Wanted to have steak dinner while driving through this side of New York. Amenia Steakhouse popped on Yelp but didn't have menus nor significant reviews, but we decided to eat here anyway. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was nice and friendly despite being so busy. So we started with clam chowder. This was okay. Having had the best clam chowders in Maine, I didn't expect much, but surprisingly, this was not bad. We shared the stuffed mushroom, nothing to write home about. But the New York strip dinner was cooked perfectly at medium-rare. The char was a bit much, and this was a 1-inch steak, and it was good! BF enjoyed his lamb burger as one of the specials. The food is always spot on no matter what we order services above and beyond and the place was packed and ambience is warm and friendly. That's why the four of us lime rock rats go there each of us have an hour drive one way to our destination worth the trip. read more

This was a great stop to make, as it was recommended by one of my family members. Parking isn't too bad for the most part, with plenty of spaces to be filled. We were seated upon entering and asked if we wanted to sit inside or out. Our waitress, Kate, did a wonderful job from start to finish and accommodated us when we needed it. The menu has quite a variety to choose from, which I always personally enjoy. The steaks are what they're famous for, hence the name, but what caught my eye was the Fried Chicken Wrap. I substituted tatter tots with that dish, but does come with regular fries without the substitution. All of that was very good and left satisfied. The bar area is very noisy. Ordered my steak medium and it was chard on the outside and raw on the inside. Waitress never came back to check on our table. Very disappointed in the meal , the extremely loud patrons at the bar that was encouraged by the overly loud bartender. Very disappointing experience. WORST service, lousy food (steaks are either undercooked or overdone, not great cuts, vegetables overcooked and taste like they've been frozen, french fries are soggy and the fish tastes like plastic. Our British car club had arrangements, after a 30 mile, 15 car rallye, to stop at the Amenia Steakhouse for lunch. They were so accommodating; especially when it came to separate checks. We have been going to the Amenia steakhouse on and off for quite a while now. We stopped going back in 2021 because the quality did not justify the price. Tough steaks, wilted lettuce, so we stopped going. We had recently given it another shot and grateful that we did. The prices are still up there but the quality of the food is also much better. Steaks, burgers and even the fish and salad has improved. Wife loves the surf and turf and I always enjoy the fish and chips and the seafood linguini. Apps are usually very good also. Kinda the only drawback is the French onion soup always comes out luke warm. Atmosphere is always nice as well as the service and food. I would honestly say I would once again recommend enjoying a good meal at the Amenia steakhouse. read more

The prices were good. The atmosphere was blah. The food was ok. The service was so-so. This place is off the beaten path. If you live in the area I can see why you would go. Decent food at good prices. But if your not within 10 miles...my advice is to not bother. Just go to Charlottes or some of the good restaurants in millbrook. read more

First time enjoying dinner here last night as it was my other half's request for his birthday. We ordered the garden salad and New England chowder for starts along with lobster tail as our appetizer and the blackened ribeye steak with mashed and veggies on side. The salad was super fresh and crisp like it was just dug up from the garden, I love that! The boy says the chowder was amazingly delicious and creamy. The steaks were not so much "blackened" as you'd think with Cajun or southern spices and herbs, but seared nicely and tender with an au jus that's just addicting and makes the steak melt in your mouth! You'll want to dip everything on your plate into the au jus (as we did with the creamy garlicky mashed potatoes if you can call them that...more like perfect textured buttery heaven in your mouth!) We did ask the owner on the way out where he gets his beef because we do think it's scrumptious. Alas, the secret remains with the steakhouse So the loss of the one star: The lobster tail was a bit over cooked so I was a little disappointed as the texture then changes and it's not enjoyable, rather more chewable. Also, they brought all our food out at once so we did feel almost rushed and weren't able to take our sweet time there as we had hoped. But, overall we will absolutely be back to give Amenia Steakhouse another go! Their atmosphere is vibrant with diversity of people- and relaxing as the nice raw cut wood booths keep you cozy with your company, the temperature was just right (which I really appreciate) and their steaks are impressive! read more

Seemingly good country dining, but something's off with this place: Lively vibe, good bar, and sizeable portions that are not overpriced. That said, some of the dishes I tried were mediocre at best. The fish and chips plate was over-fried and the fish was not properly battered. Also, the steak that my friend had tasted mushy --- a possible sign of using too much tenderizer and an immediate turn-off. Bottom line: Amenia Steak House has the potential for being a very good destination -- especially in an area where solid and well-priced dining options are limited. However, it's current culinary equation needs more work in order for that to happen. I hope that it does, because this restaurant seems to have potential. read more

We dined outdoors on a beautiful September day. Everyone's comfort and opinions are different about covid and mask policies so I'll just give my observations and you can decide if you are comfortable. Walked in front door. No masks in site. We have ours because you literally don't know where you need them anymore. Decided to eat outside so didn't put them on. The staff was welcoming and attentive right away. Waitress was very nice and friendly. My husband had steak and lobster tail, I had fish and chips. Everything tasted great! Fresh. My husband said it was delicious, but just said the lobster tail was on the really small side, but enjoyed every bite. The Tartar sauce for my fish and chips seemed to be made in house instead of bottled. Not sure but it was good. Service was fast. I think it was the owner that came out to check how everything was, was a nice touch. I even heard him ask couple next to us if their child has gotten crayons and something to color. It's a long story, but I stopped in to get a restaurant dessert for my mother who is literally dying. I might have had a drink. Anyway, I guess her name is Michelle from these reviews. She was behind the bar. She dug for the menu as if I was annoying her. She then went on to serve several other people who walked in after me. The one star is for the cute place. Great old school country steakhouse. Puzzled by the comments about steak prices - they are typical for the area and, in our experience, cooked as ordered. Fresh salads and sides. Attentive and very good humored staff. Patrons are an interesting mix of locals, hilltoppers and weekenders.
