We came early on a Saturday for the all you can eat dim sum brunch. Some of our favorite dishes were the crispy duck rolls, duck bao, Mongolian beef, green beans. We loved the magnolia blossom oolong tea. Some misses on the menu for us were the chicken wonton soup that had too subtle a flavor palette for me, veggie dumplings which had a little too strong a flavor for both of us, and the charcoal bao with custard that was overall just not to our preference. Service was super fast and friendly. We ate to our hearts' content and finished in about 45 mins of the 75 available. They have runners to bring out the food as it's prepared; no carts. Despite being a big restaurant with a lot of hard surfaces, the place never got super loud and everyone was quietly conversing. Dear Yelpers, I woke up last Sunday with a craving for dim sum, so I drove into DC to try this place because they offered an unlimited dim sum menu. Overall, I do not think I will be coming back here for dim sum. And they dont have the dim sum ladies that pushes the cart around. To me this place did not give me the real dim sum experience. See my review below. Food: Their unlimited dim sum selection is very tame. They do have some signature plates, but I felt it was lacking in many areas such as veggies, pastries, and other dumplings. The taste overall was just okay. I've honestly had better elsewhere, probably because it was unlimited. It didn't taste fresh, and everything was very greasy. The food came out neither hot nor warm. It was room temperature, which was disappointing. Nothing on their menu really stood out as different for me. Also, you have to ask for sauces and other condiments that are often placed on the table during dim sum service (e.g., chili oil, soy sauce, vinaigrette). Dim sum is part of my upbringing, and the food was definitely catered to Western palates, which contributed to it tasting just okay to me. Price: I believe it was $36 or $38 per person for their unlimited dim sum. We ordered a pot of tea that cost $12, which is insane to me. I do not believe the total price we paid matches the quality of food we received. Service: The service was pretty good. The staff were attentive and checked in throughout our meal. They were quick with our requests for sauces and refills of water and tea. Everyone was very nice, and they cleared finished plates pretty quickly. Ambiance: This place offers a quiet environment for dim sum. It felt light and airy, calm, and without a lot of hustle and bustle. This is very different from the kind of environment I am accustomed to when going out for dim sum. It is usually loud, and everyone is yelling over each other. Absolutely beautiful restaurant, true to Asian heritage which shines through the decor. We went early in the day and while our bartender was good, service provided was painfully slow. Hard to believe because there was nobody at the bar for HH but I'm not sure why everything was moving at a snail pace. Aside from that, the food came out in great time! HH-they have a very limited HH drink list and the better options were the HH bites. I'm not sure if that's intentional but we were hoping for more HH drink options. HH drinks: I ordered the only cocktail on the menu, the Golden flower. This drink was very satisfying and light. A perfect mix of gin, pineapple juice, and Montecristo. My boyfriend ordered a beer, Tsingtao. He said that it was tasty and smooth. HH Bites: Pan Fried Pork Dumplings- Absolutely scrumptious but the paired sauce was overpowered by salt. We had to stop using the sauce in order to enjoy the dumplings. Char Siu Bao- Star of the menu! This was SO good! The Bao was soft and sweet in taste while the meat inside packed a surprising taste in each bite. Such a delectable dish. Dan Dan Noodles- the spice on this dish is powerful but the flavors are SO good! I'd rate the spice level a 9, be prepared to chug water after each bite. This dish was spicyyyyy but not the kind of spice which overpowers the food, you could still taste all of the other fresh ingredients added for a bite of culinary balance. I probably won't return for HH but would definitely come back for their weekend brunch and likely dinner. I think both of those times might offer a little better experience and it's clear that they know how to prepare some delicious food so why not return. read more

