We knew we were going to be in for a Thai treat. The biggest test for any Thai restaurant are beef salad, papaya salad and Pad Thai. Thai Gourmet did not disappointment. The flavors were spot on and authentic. It was so delicious that my oldest daughter did her happy dance when she tried the food. She knows because she spent some time in Thailand. I wish I can mind-meld you the deliciousness of Thai Gourmet but technology has not gotten there yet. So, you just have to visit Thai Gourmet Restaurant and experience it for yourself. The food left much to be desired, however. The vegetable curry puffs were spongy and crisp at the same time - strange texture - and the filling was flavorless. The fresh rolls were also hit and miss - the vegetables and shrimp were plentiful (great value) but the rice wrapper was chewy and tough and the dipping sauce was not very good. I dumped it out of the wrappers and ate it as a salad and to be fair it was very fresh and crispy but that shouldn't have to be done. The tom yum with chicken was disappointing. The broth tasted heavily of fish and some other unappetizing taste I can't put my finger on. It's spicy and when it first hits your tastebuds it's got the perfect blend of sour and heat, but the lingering flavor and aroma was just...bad. The cilantro (?) was wilted, the mushrooms soggy and the chicken did not taste good. I ended up not eating it at all. Finally, I do have to say that the Thai ice tea was the best I've ever had. Such a strange combination of good and bad with this place based on my experience tonight. I don't know if I'll be back but because of the staff and atmosphere it might be worth another look.
