This credit union has merged and become a 'division' of Commercial Bank of California (CBC)…read more Unfortunately, it is no longer a community oriented credit union. My poor rating specifically comes from working with the AVP/Relationship Manager, Bobby Wu, as well as the policies of the new bank. They have been dishonest on two specific occasions with me, causing me to lose money. After the second one, I closed the account and have left. Most recently, my CD renewed and I went from 4% interest to 0.7% interest for a CD at a time when interest rates are higher than they have been in over a decade. While it is on me that I missed the renewal, CBC doesn't advertise their rates and when asked they say they negotiate them with members. When I complained, they said they could give me 3.5%. What type of bank does that? They never apologized for trying to cheat me in the first place. I wonder how many other members have had their interest rates demoted without them realizing it. Had they renewed at the going rate, they would never have lost my business in the first place. This bank is very shady.

Her rudeness and complete lack of basic human decency was appalling. Upon entering the Oakland branch, I was not greeted or acknowledged by the staff. I approached employee- Rachael- to request changes to my account. Earlier in the week I was told by employees at the San Francisco branch location that I could make these account changes anywhere and required only one signature. However, at this Oakland location I was met with an unhelpful attitude and a flat-out refusal to provide assistance from employee Rachael. I was met with apprehension and poor attitude before I even presented my ID- employee Rachael clearly did not spend the time looking properly at my accounts- immediately stating the other branch I visited was breaking policy and could not make changes to my account. I told her I would go back to the SF location to which she said go ahead. Her attitude was not professional or appropriate. I left the branch feeling unwelcome and undervalued. Not only was my time wasted, but I also incurred unnecessary travel costs to resolve my issue at another location where the staff were professional, courteous, and more than willing to assist. This inconsistency in service is troubling, and it does not reflect the standards I expect from a financial institution I have trusted with my business. Opened a checking account with them back in summer 2023 and have never had so many issues with a bank. First, they type my email incorrectly into the system and force me to come into the office to sign papers to change it back to the correct email. Next, they are unable to help me change my pin at all despite me having issues with calling the bank line and changing the pin there. Third, despite having closed my account at the bank they are still charging me a service fee. And to top it off, the most unforgiving point is that the Asian man consistently has the worst customer service. They literally cant do a single thing right at this bank, so the least they could do is greet someone and speak politely on the phone but the man I've spoken with the past few times is always curt, does not introduce himself (hence why I don't know this man's name), and has an attitude. To be clear, never had an issue with the main branch; the woman speaking on the 1800 line was generally friendly and polite and did her best to help. It's the Oakland branch that is absolutely awful. I opened the account with the signing bonus enticing me, but that 300 dollar bonus was not worth it. Take your time and money elsewhere, this bank is not worth your time and efforts.

The tellers are always friendly here, prompt service inside, especially nowadays when most people don't even go inside anymore. The only thing I don't like about Bank Of The West switching over to BMO is that they are no longer open on Saturdays, so now if I do need to go inside, it's a bit of a challenge making it there before they close. But other than that, I still say this branch, located on Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland, is still very, very good!!!
