What a complete joke of a business. I made an appointment for 1:30 for a simple oil change. I arrived on time. They took my keys. I told them I would be waiting and they promised it would be done within one hour. At one hour they had yet to take the car back. I could see it in the parking lot. Then after one hour and 45 minutes I walked up and asked what's the status and he said he would have to check. The man who is vaping at the front desk comes back to tell me oh they haven't started it. It'll be about 20 minutes and I told him no thank you I will just take it with me. While waiting for the vaping front desk person to come back I noticed they have a list that says "pick list" on the desk that customers can see. It says under it only "my nose". Then as I'm just waiting to leave the supposed, Manager comes out to apologize does not offer anything other than his apology and I tell him that is worthless to me. I just wasted two hours sitting in your waiting room for absolutely no reason. This place is terrible. I will never return read more

At the end of our week long road trip in our 2012 Corvette Grand Sport, our right rear tires went from 23psi to flat in a very few minutes. We were fortunate to be able to seek out a local place to assist. We requested to have the tire looked at and plugged if possible; just our luck it was a large bolt on the juncture of the running space and the side wall, making it not repairable. But this wonderful gentleman said, have a person at our warehouse and I will call and have them bring back the tire, take your car in as soon as it arrives and get you on the road. I'm not someone who frequently leaves bad reviews-- you can look at the one's I've left in the past for yourself (all 5-star reviews). So I do not do this lightly. 20K miles ago/2 years ago, I spent $6K on my 2007 Prius, replacing everything that could possibly need to be replaced for a 15 year old car with slightly over 100K miles. I did not mention this to Chapel Hill Tire when I dropped it off for a diagnosis of a dash warning light, and a full synthetic oil change. They came back with $3,030 worth of work they "highly recommended" I get done-- most of which could not possibly have needed to be done, as they were a part of that overhaul 2 years ago. I asked if those were generic recommendations or due to things they actually saw, cause "I had had a lot of work done on it recently". They said that 3 things urgently needed to get done based on what they saw-- a coolant flush because my coolant "is very cloudy and has definitely never been replaced", a break fluid change, and front struts because "those haven't been replaced and are leaking" (paraphrased, but very close to what they said.) I remembered for sure that the struts had been replaced in the overhaul (because the mechanic tried to convince me it *wasn't* necessary, but I insisted). I didn't remember specifically about the fluids, but was pretty sure all of them had been taken care of as well. They said they could replace the fluids today before I picked it up for about $400. I was skeptical and declined. After picking the car up, I looked for the invoice from 2 years/20K miles ago, and indeed the coolant had been changed, as had the break fluid. I also looked at the coolant myself and it was not at all cloudy or dingy, but instead a bright, clear pink. The previous invoice from my last shop had indicated they used the "Super Long Life Pink Toyota Coolant" that should last 100K miles or 10 years. I feel so distrustful of the mechanic after this that I wondered if they actually used full synthetic oil like I paid for-- or did the oil change at all! I wish I had looked at the dipstick before the oil change to compare. Looking at it now though, it is not as light colored as I would expect a brand new fully synthetic oil to be. I do not know enough about oil to say this for sure though. Tomorrow I'll try to get under the car and at least make sure the oil filter looks new.(I'll update when i do) I can't say with 100% certainty that I was lied to. Being generous, I'd say there was some other big mix up about which car they were making the report about. That would also not be great, but would at least leave me feeling less violated. Other than people being friendly, the one thing I'll give them is that they were probably honest about what the warning light meant, when they *could* have lied about that and tried to get me to do a big unnecessary repair there. From what they said, the computer read-out indicated a 12V battery issue. They looked at the 12 volt battery and saw the negative connection was loose, so they tightened it. That entire process should have taken 2-5 minutes, but I was still charged $164 for "diagnosis and advice". Maybe they mean the giant inspection they did that I never asked for, in order to tell me I needed a bunch of work I don't need... but clearly that's not something I should be charged for either. So... while it could have been much worse, I'm not particularly pleased with that either. So, that's my experience and impression, for what it's worth. YMMV read more

