First thing's first: AMAZING service!!! My family was unfamiliar with Juk, and the waiter (I believe he was the owner or some kind of manager) was extremely helpful getting them acquainted with menu. He even put in a special order for veggie hotpot since my sister doesn't eat fish or meat. As for the food: excellent. We ordered the edamame appetizer, which is always a family favorite. For the entree, I ordered the spicy kimchee juk, my dad ordered bulgogi hotpot, my mom had softshell crab juk, and as aforementioned, my sister had veggie hotpot. On the outside it looks tiny, but it's more than you think ... Inside, the atmosphere is nice and welcoming, and overall comfortable. The menu offered a great selection of porridges including pumpkin and red bean! Which is pretty awesome :-) The price ranges vary, but most of the Juk costs 11.99. It's worth it though due to the nice size bowl they give you. The Juk itself was fantastic, it isn't overwhelming with flavor and they also provide garnishes that you can add (bean sprouts, mushrooms, and red spicy pepper sauce). I weep every time I remember how good this place is, and how far away from my home in San Antonio it is. Seriously, I think about it a lot. I mean come on, IT'S A JUK RESTAURANT! I've only had their chicken juk and the oyster/kimchi juk, because as soon as I tried the oyster juk I couldn't ever order anything else again. It's spicy, the oysters seem fresh (they give oyster shells out of a basket on the counter), and the kimchi comes through without overpowering the dish. The chicken is very mild comfort food, as it should be. I assume most of their flavors are more like that than the oyster juk, which reminds me more of Vietnamese rice porridge, more spicy and flavorful. I also like how thick their juk is, not too soupy but also not too much like risotto lol. YOU MUST TRY THEIR CINNAMON DRINK. Unfortunately I had a severe case of food poisoning on Friday night. As he was over and taking care of me on Saturday morning, my boyfriend browsed through my Yelp bookmarks and saw Charm Juk on my "To try" list. I'm not a huge fan of Juk, but my boyfriend is (and I bookmarked this place for him). Being Chinese, my family always taught me that Juk is a type of miracle food. The rice-based soup does wonders at cleaning out internal toxins and providing vitamins and nutrients. Therefore, my boyfriend used my sickness to get me to finally try out Charm Juk. Appearance: This is a very compact store in the corner that touches the far right entrance to H-Mart. To my surprise, this small place was very busy and almost all the tables were filled. The floors, chairs, and tables were very clean, and the bathrooms were spotless (bathrooms are great indicators of how clean the restaurant really is). My stomach felt more at ease when I saw that each table was equipped with a sign that said the Juk contained rice germ (very beneficial to your body) and contained absolutely no MSG. Service: The employees here are the main reason why I will come back. They were all very sincere and did a great job of helping us in a timely manner. They were prompt to clean the tables when customers left and often gave everyone warm smiles. When I didn't finish my bowl of Juk, one of the employees (the female one) packed it into a to-go container for me, instead of having me make a huge mess by attempting it myself. On top of that, she also gave me more side dishes to bring back home. I was very impressed. My boyfriend and I have visited fancier restaurants than this, but have received worse service. The employees here know how to go above and beyond to make your visit the best experience every time. Food: For those of you who are skeptical about eating Juk, the menu has more variety. There are options for children and also rice stone bowls. We didn't try them, but the pictures made them look very appealing (as they do at every restaurant). My boyfriend ordered the beef Juk and he loved it. The portions that they give you are huge, but he inhaled the entire bowl in a few minutes! I already mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of Juk. I ordered what appealed to me the most on the menu, and that was the Seafood Juk. I was very impressed with the presentation. The employees bring the food to you on an organized tray, which has your bowl of Juk, a smaller bowl to eat with, a large soup spoon, and 3 side dishes (Pickled mushroom slices, seasoned bean sprouts, and a mildly spicy sauce that's similar to Kimchi marinate). The side dishes are refillable, which is great because they taste amazing with your bowl of Juk. I personally like to mix my side dishes into my Juk and add a little bit of pepper for seasoning. I liked how they didn't skimp out on my seafood pieces and I received more shrimp than I had anticipated (which is great!). The best part was that the seafood in my Juk was not overcooked. My food poisoning subsided a lot after visiting Charm Juk. I'll come here again for the service and because the food is very beneficial for my body. The Juk is a bit pricey ($9.99 or higher per bowl), but the portions are so big that 2 people can share one bowl and still be satisfied. Definitely come here for a healthy meal and amazing service! Also the register counter has a little basket that's filled with pretty abalone shells. Feel free to take one and bring it home! Ok, so I'm not Korean, so I naturally tend to think this is a little different from what I'm accustomed. It is quite a bit thicker than Chinese congee but it was still flavorful and delicious. I tried the tendon & ginseng juk and it came out steaming hot to where I almost burnt my tongue, so be careful when you first get it (it's like rice magma, so wait a minute). The sides that went with it added so much more flavor to the juk, I almost asked for more of it. I did manage to find some ginseng in my bowl, but there was less ginseng flavor than I had imagined it would have. But I don't expect it to be full of ginseng, which can be expensive, for an $11.99 bowl of juk. I think it was a decent meal especially when it's freezing outside in the middle of January. I'll be back on one of those cold nights, especially if I need to carb load. read more