Winter doldrums! Break out for some tasty dim sum. Holy moly, I have been holding out to try an authentic dim sum place in D.C. and my daughter's choice was to try Chang Chang's. Good idea! Weekend Dim Sum brunch you can choose à la carte or from their all you can eat menu, currently $38 for adults, half the price for children(didn't ask for specific ages). Reservations are highly recommended, go when they first open to be able to try more selections before they run out of a specific dish. Wait staff are very attentive, you place an order to begin with, then add more dishes as you go and your appetite dictates. We managed to get through most of the first page, were too full to order much from the second page. This is a lively and energetic place. I won't go into individual dishes, only to say it was all unique and the flavors were spot on. Prepared and served nice and warm, rice made wrappings were moist not dry or chewy. Fillings of seafood, pork or beef fillings were complimented with herbs and seasonings that were not overwhelming and truly enjoyed. Come prepared to eat. They have a time limit of 75" for dining although I don't know how strict they are to adhering to it. I had pre-reserved a parking spot through a parking app or you could try your luck with street parking. The restaurant is spacious but there was quite a number of people waiting to get seated. My wife and I stopped in for a dinner of small plates. The space is open and inviting. We sat in a booth towards the back of the room. I was facing the restaurant entrance, and the way the room sits below street level, each time a car rounded a corner in front of the restaurant, I was blinded by headlights at a perfect eye-level. The options of the food has meat options and vegetarian options. Really great to try out lots of things. The food arrived quickly too! A fantastic experience! I highly recommend coming to Chang Chang with at least a party of four (if you decide to do dine-in), as the restaurant focuses on a shared plate model, plus allows everyone to try and enjoy the 4-way duck relatively affordably. Chang Chang's location between downtown and DuPont Circle is extremely convenient for an after-work meal or before a night out in DuPont Circle. I made a reservation with five friends for an early weeknight dinner in December 2022 and we were seated early. Chang Chang does require a $25 per person deposit on reservations for six or more people that is deducted from the final tab, so prepare to front money if you decide to go this route and also ensure your entire party comes so you don't get left with this expense. Chang Chang's ambiance is simple and tasteful-white tablecloths, minimal decorations, and reasonable noise levels. I never had to raise my voice or ask my friends to repeat themselves because of the volume. Overall, the service was fantastic, with two areas that could and I am sure will be improved once Chang Chang is around for longer: I had to inform the host about the $150 reservation charge for them to deduct it from our bill rather than having that happen automatically, and the duck four ways took a bit over an hour to arrive instead of the 45 minutes Chang Chang advertised. My friends and I shared five dishes and a couple of people got their own mains and cocktails. A couple of the cocktails come in panda mugs, which is a nice touch. The quality of the dishes we shared ranged from could have used more flavor to outstanding. I also appreciated that there are plenty of delicious vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, some of which were the best dishes I had. Mushroom Spring Roll: I found the mushroom spring roll to be disappointing. The fried dough and the sauce completely overwhelmed the carrots, vermicelli, and mushrooms. When I did taste the filling, it needed more flavor and some spice. Black and White Cauliflower: An outstanding dish. The cauliflower was crispy and perfectly cooked, complemented nicely by the black bean puree, onions, and sesame powder. Wok-Charred Eggplant: Another outstanding dish and don't be put-off by the three spicy peppers indicator. We had people in our group who can't eat spicy food and they were fine with the eggplant. The smoke on the eggplant was phenomenal and added great flavor and the sweet and spicy sauce paired perfectly with the smoky eggplant. The chilled whipped silken tofu topping the dish was a Michelin-level innovation and elevation of this dish. Buddha's Wudong Noodles: Perfectly fine but nothing special and something that you can find cheaper and better at other restaurants. Duck Four Ways: 1. Duck bone broth with foie gras dumpling: The dumpling was fantastic, with a nicely-cooked dumpling and delicious filling. The broth itself was a bit too salty and oily. 2. Duck Leg: Extremely tough, dry, and disappointing. The leg needed a sauce or gravy to add moisture. 