As I was driving to DMV, I just passed Chipotle and located across from Comfort Inn is a restaurant a little hidden back called Don Julio Tequilas. As you walked in, the restaurant is clean, moderate music playing, bar on left and dining room on the right. There were 5 items: 1) Queso Dip 2) Wings 3) Pork Carnitas 4) Mexican City Tacos 5) Pollo Yucatán. The queso dip was delicious and smooth. The wings come in three flavors and eight pieces in which I chose buffalo. They were very tender, juicy and delicious. The two entrees - pork carnitas and pollo yucatan were delicious too. Unfortunately the Mexican City tacos fell flat for me. Though the three street tacos has 3 variety of protein: grilled steak, chicken and carnitas topped with cilantro and onions, served with charro beans and fluffy rice. All of protein was bland, the charro beans were soupy but after adding the queso dip to the tacos, they were tasty. The server named Jeremy was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We really were in the mood for Mexican - traveling so relying on signs etc. We thought we were going to another restaurant, but noticed this and pulled in. Wayne was in the mood for a margarita-and was not disappointed. Chips and salsa were just right, and we ordered some guacamole. I went for a burrito cali - chicken, rice, beans all delish! As someone who's new to the Fredericksburg area, I've been trying different restaurants, and Don Julio Tequila has easily become my favorite! The first time I came, I ordered the Cap Add Shrimp, and it was hands down some of the best food I've had since moving here. The salsa was incredible too--fresh, flavorful, and had the perfect amount of chunky tomatoes and onions. It tasted homemade. The food was so good that I came back just two days later and brought my wife with me. She ordered the Nachos Texacana, and they were loaded with fresh ingredients and packed with flavor. We both ordered the blended mango strawberry margaritas, and they were absolutely perfect--smooth, refreshing, and blended just right. The food, drinks, and overall experience were outstanding. If you're in Fredericksburg and looking for authentic Mexican food with great service and amazing margaritas, Don Julio Tequila is a must-visit. We'll definitely be regulars! read more

Without a doubt, the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been in. The food was so salty I couldn't eat it. It actually made me sick. I ordered their top shelf margarita, which was a total waste of money. The bartender had to look at the menu to actually create a margarita. The alcohol was less than a shot as I watched him, make it. Definitely not worth the cost an instead of being top shelf was more like bottom shelf. The only thing consistent is the inconsistency of service and quality. Not sure how likely I am to return again, and would not recommend for any reason outside of convenience and cost. I've been a repeat taco tuesday customer for a few weeks, and while sometimes it's a reasonable dinner at an affordable price, others have been less bang for the buck so to speak. The last few times I've been here, either the complementary salsa or white sauce, and once even the chips entirely were said to have been 86'ed for the day, which is no big deal for a last call late night service, but a slow 6pm sit down is mildly annoying. However when baskets and cups start flowing out of the kitchen to other tables 10-15 minutes later without being offered, it's even more so. Tacos quality are usually representative of the price, affordable and decent enough, however sometimes they are more bland and watery, some other times more dry and oddly seasoned with a heavy handed amount of clove/cinnamon type spice. Simply inconsistent. Soft drinks are not consistently and regularly priced week to week, sodas can be flat and heavily syrupy some nights and bright and bubbly others. Consistently inconsistent. The service is lacking as well, after sending items back to the kitchen for being lower than normal quality (hard shells completely soaked through and falling apart) or as ordered (no lettuce is not an overly demanding request), no re-fire was offered, no removal from bill, just a "sorry about that, here's your check." Perhaps the bartenders are more attentive, maybe the drinks are strong enough to make one not care about the small things, maybe I unintentionally did something to be labeled a disliked customer, but for the next few weeks at least, I'll certainly be spending my taco tuesdays elsewhere. read more

Total should have been $14.04 for my meal. They decided to charge me for a Combo 1 item meal (which is supposed to come with rice AND beans) for $12.99...AND they charged for 2 à la carte quesadillas with an up charge for grilled chicken, which nobody mentioned. That totaled $9.99....so my "à la carte" meal that should have been $14.04, was instead $22.98....we didn't realize til we had already paid and left. CHECK YOUR BILLS! read more

