Had a late lunch here recently whilein the area. A traditional Thai style interior and decor. We walked into a pretty empty restaurant and were not greeted. It took a few minutes for someone to acknowledge us and offer us a seat. We took a booth up front and a server came over, not very friendly but did wait on us. a large menu with an extensive list of offerings. I started with a seaweed salad, it was okay. A decent portion with sesame seeds and oil. The flavor was consistent and it served its purpose. Next I wanted some sashimi, so I ordered a few pieces and it was also pretty good. The portions ample, the flavor and freshness both good, and enjoyable. For my meal I opted for the number 61 Sizzling flounder, two filets served with a large mix of sauteed veggies. It had been a while so we went to Chang Thai last Sunday. We got there early so it wasn't busy at first but the tables were almost full by the time we finished. Our server was very accommodating. I couldn't decide between two chicken dishes, the Chang BBQ Chicken and the Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce so I asked for her recommendation. She said, "Ooh... those are completely different. But get the BBQ Chicken. It's a good portion." So that's what I ordered. When she brought it out, I was like, "Whoa! That's a lot!" I guess I underestimated what "a half chicken" meant. It was delicious and the meat came right off the bone but I could only eat a quarter of it. While I was eating, our server even brought me some of the peanut sauce they use for the Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce so I could try it. That was so thoughtful of her! It tasted great so now I know what I'm ordering next time. My husband ordered his usual, the Massaman curry. The portions are always generous here, and he enjoyed it as always. We had an event in the area and decided to stop in for dinner. The service was wonderful, but the food just wasn't that great. I ordered the mixed vegetables with chicken and my husband had the sizzling chicken breast entrée. There wasn't anything about either entrée that was sizzling. Our food was lukewarm at best. We were very disappointed. I still don't know why they called it sizzling chicken. The broccoli in my dish was cold in the middle. The sauce in the dishes was just OK. On this visit I wanted to try the Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce. This dish comes with broccoli, white rice, and a gyoza with Thai Chili Sauce. The chicken consists of chunks of white meat that is lightly battered, and then deep fried. I'm not a fan of peanut sauce so I ask for it on the side, and as it turned out that was a good call. The chicken was very tasty and nicely fried to a crunchy exterior. The gyoza was pork filled and was very flavorful, and was further enhanced by the excellent chili sauce. The broccoli was fresh and was tasty as well. The rice was plain, but some soy sauce helped. This was good eats in a pleasant environment with good service. Update 4/29/24 Still our goto place for Thai food. Got a light fare this time through as we weren't extremely hungry. Seated promptly as always in a clean restaurant. We started with cream cheese rolls, crispy, warm and yummy with a sweet dipping sauce. We moved to Thai wonton soup with chicken, delicious. And finally finished with the Thai chicken skewers. Service was on point and the food was awesome as usual. You really need to give these guys a try. Great Thai food CAN be found outside of big cities. This is a good place to start. read more

Stepped into this place on a rainy day and there was a good crowd of people dining, which is always a good sign! The menu has quite a few new dishes since I was here a few years ago. Lots of creative new dishes along w the regular Thai standards as well. Today I am having the tuna taki for appetizer and my entree is eggplant and veggies w pork and white rice. I love Thai eggplant, don't know how they make it but I can't seem to replicate it in my own kitchen. My Tuna Taki was nicely presented but not impressed w Ponzo sauce underneath it seemed a little watery. Tuna was just kissed on each side where I prefer a crunchy outer w rare inside but when you put on soy sauce, ginger slices and a dab of the wasabi its still yummy. Then came the huge entrees! I put an impressive dent in my eggplant, pork and veggies. Pork was exceptionally tender. Loved it! Waiters are quick and polite, a nice experience. Ate at Chang Thai over a year ago & son said battered chicken was very dry & difficult to eat. The inside looked disheveled, cluttered & not clean. A pan of dirty dishes sitting on a table the entire time in view of everyone in dining room. Had takeout with friends last night. Got Pad Thai- with shrimp. One and a half small pieces of