3. Duck Confit Pie: An interesting idea that could be better executed. The crust-to-filling ratio was way off, where it seemed that 75 percent of every bite was pie crust. The crust itself could have used more flavor. 4. Duck breast: The highlight of the 4-way duck and should be its own dish. The breast was perfectly smoked rare with the right amount of fat and set in a good amount of its juices. Most places that serve duck breast should strive to emulate Chang Chang's technique. For the restaurant quality and the amount of dishes everyone got to try, Chang Chang is extremely affordable. I would expect to pay between $35-60, depending on whether you order dessert or drinks. Dedicate two hours for a sit-down dinner for the optimal experience. Chang Chang is a great addition to the DC and especially downtown dining scene! I got the Sizzling Three-Pepper Chicken for takeout in December 2025 and got my order on-time. I've eaten at Chang Chang before during their brunch, but decided to try delivery. I ordered the hot and sour soup, ma po tofu, and the Dan Dan noodles. When I ate in at the restaurant, everything was really just OK. This included Service and the food. I will note that the restaurant did have a cool look and feel to it, and I did like that the booths did give some space between you and other parties. I wasn't really blown away or impressed with anything, so I was really hoping that this would be a different experience since it had been over a year. Discussing the food, I did like the hot and sour soup. It's not your traditional style, but it was still very flavorful and I didn't like it. The ma po tofu was good, not the best that I've had, but it was still very flavorful and good. The DNA noodles were good, but it did feel like something was missing from them. I did add some extra like salt and flavoring to them really to get them to that next level. I do want to know that I do appreciate their packaging for to go food. It was extremely well covered to ensure that nothing leaked or got out. It is super awesome. Overall, I would say my opinion is probably still the same of this restaurant. I don't know if I would probably go back after this. We went quite early on a Saturday (4:45pm), super easy to get a reservation day of! The ambiance was very beautiful inside, felt modern but still homey. I love lantern decor so this restaurant interior was my jam!! Very photo worthy spot! Food was delicious and I love Peter Chang, so I'm glad I was able to enjoy this spot too. Recessed slightly below the street in a downtown area, this is perhaps the most prominent in the Chang family of restaurants. The menu is broad, and they split out a vegetarian section that has a lot of interesting options. I got both some tofu and a vegetable. Their preparation of cabbage is sumptuous; even if you're thinking that cabbage can't be that great, the savory flavor of this dish along with garlic cooked in just the right way to make it sing is a winner. They're ma po tofu was strong in both astringent and spicy flavors as well. In principle, I am okay with the policy of not automatically including rice, but I wish the online system it made it more obvious that I was going to leave without any rice. I am dying to go back. Friends and I got here around 2 PM before the dim sum AYCE ended (3 PM). We wanted to eat as much as we could as we were going to a concert and wouldn't be getting out until after 10 PM. We had dan dan noodles that had such great heat and the perfect amount of sauce. The bao buns were soft with savory meat filling. The braised pork belly melted in your mouth. The soup dumplings were great, but we did not get the proper spoons to eat them with, which sucked, but we made it work. The shumai were much better than other places I've been to. And the custard lava bao bun was so good. I've been dreaming about it. Now the drinks were were not big fans of but we drank them the ambiance was quiet and our server made sure he checked in on us constantly because we were cutting it close with time on the AYCE. To be fair, I've ONLY tried Chang Chang when ordering thru Doordash or Uber and I have to get the priority delivery just so I can get these fried pork belly CRUNCHY, so the hit or miss I'd say is likely more on the delivery than perhaps the preparation, but not sure hency why I'm sharing that here. Of everything I've tried from Chang Chang: steamed pork dumplings, beef chow fun, Wuxi sweet & sour chicken, chicken nuggets with ghost chili, Sichuan Lazi chicken, sesame beef, Golden Mountain beef, purple rice, white rice, and the mala crispy pork belly, my favourites are the mala crispy pork belly and the Golden Mountain beef. For those dishes alone (and let's be real, for the Mala Crispy Pork Belly alone) -- 4/5 stars! I can't do spicy, so I order the pork belly less spicy, but even that is a tad too spicy for me but the flavour profile is soooooo yum I can't stop eating the CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCHY PORK BELLY!!! I did find that both the purple rice and the white rice are too dry and the chow fun too oily. read more

