Some ordered mild and it was also wonderful. Flavorful and authentic. The naan was fresh and wonderful. Fried cauliflower I will order again! This will be our go to Indian restaurant. read more

The chicken tikka masala was good. I don't recommend going above a medium on the spice level. I like spicy food and going above a medium might have been too spicy. Like some other Indian restaurants, they provide a large/shareable portion and you spoon it out yourself. The service was below average. Even though the server was only waiting on one other table, he never checked on me after taking my order. I had to go get him to get my check when I was finished. The bathroom could have been in better shape. There were cleaning supplies on the sink, the paper towel dispensers were broken, and there was an industrial dehumidifier running....Apparently, they have some sort of moisture problem in there. I came here for lunch at noon and there was only one table of customers in the whole restaurant. I'm not sure why the place was so empty, but price might be a factor. My lunch bill of chicken tikka masala and a Coke was $21 plus tip. That's a steep price for a lunch. They serve soda per can too so there aren't free refills. read more

Ate here years ago when they first opened and came back to try their Thursday evening buffet. Service was great, and everyone was very nice. Lots of options, but wish the food was warmer. The food was okay, not the best Indian buffet I've had. It was good for $20, but probably would not crave it. Lots of seating inside, and they make fresh dosa. I've been to Bawarchi in Indianapolis a few times now and have tried a good mix of their dishes. The place has plenty of seating and the service has always been fast. The Vijayawada Chicken 65 Biryani was really good. It has great flavor, though the chicken quantity felt a bit less compared to the rice. Their salt & sweet lime soda was also nice and refreshing. On another visit, we tried both the veg and non-veg thalis. They were decent, not amazing, but good enough. The portions were huge. Honestly, they could reduce the biryani rice in the thalis and just offer refills to avoid food waste. My absolute favorite here is the juicy chicken mandi. I've tried mandi at a few places in the US, and this is one of the best I've had. The chicken is flavorful, the portion is great, and the rice is super aromatic. It comes with yogurt sauce, curry sauce, mayo, and veggies. It's only available on weekends, but it's definitely worth it. Overall, solid service and some standout dishes. This place was incredible! They have a huge space inside and we were seated quickly. I ordered a paneer tikka masala and a mango lassi. The curry came with SO much food - there were plenty of leftovers to take home! The paneer was delicious and the curry was super flavorful. The mango lassi was creamy and delicious. We ordered the famous dosa 70 and it was so amazing and a great experience for our first time there! I can't wait to bring more people here to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. The Gobi 65 is okay, I would prefer it not fried. Lamb pepper roast is good, but watch it, it's spicy like it states ! I love the navratan korma here and my husband enjoyed the goat biryani. For desert we had the Falooda (rose) and what a delight ! Watch out for a surprise through your straw! Definitely recommend! Dishes are perfect portion sizes and temperature. This place is great! I stopped in for an early supper on a Wednesday while traveling for work, and I'm happy that I did. I will say that the rather large space was basically emtpy and I was the only customer, but I saw DoorDash orders flying out the door. With that said, the place was clean, bright, and my waiter was very freindly. I ordered the smosas to start, and they were very tasty. I also ordered a mango lassi and enjoyed it as well. For my entree I went with the Veg Dum Biryani. My waiter warned me that it was spicy, but I went ahead anyway. As advertised, it was SPICY, but also delicious. The protion was very large and after the samosas I was not able to finish it. Overall a good experience, and I'll be back whenever I'm in Indy. read more

Alright! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion of the dinner entrees here. The Dal Makhani ($13.99) was, Chana Palak ($13.99), and Paneer Tikka Masala ($15.49) were all medium spicy as ordered - yes, actually legitimately medium spicy. At some Indian restaurants, "medium spicy" equates to "not spicy" to the cooks, but thankfully not here. Although the Garlic Naan ($4.99) seems all-the-money, so to speak - it is spot-on fresh and well-topped. The Basmati Rice (complimentary per entree) was fine and as expected. Service was quite attentive and pleasant, and the restaurant itself and cups, plates, silverware, etc. were very clean. My *main criticism* involves the severe lack of ambiance awareness by the management. Worst of all is the set of way-too-bright ring LED light fixtures blazing away high up in the middle of the restaurant. A truly awful design decision by the management - you cannot look up at them for more than a second without feeling like you're burning your eyes out. Also, there were no less than 8 televisions playing SpongeBob Squarepants (on mute) and Shark Tank was on the main bar TV - with the sound actually on and blasting through the restaurant. Needless to say - a pretty bad place to bring a date, if you're looking to do so. As the light fixtures are set now, you actually need sunglasses if you were to choose to dine in. Also, their booths are a bit tight - and I am not a big person. I personally can't stand booths - except for the semi-circular variety you might see at a classic supper club. Those are fine. But conventional 90-degree booths are a way for restaurants to jam in as many customers regardless of comfort... and there is no standard for the pitch and depth of booths. read more

