    Breakfast biscuit sando with avo
    Cynthia W.

My partner has had her eye on this place for a few months, and we finally had a chance to go. California passed a law last year that allows home kitchens to be a public facing restaurant (with certain stipulations that I'm not familiar with). So, this is someone's home - Gina and Jason's home, to be specific. We weren't sure we were in the right place when we parked and walked up, and were reassured by the "Gancia" and "Open" sign on their gate. As we walk to the back alongside the house, we saw that they put out books for the taking (we took a couple of them), and they have tables and seating outside. Each table comes with its own QR code, and you just sit and order. It's super chill, and Gina and Jason make you feel right at home! This is literally going to someone's backyard to get fed. We got the breakfast biscuit sando and I got it with the pork sausage (they were out of turkey) and avocado, and I think this was the best biscuit sandwich I've had in at least the last decade. It is so flavorful and fresh, the biscuits are probably baked the day of (pretty sure, didn't confirm, but I can't see how it's any other way because...), and they are deliciously light and fluffy. They give you TWO eggs and TWO sausage patties kind of interspersed, and the avocado and the sauce just complimented all of it. My partner got a breakfast burrito, which she got with eggs, avocado, and beans, and it comes with salsa. We also got an assortment of pickled chilis (which have a good kick to them). We also got a salad (Gina told us we were the second people ever to order the salad), and it added the perfect cool, crisp acidity that we needed to balance all of this out. Drinks are complimentary (what?!), and they had an assortment of options - sodas and soda water, coffee and tea (with various milk and non-dairy, and sugar options), and OJ. I had some coffee with oatmilk and something called vanilla sugar (I guess it's sugar infused with vanilla?), and with the meal, just YUM. The prices are beyond reasonable (like, I had sticker shock, but in the pleasantly surprised way). They also have a single-stalled bathroom available. They do events and pop-ups as well. Can't wait for our next trip here!

Found a true hidden gem today in El Sereno! Gancia's Craft Kitchen is serving full-on restaurant-quality food out of a house, and it absolutely delivers. I learned that on weekends they offer dine-in service, while weekdays are takeout only. I ordered online and was given an exact pickup time, which made curbside pickup quick and seamless. For food, I went with the breakfast sandwich--a flaky buttermilk biscuit stacked with two sausage patties, a fried egg, and cheese. It was massive and easily filling on its own. That said, I couldn't resist adding the French toast platter, and I'm glad I did. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Gancia's has officially earned a spot in my local rotation of great restaurants. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

UPDATE APRIL 2026: I have been back a few times and have had everything from burgers, to breakfast burritos, to my new favorite, the Veggie Breakfast Bowl. (It turns out you can have any burrito turned into a bowl!) and the Avocado Toast. Also I've had a couple of their pastries and they have all been great. I'm still stunned and surprised every time when I get such incredible food for such a reasonable price. This is definitely a go-to place!

What a wonderful place. Fabulous food and drink. But the best part was the people. It's like going to your friends house and hanging out while they make incredible elevated burritos, avocado toast, cinnamon rolls and biscuits. No rush, just relax! It gives that feeling you get when you're on vacation!! I'm sure I'll be back!

Amazing food! Friendly service! I had the chipotle bacon burrito. Definitely the best burrito I've ever had. Can't wait to try more.

The most comforting and delightful egg cheese, and sausage biscuit you're gonna ever experience.

We enjoyed three delicious meals together. The owners were incredibly welcoming. The prices are very reasonable for the high-quality food they provide. We started our meal with complimentary coffee and a delicious, fresh maple pecan sticky bun. Plus, all drinks--sodas, coffee, water, and orange juice--were on the house. The giant Andouille Sausage Breakfast Burrito was so delicious, their in house fries inside the burrito is amazing , and the tortilla was perfectly toasted. The Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich was one of the best breakfasts items I've ever had. They make their pork sausage patties in-house, and the buttery biscuit is on its own mouth watering. Finally, the Brioche French Toast platter was also fantastic. It comes with your choice of cooked eggs and protein. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and not over or undercooked. Perfection if you are an egg lover. We're excited to try their lunch soon!

Triple-Fried Fries! Classic Crowd Pleaser Burger! Chocolate Chip AND Oatmeal Raisin Cookies! And the to-die-for Mini Mixed Berry Pie!