This is gonna sound wild but I came just to get two orders of their hot and sour soup to go - I was sick over Thanksgiving and was finally starting to feel better, but really wanted soup. I was in the area and saw they had hot and sour soup for $4 and thought to myself, why not try it out? When I walked in it was pretty lively and I thought to myself, "wow, this is a cute spot!" I did really enjoy the soup! And the employees I talked to were nice. They told me it'd be a 15 minute wait but I think I only had to wait around 8-10 minutes (it flies by when you're on your phone, haha). Definitely want to come back to try more things! read more

Decent dim sum brunch Made a res as a large group to try out their dim sum brunch. Restaurant had cute asian inspired decor and service was friendly and accommodating. It's also conveniently located by Dupont so easy to meet up as a group. However, I found the food just ok. Dishes came out as they were made so not particularly photo op friendly if you care about that. We got an assortment of dishes: soup dumplings (liked these the best), har gao (can't go wrong w this one), chive and shrimp dumplings (ok), siu mai (so so but I've never really been a siu mai fan), char siu bao (decent but nothing special), spicy sichuan wontons (recommended by our server; the group liked this one), dan dan noodles (pretty good), scallions bubble pancake (it sounded really interesting but was just interestingly shaped), a few other dishes, and charcoal lava custard buns (the color was interesting, taste was just ok) to finish. Also ordered some tea to share which tasted great. We definitely did take advantage of the unlimited option as a large group so I think we got our money's worth but I much prefer the more authentic dim sum flavors at da hong pao. My wife and I enjoyed the dim sum brunch together. First off, the dining area is vibrant and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We arrived first so it was crazy by the end of our experience how packed it was and so lovely. The entire staff were very welcoming and seemed very happy to serve you. Onto the food: we tried about 65% of the menu. Of everything we ordered, only one dish we were not a fan of. The beef truffle pastry was just a weird combination for our palette. But the others were absolutely wonderful, and surprising how fast they brought out the food. I always enjoy a good beef chow fun; the pork belly and spare ribs were delightfully flavored; the pork soup dumplings and steamed shrimp dumplings were absolutely transcendent; the char siu bao (manapuas where I grew up) brought me back home. I enjoyed the flavor of the green beans but I wish they had a snap to them. The cherry on top was the charcoal custard bun. Makes me want to come back and just order that over and over. Thank you to our server, Kelvin, for the recommendation. Just some tips: they will add a gratuity charge. So be prepared. And, pace yourself. The food does come out fast. This is a restaurant by the renowned Peter Chang who opened some Michelin star restaurants. The restaurant has some Chinese decorations and designs on the wall and ceiling including some colorful lanterns. The food here excellently represents modern Sichuan cuisine. The Food: The Dan Dan noodles had a nice spicy kick to it and the noodles were very soft. This is a classic dish done right! The spices made this a perfectly delicous dish. This is a must order appetizer! The clay pot lion head meatball is basically one big tasty meatball served with savory sauce and bok choy. I would also recommend the delicious chicken lettuce cups! I enjoyed the nice crunch of the crispy shell that held the chicken, the chicken was perfectly seasoned, and the lettuce helped make this decadent dish seem healthy. I came here as part of a work event where as a team we tried their lunch prix fixe meal. I walked away sooo content. Almost every dish was incredible with respect to all senses (beautiful, fragrant, and tasty). We started with pork dumplings, vegetable dumplings, green beans, and a pancake. The pork dumplings were my favorite of the appetizers. They were soft, and paired well with the chili sauce. The veggie dumplings and green beans had a nice char and beautiful look. The dumplings were generously filled but the greens it was filled with were