A MUST TRY! I'm crazy for even eating here when it is one hundred degrees outside, but this place has great juk and amazing service. I always come here when craving porridge and their roasted corn tea, mm. Tastes like hot water with a burnt taste at the end. I don't know how that even seems appetizing, but it does. I always order the oyster juk since it comes with shiitake mushrooms and my friend always orders the snow crab and broccoli cheese juk. Our bill always comes out very reasonable and I can't stress how peaceful this place is and how sweet the workers are! The juk also comes with sides that I don't really eat besides the bean sprouts. Being Vietnamese, I would really love it even more if there was fish sauce on the table but I have yet to ask the worker so maybe next time! The juk is fine without fish sauce but it IS a little bland. I love how it comes out scorching hot though. And for what you pay for, you get a good amount of product! When this place first opened, I never thought I would step in. To me porridge was always for the sick. But looks like today I was wrong. I guess porridge is for days when you feel like eating something light and healthy without breaking the bank. The hubs and I had the fish porridge and the sam gae juk. Both dishes came in a tray with a side of kimchi, spicy pickled vege and a pickled daikon soup. I personally preferred the fish porridge better. I thought it was more flavorful with a nice hint of sesame flavor. The sam gae juk could have a bigger boost of ginseng taste. While most of the Korean restaurants that I've been to have amazingly delicious eats, not too many of them have good customer service. Charm Juk has both. When I walked into the restaurant, the owner's daughter's smile was the first sight that met my eyes. She promptly offered me a menu, and when I asked if I could order "to-go", she simply answered me with "of course" and another smile. I informed her that it was my first time ordering from the restaurant, and the owner came out to offer me some suggestions. I was already "Charmed"with their great service , but the cherry on top was when the owner offered my son a piece of candy and carried a small conversation with him while we waited for our order. So, what, you may be asking by now, did you actually order and how was it? Well, I took home some seafood juk, which was packed nicely in a plastic container along with a petite set of side dishes. The porridge itself tasted fantastic, and the side dishes complimented the entree very well. Husband and I spotted Charm Juk a few weeks ago while leaving H-mart and heading the Meat place a few doors down. Charm Juk is adjacent to the side entrance of H-mart on the Yogurtland side, but is easy to miss since it's such a tiny place. Since we're currently living the Texas Hell experience, Husband refused to eat porridge until winter arrives. As if she could read my stomach, my food-buddy texted me an invite to try Charm Juk for lunch a few days later. Yes, please, I'll meet you there after work! Around 1:30pm on a HOT, SUNNY Thursday, there was one other diner and her child there. We sat as far away from the front door as possible to avoid any heat might enter with another patron. I ordered shrimp juk, which was very flavorful and went down wonderfully. The bowl arrives on a tray with a three small sides: kim chi, diced radish, and sauteed mushrooms. I'd definitely have the shrimp juk again, although I'd like to try either crab or fish next time. My friends ordered beef juk (very bland) and shrimp bibimbap (pretty good). All portions are very generous and can seem intimidating upon arrival. I guess i'm a healthy eater, because I finished my juk easily and was even able to try my friend's dishes. Mandoo is a great appetizer to start with. Came out hot and crispy. I got the spicy oyster juk. It was very flavorful and I loved every bite. It is pretty HUGE so it might be worth splitting between two people. Also tried the donkatsu which was pretty good also. It's not huge and the katsu is cut into strips, so it's easy to share. This place is so awesome. It's purely dedicated to making healthy rice porridge (juk), or if you are Chinese, the congee-equivalent. Perfect for a cold day or if you're hung over or if you stomach is upset, or all of the above. :) No MSG, organic rice, special rice that keeps the rice germ that the milling process takes out....I don't know what that means, but hey, it's got to be good for you. They have these "specialty" juks like "beauty juk" or "energy juk" with things like abalone or chicken & ginseng. I'm such a sucker for stuff like that. I ordered the Shiitake Mushroom and Organic Rice juk (I think it was the "immune system" juk) and the bf ordered the Seafood juk, both tasted so healthy yet so delicious. This restaurant is a cute cozy little place. This place was pack when we went since it was cooler outside. They have large selection of juk from vegan to meat and seafood lover, they even have organic juk. The hardest part about this restaurant is deciding what we want to eat. There juk reminds me of risotto since they use Korean rice, which it's fat oval shape compare to jasmine rice. It's still good, I got their sea food Juk, which the flavor is perfect and just the right amount of chunky sea food. My companion got their kim chi juk, which it's a little spicier then we thought. Overall experiences was good, just wish their price would be a little cheaper. Over $8 for a bowl of mush rice is a little expensive for my taste. read more

