Small indoor dining area
Don B.

Tucked in a strip mall in Rancho Bernardo sits Charm Thai Kitchen, a casual Thai restaurant. With seating indoor and outdoor, its relatively a small restaurant but the wait is not long at all. For starters, we ordered the Larb Gai which was great with its sour and distinct taste, great way to start the meal. For the mains, we ordered the Chow Mein Noodle with generous amounts of chicken and shrimp, great noodle dish. Chicken Pad Thai which is always a must when craving Thai. Loved this and tasted as expected. The Crab Fried Rice was a standout to me as you can really taste the crab come through on every bite. I would order this again in a heartbeat. For Curry, I just had to try the Panang Curry and I just love that coconut base as it covers the rice. Great dish for all the Panang Curry fans. Service was great and the food came out fast. Overall a wonderful spot for Thai cuisine serving fresh and high quality ingredients.

Food 5/5 Can't go wrong here, it is a little spicy but you can adjust the spicy levels! Service 10/5 The people who work here are extremely kind and accommodating they were quick to take my order and quick to prepare the food! Ambiance: 4/5 It is nice inside, I would say it is a perfect spot if you are craving some thai food or for a chill date! Accessibility: It is a bit hard to get to the bathroom but other than that the business is accessible

Drunken Noodles (4/5) -- take-away at home
Norbert K.

We wanted take-away Thai food for dinner this evening ... and we wanted delivery. So ... we found Charm Thai Kitchen through DoorDash. Glad we did ... on both counts. Our take-away dinner included two of our favorite Thai dishes: Green Curry with Pork and Brown Rice (4/5 $16.95); Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) with Pork (4/5 $16.95). Both dishes had generous amounts of sliced pork. Dinner arrived hot at the early end of our ETA.

This place is amazing and so delicious it's located in a little plaza near rancho bernardo and I genuinely consider it a hidden gem. I've had Pad thai and ze ew all over san diego and the one at this place is actually comparable to one of the most popular places we have here it's so delectable! Service was amazing and they have the most kind waiters and hosts they are truly so kind and helpful. Ambiance is also lovely with a small dining area and they play mukbang s and food prep in the background which is so perfect for someone who likes to watch while they eat! Highly recommend coming here and trying their ze ew!

Another great lunch at Charm Thai. I tried their Thai Green Curry with tofu for the first time and it was yummy! Level 6 was particularly spicy on Friday, but I had to finish it! Their lunch special comes with edamame and a fried veggie roll. I also ordered the fresh tofu spring roll as an appetizer. Their peanut sauce is delicious. Service is also great. They seated us quickly and had altogether the time to sit and eat didn't take long for a Friday.

6/17/2024. Free edamame!

The food here is solid, and go here during lunch hours on Monday through Friday for their specials that are budget friendly. Start off with their free edamame and be sure to check-in on Yelp for a free Thai iced tea (normally $4) which is creamy, sweet, and addictive, 5/5 stars! Also, for more layers of flavor and spice, ask for a side of their chili condiments. House made fish sauce, chili and chili powder. 9/07/2024. Choo Chee Salmon ($18.95): perfectly cooked salmon and veggies. Curry was mildly flavored with a hint of spice, 4.5/5 stars. Panang Curry with Chicken ($13.95): creamy sweet & spicy curry with plenty of veggies & chicken, 4/5 stars. 6/17/2024. 3 pcs fresh tofu roll ($4.25) from their Monday - Friday secret lunch menu. Added $3.25 for 3 pcs of chicken pot stickers from their Monday - Friday secret lunch menu. Added $3.25 for 2 pcs of vegetarian fried roll from their Monday - Friday secret lunch menu. Gaprao with chicken at 8/10 spice level ($11.95) from their Monday - Friday lunch special, 5/5 stars! Chicken Pad Thai ($11.95) from their Monday - Friday lunch special, 4/5 stars. The food comes out fast and hot! The servers are just as quick... and hot =)

Very disappointed, been coming here for years and always had great taste and flavor! This was the most bland Thai I have ever had! Something changed idk what but very sad...

Bowl of Tom Kha Soup

I ordered off Uber eats for lunch today so my review will be strictly based on the food. I felt a bit under the weather so I ordered myself a tom kha and panang curry. Unfortunately both dishes fell a bit short for me. Tom Kha: Portion size was great. I ordered a 5 in spice level expecting it to be moderately spicy since Thai restaurants usually don't mess with heat but this had an extremely mild heat. The shrimp I got as the protein was overcooked and rubbery. I love onion but this came overwhelmed with thick onions. 6/10 Panang curry: Portion size was great. The consistency was too watery for my liking. Barely any heat in the curry (level 5). The beef was also overcooked and very chewy. The bits of broccoli were my favorite. The rice was cooked perfectly. 6/10 If I were to come again, I'd go to the actual restaurant. I'm betting my proteins became overcooked because I opted for delivery instead of eating in. I'd up the spice level to a 8 (which seems daring for Thai) to get some of the heat I desired. Lastly, I'd opt for a noodle dish instead of a curry. 6/10.

