I love the food at Charo chicken and have been to many locations. My experience here at this location wasn't the best due to the portion size and the price point. I ordered a 2 piece meal which costed around 16 dollars which isn't cheap for just 2 pieces. The breast seemed to be small and they cut some of the meat out. The chicken was dry so I asked for more sauce they put on it and they told me it costs 70 cents! So a17 dollar 2 piece meal I will stick to half chicken meals at El Pollo Loco for 15 dollars. This is why Charo locations are closing down. I will not return I can't pay that price for the lack of value. read more

Serves expired sauces that can pose health risks. I went in for a 12pc family meal and asked for sauces on the side. Went home to eat with our family and we pour our sauces onto our food without a thought it would be expired. We spit out our food immediately when we tasted the terrible taste in the sauce. That caused us to throw away a 5pc chicken meal because there was no way of removing the sauce off. I immediately contacted the store. Spoke with Moe the owner and informed him about the situation. He in fact did CONFIRMED the sauces were expired after revising them. I then, requested at least half of my refund. The following day I only received a $5 refund which I thought it was a joke. I contacted him again. He barely let me speak over the phone and I demanded half of my refund it was the least he can provide since he even confirmed the sauces were bad. He declined and only offered me $10 more of a refund and he said it was a "complimentary". It is very disappointing that the owner does not seem to care that this could have potentially cause harm to our health for consuming expired sauces. STAY AWAY or check your food before leaving this store. I highly recommend the Charo Chicken restaurant in Long Beach instead. read more

Seemed like on this hot day the AC wasn't turned on inside or something because sitting inside to eat was extremely hard as it was super hot. We ordered one 8 piece chicken with two sides and a spicy chicken breast sandwich. The sandwich looked nothing like the picture on the wall but tasted good. The chicken was moist. The spicy sauce they gave on the side complimented the sandwich perfectly. I was a bit disappointed in the chicken. Both garlic and cayenne were cooked properly but had little taste to them. The garlic mashed potatoes had the same issue about not having any flavor to then. The corn on the cob was normal. The small 2oz salsa that was given with the sandwich was also super bland. I remember I came here when it initially opened, but I then it suddenly popped in my head that hey, we have a Halal Charo Chicken at a reasonable distance from us, so I drove 20 minutes to come here an was pretty impressed: - Fully Hand-Slaughtered Halal: I was happy to find out that Charo Chicken in Lakewood has halal hand-slaughtered meat (HFSAA certified)! Food: I ordered the full chicken with the spicy garlic sauce, the Chicken Quesadilla, and a drink. The full chicken was super juicy and flavorful. The spicy garlic sauce added a nice kick to the chicken. The Chicken Quesadilla was the only disappointment. It was mostly cheese and tortilla, and very little chicken. It was bland and dry. Price: I felt that the prices were quite high for the portion size. An A La Carte Full chicken is $25 not including tax and tip which seemed a bit steep. I think they could lower their prices or increase their portions to make it more reasonable. Overall: I would recommend this place if you are looking for a tasty and halal chicken meal, but be prepared to pay a premium for it. This location has higher prices, smaller portions than other Charos. While I live 5 minutes from this location, we now drive almost 20 minutes to the location on Pacific Coast Highway. I've always liked this place. They had a spicy chicken soup that is no longer in the menu, but you can definitely do the chicken bowl with garlic and lemon and ask for spicy sauce on the side.
