We had an amazing experience at Charlie's Trio! The food was delicious and the service was truly outstanding from start to finish. We hosted a small celebration for my son's paramedic graduation, and the staff went above and beyond--they even made a cute custom sign for the occasion, which was such a thoughtful touch. I also arrived a little earlier than expected, and they were incredibly accommodating without any hesitation. For the last three years, almost every Friday night, a friend and I have gone to Charlie's Trio. We usually spend between $60 and $80. Tonight, may have been the last time we go. We usually get there around 4:30, so the restaurant is not usually busy. Tonight, we went in and there were three or four regular tables open and they were setting up a big party table in the middle of the main room. All the open tables had been bussed. When we approached the hostess, she said, "can I take your name, we will be with you in a few minutes." I looked around, and asked, "have you started taking reservations now?" Since there were open tables and no people standing around I thought maybe they were waiting for people who had reserved a table. She said, "no just walk-ins." She said it would be 15 to 20 minutes. I realized there were no other people waiting, so we ask again if we could sit at one of the tables over in the corner and she said, "yes, in about 15 minutes." I went to talk to the manager. Nothing he said made sense. He said they were waiting for other people who were ahead of us. There was nobody waiting and there were open tables. Multiple open tables. I thought possibly they were down a couple of servers, but I saw all the usual servers there. I am diabetic, and I take medication before I eat. I usually plan the time I go to a restaurant (early, before they get busy) so my medication will have kicked in when I start to eat. I even shared that with the manager and he said they would seat us in a little while. We decided to leave. My friend went in and told the manager that we would not be coming back. That makes me incredibly sad. It makes me even sadder that the manager did not even apologize or explain. Do kitchens get backed up? Yes. They were expecting a big party. Is there a reason they could not have seated us and then told us that they were busy and that it would be a while? Of course they could've seated us. I don't know what was going on and they didn't make any effort to explain. It was our favorite place to go for dinner and I often recommended it to other people, I would take people from out of town there to eat. Went there for dinner with friends but happened to get there early enough for their Monday - Friday happy hour that was 4-6 pm., so we ordered off the HH menu. The food was amazing! Portions generous and everything was delicious. The ribs was a meal in itself as was the spaghetti and pizza! Mozzarella was definitely homemade and delicious and the calamari! Yum! We got in a 2nd order with minutes to spare lol. Prices were amazing and service was great! Loved the hustle and bustle but also the ambiance of a nice family restaurant or date night place. Small parking lot in the back, very narrow or street parking. They have a bar area where people can eat and watch the game that is on their tv. Their host station can be seen from both the front entrance and the back entrance. It was a casual atmosphere and a family environment. They had a happy hour menu and provided free bread as you wait for your food. Their broasted chicken was crispy and flavorful! I also forgot how large a large Ceasars salad was. The lettuce was crisp, cold, and the seasoning was just right! My friend really enjoyed the salad! I also enjoyed their mozzarella cheese sticks! I've been a fan of Charlie Trio for years, and it never disappoints! Every time I come, I'm reminded why I love this place so much the food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care. This time I went with a friend for dinner, and I decided to try something new the Southwest Pasta, which my husband always orders. Oh my goodness... it was SO delicious! Creamy, perfectly seasoned, and full of flavor I think it's going to be my new favorite from now on My friend ordered the same dish, and she completely agreed. We waited about 25 minutes to be seated, but it was definitely worth the wait. