Did a pickup order cause I was In the area (I live 40m away from here). The gal on the phone was very nice. When I arrived, there were three girls at the counter. They were busy on their phones and talking to each other and were not friendly. I still smiled and said please and thanks. When I signed the receipt I handed it back to the girl and she was already back on her phone not paying attention. So I put it on the counter with the pen and said thank you have a good day, and none of them said anything or even looked at me. It was very odd. My food order was fine though. read more

I had the chance to stop in twice over the weekend. We ate in before heading up to Phoenix, and ordered the wood fired bread on the recommendation of the waitress. She was right - it was fantastic! More than enough bread for 3 people, along with apricot jam, ricotta and fig jam for toppings! I would have been happy with just this! I also had the Farmhouse salad, which was just GREAT! The flavors came together so well. All of my favorite flavors! Pears, blueberries, candied pecans, goat cheese!! NOM!! On our way from Phoenix 2 days later, I popped in and ordered the pancetta and brie pizza to take home - the dough was thin and stretchy, and the pancetta perfectly crispy! I love Charred Pie!!! Service has been spot on every time. Love that there's a outdoor patio area so I can bring my dogs. I had the Farmhouse salad which was really good. As of late I'm taking advantage of the lunch special since my favorite pizza is pepperoni-light cheese-extra crispy!! Only once in the dozen times I've been was i unhappy. My salad had rotten greens which I picked out and showed them. I think I got a 15% discount, I honestly don't remember. I like the ambiance of the restaurant. We stopped going there for the past year due to poor service and quality of the food. The , we thought that maybe they had changed management and there would be improvements. Nope. Farmhouse salad was a disappointment: mixed greens were not fresh (had to pick rotten leaves out do the salad) and there was so little dressing with no flavor. The walnuts and goat cheese were the best part of the salad. We ate parts of the salad as the server never came back to check on us until a different t server delivered our pizza. If you like hard bulky crust ends, this is for you. The bottom was soggy and we could not eat the crust ends: over baked, way too "charred" and hard as a rock. The mushroom pizza lacked so much flavor that we had to get up and find a salt shaker. We finally ended our meal by walking out to the bar to find our server for the check. Won't be back. read more

