Gancia's Craft Kitchen is a makeshift home kitchen and is part of the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) program which allows LA County residents to legally sell meals and drinks from their homes. The kitchen is operated and co-owned by wife Gina Garcia Gancedo (who worked as the pastry chef at Nickel Diner) and husband Jason Gancedo (who worked as the executive chef at Cole's). [Parking]: Residential street parking only and I didn't have an issue finding an available spot on Sunday. [Ambiance]: The backyard has been turned into a makeshift outdoor patio dining area. There is a bathroom available for use inside the house. There is also a small bookshelf at the entrance with free books for kids or adults to read. [Ordering]: Our party walked in, found an available table, scanned a QR code on the table to view the menu (no app required), and placed an order. The kitchen offers complimentary beverages like orange juice, coffee, soda, and water (donations are appreciated but not required). Customers can pick from an assortment of mugs to fill with black coffee or orange juice. They also accept takeout orders via their website. My partner has had her eye on this place for a few months, and we finally had a chance to go. California passed a law last year that allows home kitchens to be a public facing restaurant (with certain stipulations that I'm not familiar with). So, this is someone's home - Gina and Jason's home, to be specific. We weren't sure we were in the right place when we parked and walked up, and were reassured by the "Gancia" and "Open" sign on their gate. As we walk to the back alongside the house, we saw that they put out books for the taking (we took a couple of them), and they have tables and seating outside. Each table comes with its own QR code, and you just sit and order. It's super chill, and Gina and Jason make you feel right at home! This is literally going to someone's backyard to get fed. We got the breakfast biscuit sando and I got it with the pork sausage (they were out of turkey) and avocado, and I think this was the best biscuit sandwich I've had in at least the last decade. It is so flavorful and fresh, the biscuits are probably baked the day of (pretty sure, didn't confirm, but I can't see how it's any other way because...), and they are deliciously light and fluffy. They give you TWO eggs and TWO sausage patties kind of interspersed, and the avocado and the sauce just complimented all of it. My partner got a breakfast burrito, which she got with eggs, avocado, and beans, and it comes with salsa. We also got an assortment of pickled chilis (which have a good kick to them). We also got a salad (Gina told us we were the second people ever to order the salad), and it added the perfect cool, crisp acidity that we needed to balance all of this out. Drinks are complimentary (what?!), and they had an assortment of options - sodas and soda water, coffee and tea (with various milk and non-dairy, and sugar options), and OJ. I had some coffee with oatmilk and something called vanilla sugar (I guess it's sugar infused with vanilla?), and with the meal, just YUM. The prices are beyond reasonable (like, I had sticker shock, but in the pleasantly surprised way). They also have a single-stalled bathroom available. They do events and pop-ups as well. Found a true hidden gem today in El Sereno! Gancia's Craft Kitchen is serving full-on restaurant-quality food out of a house, and it absolutely delivers. I learned that on weekends they offer dine-in service, while weekdays are takeout only. I ordered online and was given an exact pickup time, which made curbside pickup quick and seamless. For food, I went with the breakfast sandwich--a flaky buttermilk biscuit stacked with two sausage patties, a fried egg, and cheese. It was massive and easily filling on its own. That said, I couldn't resist adding the French toast platter, and I'm glad I did. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Gancia's has officially earned a spot in my local rotation of great restaurants. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area. read more

We enjoyed three delicious meals together. The owners were incredibly welcoming. The prices are very reasonable for the high-quality food they provide. We started our meal with complimentary coffee and a delicious, fresh maple pecan sticky bun. Plus, all drinks--sodas, coffee, water, and orange juice--were on the house. The giant Andouille Sausage Breakfast Burrito was so delicious, their in house fries inside the burrito is amazing , and the tortilla was perfectly toasted. The Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich was one of the best breakfasts items I've ever had. They make their pork sausage patties in-house, and the buttery biscuit is on its own mouth watering. I just had the greatest burger, fries and pie I've ever had in one place! In fact, as soon as I finished at 12:15pm, I re-ordered for two more burgers and fries at 6:05pm. Went here today on a Saturday with my wife and two toddlers. We were greeted by signs that encouraged us to help ourselves to some complimentary drinks, that included coffee, juice, sparkling water, sodas and teas. They were super accommodating and sweet about setting the kids up with a bunch of toys, chalk, books etc. and it really took a load off of us, which reduces the typical stress involved with taking toddlers to eat out. We ordered a biscuit with miso butter, a breakfast biscuit sandwich, a breakfast plate with French toast, a breakfast plate with blueberry pancakes and a side of refried beans. Everything was top notch, but there were items that I thought were as good as they could possibly be: the scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked with high quality eggs that had a nice deep orange yolk, resulting in decadent bites. The breakfast sausage was great and not as fatty mouthfeel as the typical breakfast sausages at a diner. The biscuit was fluffy and great with the miso honey butter. The pancakes were fluffy with that flavor we all chase. Okay so the food is great, but the other really incredible part about this place is the reasonable prices. The drinks are complimentary but we tipped, although it's not necessary (as stated on a sign). The breakfast plates cost around 11 dollars and I'm talking 2 pancakes a couple pieces of sausage and great eggs. The biscuit and miso butter was like 2.50. It's not cheap prices, but it's great value and fair. I saw a meme where a guy said, "here I am thinking I'm bad with money when all I did was buy myself lunch". I can relate to that. I live in Alhambra, am a sole provider of a family of four and I like many people nowadays are starting to say that we cannot afford to eat out anymore. It seems harder and harder to eat out, and it seems like there is a short list of places with reasonable prices, like In n out, Yama sushi, maybe the sprouts deli sandwich or coupons from Blaze or the habit. The thing that's crazy is I believe we clearly have two chefs, who are making high level dishes, without compromising on quality, and have thought very hard about how to price dishes to a community while still hopefully being able to turn a profit. I think it speaks to the level of care, thoughtfulness and intention that they exhibit. For the quality of food served, the welcoming environment, reasonable prices, and everything else, this is the best restaurant I've been to in this area. read more

This is my 2nd time at this home kitchen diner in El Sereno. The first time was for a social gathering but the second time, I wanted to check out its menu as a home diner. It was easy to find and parking was not a problem. You go in through the driveway and sit down if there is space. You order through a QR code and someone will show up with your order. The QR code links your table to the order. Personally, I prefer to see a friendly face greeting you in a home kitchen environment but it is what it is. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and fries. The hearty sandwich was on the fluffiest biscuit and the sausage, eggs, and sauce were nicely layered. Once I bit into it, it was messy deliciousness. I definitely recommend this place! Overall, I love that it is situated in a quiet neighborhood, the prices are very reasonable, the menu is limited but has something for everyone, and the family owners do make you feel at home.