I don't usually leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience dining here with my family…read more The evening started off great. The staff was friendly when we arrived, we were seated quickly, received our drinks promptly, and our food came out fast. The music was enjoyable, the ambiance was nice, and the restaurant had a modern, welcoming feel. Most importantly, the food was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious, and my kids couldn't stop talking about the crispy pork belly. Honestly, the food itself was 5-star quality. The issue was what happened as the restaurant approached closing time. About 10-15 minutes after we started eating, a staff member brought our check and asked us to pay even though we were still waiting on two mango sticky rice desserts that had not yet been served. I politely explained that we hadn't received all of our food yet, so it didn't make sense to close out the bill. The desserts were brought out shortly afterward. A different employee then returned and again asked us to close out the check, assuring us that we could continue eating while they finished closing. Although I was hesitant, I paid and explained that I would leave a cash tip after we finished since we were still dining. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service noticeably changed. No one checked on our table, our water glasses were never refilled, and the staff seemed focused on cleaning around us. The booth behind us was being cleaned very loudly while we were still trying to enjoy our meal. It made us feel rushed and unwelcome, and honestly took away from an otherwise great dinner. When I asked for containers for our leftovers, the interaction felt cold and standoffish compared to the friendly service we received earlier in the evening. My suggestion would be that if the restaurant is close to closing and doesn't want guests dining in, they should clearly communicate that and switch to takeout only. The food was genuinely delicious, and I would come back again--but not near closing time. Great food, disappointing end to the evening.

We were lucky and were able to grab the spot right out front. For drinks we each ordered a cocktail. It did take a bit for them to come out but once they did you can tell time and effort were put into making them. They were beautiful and all tasted great. We ordered 4 dishes to share, the wasabi scallop ceviche, crispy baby crab, braised beef panang, and crab fried rice. The ceviche was definitely one of my favorites. Super flavorful, fresh, with the perfect amount of wasabi. The crispy baby crab was savory and easy to eat, especially since you're eating the whole crab, shell and all. The curry in the braised beef panang was so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it. The crab fried rice was tasty and filling. For dessert we got the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were fresh and sweet. Overall pretty standard but still yummy. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. All the food came out in the timely manner. The vibe of the restaurant is casual but can be a little dressy for a nice date. Overall I definitely recommend a try here. Service was quick + amiable, and the inside of Sovereign was clean and inviting. The decor is dark and moody, with live plants throughout the establishment. Parking is metered & limited, but definitely worth the hassle.

Maybe they were just having an off day today, but I thought this restaurant was just barely OK…read more After hearing how good it is for so long I was a bit disappointed TBH. I went with one of my girlfriends tonight at about 5:30 PM. We were quickly seated. I ordered a mango lemonade, which came out quite fast and was beautiful. It tasted pretty good too. I asked the server for recommendations on the menu, but she seemed startled by my question, like she was not used to giving recommendations. The two items that she did recommend didn't really sound appealing so I went with Pad See Ew with mock duck. That's one of my go to dishes at a Thai restaurant. I asked not to have any spice level added to my food, but the food came out and was just generally lacking flavor. It was very bland and even though there was a generous portion of vegetables in the dish the mock duck was super mushy. All the places I've ever been to it's sautéed crispy. Also, the the noodles were all stuck together. Like if you put noodles in water to let it boil, but you don't stir them and they just boil like that in a clump. The restaurant was very cute inside. I would be open to trying it again just because I've heard so many good things that I can't believe this is their standard experience.

When we ordered, our server took the time to explain their spice scale (1-5), letting us know that a 1 is already about a medium spice level. We settled on mostly 2-3, but wow--the Thum Khao Poon (shredded green papaya salad) still packed some serious heat! Even my spice-loving kids were challenged. The server also gave us a heads-up that it's very fish-forward in flavor, which we appreciated and happened to love. The absolute standout of the meal was the Nam Khao Tod. It was hands down the family favorite--crispy coconut rice with pork sausage, crunchy peanuts, fresh herbs, and so many incredible textures and flavors in every bite. We could have ordered a second plate! We also had the Drunken Noodles with chicken, which were slightly oily in the best possible way, making them extra rich and delicious. The Chef's Special Basil Stir Fry with Crispy Pork was another winner. Our server brought over a chili vinegar that elevated the crispy pork to a whole new level--it was so good drizzled over every bite. Great food, thoughtful service, and plenty of dishes we're already looking forward to trying next time. Can't wait to come back!

It's become our go-to spot for Thai takeout over the past few years since it's close to home, and the food has always been consistently delicious. Some of our regular favorites are the Thai crispy rolls, chicken lettuce wraps, Tom Kha soup, red curry, yellow curry, and my absolute favorite--the braised beef Panang curry. What makes this place unique is the mix of other Southeast Asian cuisines, especially Laotian food,…read morethat you don't see offered in many other restaurants in San Diego. Since we've never had food from Laos before, we tried the Laos Famous Plate which was a mixture of all of the staples including several kinds of meat jerky, sausage, salad, and rice paper. It did not suit my palate as the papaya salad was very strong on the acidity with some vinegar and fermented vegetables, and the jerky was a little tough to get through. I liked the sausage though, soft and with a unique flavor that is worth the try. The Nam Khao pork had a lot of different flavors and textures mixing together which also makes for a unique dish. I love the peanuts and the lime on the side. The rice is deep fried and crunchy. There is some "cheesey" flavor to it, though there's no cheese. This is a good one for anyone who likes the sides or apps at a Viet or Thai place and wants to mix it up. Finally, we did go basic (or classic) and got a pad thai with shrimp. It's a little on the sweet side, and I do wish there was more shrimp and peanuts given, but the noodles itself is solid and the portion of noodles is good.