Had a great time with a group of friends here for Sunday lunch. Everyone working here were friendly and nice. Walking in, there is no one greeting you at the entrance, so we walked right, and there is a large hall there - I think that's just for large group reservations. So we walked left, and there is another door where the restaurant is, and there were people there to help us find seats, etc. Masala Lollipop chicken: This one wasn't quite what I was expecting as a "street food" they described. It was good, but I probably won't order it again. I thought it tasted more like gochujang based flavor than masala, and there was a LOT of sauce, so the chicken wasn't as crispy as it could have been. But this is the first time I've tried this dish and I have no point of comparison. Goat curry: I think it was the curry that we got? It might have been the tikka masala. I can't believe I don't remember what we got. It was goat. And it was good. Great! Very yummy. Thinking back, I think it was more the tikka masala than the curry. Would I go back? absolutely. Wow! This was a delicious experience and already has me plotting my return visit. I've had this spot bookmarked for quite some time based on the fabulous photos on their yelp page. I was craving a dosa and this one did not disappoint. They had at least 10 different different dosa options on the menu -all served with three fabulous dipping sauces. I opted for a potato version that was packed with flavor. The dosa was nearly 18 inches long and so fun to eat. I also ordered the Papadam appetizer that essentially Indian nachos. The waitress described it that way, and I thought it was a good way to understand the dish. It was covered with chopped onion, peanuts, cilantro, and sauce. A party in the mouth! I also enjoyed my chai tea and my dining mate had the chicken tikka masala and a mango lassi. I can't wait to return and work my way through the menu! They have several offerings that you can't find elsewhere. For example, the desert menu had at least six different offerings. The space is clean and quite spacious. They have a bakery counter at the front with some fun treasures that you can take home. The service was a little hit or miss but otherwise a great experience. read more

I'm half-Indian so I feel like that gives me some cred when I say that this is my new favorite Indian place in Indianapolis. The Biryani is AMAZING. *And* they have dosa, which is also great. I've eaten in and taken out, and both times it has been efficient and easy (and when there's a wait like on Sunday afternoons, they've let me know!). The spice level is true to India (I.e. not Midwestern hot), which is also a plus. Overall, though it's a bit of a drive for me to get there, it's still definitely worth it. Having tried this restaurant in one of their other locations in California, I knew what to expect. However, I found the dishes to be much spicier, even when I got medium spice level. Of the masala dosa, eggplant curry, and Bawarchi gobi fry, the gobi was the favorite. The sesame seeds in the batter gave it a unique taste and crunch. The dosa was dry and the chutneys and sambar weren't very fresh. Ordered online, and when I arrived at the pickup time it took an additional 20 minutes to get the food. Bawarchi is located in an end store front off of 96th Street with outside seating available in good weather. Parking is free and restaurant is on one level-making it accessible. There are tables and booths available. It looked like Bawarchi was working on alcohol license. Everything was clean and bright with large windows. A large TV over the bar was playing Asian Indian music videos which was interesting and pleasant. We ordered vegetable Korma, vegetable samosas, garlic naan, hot chai, mango Lassi and masala dosa. Bawarchi offers plenty of meat and meatless options--we are omnivorous and happened to go meatless today. My mango lassi was so thick that the straw did not move. That was a good omen. Samosas came out hot and crispy with a bright, fresh mint chutney. The garlic naan was generous and crispy. Husband loved the Korma which came with rice. Spiced well with just enough heat. My Masala Dosa was large and came with 4 chutneys-- all apparently freshly made: tomato, coconut, ginger, and a roasted chutney. The prices are very reasonable especially when specialties like dosa are on the menu. We were offered 5% off for paying with cash. BTW, dosas are dine in only--these do not travel well and must be made fresh. A real South Indian treat. This is coming from a white midwesterner who was fed fresh dosas by a dear Indian friend. Bawarchi has been open since December 2022. This place is definitely worth visiting! read more

