    Sausage Platter

I had the best meal and experience here! Lola is absolutely the sweetest, energetic and very knowledgeable waitress. Her personality alone made every moment more enjoyable. I had the platter which was incredibly flavorful, well balanced and absolutely authentic! Topped it all off with a very decadent Sacher Torte.

If you are anywhere in the Hudson Valley don't miss this superb German Restaurant. We started with the delicious Sauerkraut Fritters, followed by classic Sauerbraten and Rahm Schnitzel (pork and chicken). Save room for deserts all homemade by owner Emily Carvajal. The classic Sacher Torte Apple Strudel and Haus Made Ice cream were all out of this world. Emily hails from Manhattan's Upper West Side and this little gem has all the qualities of a great New York restaurant. Superb service and ambience and full bar. Reservations are recommended. Outdoor dining available all summer.

We live under 10 minutes from this gem. This was Mr.Romance and mine 1st time. Thank you Kamal for the recommendation and for cooking for us. The atmosphere was beautiful the staff was lovely. Clean bathrooms. The red cabbage was perfect. The German potato salad was great. Now that we have visited we will be regulars. Make sure you stop by. Make reservations and tell Kamal high

Gets a knock. This place is not ready for take-out during Covid. There's no menu - I had to ask for a grumbly guy to fetch one. He asks; 'what? You want to order out?' Bad sign. Menu items are overpriced - and for roadside food: not a single dish under $25? Owner's vehicle plastered in political obscenity! Staff not welcoming. Rebel chef: 3

Ask the Community - Jaeger Haus

I saw online that the building was sold and about to close. Is the restaurant being closed, continued with new owners or being turned into something else?

The Jaeger Haus is still open and I was there this past Friday evening. You're thinking of the Gunk Haus in Clintondale which was sold to the owners of Mill Hose Brewing.

The waitresses are very kind and dressed in traditional German dresses and the live music is a great touch. To start, I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea that had a bit too much punch to it. The alcohol ratio was quite off and was very hard to drink. I asked for a soda to try and dumb it down, but was only able to get about half way through it. Though this was my fault for not ordering a beer at a German restaurant, I still would have liked the drink to be a bit tastier and is unfortunately the only thing keeping this review from being a shinning 5-stars. For my meal I ordered the sauerbraten which did NOT disappoint! The beef was very tender and the vinegar mixed with the gravy was the perfect level of sour and hearty. The red hot red cabbage was hot and flavorful and the potato pancakes were perfectly cooked. The side of applesauce put on top of the potato pancakes added the right amount of sweetness. A friend got the special rouladen which I got a taste of and was very delicious. The pickles inside were flavorful and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The menu is a bit pricey, but the portions are deceptively filling. I definitely expected to be hungry after but I finished my plate absolutely stuffed! Overall, this was a great experience and would recommend anyone looking for a taste of Germany to give this a try.

The cheese fondue was substantial, served with bread, apples, cornichons, cocktail onions, chunks of ham, two different kinds of sausages and assorted potatoes, all gorgeously presented on wooden slab. The French onion soup, which we shared as an appetizer was also delicious. Great wine and my fiancé sampled the Vermonter cocktail, a potent concoction of bourbon, sweet vermouth and angostura bitters. Very strong and flavorful! We finished the evening with a slice of apple strudel, complete with a sparkler candle for my belated birthday. Great presentation! The decor and atmosphere here is stunning with fur throws over the seat backs, roses, candlelight and Alpine themes like antler wall sconces. Bathrooms were very clean and decorated with cute retro skiing photos. After we praised the fondue as exceptional, our server offered to bring out the owner so we could meet her. Our whole experience here was very strong until the end of our meal when then service slowed down, which the server explained was due to a large party upstairs, so it took awhile for us to get our dessert. Not a huge deal. While the owner was great to chat with, she then asked if we wanted to enjoy our dessert at the bar so they could seat a larger party using our table and the one next to us (awkward, especially after spending over $200 on dinner, no thanks). Also, we did not appreciate the 2.5 "operational fee" added to our check! Were it not for these last two points, this would have been a five star review because the atmosphere, food and drinks were great!

I love how the dinning area has stone wall and chairs with white fur on them. Great romanic place for dates or special occasions. There were 5 of us and we ordered the pork schnitzel which was perfectly pan fried and seasoned ($36). The ham and cheese crepe was $22, small but very good... I was still left hungry so we also ordered the beet spatzel ($18), it came in a bowl with goat cheese , so good. The chicken entree(forgot the name) was big enough to share by my kids. It was cooked with skin on, which I prefer, crispy skin and tender meat, sooooo good. It was supposed to come with parsnip puree but they were nice enough to sub it with mashed potatoes for my kids. It was devoured! We also shared 2 deserts: apple strudel and bread pudding. They were good, but not the best we've had... For $16 each, maybe this can be skipped. But overall, great meal! Oh forgot to mention they have an apple schnapps shot for $5 that comes in a little Dasboot shot glass. So yummy!! A must try!

Cheerfully greeted by a nice person who was thrilled someone was trying her restaurant for the first time. Seemed it would be a pleasure! Banter! Joy! The location is adorable - an historic inn with lovely interior stone walls a nice bar, a dining room hung with farm implements and your usual skinny staircase and sunny porch. Absolutely thrilled by the continental and sometimes quirky selections (sweet and sour schnitzel? Why not!) Ordered quickly, letting the waitress know of time constraints. Half an hour later she brought the salad course. An hour after that, the manager or maître d' -- she never said but she did clearly have some authority and was the boss of the waitress--stopped by to inform the table that the delay was potato pancakes. The chef had apparently felt compelled to make a whole new batch of potato pancakes from scratch. And therefore it was our fault the food was taking so long. This would make sense if the table next to us wasn't also waiting twenty minutes for buffalo wings. And if our waters had been refilled. And if there were apologies rather than resigned excuses. The explanation landed like a desperate attempt at humor as the Titanic made a turn directly for the iceberg. No offer of even a comped cup of coffee, not a glass of wine, or even a sincere wish that things would go faster. We could do nothing but feel sorry for her and her staff in this wonderful little local inn and wonder who the monster was who is running the kitchen -- my beef stroganoff was terrific but the plate that made us late held a couple of small sausages, a large scoop of red cabbage and three jam-lid sized mashed potato fritters which could just as easily have been replaced by literally any starch... it was ninety minutes start to finish in this bizarre mystery of a restaurant. Was the chef on strike? Having a bad day? His front of house worked so very hard to cover for him. I have only sadness for this glorious little place - my favorite kind, locally owned, delicious dishes, deep pours. But I will only go back when I don't have a long drive ahead of me -- or perhaps for a laugh with people from the City who don't know how to slow down.