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was great as always. What I also love about Charlie Trio is the cozy and relaxed atmosphere it's quiet enough to enjoy a nice conversation but still has a warm, inviting vibe. Sorry to leave this review. I was here about 2 years ago with friends. Wanted to revisit for a ladies lunch June 4 2026. Of course I ordered the chicken since my last visit it was memorable. Unfortunately this visit yielded dry chicken and 2 sad overcooked potato wedges. I didn't even finish. Only coleslaw was worthy of finishing. My friend ordered a Mac ball appetizer. I dont recommend but the red sauce it was in did pass a tasty check. No one at my table finished the food. Service was so so. I only had water, but that was never refilled by our lone waitress. Maybe that was the problem? I saw her having to work the bar and some of the dining I had to take the tip to the bar to make sure she ( waitress) got her cash tip. What a treat, I was in the area for an early morning showing and lucky for me this was around the block. Made it just in time before a Saturday lunch rush sat at the bar ordered water a glass of white wine "Thomas Henry" tasty and a Ceaser salad. Listen I'm not sure if saying it was a delightful treat is even fair because I even scraped the dressing with my bread off the plate Lol! The small portion is a lot so if you're sharing I would say you can do this one for two and the Large for three. Shout to Ana she was great , stop hurting them Lol soccer players do cry a lot. Over the past four years several friends and I have been getting together at Charlie's Trio for dinner. One of these friends and I have been patrons since it was Big Man Pizza in the early 70s. Have come here several times for lunch. Food is consistently good. Our usual is the meatball sandwich which I highly recommend. I like to compare meatball sandwiches from different restaurants and Charlies version is on top of my list. This last time we ordered antipasto salad (small) and was enough to share for 2. I come here not only for great food but the service is also consistently good. I bring my sister who is suffering from moderate stage dementia and servers are very patient with her and a special shout out to Somar who was extremely gracious last time we were here. Came to Charlie's for a late lunch. This was a friend's recommendation who lives nearby. Their service is superb. My wine glass was never empty. The bread kept on coming and I felt like I was at home eating comfort food. I ordered the slow braised short ribs. The sauce was a bit salty, however, the ribs were very tender. My wife ordered the BBQ spare ribs. They were excellent and fall off the bone tender. Their fries are very tasty too. Their wine pours are very generous. I would definitely come back again. As regular customers of Charlie's Trio, my family and I were extremely disappointed with how disorganized and poorly communicated everything was on Mother's Day. The day before Mother's Day, I specifically called the restaurant to ask about reservations for a party of 9. The woman I spoke to told me that reservations were only being taken for the Mother's Day brunch buffet (10 AM or 12 PM), but that if we wanted the regular menu instead, we could simply come in as walk-ins at any time. Based on that information, we planned our Mother's Day lunch there. When we arrived today, we were suddenly told by the man at the front that they were ONLY seating customers with brunch buffet reservations and were not seating anyone for the regular menu at all. When I explained what we had been told over the phone the day before, he apologized but said there was nothing he could do. It was incredibly frustrating and honestly embarrassing to bring my family there for Mother's Day only to be turned away because of misinformation given directly by the restaurant staff. The entire situation felt chaotic, unorganized, and poorly planned. We've supported Charlie's Trio many times before, but after this experience, we'll seriously reconsider whether we return. read more

I'd always wanted to try the broasted chicken here, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The four of us visited on a recent Sunday to check out the brunch menu. Two of us ordered the chicken and waffles, which were absolutely delicious. Another friend enjoyed her breakfast burrito, but unfortunately, the pozole was quite bland and a letdown for our other friend. The broast chicken, however, was the star of the meal. It tasted like top-notch fried chicken but is uniquely pressure-cooked, which made it even better. I'd happily return for the chicken and am also curious to try their pasta dishes, especially the lasagna. Service was prompt, and our water glasses were refilled frequently, which was nice. The lady behind the bar on the restaurant side is a racist, period. She kept staring at me and mouthing to my waiter in a nasty way for an entire time from the moment i stepped into the restaurant. Her attitude & behavior was degrading & demeaning to a patron like myself. I ordered the chicken & waffle , The chicken was pipping hot