a bit overpowering for me. The green beans were beautifully roasted and tasted great - no notes. We moved onto the sesame noodles, which many of my colleagues described as spicy but they were SO good. Perfect texture, nice nutty aroma, and blended the sweet and spicy flavors nicely. We were then served fried eggplant and fried fish - both of which were AMAZING. I'm not usually a fan of eggplant but it was done really well. It was crispy and yet so soft when you bit into it. Similarly, the fried fish was flaky and had a healthy coating of batter. It didn't even have a fishy smell! Following those dishes, we were served three pepper chicken and shrimp fried rice. The chicken was the star of the show -- velvety, and flavorful. The peppers were distinct, adding great depth and texture. I'm not usually one for fried rice because it's usually too sweet and sticky for my taste, but the shrimp fried rice didn't have too much soy or oyster sauce and was nicely balanced. To finish, we had a small slice of matcha cake. My colleagues really enjoyed it as it was very creamy. To me, it was very cream cheese-y, which isn't a flavor I'm particularly fond of. Peking duck buns, wow, homerun. Tender duck, delicious sauce, pillowy bun. The double cooked pork was good, but very hot for this poor American. At many Chinese restaurants, they Americanize their heat scale, but not here, they're more traditional. That's fine, but warn your customers. I'm going to go ahead and say it.... ChangChang is the best Chinese food in DC. I can't begin to tell you how amazing the whole experience at ChangChang's was!!! The inside of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It's very sleek, modern and open. It's very refreshing inside with massive windows at the from of the restaurant that fill it with sunlight. Mostly filled with four long rows of booths but there is some options for sitting at tables. They also have a beautiful bar areas that blends in perfectly with the restaurant of the restaurant. The staff is beyond friendly, smiles everywhere and they are smooth but not rushed. Take some time to talk to them while you are there and ask thee for suggestions as well. The food is the real star of the show. Two absolute musts are the soup dumplings and Dan Dan noodles. I've never ordered a dish twice while at a restaurant but I absolutely loved the soup dumplings so much I had to order them again. They also have a great cocktail program serving some unique twist on classic cocktails that pair perfectly with the food. ChangChang is a welcome addition to the Washington DC Michelin guide. Frozen spoiled purple greasy disgusting sauce I should've known when I saw so many people in there, but I attention to the type of clientele that they I just knew they were busy figured they were open and could serve at 8:59 on a Sunday evening worst decision of my life. Terrible service. Food is good but not great. Came here for a celebration. Party of 9 as one friend couldn't make it last minute. We sat down at 1 PM. We received water after a few minutes but no server approached us to order drinks or food. After over 20 minutes of waiting one of us approached the hostess. She said she thought we were waiting for the 10th person. The hostess apologized for this miscommunication and sent over a server. We were immediately told that we could only order five items at a time. This was a bit tricky as we had several people in the party who had dietary restrictions and were hoping they could order separate items. The five item limit was reiterated so we ordered what we could for everyone to share. I'm not sure what the communication breakdown was but we had several issues with what we ordered and received. 1) We ordered vegetable dumplings and asked for 3 orders as it's 2 dumplings per order. We received a plate with 4 dumplings instead of 6. When we asked the food runner and waitress both seemed confused and just shrugged in response. 2) There are 3 kinds of noodles on the vegetarian menu. We asked for "Cantonese Veggie with Rice Noodles." We received 3 portions of "Dan Dan Noodles" instead. When we explained to our waitress that this was incorrect she said "Well we have several kinds of noodles so you have to be specific." So if it was not clear what we were asking for why did she not clarify this with us? The Dan Dan Noodles were just sitting on the table untouched because we did not order them. We asked if they could be taken in a box since it was a mistaken order and untouched. We were told that was not possible. Ironic considering their menu says they do not believe in food waste. I assume those noodles were thrown out. Maybe a staff