overcooked, chewy shrimp. I did call to notify them. She said I should've taken a picture. Great little spot. I called to order takeout for lunch. I was hungry and in need of a treat-yourself-for-making-it-through-the-week kind of lunch. I ordered the spring rolls, the beef street noodles and the mango sticky rice. The person who answered the phone was polite but prompt and promised it would be ready in 20 mins. I showed up 20 mins later, and my meal prepared and packaged. The space was quaint with heavy woodwork but cluttered with the supply back stock. The service was prompt and without frills. I returne to my office to eat and was pleasantly surprised to find everything was still hot and fresh. The spring rolls were flavorful-crisp inside and out. The street noodles were delicious But not revolutionary. The flavors reminded me of an elevated lo mein. The sticky mango rice was my personal favorite. The perfectly-ripened, cold mango complimented the sweet, gooey rice. It was undoubtedly my favorite part of the meal. A solid find in Clemmons. I can't say enough about this restaurant and their amazing owners and staff. Located in a small strip mall next to a Food Lion Supermarket, with plenty of parking in front. From the moment you walk in you feel the love and family atmosphere. They seem to know almost all their customers by name. You are always seated immediately and drink order taken. They have a sit down counter also where you can watch the Sushi Chef at work and have a nice cold beer or Sake. The Sushi choices are amazing, you can even get a boat full for the table. You can't go wrong with any of their sushi. The menu also has many Thai specialties, soups, noodles and great appetizers. I love their Mongolian beef, Silver Noodles with choice of protein as well as their baked Dragon Roll. Start with an appetizer of Bang Bang Shrimp with its delicious spices that are not to spicy or their freshly made Crab Rangoon! Hidden gem in Clemmons! Went to lunch with some family and had some incredible Thai food. The service is excellent--our waiter seated us right away and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the entire meal. Shrimp tempura was phenomenal! All of the vegetables were fried perfectly. We ordered a scallop w/ mixed veggies and fried rice lunch (only $13!) and a Red Curry with chicken. Both were served hot and fresh, and both tasted amazing. The scallops were very delicious and tender, and the Red Curry had this perfect sweet and spicy balance that was to die for! I stopped at UPS and hunger hit me. Looking left I saw "Thai Cuisine & Sushi Bar" and turned. It's really a nice looking place inside, but outside looks like a hole in the wall... Huge Plus, the bathroom is clean. I love Thai food so I'm trying their Drunken Noodles. Not Pad Thai which is usually my go to. Of course I begin with Spring Rolls with a plum sauce to heat up with Sriracha. Oh yeah... Yummy. Oh, the Drunken Noodles are so good. Fresh vegetables with pineapple and tomatoes. The soup needs sriracha and the beef was tender and delicious. I guess I could have come earlier as I came at the end of lunch, aka closing time. The food is yummy. Chang Thai stays quite busy, so busy that I passed on eating here several times in the last year because of the long line of waiting patrons. But I finally managed to drop in at a time when the restaurant wasn't overrun with diners, and thus I had my first meal here in at least a year or two (if not more). There may not have been a queue in the lobby, but the restaurant still had several visitors and many to-go orders being processed during my visit. Staff members were continuously on the run, and yet they still found time to attend to my needs and requests. I began with an order of crab packages, tasty little bundles of wonton filled with crab meat, cream cheese and such. And then the cool evening seemed well suited for soup, so I chose a bowl of tom yum: warming and flavorful. It might be a tad bit more convenient if the pieces of onion and tomato were chopped a wee bit smaller so they'd fit in the spoon, but otherwise the dish was a delight. In brief, Chang Thai was as good as I'd remembered, and that's also why it can be difficult to get a seat in there. The community knows about the quality and value of this place. I should plan to drop in more frequently... especially if I can figure out when to beat the crowds! read more