This place is family owned and they invested a lot of themselves in the decor; especially the custom paint work and little murals on the chairs & booths. Our server, Diana, was terrific and made our visit very nice. She was very complementary and took great care of us. The food was delicious especially the white salsa dip for the chips. Last visit, in both senses of the word, was miserable. The server was great. However , after the initial greeting it took a good long while to get the usual chips and salsa. When they arrived, the chips were cold and stale. At this point, with no order being taken yet, we elected to leave. If it was this bad, no sense ordering food and risking further disappointment. An earlier by visit wasn't this bad but by no means was it remarkable. There is PLENTY of better Mexican food near this place, so explore other options before dining here. read more

Wasn't expecting much stop for an overnight rest during a long road trip because it was next to the hotel we stopped at and didn't want to get back in car. Ambiance nice - the place was cheerfully dressed for Christmas. Wait staff very nice very polite. It seems like the staff helps each other out which I always like. Food very reasonable priced and tasty! Steak was a little on the fatty side but had a great taste to it. Enjoyed our meal. Portions big - bigger than expected for the price. We went exploring for a Mexican Restaurant that we'd never visited. What drew us to this one were the festive bunting flags hanging from the outside! We stepped out of the car and were greeted with loud festive Mexican music playing which made it feel like a party! The staff were amazingly friendly and the owner stopped by and chatted with us, even making us a special jalapeno skinny margarita for two. The chips were hot, airy and crispy perfection and the salsa was fantastic! The hot Spinach Queso dip was to die for! (I waited until the servers were out of sight before scraping up the last bit with a spoon and eating it by itself!). The lunch special Fajitas were a surprisingly large portion for such a low price, and the Chili Rellanos were heavenly. The only thing that raised my eyebrows was the 'convenience fee' of nearly $3 listed underneath my margarita on the bill. Still not quite sure why that was there. For the fun atmosphere, friendly staff (our server was a sweetheart!) and diverse menu, we'll definitely be going back! I took three bites of my meal and requested my check and left. I wouldn't recommend Don Julio's restraint in Fredericksburg, Va. to anyone. Additionally, I ordered a beer and told my server I wouldn't order my food until after I drank it. I just wanted to tell you about my experience....So it was my boyfriend's and I anniversary, and we originally decided to go to the Mexican restaurant where we had our first date, but this place was closer to home after a long day's work.... Well, we walk in and stand at the door for a good 15 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us (the restaurant is empty). Finally, we are seated... We sit there another 15 minutes before the server comes to the table. He asked for our drink order (he speaks no English), which is fine, but how is he supposed to understand us? My boyfriend orders a margarita, and I order a soda. A young girl comes back to the table and says We don't have a bartender, and we don't know how to make drinks... so I say, well, can you just pour a shot of something? She says No... oooook... So, we order our food ...my boyfriend orders a chicken chimichanga ... and I order Texana con pollo, which is basically cheesy rice with chicken steak and shrimp on top ... the server brings our food. My boyfriend's food is wrong. It's not chicken... It's definitely beef ... My food is wrong ... I got a burrito with sliced cheese on top that looked like it has been thrown in the microwave. YUCK ... I tried to be polite as possible and tell them it was wrong ...They didn't act phased or concerned .. So, I tried to make the best of it and eat it anyway... My plate didn't have any cheesy rice, which was supposed to come with my meal ...so I asked for some ... and was charged for it .. So, when it came time to leave and pay, I asked the young lady if she could take it off the bill because it was supposed to come with the meal .. she said she couldn't do that because there was no manager there... So, at this point, I'm irritated. My food is disgusting. I didn't eat any of it .. and now I'm going to pay extra for something that was included in my meal... I said I'm not paying for the rice, and she rudely says you don't have to pay for anything and rips up the receipt .... I do not recommend this place highly unprofessional ...
