El Sabor Chapin - Steak Tacos

El Sabor Chapin A…read morehidden gem right in my neighborhood that I somehow overlooked until now. This bright and colorful food truck caught my view as I entered the Sunoco gas station in Hickory Ridge Village Center off Freetown Road in Columbia. I placed my order, then checked the air in my tires and got gas--two birds with one stone! By the time I returned, my lunch was ready. They serve freshly prepared Guatemalan-style food with very generous portions. I ordered the tacos choosing 2 flavors each of chicken and steak, burrito filled with tender steak pieces and then a Carne Asada burrito. The flavors were delicious, ingredients were fresh and nothing was overly spicy. Sliced cucumber and radish with sauces topped each dish and the service was friendly with no long wait. A convenient spot for a quick, tasty bite. I'll definitely be back to try more.

I heard that the lines can be long but when we went on Saturday around noon there was no line and the wait for our food was around 10 minutes. Just like everyone says the portions are huge! Each meal can easily be split with someone else or saved for a later meal. I really loved the torta, it came with refried beans, lettuce, a special sauce, steak (you can choose the meat), all on a super soft bread. The tacos come loaded up with meat, the steak wasn't the best I've had but the chorizo was phenomenal! The drink options are limited, but if you've never tried coconut water that would be my recommendation. There were some tables right next to the food truck available to use. It was the perfect day to sit outside and enjoy our fresh food. The person who took our food order was super friendly, patient, and happy to answer any questions. I'll definitely be back, and will probably order a torta again. I've also heard great things about their quesadillas!

The food truck seem to always post that they always run out, so we were glad that they still had their full menu available when we got there. The menu offers Loaded Tacos (on flour tortillas topped with cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapenos, and salsa verde/mild salsa), Street Style Tacos (on corn tortillas topped with onions, cilantro, salsa verde, and served with a lime wedge), Quesadilla, Burritos, Burrito Bowls, and various sides and desserts. We ordered: +the 3 Street Style Tacos - you had a choice of chicken, steak, beef barbacoa, or veggie, and they come in corn tortillas with toppings of onions, cilantro, salsa verde, and lime wedge; I liked that you can mix-and-match the protein and they're not strict about keeping it all the same meats; we opted for 2 steak and 1 chicken; unfortunately, the corn tortillas were extremely dry, as well as the protein, being super dried out - there was hardly any flavor or seasoning on the steak nor the chicken; the meats were also finely-diced/cubed; we were wondering why red onions were used instead of white onions, and the meats were cubed as the same size as the red onions; these were tossed after a bite +the Famous Crackadilla - supposedly the truck's signature dish; it's a quesadilla filled with beef barbacoa, cilantro lime rice, and jalapenos, with a side of queso dip and beef au jus for dipping; the tortilla itself was super dry, but the quesadilla itself was generously filled with the barbacoa; there wasn't much cilantro lime rice and jalapenos, but there was ample melted cheese; the queso was just okay, as it tasted a bit 'flour-y', and the au jus was a bit more on the oily side and could have been more savory; we were hoping it would be like a consommé Staff was friendly, and they text you when your order is ready. You can find them at different locations - they seem to update their locations on their social media. We found them at a local brewery on a weekend. Not sure if we went on an off day, or if leftover meats were used, but we left super disappointed. +dried out & flavorless proteins +extremely dried-out tortillas

The queso inside of it was delicious & everything tasted fresh. Great portions. I don't recommend their street tacos though. The meats they use are probably the same for all menu options but without the help of other ingredients in the other food options, the flavor is lacking. The chicken was on the dry side but the steak had a good smoke/char flavor to it. Salsa verde and salsa roja are delicous, i wish the salsa roja was a little bit spicier.