About my favorite Thai restaurant in the Winston-Salem area. Staff is always so pleasant and super attentive. Wait staff routinely check in with you to see how satisfied you are. During the dining experience. Extremely polite, hardworking and efficient staff. The wood decor in Asian style makes this play stand out, so that one could think they're in Thailand. An accident on I40 caused a huge backup that changed our dinner plans and we ended up at Chang Thai. Nicely appointed and situated in a shopping center near Tanglewood park. Clean and a good health score. This place is always great. Fantastic service. The best Thai sauces. The seafood selections are always fresh and cooked properly. Gotta say, for ordering takeout from a Thai/Sushi combo restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised! It hasn't been my experience that restaurants that do an Asian fusion tend to do any particular one thing well because their focus becomes broad. Not the case here though. I ordered three different sushi rolls, lobster pot, steak and mango sticky rice for dessert. The sushi was very good! While the lobster and steak don't strike me as Thai-centric, they were tasty given the price point and offerings. I also enjoyed that my mango sticky rice sealed the sweet sauce in a separate container for me to pour on in my convenience instead of mucking up the container's take-out bag. Staff was very friendly and we were seated immediately. Try to arrive early before you're starving because towards the end of our dinner we saw a decent amount of people waiting at the front. Was a tad bit loud but that's the I my thing even slightly negative I have to say about the place. Very large menu with lots of options, I had a hard time choosing but ended up going with the roasted half chicken. Wow, was it juicy inside with crispy skin still! Our server kept our glasses full and promptly brought our food when it was ready. The restaurant is small but plenty of room and clean. We started off with some appetizers including Tuna Tataki, Crab Package and Thai Spring rolls. All were great and gone in no time! This is a gem in Clemmons, hidden away in a strip with Harris Teeter , near Tanglewood park. On my top 5 list for sure. Local family owned. They are always hustling here, right now during COVID , they are all paper products even if you dine in. I'll admit I do kinda miss real plates and silverware here as some things just require it. So I hope at some point they go back to it. They have a decent wine list and some basic cocktails , cute little bar where you can watch the sushi maker and have your meal. We all got a different red wine, me Cabernet, then a red blend and a merlot. All pretty good, with a good pour! Ordered the summer rolls first, these are the un spring roll, not fried, made with rice paper. Filled with noodles, carrots, cucumbers, basil and cilantro, with a big fat shrimp. Plum sauce as your dipper. Nice and fresh tasting, this cold, hence summer roll, love the basil and cilantro combo, and crunchy. Love this . The sauce adds a bit of sweetness. I love their Tom yum soup. This is warm comfort food in a bowl. Tons of veggies in the amazing broth, which is kinda sweet and sour and a little spicy. The cilantro again comes out strong. You can add a protein or keep veggie. I love how they keep the veggies chunky. I get this every time. Perfect deliciousness. My friends got the mixed vegetables with chicken, which again tons of veggies, nice light brown sauce. Served with rice. Steaming hot , great dish. I have a weird craving when I come here for their sticky white rice with soy sauce and they entertain me on this, with a dish of yum rice, Also got the tuna tataki, which is a beautiful piece of tuna, perfectly rare, with ponzu, and delicious wasabi and ginger. Love this stuff. Great presentation too on a bed of crispy noodles. Not very Thai was our dessert but it was really good! Lemon cake, nice shareable slice, of this moist, white cake sugar topped, filled with a lovely lemon cream, not too tart, I'm sure this was bought somewhere like Sam's club , but it was the perfect end to a always great meal at Chang Thai. Came here for Sunday night dinner and it was busy(a good sign!), but we were sat right away and our order was taken very quickly. We started off with a spicy tuna crunch roll and the Thai spring rolls. The sushi roll wasn't as crispy as I thought it would be, but it was really good (we will definitely be back to try out more of their sushi!). The spring rolls were good, but not any different than your usual spring roll. We are from NY where the pad Thai usually more savory/spicy whereas and the pad Thai down in NC is more sweet/sour different so we are always looking for pad Thai more like home. The pad Thai here is definitely more sweet/sour but they let us add some spice to it and while it wasn't like home, it was good! (And we'd get it again!) We also got the drunken noodles. I'm usually pretty sensitive to spice and was surprised when this dish didn't have much spice at all (since the description said spicy), but I asked for a side of the chili sauce and added my own level of spice to it.
