I really enjoyed my experience at Yaya's last Thursday. We popped in around dinnertime before a nearby comedy show and sat at the bar. It's well-decorated for the holidays and feels cozy. Do note you'll probably need to keep your coat on sitting at the bar, as the door opens right on it without a buffer. Bartenders were so nice. They were out of our first choice for a cookie shot, so we ordered the peppermint patty shot. Well-named, very good. We also ordered two of their holiday cocktails, the drunken beef app, and later, pork fried rice to go (me, on a whim ha). The fried rice lasted me three meals and was soooo good. Prices were reasonable given the quality. I'd definitely stop back sometime!
A few friends and I came here after the movies for drinks. This was my first time here and I really appreciate that they let us come in despite the fact they were about to close soon so thank you guys! First of all I love the Christmas decor adorable! I had the margarita which was just how I like it, and shout out to the bartender for not watering it down as some places do. They also have Christmas themed shooters I had the candy cane which was not only visually appealing but absolutely delicious! I hope to come back and try the food, I was spying on the table next to us and whatever they had looked and smelled amazing! I'll be back!
I finally made it to Yaya's and I can't believe I waited so long to try it. Some friends and I met for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived before 5pm and got seated right away. I got a Rainbow roll and a Philly roll, and washed it down with a delicious drink that had a flower in the ice cube, so cool! The server was friendly and even though the restaurant was busy, she checked in with us often. By the time we left, the amount of people waiting to be seated was huge so it's best to get there early like we did.
I come here often (I love to stop in after a good movie). The YaYas roll is my absolute favorite. The Orange Chicken is also really good and when I recommended to a friend, they also really enjoyed it. This place is popular and can get very crowded. Ordering delivery will run you the risk of your order sitting out for an hour (happened to me twice, but I love that roll!) Don't order out, eat in and enjoy the ambiance.
one of the best (asian) meals and cocktails i've had in rva! everything from the sushi to the brussel sprouts to the thai curry was fantastic. every dish we had was flavored extremely well and was served hot and fresh. the service was also excellent - malaya was attentive and super friendly! my only complaint was the space is super small and a bit crowded - i got there at 4:15 and by 5pm it was packed and people were waiting in line to be seated which made the already tight space feel even more claustrophobic. the wait staff kept eyeing our table and made us feel rushed. however, the food quality and taste made it all worth it!
How have I missed this gem right in my neighborhood??? I visited yaya's for the first time on a Friday night where I typically avoid Shortpump. We met for our girls night gift exchange and happy hour around 5pm. We were greeted by two amazing host and a bartender who welcome us with such an awesome spirit. Also.... You wanna talk about Christmas spirit??? This definitely needs to be on your stop for Christmas bars in RVA! The decor is the cutest! We were sat and our server greeted us immediately with a Christmas inspired drink menu and ready to explain their menu to us as two of us were first timers. When in doubt I always order a Espresso martini with tequila and this did not fail me. I also enjoyed the Spanish mule and hot tea at the end with a shot of Burbon. I definitely thanked the bartender when I left. We had sushi as our apps and quickly found out why YaYa's is top rated in RVA for its sushi. When I say FRESH! We had the chicken tempura and the jambalaya rolls. For dinner some ordered rolls again which from the chatter at the table the YaYa roll with the flame cooked Filet Mignon on top is an instant Yes! I have a tree nut allergy so Thai and Asian food can be Tricky. I had the drunken noodles that I subbed the flat noodle for a rice noodle and added chicken and did level 3 spice. This was so delicious I've gone back twice this week for this order. The service and the food were amazing and I am most likely going to become a regular here! Can't wait to sit in the swing seats at the sushi bar. I highly suggest you add YaYa's to your RVA eats!
The fly flying and sitting on my food. When I told them, they have sent some one with a flat fly killing bat. ( what is it called? ) forgot. But there was ABSOLUTLY NO URGE to change my food. It was my birthday, I was very hungry after work, I ate those fly sitter sushi's. Sushi quality was not good either. Very dry rice. Eel was ok. The drink was good. That's the reason they got 3*
When I am in Richmond, I try to make it here because I love their food! We ended up going on a Weds evening and it was jampacked like it was a Friday night! We had to wait 30 minutes before being seated and there were no seats at the bar. We did not mind waiting because the food is very good and the staff is very friendly! Once we were seated, our food came out very quickly as normal. Our waitress was super friendly, which I appreciated because they were jampacked. I would recommend a reservation even during the weekday.
We came here after the movies on a whim, and parking on a Saturday night is hit-or-miss, depending on the theatergoers. We walked in not expecting much, and we were amazed at the speed and efficiency of the staff. This place seems like a happening place for the night crowd, lots of young men and women congregating at the bar. Our server was shy and quiet, but she was quick and efficient at her job. We ordered the Thai Iced Tea (quite literally the best I have ever had in my life) and the Drunken Noodles. I am a pad kee mao aficionado, and theirs were fantastic. The atmosphere was interesting, eclectic if I had to sum it up in a word. There were multiple seating genres, if that makes sense. We sat at the small four-top in the lower area, and the view of the whole restaurant was great for people watching if you're into that sort of thing. We came here with no expectations, and we were blown away. What a hidden gem; we certainly got our money's worth. Whole-hearted recommendation from both of us. Recently, while driving down Main Street, we noticed there will soon be a new location downtown as well, so we've got that to look forward to. read more
Yaya's Cookbook is one of my absolute favorite local Thai restaurants. My daughter & I ventured out there for Lunch this week & per usual we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. The service welcoming & attentive & the ambiance was boisterous but not overwhelming. We were seated in the Back dining area, which was quieter than the main dining room & we found being seated in this area worked well for us as we just wanted to relax, hang & talk. Every dining experience I have had at Yaya's has been enjoyable & this experience was no exception. I definitely recommend checking them out if you like Thai food & Sushi options. Their menu is quite expansive and overall very budget friendly. read more

