Pint of Guinness served in 12oz Coca Cola glass... At a Pint price.

Pint of Guinness served in 12oz /Coca Cola glass. Waited over 20 minutes to place an order at the Bar... CVP was practically empty. We walked out. Bartenders must have hearing loss... Music excessively loud.,.. headache loud. Bottom line.. CVP Baltimore on St. Paul Street, is a Torture Chamber

Ambiance: A little run down, small but cozy pub, it is something that I expect in a college town. The focal point seems to be the bar where most folks sit with a TV, chatting with bartenders who are super friendly, also waited our booth table. There are a couple high table by the window and the rest are booths. Food & Beverages: They have some good selection on drafts and I had the weizen beer which was good. Regular pub menu with salads and sandwiches, all very delicious at the college price point. Service: Super friendly bartenders, no fuss, get you what you need, refill your water without having to asked, etc. I left my phone at the table and didn't realize it for about 10 mins after we left, ran back to the pub and the lady immediately handed back to me. I realized this could skew my impression of this pub but knowing that these are good people with decent beers , food and service, wouldn't you want to go back?

There was one table available left outside. We nabbed it. There was seating inside. I think it was every other table blocked for Covid spacing. Honestly surprised that a bar bathroom was as clean as it was! All staff were wearing masks. I ordered the 8 oz burger and fries. Waiter didn't hear me and I got chips and sour cream and onions dip. I'm glad he made the mistake. The chips and dip were delicious. The fries, were very good. They were a little over salted and peppered for my taste but if you're drinking a beer to wash it down, then they're salty enough for you to order another beer. The burger was outstanding. Quite tasty. Service was speedy for a busy lunch on Memorial Day. Soda refills came without needing to ask.

I used to come here for a cocktail after class when I did my Masters degree at UB... actually was known as a singles bar when I was there.

Service was perfection. The interior has a great dark wood/chandelier, old-school bar vibe and comfortable seating without it being too noisy when packed. There is some signage about the poet himself. We started of with the "cheese dip" which is an interesting way to describe a pretzel appetizer. But boy howdy, the cheese dip was enormous, which complemented the salty, buttery pretzels perfectly. The stuffed lamb was pretty reasonably priced and came with spinach and potatoes. Both that and the strip steak were a bit heavy on the sauce though, but otherwise, great dishes. Don't forget to swing by the bathroom. I just really like the posters in the hallway. The bathrooms were nice though. Overall, this is a reasonably-priced, inviting atmosphere, and tasty good. Great spot for the area.

I also got a mushroom lasagna and it didn't feel hot enough/ didn't taste amazing after the first few bites. But hoping it's a one off and would like to try some other things. We weren't the biggest fan of the chicken sandwich (I think it was called the chicken royale?) we got either- it just didn't work with the combination inside the sandwich. Seemed like there was only 1 person running the whole downstairs (and maybe training someone else) but he was a burst of sunshine keeping it together. Because of the 2 dishes not really hitting the mark but fish and chips are great id give it between 3 & 4 stars! Will come back for the fish & chips and try something else as the atmosphere was lovely and service was nice. Also looks like they have nice deals for every day of the week at the upstairs portion.

Overall, good food, great atmosphere, and a spot I'd recommend if you're in the area before a show.

There's no flash. There are no gimmicks. It's a local bar to go grab a drink and you're not in the mood for the trendy packed spots. It's very unassuming and great neutral space. Anyone can show up, any time. Everyone's welcomed. You can have a good convo w/o having to scream thru it. MASSIVE PLUS *smile*!!! From a musical perspective, all sorts of genres pump thru the system and the ability to make selections is much better than other bars, which is great. It's even better when your selections are getting other people to enjoy the music and their time there, as well. Always a crowd pleaser. Aside from a fully stocked bar, there's a great beer selection. I happen to LOVE ciders and there's always an excellent choice available. The bartenders are always welcoming and accommodating. People come to unwind and have a good time w/o any pretense. I really enjoy the Tavern for that reason.