Let me state first that I'm not inclined to give a horrible review unless it is duly deserved. That being said, my daughter went off the road at a highway exit and it destroyed both tires and a wheel on the right side of the car. I was looking for a place close to have AAA tow it to that also had good reviews. Unfortunately I chose CHT. I called them and asked if I could bring 2 new tires to them from GSO because we had just bought 4 tires for her car 2 mo. prior and they said yes. When I got there I saw that the wheel was damaged and they thought they could fix it but could not (this didn't surprise me). What astonished me was that they quoted a new wheel at $608, for a 2016 Nissan Sentra!!! Yes, not a GTR but a Sentra. They said they couldn't get one from a salvage yard and had to buy from the dealer. I called Crown Nissan in GSO and they quoted me $400. I called CHT back to say that I could get one cheaper and they said they can only get them from a list they are approved to buy from, then magically they were able to find a sparkling new wheel from a salvage yard for $266. Issue #1.. Issue #2, I asked Ben to make sure the front was aligned and he said they would check it for free and only charge if it needed it. Well it turns out it did and the alignment was $95 which is about $40 more than the tire place in GSO (largest Michelin dealer in the triad) where I bought the tires. Also, i never received an alignment report! I have always received this from every other place I get an alignment. Issue #3 (the big one!), Ben called me again to say that the front right lower control arm and strut were badly bent and needed to be replaced as well as the control arm and strut on the left side of the car (undamaged side). I asked why he would replace both sides and Ben stated that if you replace one control arm and strut you HAVE to replace both. This is complete BS!! I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 235k mikes on it and have replaced the LCA on the passenger side but not the driver side. Car drives fine. I have asked 2 other mechanics this week if the above is true and they both said absolutely not. ALSO, at this point i decided to drive my daughters car back to GSO to my mechanic and let him look at it, and guess what?? Neither the lower control arm nor the strut is bent. I drove it home at speeds up to 76 mph and there was zero wheel shake or front end wobble. Mechanic did the same and said the same. Looked at it for 1hr on a lift and found NO DAMAGE to LCA or strut. In the attached picture you can see that they wanted to milk me for $2100 to fix something that didn't need fixing. They also show that I need a new battery and were going to charge $18 to install it! Guess what, my mechanic pulled a load on it and its @ 68% capacity and he said it didn't need replacing. Oh, and they brakes work great and I don't need to pay $120 to flush the brake fluid. Issue #4, when I went to pick up the car to drive it home, thinking I still needed a LCA and strut for the passenger side, I got in the car and started to pull out and the "Low tire pressure" warning light came on immediately. Frustrated, I went back inside and started to explain the situation and the manager interrupted and said, "What is it that you want us to do?". I exclaimed that I had just paid $584 to have my daughters car fixed and would like to HAVE IT FIXED!!! Luckily, a sympathetic and intelligent employee came out and figured out that the $70 TPMS sensor had never been programmed into the car. Oh yea, forgot to mention that they also charged $75 to mount and balance 2 tires, really?? Now you have to ask yourself, why would my mechanic lie when he easily could have taken the attached picture quote and charged me for items I didn't need? Well, because he's honest and doesn't make a living ripping people off! Never, Never, EVER take your vehicle to Chapel Hill Tire. If you need new tires or a good mechanic, send me a PM and I will send you straight to the people I always use. I guarantee you, even driving to GSO you will same money. A few years back, I took my car in to get a tire patched. Living in walking distance from the Downtown Chapel Hill location, I was there in about 5 minutes after they called me to pick up my car. When I checked out, I walked across the alley to the small service lot. I immediately noticed my passenger's side window was hanging off of the car. When I inquired, they said it hadn't been like that when the vehicle was inspected and it 'wasn't their lot'. Bare in mind there is a an office and a desk inside the small storefront that overlooks this lot. When I asked them to fix it, they gave me a full price estimate. For something that happened while my car was in their care and was very unlikely to have happened in broad daylight in the 5 minutes it took me to walk two hundred yards to pick up my car. They finally agreed to do it for the cost of the parts, rather than any mark up or labor. In hindsight, paying a single penny feels like they took advantage of a much more sheepish version of me. They damaged my car more than they fixed it. They skipped obvious parts of an inspection. They asked me to pay for their mistake. What's worse is that I never really even got an apology just an "oh... well it wasn't like that before". read more

Having to get car stuff fixed is always a bummer but during the pandemic Chapel Hill Tire is doing a pick-up and drop off service (for your car, though I think they do shuttle service too), which was awesome. They picked my car up yesterday morning, did my state inspection, oil change, and additional service they recommended - I called them to discuss going forward with the repairs; I got a link to pay via text, and they dropped my car off back at my house this morning. There was no in-person contact, and I got everything I needed to done safely. They always do a great job, and although a little pricier, they're very quick compared to many other local shops. Exceptional service and speedy repairs at Chapel Hill Tire! My '04 Acura TL was due for an oil change and had a check engine light come on before a long weekend roadtrip, so I needed some help in a hurry. Ben and his pappy at the front counter were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the repairs for my car. In about 5 hours, the guys in the shop had all the problems analyzed and repairs completed. Ben took the time to call and go over the necessity and price of everything before they started work. They also provide you with a nice website interface to see the listed diagnosed problems and how essential the repairs are. The prices also seemed pretty reasonable, especially with the speedy turnaround and 3yr guarantee on their work. Will definitely use these guys again when the next problem arises! read more

