The food is as authentic as it gets with some clever new dishes in the fusion section. Can't say enough good things about this new find in the Lafayette square international district. I loved that the menu wasn't overwhelming and how friendly the staff was. We met the owners son and he recommended some great combinations for us to try. I had Goat Beets and chicken biyari. Both great options! You get plenty of basmati rice and can choose between chapati bread or naan. My only gripe was that my meats were skimpy. I had two small pieces of chicken and my goat was a bit fatty. I did leave me wishing I had chosen a combo with chunks of meat instead of on the bone. I also tried a mango lassi. Delicious! It's typically eaten as a dessert but I sipped mine throughout my meal to "cleanse my palette". The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and has an upscale cafeteria feel. This has been a family favorite for the past couple of years! We love chapati, and the staff recognizes our family every time we go. We spend hours here - we've had Christmas parties, birthday parties, and congrats for just about anything parties. They have traditional table games and ping pong, and you get to relax in the easy, Eastern sense of time if you want. (However, food always shows up spit-spot fast!). The chai is wicked strong, and the food is family style and fabulous. It's a solid mix of India and Pakistan, and the family is so eager to explain any dish. Tip: Definitely ask re: whether or not a meat dish will be on-bone or boneless, however. Please go to Chapati. You won't be disappointed. We ordered several dishes to try (samosas, malai kofta, palak paneer, aloo tarkari, paneer tikka masala, chicken tikka masala plus rice and naan). We ordered a variety to try as we were considering to cater Chapati for an event. The samosas were super bland. I was hoping the other dishes would make up for the samosas but all the dishes were greasy and also lacked flavor. The paneer dishes barely had paneer. The rice looked and tasted undercooked. The naan was fluffy but also undercooked and difficult to chew. Overall, it was a pretty terrible experience and we threw most of the food away. read more

What a wonderful place for Pakistani cuisine! Not busy on a Sunday night, so we got extra special treatment from the cook's son who explained the menu carefully to us. My friend and I decided we'd get one of the four yogurt chaats as an appetizer. We opted for the aloo chaat with potato cakes and chickpeas. A great choice...the mixture of hot and cold and crunchy and soft was great! For the entree, we got beef behari (spiced halal beef kabobs) which was so tender it literally (and I'm a wordsmith, so I'm NOT exaggerating) melts in your mouth. Per my request, it was made pretty spicy, and went well with the green sauces served with it. This was my favorite of all the items. I highly recommend it. The other entree was a "combo" where we selected two of the "gourmet dishes"--buttered chicken (which actually contained no butter--excellently done) and goat beets. The beets were a gamble item that I ordered and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome! Also rather spicy, but I like that. Finally, the chapati (bread without yeast) was incredible. The owner brought us a sample of the Arabian smoothie with acai berries and strawberries and if we weren't stuffed, we definitely would have gotten one as it was one of the best smoothies I've ever tasted! This is my first Yelp review and this place absolutely deserves the honor of receiving it. I've been coming here occasionally for over a year now. We live on the opposite side of town, but my boyfriend and I will make the drive in a heartbeat if we're craving Indian/Pakistani food. Each dish is delicious in its own right; I've tried most things and you can't go wrong, especially with the killer combos they offer. While the samosas are fantastic, the Pakora is where it's really at. Perfectly seasoned and great to share with a group. I recently went back in March for my birthday and I couldn't have received better service! They even gave me a free Pakistani ice cream dessert (that I totally forget the name of) on the house. My boyfriend spent some time in India and said this is the only place he's found where you get REAL AND AUTHENTIC Indian/Pakistani cuisine. I haven't snapped any pictures, but the food is plated and served nicely without too many frills. They have vegan and vegetarian options, as well as delicious chicken and goat dishes. The rice and chapati are cooked perfectly and make great accompaniments to any dish, so make sure to get those. Also, NEVER leave without getting a Mango Lassi. You would be a fool not to enjoy the deliciousness it brings to your mouth. My only complaint? They're on the opposite side of town! But I will always make the drive to come here. It's always good to try something new. Take my review with a grain of salt - I make this food at home - so I am highly critical when I go out. First off - what I like - I love the fusion ideas & am really looking forward