opening" 5 pm and waited for an hour before food was ready. Not one of the staff said anything to us the entire time of waiting even though they were late. I wouldn't have stayed but my husband wanted to try again. He's not gluten free so there's a selection for him. At one point the owner or manager came out and asked why I wasn't eating rice only the ONE dish I could eat which was cauliflower. Rude! Food had a nice flavor for sure and my husband enjoyed, but very limited selection $18 PP and lousy staff. NO meat. Carb overload. Not my cup of tea. I prefer cinnamon! Chand is a great veggie alternative in the Parsippany area. They offer about ten main dishes at the lunch buffet, and all of the choices are well prepared and tasty. Suggest that you arrive early for lunch, as the place maxes out, and you can wait for up to a half hour for a table. read more