I love this place. Staff is very friendly and experienced. Only downside is it always takes quite a long time regardless of work you're having done. I've actually been turned away before due to to wait for basic things such as oil changes and state inspections. They even have a feature on their website to make an appt, which I always do and despite having an appt, wait is usually 1 hour or more for a simple oil change. Be wary of these unprofessional scammers. I had 2 bad experiences with them: -They replaced a small piece and charged me an environmental fee for disposing it. Well, that fee was almost the same amount than the cost of the piece brand new. Auto repair shops usually charge a small percentage, but it looks like they included labor costs when estimating the disposal fee for the part! I asked them to give me the part, that I could dispose it myself (it was the size of a ring and I was planning on going to the recycling center for something else anyways). They refused. At the end I had to have my bank refund me the fee because of the scam. -Before that, I went for the annual emissions and safety inspection. I got a report saying it had passed. However, when I went to the DMV office I wasn't able to pay. Apparently they hadn't entered the needed information on some DMV website. So I had to call them. A guy told me he was going to do it, but wasn't, so I had to keep on calling back. At the end I waited like 45 minutes on the DMV until someone else finally submitted the report. First, CHT online scheduling is a joke. You place an appointment request online and step 2 the front desk calls you to schedule. So what's the point of online scheduling? And by the way I never got a call back. Love the community location. Easy to get in and out. Prius shuttle service is great and driver is friendly. Front desk staff are businesslike. My problem is that they don't keep their time even for routine oil change. They have a 2 to 4 hour window but when I called after 4 hours my car was still not touched by a technician. It was finally 6 hours before I got a call. Seriously! Why give out appointments when the car will be sitting on the lot for 5 hours. My entire day was held hostage for an oil change that should take 1 hour. Maybe time to tryout a competitor. read more

These guys are great! Made an appointment for first thing in the morning and was taken care of in less than an hour. They've got a shuttle service that'll take you anywhere nearby, but there are also a couple coffee shops you can wait at while they work. My 2016 car's oil change cost about $60 with the Yelp check-in, but I got the synthetic oil that lasts 5,000 miles. read more

I hate to be the guy who writes a review out of anger but I'm currently sitting on the side of the highway bc of the incompetence of Chapel Hill Tire. This is the second serious mess up of theirs, when all I had them do is an oil change. Episode 1: forgot to tighten drain plug and/or oil filter. Resulting in leaking oil all down the street. Episode 2 (today): didn't secure the plastic undercarriage guard, which fell down and dragged down the highway. So I am now stuck on the side of the road waiting for them to send someone out (I'm 5min away from the shop and going on 30min waiting). So, beware of this place. read more

I'd rate them a zero if I could. Just got scammed when I took in the vehicle to be checked as we suspected that a recently replaced tire (by chapel hill tire) was causing a vibration noise. I only asked to have the tire checked as I had already had a full diagnostics report done 3 months ago by CHT. We were not advised that they were going to do yet another full diagnostic and charge us another diagnostics fee for the same services they suggested 3 months ago along with a bunch of highly recommended yet unrelated additional services (Cowl cleaning, headlight restoration, replace windshield wiper blade, etc). I felt so taken advantage and frustrated that I just paid it and got the h$ll out. I will never use them again and will discourage anyone from using them. They will take you for a sucker!! read more

The staff were very accommodating and went above and beyond in advising next steps. They are super convenient to where I live. Made appointment online for NC state inspection. Convenient location. Received an email from customer service rep stating that you can no longer wait for your vehicle. I figured this was reasonable during COVID times. So I said that was fine and I would head to the nearest coffee shop to wait. It wasn't until I dropped my vehicle off this AM that I became aware that all services will take 2-4 hours to complete (was informed by a nondescript sign inside the building; no word of this on their website or in my confirmation email). This includes state inspections, which generally take 15-30 minutes elsewhere. What is the purpose of making an appointment if regardless of my appointment time a simple task like a state inspection is going to take 2-4 hours? And you would think that it would be good customer service for clients to be aware of this PRIOR to showing up at the location unprepared for this ridiculous wait. Will not return. Total time spent waiting for my car before I decided to leave: 3h (actually 3h 30m, but I showed up 30 min earlier than my scheduled appt so I won't count those extra 30 min). Recently had my state inspection completed by Chapel Hill Tire after reading glowing reviews on Nextdoor. Made an appointment over the phone a week in advance. Check in was quick despite how busy it was at 7:30 in the morning. I got a text at 8:07 that the inspection was starting. I paid and was out the door by 8:26. I did receive a text on a digital vehicle inspection report suggesting future attention. I had my car serviced two months prior at Import Motor Works so this sent up a red flag and I asked the girl at checkout what the deal was. She stated those recommendations are only made based on my cars mileage. I am leery of companies that do this and the main reason I go to Import Motor Works is that they service items that actually need it and do not use mileage to determine work. The other reason for my three star rating is the fact my husband brought his truck here in November to have it serviced and they forgot to change his oil. I think these folks are great at completing a state inspection but I would be cautious on getting work done here. read more