THIS PLACE IS SO SO GOOD! Highly recommend. Being Chinese, congee holds a special place in my heart. Well this restaurant makes the BEST congee of all time. I've tried the seaweed, abalone, mushroom, tendon congees/juks and everything is delicious! It comes with side dishes that really add flavor to your already flavorful juks. The only downfall I think is the price. I think this place is overpriced since it's the ingredients shouldn't be that expensive to make. I paid $28 for abalone juk and I felt like there wasn't that much abalone. And $12 for mushroom juk? It's extremely delicious but not worth the price to come all the time. Definitely come here though to try it, it's one of my favorite new restaurants in the Hmart area, albeit it's price factor. read more

Came here on the rainy election night and it was everything I needed; warm, healthy and delicious! I chose the Ginseng Chicken Porridge and my friend got the octopus porridge which was spicy. Both were more than enough so we had lunch for the next day and the banchan (side dishes) were good; they offered sautéed mushrooms, bean sprouts, and a little bit of pickled cucumber if I remember correctly. The server was very helpful in letting us know which bowls were the best options for first timers. This location is super convenient located right next to Super H Mart. This is a genuine congee house. It reminded me very much of those in Hong Kong except for the Korean style side dishes. They even have traditional "sweet soup" as the Cantonese would say. In the latter category, I suggest asking for Black Sesame (available but not on menu). read more

I ordered the beef juk, abalone juk, and kimchee oyster juk. Flavor is spot on, all my kids hates juk but when they got to try it they wouldn't let go. The baby loved it too and stole my bowl. I love congee! The waiter here recommended the chicken ginseng congee and the beef congee, but I opted for the spicy kimchi juk with shrimp. It was delicious! The portions are LARGE too! I wish we had a place like this in Houston. I recommend this kimchi juk to people who enjoy eating spicy foods. It's the type of spicy that makes you have to keep eating otherwise your mouth is burning. The consistency of the juk is thicker in comparison to juk that is more watered down and "soupy." I actually prefer the thicker consistency here than the soupy consistency at other places. If you're super hungry you can probably finish a whole bowl. I was only able to finish half of my bowl and brought the rest home. The kimchi and shrimp is evident, but they're not large by any means... (probably more medium to small sized). I wish I lived in Dallas so that I could come back during the cold months for more juk! They have so many different flavors! Highly recommend this place! read more

Delicious Korean congee! The restaurant is kept clean and their service is impeccable. I got the vegetarian congee and my husband got the oyster kimchi - both were really tasty! Be careful though. I realized that it is a porridge restaurant and I decided I wanted to try it one day because I have never had porridge. I came here with my man and he was not too excited about eating porridge on a hot day so we also ordered the crispy chicken potstickers. The sauces that were drizzled on top were delicious.
