Corner entry to the famous kitchen!

Gancia's Craft Kitchen deserves ............... a Michelin Review! I mean -- Wow! Talk about comfort food that's SO GOOD... I literally sat back in my chair to close my eyes and had a Ratatouille moment ( yes, that happy place). Nestled near the southeast end of El Sereno and close to CalState LA, Gancia's is an approved kitchen in a residential area. Their entry welcomes you to sit and dine in their comfy backyard setting, or you can order online and pick up to go. But, If you stay, you'll be treated to complimentary beverages:) I didn't get food pictures because I was so in it! Trust the other reviews and listen to Food Fridays on LAist to hear their review and full interview. I'll just say -- I'm a fan and I'll be Back!

My partner has had her eye on this place for a few months, and we finally had a chance to go. California passed a law last year that allows home kitchens to be a public facing restaurant (with certain stipulations that I'm not familiar with). So, this is someone's home - Gina and Jason's home, to be specific. We weren't sure we were in the right place when we parked and walked up, and were reassured by the "Gancia" and "Open" sign on their gate. As we walk to the back alongside the house, we saw that they put out books for the taking (we took a couple of them), and they have tables and seating outside. Each table comes with its own QR code, and you just sit and order. It's super chill, and Gina and Jason make you feel right at home! This is literally going to someone's backyard to get fed. We got the breakfast biscuit sando and I got it with the pork sausage (they were out of turkey) and avocado, and I think this was the best biscuit sandwich I've had in at least the last decade. It is so flavorful and fresh, the biscuits are probably baked the day of (pretty sure, didn't confirm, but I can't see how it's any other way because...), and they are deliciously light and fluffy. They give you TWO eggs and TWO sausage patties kind of interspersed, and the avocado and the sauce just complimented all of it. My partner got a breakfast burrito, which she got with eggs, avocado, and beans, and it comes with salsa. We also got an assortment of pickled chilis (which have a good kick to them). We also got a salad (Gina told us we were the second people ever to order the salad), and it added the perfect cool, crisp acidity that we needed to balance all of this out. Drinks are complimentary (what?!), and they had an assortment of options - sodas and soda water, coffee and tea (with various milk and non-dairy, and sugar options), and OJ. I had some coffee with oatmilk and something called vanilla sugar (I guess it's sugar infused with vanilla?), and with the meal, just YUM. The prices are beyond reasonable (like, I had sticker shock, but in the pleasantly surprised way). They also have a single-stalled bathroom available. They do events and pop-ups as well. Can't wait for our next trip here!

Found a true hidden gem today in El Sereno! Gancia's Craft Kitchen is serving full-on restaurant-quality food out of a house, and it absolutely delivers. I learned that on weekends they offer dine-in service, while weekdays are takeout only. I ordered online and was given an exact pickup time, which made curbside pickup quick and seamless. For food, I went with the breakfast sandwich--a flaky buttermilk biscuit stacked with two sausage patties, a fried egg, and cheese. It was massive and easily filling on its own. That said, I couldn't resist adding the French toast platter, and I'm glad I did. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Gancia's has officially earned a spot in my local rotation of great restaurants. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

UPDATE APRIL 2026: I have been back a few times and have had everything from burgers, to breakfast burritos, to my new favorite, the Veggie Breakfast Bowl. (It turns out you can have any burrito turned into a bowl!) and the Avocado Toast. Also I've had a couple of their pastries and they have all been great. I'm still stunned and surprised every time when I get such incredible food for such a reasonable price. This is definitely a go-to place!

What a wonderful place. Fabulous food and drink. But the best part was the people. It's like going to your friends house and hanging out while they make incredible elevated burritos, avocado toast, cinnamon rolls and biscuits. No rush, just relax! It gives that feeling you get when you're on vacation!! I'm sure I'll be back!

We enjoyed three delicious meals together. The owners were incredibly welcoming. The prices are very reasonable for the high-quality food they provide. We started our meal with complimentary coffee and a delicious, fresh maple pecan sticky bun. Plus, all drinks--sodas, coffee, water, and orange juice--were on the house. The giant Andouille Sausage Breakfast Burrito was so delicious, their in house fries inside the burrito is amazing , and the tortilla was perfectly toasted. The Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich was one of the best breakfasts items I've ever had. They make their pork sausage patties in-house, and the buttery biscuit is on its own mouth watering. Finally, the Brioche French Toast platter was also fantastic. It comes with your choice of cooked eggs and protein. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and not over or undercooked. Perfection if you are an egg lover. We're excited to try their lunch soon!

Amazing food! Friendly service! I had the chipotle bacon burrito. Definitely the best burrito I've ever had. Can't wait to try more.