and tasty but the waffle was burnt, cold & hard. I commented to the waiter the waffle on my plate was cold & hard at the check out when I saw another patron was having her nice & fluffy waffle. Can't believe it's been almost 15 years since my last review, but it definitely hasn't been that long since we've eaten here. The broasted chicken To-Go has been a favorite since COVID. Had lunch with friends here today and it was wonderful. Our server was excellent, We had: Broasted chicken lunch (4pc) - always delicious, served piping hot with those giant potato wedges. The breast was too dry for my taste but the leg, thigh and wing were perfect. The Casalinga Calzone - Oh my, this is some damn fine bread stuffed with mozzarella and pepperoni, served with a ladle of red sauce. This calzone was so big, I could eat only half. A cozy, family-friendly, full-service restaurant right in my neighborhood! My boyfriend and I always pass by Charlie's Trio on Hungtinton; we finally decided to try them out for a night. I always saw big families and groups coming out of this restaurant fully laughing and patting their stomachs and I totally get why now. The waitresses and waiters here are so friendly and welcoming. I went back and forth on different menu options and dessert choices and our waitress was so patient with me. My boyfriend and I got a Trio Combo to share, a Spaghetti, and Fettuccine to share. I couldn't finish my portion because it was so filling so we packed it up and got dessert to go with it too. Haha! Their carrot cake and tiramisu are top notch too! I was so happy and full exiting the restaurant and it reminded me of the countless people I've seen walking out rubbing their bellies haha, now I am one of them! Decent pizza, good beer, great service = happy weeknight gathering. Our South Pas friends suggested Charlie's Trio as a place to eat dinner and hang out, so my wife and I came up from LBC on a Monday night and met as 3 couples around 6 pm. I'm always on the lookout for great pizza, and with the longevity of this location (since 1971!), was pretty confident that the food would be good. There were still parking spots in their private lot around 5:30, but could see how it would get full on busier nights. We needed to be a complete party before we could be seated, so hung out in the comfortable waiting area. There is decent indoor seating, and we were comfortably able to sit as a party of six, with the food being able to be reachable for all parties. It took our party a bit of time to coordinate our orders, but our waitress was very patient They have a very good selection of draft beers, but unfortunately don't do pitchers, so ended up ordering pints and became the biggest part of our bill (which probably explains why they don't do pitchers). The Ogopogo Boeman is a Belgian Wheat ($8) and was very easy to drink. The Fort Point Kolsh ($9) was refreshing, great with pizza. We also got a Baja Escorpion Negro ($9), which unfortunately didn't get a chance to sample, Appetizers was a large spinach salad ($14.25), which was excellent (I loved the vinaigrette, with large chunks of blue cheese and candied pecans). The Trio Combo ($19) included an OK fried mozzarella wedges, OK buffalo style chicken wings, and a really good deep fried squid rings. For pizzas, we got 2 14 inch hand tossed, signature crust pizzas: sausage ($19.25) and their famous Big Man ($26.25 for pepperoni, ham, mushroom, onion, green bell peppers, olive). They were OK, very similar to a lot of the hand tossed pizzas in the area. The dough was good, and the toppings were fresh...next time, I would try their thin crust version. There were enough food for leftovers. The night ended with a complementary slice of tiramisu, which was shared by everyone. We did miss happy hour (over at 6pm). They close at 9 pm, and our group ended up going past that, but we felt welcomed throughout our stay. Charlie's Trio is definitely a nice place to hang out. read more

Charlie's Trio is a family favorite. We dine-in and order takeout often. Eleven of us went yesterday for Mother's Day and they did not disappoint. Even with such a large group, we were seated quickly and made to feel comfortable. The food, as usual, was cooked to perfection and a good time was had by all. Some of my favorite dishes are the broasted chicken & waffles, fettuccine Alfredo, linguine & clams, herb crusted pork chop, and the bbq pork spare ribs. The bottomless mimosas are also very good and not filled with a lot of orange juice like some restaurants tend to do. The only thing keeping me from giving them five stars is they do not accept reservations. Other than that, they're a solid restaurant that serves up hearty meals that don't break the bank. read more