It was so nice outside that we sat on the patio. The crowd was lively (graduation) and the place was packed but you could walk up and grab a seat or have a very short wait. We came for adult beverages but got a few appetizers to enjoy. YaYa's never misses!! read more

Integrity!! Renecca, manager noticed a guest left their credit card and she ran to the door to return it to the guest!! YaYa still has great food and service. Malaya was an attentive server. I still love the drunken noodles with chicken. Great food with honesty! read more

We had a hankering for some Orange Chicken, but wanted something different from the 500 take out restaurants in the city. We decided on YaYas. The first thing I noticed was how jam packed it was, which is a good sign. Surprisingly, there was no wait to get seated (tho, I think we did get the last table available. Sorry, group behind us). Our waitress was excellent. Our sodas never went less than half full. Our beer (her cider) came out quickly. We had the calamari as an appetizer, which was delicious! Really crispy, and the sauce was to die for. It wasn't a super large portion, but it worked out perfectly, because we had the orange chicken, and the portion was huge. And, I'm being perfectly truthful here, it was literally the best orange chicken I've ever had. The atmosphere was great. Very festive and colorful. A few too many hipsters eating there, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. This is the same group that owns MPM Tiki Bar, which is also amazing! 10/10, will definitely be back. read more
Visited Yaya's on a VERY busy Friday night for drinks and a good dinner. The bar was packed wall to wall with people, and tables were a 45 minute - hour wait. We were able to snag seats at the bar and ordered cocktails, and some custom mocktails. The bartender was great and made some delicious and creative mocktails. Service was good and we had no problem ordering food, which came fast, or getting water. The food - we had sushi, brussel sprouts, and Pad Thai. The Pad Thai came looking a little bit bare but wow! The flavor was amazing and was some of the best I've had in ages. I ate nearly the entire plate! Would highly recommend, but make sure to get there early to snag a table or you may be waiting a while for a seat, although it's well worth the wait! read more

I love Thai food but I always stick to pad see ew and drunken noodles. I have always been scared to try other things because I am picky. This day, my friends and I after doing some shopping at short pump mall decided to go get Thai food. They been here before and loved it. I haven't, my first time here. I am glad I went, it was a great experience! Nice ambiance and atmosphere. Staff are really nice and friendly. Food was delicious, a lot of options to choose from. I love Shirley temple drink and I think I had the best one here. For appetizers, we had Brussels sprouts, I was nervous about that at first because it has to be done really good for it to like Brussels sprout and that was the best I have had as well so far. The servers seems like a lot of fun, our server was very nice and interactive. He explained things to us and suggested meals to me since it was my first time there. I got pad thai and at first it was a little bit too sweet for me and I love spicy food so they gave me their spicy seasonings and it made the taste just right for me. I tried all my friends foods and they tasted really good as well. I think this place is my new favorite Thai restaurant. We went on a Saturday night. It seemed like a party there, crowded, people just having a good time, good vibes. I also like how the place it set up, small, nice and cozy. read more

I always love Yayas the food is always so tasty and comes out piping hot and fresh. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is festive and always bubbly. The Gold Rush Drink was just what I needed to knock out my cold! read more

I got the spicy beef bowl and the orange chicken. The bowl had a very good seasoning and variety of assorted vegetables. The beef however was cooked well done which made it tough to chew. The orange chicken was pretty good, it was both sweet and spicy (almost like a general tso, but not as soy based). Both dishes were about $17 each. The restaurant was a bit small and the service was very average. I personally think the place was a bit over hyped, but it's still good food nonetheless. I highly recommend Yaya's cookbook! It's our favorite spot. Everything I've tasted from the menu has been delicious. If you enjoy cocktails, be sure to sit at the bar for dinner and try one of their handcrafted drinks. The bartending staff is exceptionally talented and friendly, making for a great experience. We always have a wonderful time and can't wait to return soon! read more
Love coming here with my sushi-lover friends!!! We wanted to split our foods so we decided on starting out with the Thai Deviled Eggs (highly recommend) and their Sashami boat! As you can see with my photos, I have been here several times. This place is a place to keep coming back to and try everything off their list. Honestly, everything is and has been fantastic. The people are super friendly and the service is great. Oh! If you're crazy about Mangos, def try their sticky rice dessert (and if it is Mango season) - it's fabulous!!! I really enjoy their Thai Ceviche and any of their sashimi plates. Plenty of parking spots! (I would park across the street where Buffalo Wild Wings is because I think it's a much easier spot to get park and get out! read more
