We got the Kung Pao Chicken, fried rice, and salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings were the best we have had since we moved to the north county. Ordered in Mandarin and the lady was friendly, explained what the dishes were and knew how we wanted it done. Easy peasy. We ordered the crispy house noodles and beef with bitter melon in black bean sauce. My husband loved his noodle dish, it's good great wok Hei. Lots of ingredients, in fact it has more ingredients than noodles. Great value! My beef and bitter melon was delicious too. Again more dish ratio to rice. I had half to go since I couldn't finish. Our go-to Chinese restaurant. This place makes it hard for us to go to other Chinese restaurants. Conveniently located near our house and service is always on par. Very friendly and quick. We haven't ordered anything that we haven't liked yet. All the food is tasty and fresh. Plenty of parking, but the restaurant is hidden behind other businesses in the front. Make the walk it's worth it! Eventually, they can probably fix the inside to look cleaner. My boyfriend recommended this place and he seemed to have been craving their cream cheese wontons so we ended up going. It was my first time here and was I surprised at how much i loved the wontons. Boyfriend was right! The most crispy (yet not oily) wontons ive ever had!!! Normally this place is pretty decent... 3.5-4 stars... but it's sort of hit and miss. I'm guessing maybe it has to do with who the chef is any given day. Our last visit everything was pretty bad. The egg drop soup had a weird smell like it had been cooked or placed in a container that hadn't been washed well (if you know that sort of wet dog smell). The beef was tough rather than tender. The white rice was hard like it had been sitting in the open all day. The orange chicken was burnt and had odd burnt after taste. The only thing that was good was the vegetable fried rice. First thing you notice is how cute the restaurant is. There's a ton of seating too so likely little to no wait anytime you decided to pop in. The service was great, very attentive, but not in an overbearing way. The server women were super sweet. I'm a vegetarian so I had the orange tofu lunch special which was very reasonably priced. The tofu was super crispy on the outside despite being covered in a delicious sauce and soft and chewy on the inside. Perfect. We tried this place for the first time. Tacked in and hard to find in the big Von's mall, close to Akai Hana Japanese and Urge Gastro Pub. The food was, wow, delicious! We ordered our usual Chinese faves, BBQ pork fried rice and eggplant, and garlic chicken. All of them came right out of the wok hot (temperature) and had awesome flavors. Fried rice was rich and so tasty, so close to our all time fave Happy's Fried Rice, which was served at Happy's in Mission Valley long long time ago before Happy retired and sold the place. We still talk about the Happy's fried rice and could not find the replacement Chinese to match Happy's food a couple of decades later, but this place had the similar flavors. The eggplant was a bit spicy for me. Next time we will ask for no spicy. I liked that they use good amount of fresh vegetables. The prices are reasonable and the amount of food was generous. We had enough leftover for lunch! My husband is not a big fan of Chinese food and always drags his feet to try a new Chinese place but he thought the food was delicious and was happy that we tried out the place. The Chinese lady who served us was very nice and made us feel at home. They have a large dining area with booth seating but it seems that they do more takeouts than eat-in. In fact, we were the only ones eating-in close to the closing time Friday night after another couple who were there before us left. We almost didn't go in because the place looked empty and a restaurant being empty usually is not a good sign, but we made a point to at least try once. It's in the UPS plaza, a little further down from the CVS and kinda of close-ish to Lomica Dr. I very much enjoyed my dark meat, non-fried, wine/garlic/soy/green onion House Chicken Special (full size). The order also came with a small side of rice. Not sure if it was healthy, but it was good. I wonder if they can spice it up if I ask next time? We ate at a booth inside and there was plenty of other tables. Either than Air Conditioning is broken or they don't have AC. We're going through a heat wave, so it was very warm inside. War Wanton was HOT and hearty. Really hit the spot. The veggies were fresh and bright, wantons had good flavor. $10.29 for a 32 oz shareable bowl. Only wished for a few char siu pork slices, if I'm picky. My kids loved the Honey Walnut Shrimp. At least a dozen, I'd guess and all good sized for $15.50. Chin's wants $23 for the same dish...that's 48% more! Again, if I could nit pick, I'd like a little more spice, but I don't think that's the normal flavor profile of the dish. Now that it's a sit down restaurant it seems to have declined somewhat. The BBQ Pork Fried Rice was good, an abundant portion and richly flavored. The Szechuan Beef, not so hot. We tried Iron Wok for the first time tonight. The reviews were good. We walked in around 7:00 PM, there was no one else in the restaurant. I guess this restaurant does more takeout orders. We were helped right away. We started with the paper wrapped chicken which is usually a favorite of my husband and I. This paper wrapped chicken here was not good. It had a weird flavor. We also had the sweet and sour chicken and the bbq pork with veggies. Those dishes were good although I would have preferred it if the bbq pork was more tender. The sweet and sour chicken was white meat which was a plus. Just a heads up, steamed rice does not come with the entrees. You have to pay extra for that. We weren't aware and weren't told of the extra charge. read more

First time in a long time for us, but we are bored with the same old thing do we gave Iron Wok a look. Had beef with broccoli, chicken Chou mien and pot stickers. Called in the order and picked up. Great communication from Yelp and Grub Hub, and the food was ready when I arrived. They advertise less salt and oil and other unhealthy things, and the foods we ate delivered on that assurance. We are likely to try some other dishes, but I think I will drop in to order so the establishment can get their full payment, since the profit margin for restaurants is pretty slim. read more

Iron Wok will never be a Quick Wok replacement but don't let that detour you. The food was both fresh and satisfying. Service was good with a recent high school grad managing the front of house. Portion size of each plate was considered "sharable" for two people. I'd say that was true. We ordered dine-in but the bulk of their business is togo orders. We ordered various dishes and the one thing that stood out the most was how fresh their vegetables were expecially with the Beef with seasonal vegetables plate. Paid by card. Iron Wok is tucked away in the UPS plaza and offers a lot of plaza parking. I've gone here several times for take-out and have been very happy each time. The staff and food are great here and the portions are large for the price you pay. I decided to try this place because someone mentioned in their review their chicken wings were better than RM. Haha. Pretty bold statement so I was intrigued to try. Although not exactly like the chicken wings at RM, they are the closest I've found so far and I would definitely go back here for the wings to save me the drive down south during traffic. Loved the spicy eggplant as well! I was disappointed with the Kung Pao Shrimp so probably wouldn't get that again, but the seasoned vegetables were very good also. I also had the issue with the promised rice per entrée, and even confirmed I wanted the 2nd rice but only got 1. I'll overlook that though since I had rice at home and there was enough food from the large portions, but make sure you get the rice if you need it. I will be going back here again soon! read more

I was craving some good old Chinese-American food and found this place randomly. Went for the General Tso lunch special, which came with soup, rice, and a potsticker. A great version of the dish, it was still hot and crispy even though I had ordered it to go. The hot and sour soup was excellent as well, with a good amount of tang. I also ordered the chicken wings based on what I had read on here, and they were also great. The standard "salt and pepper" style that you find in many Chinese joints around San Diego, this version is as good as any of the "famous" places like Golden Chopsticks or Imperial Mandarin. The prices were great too. The lunch special was just over $11 for a very generous portion of food. Definitely will be back! read more
