It's just a language barrier but rarely is that a problem though. They try to up charge you and get you to get a lot of food just ask questions about how big the portion sizes are. Indian/Pakistani cuisine at its finest. What I really like about this place is that you can make combo meals for a small upcharge. This way you can try two dishes, especially if you are not sure what you want. Also the staff is very helpful as far as recomming things if you are totally lost, like I usually am. They will also give you nice chilled bottles of water, if that's your drink of choice. I can definitely see why the reviews are so good on this business! When I moved to Indianapolis 3 years ago i had such a hard time finding an amazing Indian restaurant (I was pretty spoiled in Ohio) and I can't say this was my "favorite" but compared to all the Indian places around here this is the best one yet! From the atmosphere of the restaurant to the food..you feel like you're in Pakistan! The decor is amazing! They have Indian songs playing, a carom board it's like you're right at home. There are only a few reasons I'm sad we moved away from the Westsiiiiiide. Chapati is one of those reasons. Sigh. Tucked away in the corner of the plaza just south of 52nd and Lafayette, Chapati is worth seeking out. The food is fresh and authentic (Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern), the staff is helpful and friendly, and the space is clean and fun. Upon entering, we noted a ping-pong table and a few Carrom tables. We were greeted and chose a table and encouraged to look over a menu before ordering at the counter. I LOVED that the menu was broken down by dishes with meat, vegetarian dishes, and vegan dishes -- it made ordering easy...well, until you had to PICK what delicious meal to get. Luckily, they offer half-and-half combos as well, so you can get a little of 2 things instead. I would also suggest coming with a group so you can share and try a bunch of other things. After ordering and paying at the counter, take a seat or spend a little time gaming. The food comes out in due time and is TOTALLY worth the wait. Everything we had was absolutely delicious -- from the Samosas and Aloo Chaat (Vegetarian) to start to the Mango Lassi... it was amazing. I would go back for the Palak Paneer and Bhindi any day of the week -- but also really want to try ALL the things! The food is amazing. My favorite dish to get from here is the Beef Bahari with an edition of Naan. The samosas are big. The first time I had a samosa, I had no clue that the samosa was made from potato. Entering the restaurant is always a nice experience. There is music playing in the background and the area is decorated with games you can play with a friend while waiting for food. The service is nice and the people that work there are responsive. I came here for a low-key Yelp event a few weeks back. This isn't a place I would have tried on my own, so I'm glad that Yelp opened my eyes to it. Fairly large space with tables lending themselves to groups. Order at the counter, grab water from the water pitcher and wait on your food to be freshly prepared and brought out. We had a group of people ordered at different times, but the preparation seemed a little slower to me than it should have been. Fortunately there were a lot of us and we chatted until the food came out. I was happy with my dish, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I wish the menu was a little more descriptive, and I'm sure the friendly staff behind the counter would have been happy to have explained what I was getting, but I thought I knew and ordered like I had a clue what I was doing. It doesn't even seem like the same restaurant. The first experience was simply amazing. But now... The chicken in our biryani was old and dry. The flavor was there because of the spices but the texture and consistency were horrible. The cheese naan was just gross too. We asked for spicy, but our food was still on the mild side (for my taste, anyway). The pani puri (my first experience with this!) was fun and tasty - one of those interactive play-with-your-food dishes that my son would love. The paneer tikka masala was maybe my favorite dish flavorwise. The long-grain basmati rice is well prepared and mixed with shaved carrot for a pretty splash of color. The stewed goat was flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the butter chicken was good as well. All in all, a great introduction to Pakistani/Indian food if you're willing to try something new. Prices seemed a tiny bit steep though - with two entrees, a chaat, a can of soda and tip, I dropped almost $50 here on lunch for two. And we took quite a bit of food home. The only thing I could taste was the oil and staleness. Used to taste way better but quality seems to have deteriorated significantly.

The atmosphere here is really great, it has a new-crisp clean look. My partner and I stopped in with his young son. They were able to play a game while we waited & the staff was very energetic and helpful. Shifa, our server, was extremely kind and checked on us several times. The food was also really good. We stopped here on our way back to Louisville from Chicago - close to the highway. We ordered goat kadai, basmati rice, naan, and kulfi. I was a bit surprised that the kadai didn't come with either rice or naan (how can you eat a kadai by itself?). The kadai and rice were good. The kulfi was homemade and tasted good, but would have been even better without the red syrup. The naan was really soft! The plates they give you to eat on were a bit small. The butter chicken!!! It is so so good. I ordered Butter Chicken, Veggie Biryani, rice, and garlic naan as a carry out. This was plenty of food for two people + 3-4 servings of leftovers. Had a good first experience at Chapati off Lafayette Street. The real plus for me was the fact that Bollywood movies and songs played in the restaurant while we ate. In other words- great vibes. The Butter Chicken is sooooo TASTY. I don't know how I have lived without it for 24 years lol. The staff is helpful in providing descriptions of the meals and recommendations. For one meal it's about $12-15 and its extremely filling. I was able to speak to one of the owners and he let me know that they had a sister restaurant in the same building! It's called Shani's Secret Chicken and it is in what looks like a cabinet/cupboard but is actually an entirely different restaurant. Chapati has been on my list for a while now, after a recommendation from Yelp-Queen Britt! I'd heard about the unique decor, amazing food, and personalized service . . . and at a recent Yelp/WFYI event I was able to hear from one of the owners and sample the food and I was sold! I popped in for a late lunch on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised to have the place to myself. The owner was there and was able to talk me through the menu options (warning: its a huge menu!). Everything looked delicious! I went with a beef dish, and he mentioned that the texture of their meat was very different because of the preparation, and he was NOT KIDDING. It was amazing. It melted in my mouth. We've been trying different Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants lately and decided to give chapati a try! We really enjoyed it! We got take out but the vibe of the restaurant was really chill! Definitely seems like it would be a cool place to chill and enjoy some good food with friends. We noticed that the menu seems to be a bit more concise with specific dishes rather than curries and success offered with the protein of your choice. It was a nice change of pace and gave us a feeling that the dishes were planned out more deliberately. One of our go to favorite dishes is malai kofta and there's did not disappoint. Loved it! I tried the mango lassi at a Yelp event (fermented funk) & really wanted to visit Chapati but hadn't made it out there yet. Today I couldn't stop thinking about that mango lassi, this many months later, so I went there to pick one up and get dinner as well. The mango lassi was even more delicious than I had remembered. I could have had three all by myself! One thing I love is that you can combine two entrees - as I often have a hard time choosing just one... and I get to try more of the food! Each entree was full of flavor (& we got the lowest spice level). In addition, we ordered parathas and they taste homemade and are quite large! I definitely recommend adding this to your meal- they are wonderful. The chapatis were also delicious (as they should be based on the name of the restaurant!). Pricing was great- I especially love how they price the combos. The service was excellent. I was welcomed at the door, not just at the counter. They answered all my questions thoroughly and made suggestions. I also noticed they were going around checking on customers in the restaurant even though it's counter service. They had all the things out and ready if you need to take left overs home and they have water and glasses out for self service. I got my food to go but I loved the dishes they served the food on for the other guests. The space is super cute and has some cool cultural pieces. This is definitely a place I'll revisit!