Not sure why there was a guy working on a greasy low boy near the outdoor seating. It's got a family chill vibe for sure. Decor is dated but it's ok. I haven't been to Marie Callender's in a couple of years, and I had a really good experience here…read morerecently. We skipped lunch and had a late dinner around 8 pm., so we were very hungry. When we arrived, we were happy to find out that it was happy hour until closing at 9 pm. We ordered two appetizers, which were half off during happy hour. We got the buffalo wings and the spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips. Both were delicious. The wings were crispy and flavorful. The spinach and artichoke dip wasn't as thick as I wanted it to be,, which concerned me for a second, but the minute I tried it, I loved it and couldn't stop eating it. The tortilla chips were crispy and had what I think was paprika seasoning. It was a huge serving and we had leftovers but ran out of chips. I asked if I could purchase a side of chips to go, but they just gave me some and didn't charge me. We also ordered the mini chicken pot pie combo, which came with a Caesar salad and a slice of pie. They had run out of the mini chicken pot pie, so they gave us a large pot pie instead without charging us extra. The pot pie was really good and had a thick filling. On my previous visits, the pot pie was more on the watery side, so I was happy that this one was nice and thick. The Caesar salad was refreshing with crispy lettuce. We were so full that we got the slice of coconut cream pie to go. We ate it later and thought it was just okay. I wish it had more of a coconut flavor. Customer service was excellent. Our server was great and very attentive. We would definitely return here for happy hour again

Zero stars for the thermostat, it was humid and warm. They had a big fan on the west side of the main dining room. but my party of four were sweltering in a corner the fan failed to reach. Minus Zero stars for the gal behind the register at 1 pm. on Wednesday who couldn't be bothered to look up from her cell phone to greet customers, or answer questions, or provide any service to anyone who approached. The muffin/pie counter. If she was on a break, she might want to leave the register so there would be no expectation of service. If this place closes permanently, I can see why. Sad place -- nearly empty at midweek on a warm afternoon. But my friends enjoyed the pot pies, the pie and it was a great time so I'm assigning 5 stars because we were left alone to have a long three-hour reunion of old friends from high school days. Five stars for the nostalgia, of a restaurant that has seen better happier yummier days. If it's true, that corporate is closing this longtime location, the comfort food and pie will be missed.

It's about 78 to 80°F on a Friday a few minutes before 1 pm, surprisingly, it was low key--only a couple tables taken indoors by patrons and a set of guys on the patio. At the door, it said to seat ourselves & I immediately shot to the patio. The set up: once seated, the server comes with menus, you order & it's a sit down meal. Giselle was our friendly & attentive server, young & attentive. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito ($11.50) & I opted for build your own omelette $11.50 for a 3 egg omelette & choice of two items- mushroom and bell peppers accompanied with breakfast potatoes, and chilaquiles ($13.99) to share. The patio seating is fresh, airy, there are tables, outdoor furnitures (sofas) and bright orange umbrellas for shade. My photos captured these elements. The food arrived shortly, although not all at once. I didn't mind it all because the ambiance was so soothing with the sound of birds chirping away and the background of other patrons talking. The only complaint from Hubby was too many pototo chunks in his burrito. My omelette was hot, fresh ingredients, delectable & the potatoes were mixed with 3 colors of bellpeppers. Oh and the chilaquiles? Pretty darn good! The tortilla chips were crispy, perfect amount of green salsa, freshly diced onions & a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Was I famished or was it that good that I devoured everything? What's left was Hubby's potato chunk discards. Giselle returned a few times to ensure our experience is to our satisfaction & another staff also stopped by to check on us. Such a perfect meal & day-- I'm so happy with this visit. I arrived in Alhambra one Sunday afternoon with the intention to hit 4 food spots to redeem free offers. They are part of the 24 participating restaurants in the food passport. I only got to two places and Popping Yolk Cafe (PYC) was one of them. PYC was number 6th stamp in my food passport! Free parking was easy at the Mosaic Parking Structure (4 hours limit). Very short walk from parking to restaurant. First time at PYC. I was lucky to get here thirty minutes prior to closing time. They specialize in breakfast and brunch only. Their free passport offer is 1 Benedict Entree or 1 French Toast Entree. Dine in only and no substitutions. Thanks PYC! Interior space was quite nice and vibey. Tables were clean. Ambiance was relaxing and cozy. Love the beautiful yellow decor! Plenty of inside seating with no exterior seating. Mia was the young lady staff who welcomed me with a friendly greeting and took my order. She was super nice, patient, and helpful. Other staff members were cordial and attentive. Thanks Mia and All! WOW, what a super amazing free food offer! I didn't hesitate and got the Avocado Benedict. Both eggs were perfectly poached. Avocado was just ripe. Ham slices were thick and tasty. Hollandaise sauce was rich and buttery with a bit of tangy taste. Just one small gripe, the english muffin did not appear to have been toasted. It was tough to cut through. Other than that, it was a fantastic benedict entree for a first timer like myself. I was feeling hungry so I also got an order of Ube French Toast and one Mango Green Tea (refillable). Another WOW, delicious house ube filling in a deep-fried toast topped with semi-sweet coconut flakes and fresh blueberries along with a drizzle of maple syrup and condensed milk. VERY YUMMY! This one is a winner! Mango green tea had deep tropical and tea flavors... nice drink! Menu has a great variety of egg benedicts and crunchy french toasts along with sandwiches, omelettes, burgers, crepes, waffles, pancakes, salad, and snacks. Prices were reasonable for the huge portions. Highly recommend! Love to return to try their other specialty breakfast and brunch items. I just need to get here early.