I was in a pinch on a Friday morning, needing to drive to my sister's place in Richmond on last minute notice with a car that was riding on bald tires, overdue for an inspection, oil change and wipers blades. I had an appointment set I thought, for 9am and a set of tires waiting for me. When I arrived at the Chapel Hill Tire location at 4805 Hope Valley Rd I found out however, that I had made my appointment at the wrong shop and my tires weren't here. Ben the service advisor behind the desk assured me that even though, I had made the mistake he and his team were going to make sure everything was in order by the time I was needing the car for my trip that afternoon. Ben called the other location and arranged the transport of my tires and Steven another member of the staff chauffeured me home where I would wait until they picked me up once the work on the car was completed. By the time my car was ready a short time later, the bill came in under cost and I was setting up my next appointment for my and my wife's car. (They have an expert Subaru mechanic on staff) Bottom Line:: Friendly, accommodating and honest staff with a "customer is always right" attitude. Exceptional service complete with complementary shuttles that will drop you off and and pick you up... alleviating that inherent inconvenience that often accompanies having a car serviced and repaired. Extremely honest business. Matthew could have easily sold me four new tires and an alignment (because I truly thought there was more wrong with my tires than the flat I brought it in for). But he honestly assessed my tires and determined that they probably have another 6 months left on them. He said that the flat was because there was a nail in my tire. And then, when I went to pick up my car and pay for the tire repair, he 100% comped it and said "Don't worry about it. We just want you to be happy and we want your business." It's rare to find a business model like this these days, so kudos to Matthew and Chapel Hill Tire. For a $29 tire repair, they've earned our business for life. Excellent business decision. They also have a drop off form and box, which I needed badly because my tire wouldn't hold air for more than 30 minutes and it was after hours when the problem started, so I just drove my car over there last night, filled out the form, left it and my keys in the drop box, and received a text early this morning that my car was being checked in. I then received regular texts during the repair process, letting me know what they were doing, and Matthew called several times to discuss the tire situation. So excellent customer service. They're also very friendly. This place basically checks off all the boxes for what you want from a tire repair company. read more

In this world of "hurry up and let's go", there is an inherent loss of true customer service....but at what cost? A few extra dollars? Maybe save 10mins? It seems to me that we have forgotten what great customer service is anymore these days...but like a refreshing breath of fresh air, Chapel Hill Tire has renewed my faith in GREAT customer service and professional car care. My wife and I are travel nurses and travel all over the country, and car maintenance is a must. We were in need of an oil change and tire rotation and when we asked "what's the best place to take our car" Chapel.Hill Tire was the majority consensus. So, I went to check it out. I arrived at 7AM even though they open at 7:30, but to my delightful surprise Stevie, one of the mechanics said "no problem. I can do that for you right now". WOW I thought. Nowhere in the country in all of our travels have we ever encountered such a thing!! While waiting in a very nice, we'll appointed waiting room, of which was equipped with ever kind of phone charger, I had a wonderful conversation with Ricky who drives a complimentary shuttle that will pick people up, or take them home while they wait for their repairs. HOLY COW!!! I've never been so impressed with a Car Center anywhere in the country!! I wish all car centers could be like this!! Chapel Hill Tire truely has reestablished and raised the bar, and other places should really follow this example. My only complaint: Because we move from state to state, we won't ve able to make Chapel Hill Tire our permanent car care center. This auto-repair shop lists their prices online, which led me to believe they would be an honest shop. I was wrong. After performing the $150 AC service and inspection, the garage informed me that my vehicle's AC compressor and condenser were shot. This meant the $175 dollar service, add 17-20% on top of their online price for a service fee and taxes to know the actual amount, was useless. Additionally, after a quick online search, the garage was going to charge me 250% more than market price for a compressor and 300% more than market price for a condenser. Long story ...but my car needed a LOT of work. It's a 2006. They took care of all the issues in record time, even staying late to fix it so I would have my car available the next morning!! Wow! Amazing! So I brought it home and a random thing happened.. there was an issue with the radiator which had nothing wrong with it. Apparently I needed a new one.