to trying those when we visit in the future. My overall take - this is good BUT there are places in the neighborhood of 5 miles or so away that do the gourmet meals better (what we decided to try). My biggest complaint was - greasy! There was a layer of oil on top of my dal and I am not sure why, this is something I am not used to when I eat any dal items. The Goat was probably my favorite dish because it was well prepared. The lamb kabob was a typical item found at most mediterranean restaurants - it was the seasoned ground meat style. It tasted as expected and again no complaints with it either. My 2nd criticism, service - it wasn't horrible but our waiter was very distracted and never ended up bringing me a sample I asked for at the beginning of our meal (or several times after). What he did well - made suggestions, knew the menu, was kind when giving attention, apologized for the delay in getting our food to us. Small drinks: I would suggest to the owners to think about offering larger sizes for drinks, water cups, chai tea priced at various sizes... I might change my review after trying the fusion items but for the gourmet specialties I would say go somewhere else for those items (specifically if you tend to be more vegetarian)... I would name a favorite or two but you can look through my profile if you would like to know where a favorite in this area. Again, I will update after I have gone back. Suggestions of good items: goat karahi, lamb kabob, chai tea (small and takes a while to make so order with food - order 2 if you like a 8-12oz size). I've heard a lot about this place, but was hesitant cause there's no real authentic Pakistani/Indian experience I've had traveling the US. As soon as you walk in you're blessed with the most delicious smells and the warmest welcome! I've never seen a blend of styles that Chapati has. Hip modern environment with unique art on the wall. They also play some of the best music from Pakistani, Indian, Hip-hop, and other international sounds. On top of all that they have carrom board, it simply took me back to my child hood memories! The first impression is so great you don't expect it to be topped, but then once you receive the service you're simply proud about how some people are so dedicated to quality and pure attention. The guy at the counter explained all details, cook preparation, whats unique, and what's authentic. His understanding and delivery of the menu had true passion and love. I decided to go with Samosas, Mango lasi, and a butter chicken and eggplant Masala combo. Everything came steaming with excellent presentation. Every bite was decadent with the perfect amount of spicing and textures. I literally was shocked at how good this Pakistani place is in the middle of Indiana. Come to find out the owners mothers recipes and cook styles are in effect, which only bring back memories of the motherland. Came here to check out the hype on yelp but it didn't live up to the expectations, some dishes were a hit and others were miss. We liked the aloo chat - it was quite different with lots of soft pakoris dipped in thin curd curry and sweet chutney.. it only had one small potato patty. Pani Puri wasn't great, the pani tasted more like a chutney - they also come with Chana filling but no potato :( For mains we ordered malai kofta which was phenomenal, came with a very fragrant and tasty rice. My partner ordered butter chicken and chilli chicken combo which was not upto par. Butter chicken was a little dry with no creamy gravy which we were hoping. Chilli chicken was average. We tried Channa parantha and Channa was a little and for our taste, I topped it up with some pani Puri tangy water and it hit the spot. Paranthas were well done and oh yes we loved the soft chapatis (tortilla type bread) so rare to find in restaurants. The place has a very casual feel with table tennis and carrom boards for patrons. The table tennis bats were lacking any rubber on them so that was a little disappointing. Ambience is very spacious welcoming and great for families. We finished off with falooda and chai. Well, what REALLY happened to my previous review??? I've visited this place at least 3 or 4 times and I KNOW I've written about the food, service and ambiance! Any who! I love the relaxed feel of this restaurant as well as the always friendly service. When you step inside, grab a menu and head to the counter to place your order with the friendly person at the register. I've been here several times, each time someone different was at the counter and they have ALWAYS been friendly and happy to explain the dishes. I always order the same dish: Butter chicken/Chicken Tikka combo and have never been disappointed! The orders are cooked to order, so it's not fast food but it is good food. The portions are enough for 2 meals for me. There's a To-Go station near the counter for you to bag up your leftovers without a problem. On my last visit I remember sampling the Mango Lassi from a previous Yelp event and ordered some to drink while I waited on my order. IT WAS DELICIOUS and very filling!