Loved their dosa with all the varieties of chutneys. Dosa crispness was on point. Serving portion was perfect too. Malai Kofta and both bread were just as delicious. Sambhar was a bit on sweeter side but I am unsure on what regional recipe they follow and that could mean it is supposed to be bit sweet. Mango lassi was like a thick shake and I just loved it. Could have enjoyed a glass more had any room been left after trying all the yum food. Definitely returning to enjoy more of the menu. We were there on religious holiday of Shivratri and they were so kind to serve a small complimentary dessert (sheera) to all the guests dining in that day. That was very touching to me. A little kindness appreciation goes a long way. Kudos to whoever on their team thought of this. We have done take out from here several times, and the food has always been average. One Friday night we thought let's actually go eat there and see if it makes a difference...well, it didn't. Upon walking in, there was a customer waiting for his food, and an employee who was standing there chatting away with someone else. She noticed us, but didn't ask us for a table, so my husband had to approach her. We asked her for a highchair, and she never brings it to us. We were sat down near a large party and it was cramped. We tried to ask for another table but couldn't get her attention. Fast forward, we sat there for 20 minutes and no one ever came to ask us for water, highchair never came etc. so we just walked out. The problem with Indian restaurants in this area is the service is lacking everywhere! We've had Bawarchi in Ohio prior to ordering from here but this location is a joke! read more

I enjoyed trying this new Indian spot. They have a diverse menu and I look forward to trying more things. I got the Navratan Korma which I hadn't heard of before and I really enjoyed it. It was sort of sweet and savory and had a mix of vegetables and paneer. They have a full bar and ample parking. Like many Indian restaurants, they offer a 5% discount for paying with cash. It seems like there are two entrances to the restaurant when you walk up and it seems a little odd but it's all one place. The service was good. You guys. I went from Tampa (has Indian food) to Holland Michigan (no Indian food and no seasonings to be found in any restaurant at all) to the northern Indianapolis suburbs and baby! I was so excited to get me some butter chicken and naan. I'm Indian food nieve so we also tried this other dish that I forgot what it's called. Here's a short back story. My husband is from Costa Rica but not the seasoned Costa Rica. He is not food adventurous. This was his first visit to an Indian restaurant. His review: 0/10. We do NOT take his opinions into consideration. This man was raised without seasoning and it shows. No big flavors for him. My butter chicken and garlic naan were absolutely perfect. Next time I might branch out and try something else. I will have to Google their menu because there really isn't a whole lot of explanation to the dishes, and that's fine. The service was wonderful. They were very patient with my questions. The restaurant appeared to be very clean. There is a great to go set up so it looks like you can grab takeout efficiently. That's also a plus for me because I know next time that's what I'll have to do on the way to take my husband to a drive through. Lol. I'm surprised that on a Sunday afternoon after church that there was not more of a crowd. I feel like this spot is a missed opportunity to get some really great food! read more

Came here after a friend recommended it. Everything we ordered was pretty good. They have a rental space that holds about 120-150? They have quite a few employees to help serve. We ordered mango lassi which was very good. It was the perfect tangy and sweet combo and cold. We wanted to order the papdi chaat but they didn't have it today. We got the samosa chaat instead. It came with all the dressings. The samosa is in pieces and not 1 big samosa. The chicken tikka biryani was pretty good. The chicken was at the bottom so be sure to dig for it. The tandoori mixed grill was good except there was some confusion on what all was in it. It doesn't state it in the menu but there was also a lobster tail and paneer in it. That was a nice surprise but I think should definitely be in the menu. I almost forgot the chilli chicken. It was spicy and gave an indo Chinese flavor. There were only 3 of us but enough food for about 5. The raita was watery as it seems to always be at restaurants. Would return and recommend. read more

The food, service, and people are just wonderful. The food is actually just the best and offers an authentic flavor. Every bite is a burst full of flavor and spices and the lamb is so tender and delicate. I absolutely loved the food, some of the best Indian food I have ever had. This spot is a hit or a miss. It depends on if you come on a good day or not. Service is usually lacking but food makes up for it each time. On busy days pick up orders can be a nightmare so order in advance. Food and drinks are some of the best in town. Their goat dishes are my usual favorite. I wish I had read the previous reviewers comments about Bawarchi's spice levels, so be warned--- I ordered the chicken biryani and also the goat curry and designated them to be prepared MILD with a bit of Medium. I just didn't want it to be without any heat but what was prepared turned out to be HOT as compared to other great Indian spots in town. For those who enjoy the intense spice, good on you. But for me, it was a barrier that I could not get over. On the plus side, and aside from the heat, the flavors are very nice. The chicken biryani was prepared with whole pieces of chicken unlike the typical overdone small pieces added to most biryanis in town. The portion was also generous. I'll try them again and make sure that I emphasize MILD MILD. read more