This time my husband got the Granada which was recommended to us by Henry and I got my usual Legendary. Both sandwiches were packed with meat/ chicken and on top of that they both came out hot and ready to devour. The bread was succulent and a good amount of mayo and ketchup was added. All in all this is the experience we had been wanting to have and I'm so glad we went back. Thank you to Henry, again, for going out of his way to make us feel welcomed and well attended. However, I went for a second time yesterday and was deeply disappointed. The owner wasn't there and instead a younger girl took my order and prepared the food. Everything seemed well and fine until I got home, opened my patty melt and found not 1 but 2 long hairs in my sandwich! They were clearly her hairs since she was the only one who handled my food. I went back and returned everything. I didn't see a hair in my other sandwich but couldn't even eat it without thinking what could be in each bite. The same girl was there when I returned and a young guy. I spoke with the guy and he gave me a refund right away and apologized. The girl who had made my food was maybe 5 feet away and couldn't even turn around to look at me or apologize. Very disappointing since the owner seemed like a nice guy who probably works extremely hard to build and maintain his business, only to have it ruined by some employee who couldn't even care enough to take 5 sec to put on a hair net. Shame on her.

The macadamia pancake was a massive amount of vanilla custard with a stingy amount of macadamia nut sprinkled on it. If you love massive amounts of custard, then this is for you. Unfortunately the custard did not compliment the pancakes but rather overwhelmed them. I have a favorite Hawaiian food spot in Lawndale and will make the trip as it is definitely worth it.

They also seemed totally understaffed because we only saw one server working the whole floor, and it was quite busy, especially on Mother's Day, so it took quite a while just to order. They had AYCE Brunch but closed at 2 p.m. We got there around 1-ish, so we skipped the AYCE Brunch. We ordered the Honey Ginger Glazed Salmon ($24.99), Mini Chicken Pot Pie Combo ($17.99), Albacore Tuna Melt ($16.99), Onion Rings ($1.99), and the Artichoke & Mushroom Chicken Dinner ($29.99). As for the food, the Honey Ginger Glazed Salmon had an okay glaze, but the salmon itself was a bit dry. The Mini Chicken Pot Pie combo came with a Caesar salad and a free slice of apple pie, but the pie was way too soft, and the pot pie texture wasn't nearly as good as the one I had at Moffett's in Arcadia, despite having a flaky crust. The Albacore Tuna Melt was actually pretty decent with the melted cheese, avocado, tomato, and bacon on sourdough, and the onion rings were good and crispy. Finally, the Artichoke & Mushroom Chicken Dinner came with a pretty good potato cheese soup. I liked their flavorful rice pilaf, but the chicken breast itself was way too dry, and the coconut cream pie dessert had a completely wrong texture. Overall, between the slow service and the dry food, it just wasn't worth it. We are definitely skipping this location from now on.

Delightfully understated atmosphere with unique tiles throughout the decor, and we loved that we could hear each other talk and enjoy each other's company. Our server was amazing, she was so knowledgeable while being personable and extremely funny. I assume she's the cook's wife based on the other reviews - I arrived a little after my aunts, so I didn't get a full introduction since they had already secured a table and had ordered some drinks while looking over the menu. I had my eye on 3 different meat dishes - the Roasted Duck Breast, the New Zealand Lamb, and the Angus Beef Ribeye Steak - and my aunts also had each picked 1 of those, so we went family style, and it did not disappoint!! The chef knows how to cook each type of meat to perfection, and the searing pans are doing exactly what they need to be doing! The Roast Duck Breast was AMAZING as cooked to the recommended medium, with delicious crispy skin. The Angus Beef Ribeye Steak at medium rare was as tasty as it was gorgeous! And the New Zealand Lamb was PERFECTION, down to the bone. We also got the gourmet macaroni and cheese as an add-on side, since all the meals come with mashed potatoes and various veggies, and I was in heaven! As someone who used to work at the Disney Parks and frequented the steakhouses and other fine dining both here and in Orlando, Sage Bistro is giving Disney a run for its money when it comes to high-quality meat dishes! The prices reflect both the cut of the meats and the skill of preparation, with it averaging to about $50 each across the 3 of us, which is pretty reasonable for top-tier quality! The only thing I had to be careful about was that many of the dishes have mushrooms, and my throat gets itchy if I eat most mushrooms, so I had to avoid those dishes. During our meal, when I mentioned it to our server for future visits, she was great at noting which dishes could completely be modified to have no mushrooms while also being realistic about acknowledging the dishes that cannot be, which sadly includes the Braised Short Rib that sounds out of this world. But I can have the Beef Rib Soup, so I definitely want to try that next because I WILL BE BACK!!! They also offer takeaway, and were very generous in giving us each a coupon card to use for ordering through their website.

The patio seating is fresh, airy, there are tables, outdoor furnitures (sofas) and bright orange umbrellas for shade. My photos captured these elements. The food arrived shortly, although not all at once. I didn't mind it all because the ambiance was so soothing with the sound of birds chirping away and the background of other patrons talking. The only complaint from Hubby was too many pototo chunks in his burrito. My omelette was hot, fresh ingredients, delectable & the potatoes were mixed with 3 colors of bellpeppers. Oh and the chilaquiles? Pretty darn good! The tortilla chips were crispy, perfect amount of green salsa, freshly diced onions & a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Was I famished or was it that good that I devoured everything? What's left was Hubby's potato chunk discards.
