They had a long line a little after 1 on a Friday afternoon. Took about 45 minutes to get to the order counter so would definitely call ahead although maybe the wait is part of the experience. I was talking to a group in front of me that recommended the Char Pup so ordered a Char Jumbo Dog and a double Pup. Also ordered a 1/3 pound Char Merkt cheddar Burger. For toppings, we got everything and grilled onions on the Red Hots and both were excellent! Some of the best we've had. The surprise was the Burger (which we saw was highly rated). It had that flame grilled tasty beef and we got it with everything and grilled onions also-simple. delicious Burger and just the right size. They also have Italian Beef as well Italian and Polish sausage. Service at the counter was friendly and quick-food was ready about 15 minutes after ordering. This place is listed in some lists as the best burger joint in Illinois. It's really solid. And the shakes are very good, too. They do crinkly fries, in case that's your jam. I enjoyed the flavor of the burger, although I do wish there were more pickles. :-) We had to wait for a table outside, and it was a little bit chilly, but overall I felt it was worth it.

The most unbelievable part was watching another employee try to make things right by handing us a full cup of sauce, only for Garrett to take it away, pour some of it out, and hand us back a half-filled cup just to prove a point. I've honestly never seen a manager act that petty over something so insignificant. Seriously...what kind of business sense does that make? Three customers spend $60, and you're willing to lose them over sauce that costs less than a dollar? Instead of taking care of customers and supporting his employee, Garrett chose to argue over a condiment. This wasn't about trying to get something for free. We were simply asking for what was ordered. A good manager understands that customer service is what keeps people coming back. Unfortunately, Garrett showed the exact opposite. The food itself was good, but customer service can make or break a restaurant. Because of how Garrett handled such a simple issue, we won't be back, and I certainly can't recommend this place to anyone looking to be treated with respect.

They were amongst the worst fries I've ever had, but maybe this is the one bit of their menu they don't make to order and if I'd had them fresh it would be good. Because they make their food to order, it takes a bit for your food to be ready. I think it took about 10 minutes, and if there had been anyone behind me I think they have a couple of spaces in the front of the restaurant to wait.

I was very disappointed in my 2 pieces of dark chicken dinner. I wanted something to grab quickly for lunch so I get the chicken. The chicken was very petite, dry and taste like it was fried in burnt grease. The biscuit wasn't very good very dry. Definitely took some time for the food to be made but the rice bowl has tons of food in it. Comes with the rice your choice of protein, veggies, pita and the white sauce. I wasn't huge on the chicken but the gyro meat was good. I also got the Zinger Gyro combo sandwich and wow that was phenomenal. One of the better Zinger sandwiches I've had. Like some of the other reviews have said if you have to try one thing, try their sandwiches, especially the Zinger. Had great flavor to the chicken. The menu is also pretty big. They have sub sandwiches, fried shrimp, cheese fries and much more. Also when it comes to the girl at the register, she was nice and customer service was great. If I'm in the area I wouldn't mind trying it again. Keep up the good work!

I wish it had more peas and maybe some pork and less seasoning TBH. 3. Maduros was my side - it was good. 4. Beef pastelilos - 7/10. They were the puffy kind, but more hollow than I'd like - i.e. meat to air ratio. But they were overcooked. I could taste the burned-ness of the dough and it didn't sit well. 5. No tostones - they were out. but a funny story is about 5 mins into my waiting another worker came in, so I could hear them talking in the back. The prior kid said something to the effect of "oh we are out of tostones".. "but I can figure something out". Like it was possible to make... the tostones... which weren't available to me at the time of my ordering... I kind of had a "hell naw" moment, but decided to suppress it. Net net, I ate half my jibarito because it was big. I could not eat anymore rice because it was too salty. And I had one pastelilo because now I'm full. One suggestion - make some pique. I asked for some hot sauce as I received my order and all they could offer were generic packets of what is probably louisiana style hot sauce. I want that habanero pique!!! I think it'll help, at least cut through some of the salty TBH. Also work on the service and timing. 20 mins is too long for 1 jibarito and sides. Thanks!

The gyro meat has a unique, delicious flavor that keeps me coming back, and the pita is exactly how it should be, soft with just the right amount of crisp. Their fries are consistently fresh, perfectly seasoned, and always served hot. What makes this place even more special is the service. You can tell the staff genuinely cares about the customer experience. On my most recent visit, Verda was exceptionally kind, patient, and welcoming to every person who walked through the door. I was especially touched by how warm and thoughtful she was with my sons. That level of genuine hospitality is becoming harder to find, and it made our meal even more enjoyable. Great food brings people in the first time, but outstanding service is what keeps them coming back. The Works delivers both. It's the kind of local business worth going out of your way to support. I highly recommend it, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit with my boys.

And actually, Marlee lived in the area close to The Works when she was growing up. Anyway, during both visits, I found the meat to be dry; it had flavor, but no moisture. The staff was friendly and the place was clean; so, 3 out of 5 stars.