member ate them? 3) We ordered "Charcoal Lava Custard Buns." The menu says they come in sets of 2. We asked for 5 portions as we had 9 people. The waitress said no, and we could only have one portion, 2 buns. Our party of 9 had to share 2 buns. But we saw the table next to us, party of 6, eating the buns and each person had a bun. She kept going to the kitchen to ask so I'm not sure what was happening. By the time they arrived half our party had paid their portion of the bill and left. None of us expected to still be sitting there at almost 4 PM. Especially because we were told the brunch service stops at 3. The final issue was paying the bill. Scanning the QR code allows you to pay online. We chose the split bill option and entered 9 for the number of people. Each person's portion was about $50. Three of us entered our credit card information and then received receipts that said "Recipt for $25." And the emailed receipt said "1/2 brunch entree - paid." We scanned the QR and it said "bill paid" and no longer had the option to enter any payment information. This was very confusing and we had to give the waitress a credit card to pay the remaining balance as the QR code was no longer working. Favorite items: - Beef chow fun: Flavorful noodles, tender beef, crispy vegetables. - Shrimp and chive pancake: Good size, crispy bottom, nice flavor. Least favorite items: - Crispy roast duck roll: Looked like a spring roll but there as only duck meat inside. No veggies/noodles/sauce inside. I don't believe the duck had any seasoning/marinade either. - Bubble scallion pancake: A bit difficult to share as you have to rip it apart. Not sure why one came deflated. Came to Chang Chang for their unlimited dim sun for a friends birthday brunch and ran into a lot of issues. First, they had limits on the number of plates a table could get which was understandable, but there were times where the limits did not make sense. For example an order of custard buns came with 1 and because we had ordered other food, our waitress told us we could only get one order of them but because we were 9 we could get 2 orders... so only 2 custard buns came to the table. The table next to us got a custard bun for everyone... In terms of the food, the food was good but not outstanding. The highlights were the har gow, shrimp and chive dumpling, and beef chow fun. The other stuff were fine or missed (like the pork bun did not excite me and was sadly a miss). Timing was also an issue here as it took asking about 4 times over the course of an hour for the har gow/shrimp dumplings. We also had issues with payment where it would randomly split payments by person into half which made it confusing. Our server also could've been friendlier throughout and timing was a bit rough overall Hoping Chang Chang can get a better handle on this. read more

I met a friend here for drinks and dinner the other night while I was in town visiting. Our server was very nice and gave great recommendations. I'm a big tea person so when she recommended the Magnolia Blossom Oolong tea I was very pleased. As far as cocktails I had the Ashes of Time and my friend had the Curse of Golden Flower. Both drinks were delicious and I would get again. Our server recommended us to get 1 bites, 1 small plates and then a main dish to split. I'm glad she did because we had plenty of food to share between us. We ordered the Cantonese Crispy Spring Rolls, Wuxi Sweet & Sour Chicken, and the Yangzhou Fried Rice. My favs were the fried rice and the sweet & sour chicken out of our dishes. Over the place is spacious and clean and not too loud where you can't hear the at your table. 3.5 stars, mostly because service was meh. Our server took forever to come to our table, even though it was not busy. And when they came, they seemed pretty disinterested in ensuring we were having a good experience. Felt like an IHOP service experience. Once we saw that 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, we then understood why she was so disinterested. Food was okay, not great. This is a great place for large groups and when your parents are visiting. My mom is a hot and sour soup connoisseur and she said this was the best she's ever had. Also, it's $4?! And HUGE. I could make a meal of one of their soups. Their duck soup is super comforting and filling. Most of the plates are meant for sharing. We got soups and two plates. The dragon eggplant is so good. We got the scallops/shrimp with snap peas and asparagus. It was delicious. Note: the dishes do not come with rice, you have to order it separately for &1.50 for each side. They have lots of wines by the glass and a great happy hour. read more