We ordered 2 of the 14" pepperoni pizzas ( not really gourmet but others are.) Man talk about loaded, Massive amounts of cheese and I think who ever made it had hands of giant, because the amount of pepperoni was insane. We ordered 2 root beers. Not sure what brand they are using but it was delicious and came in the biggest mason jar I have ever seen. Over all 2 pizzas and 2 drinks under $40 is not bad in this crazy economy. Drove down from Phoenix to try this place. Really good pizza, salad and appetizers. The service was really terrible and slow, probably the worst I've had in a long time. The waitress was like on us to take our order and get waters out, and then we didn't see her again until she brought the bill. Someone else brought our food to the table. The waitress never came to check on us and didn't refill our drinks. We came at 3pm on a Sunday and there was hardly anyone here. Wow, wow, wow! Wish I had this restaurant at where I'm from! This place is a must try if you're in the area. Pizza is so good with the crust just right. Ambience is laid back and we had excellent service here. You'll see families just enjoying their time here. We went pretty wild and ordered 4 different pizzas for 4 of us and it even tasted really good the next day! Out of the 4 we ordered, my favorite from top: 1. Pancetta and Brie 2. Sausage and Fennel 3. Pepperoni 4. Pineapple Express (This might've been very good, I just don't like pineapple on the pizza) Their sauce is so good and love their crust. They have really mastered how to make good pizza! When you order the bread as an appetizer, they give you a variety to have you taste the bread with it such as apricot jam, onions, and ricotta cheese... it was so amazing. Definitely order it. Not only did we order pizza galore, I had the wonderful farmhouse salad. They give you bunch of blueberries and goat cheese. I wish it had a little bit more dressing but I absolutely loved it. Charred Pie is the ideal place to go for so-so food. I mean it's either hits or misses. The opening wood fired bread is yummy, but unless you tell them no garlic, the thing is inundated with it. And there is more than enough to expunge any vampire within 100 miles. The apricot jam on the side is a winner. The fried onions makes no sense. An olive tapanade would be better. I didn't try the ricotta cheese mix. The mains. Here comes hit and miss. Because we arrived at 5.30, I was able to get a mini pizza, which is available only during happ hour. Now, why this isn't available any other time, is baffling. They allow you to change toppings, so I ditched the cheese and added impossible sausage. They offer vegan cheese for $3 extra. Ripoff city. The topping change also set me back $3. Considering you can buy an impossible sausage roll for $6, you can see the profits here. Anyway the dish came out hot and I munched. Afterwards though I started to wonder if that was impossible sausage or not, because it was larger than I've seen at other places that have impossible sausage. I forgot to ask if it was, but since I don't eat meat or pork, I'm hoping it wasn't. The rest of the crew had the corn pizza. Again I'm not looking up the menu item here, but it's got some wild name with corn in it. It's quite popular according to our server and the menu spins it as a lot of corn on the pizza. I wish I took a picture, because I kid you note, each slice had two or three corn nibs on it. That's it. You expect a pizza loaded with corn bits; but it doesn't happen. The crew, which included the spouse and my sister-in-law, were bummed and even mentioned it to the server. To her credit, she said yes, that's how many kernels you get, and it seemed dumbfounded that someone would be irked about that. That's Charred Pie for you. I think if there was a legit wood fire pizza place in Oro Valley that delivered really good pies, then Charred would get, lit- ha, I made a funny. We had a reservation but didn't really need it as at 6PM on a Saturday there were still tables available and we were seated right away. Service was attentive if not a little indifferent. We split a pepperoni pizza and my husband ordered a Sicilian salad. Salad was OK with not a lot of protein and where that suffered from a lack of meat, our pizza had an excessive amount. So much pepperoni that neither one of us tasted any cheese -there's supposed to be both fontina and mozzarella - which was virtually absent. It was a big ol' pile of pepperoni on bread. Not good. With two glasses of wine our bill rang at $59 before tip; we wont be back. read more

It was a fairly nice day to be outside but would be quite uncomfortable when the weather gets hot. Our waitress arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and she was friendly and efficient. We all ordered various kinds of draft beer or wine, and we all liked them. Our friends ordered the house salad as an appetizer. It was quite large and tasty, and we all were nibbling on it. My spouse and I ordered the Black and Bleu pizza. It came with garlic crema, mozzarella, fontina, blue cheese, sausage and mushrooms. It was topped with fried onions and brandy crema. It was the perfect size for us to split, and we both enjoyed the combination of flavors. The kitchen was kind enough to make our friends a special pizza they had ordered on a previous visit. I am staying in Oro Valley for a year for work. We have been looking for some amazing pizza places, and after reading the menu, decided to give Charred a try. I actually arrived alone with the intent of taking left overs home to share and watch a BB game. First impression was that this is a neat little place with a decent atmosphere. That first impression lasted 2 minutes. I approached the Host/Cashier stand asking for a table for one. I was met with, you mean just one person? Once the shock was gone, the host tried to seat me at a dirty un-bussed table. Apology given and accepted, 7 minutes later I was finally sat. A 2-top table right next to the oven, I did enjoy watching the pizza maker. I am not sure at this point if my server was supposed to be the bartender or someone else, but after 9 minutes the bartender made eye contact and said she would be over. Unsure how long that took. I had already memorized the menu and was ready to order. My order consisted of: water diet coke house made Amaretto Flatbread app with toppings Sausage/Fennel Pizza What I received: water house made Amaretto Flatbread app with toppings The Amaretto was the only saving grace for the restaurant. The flatbread had such a large amount of garlic on it, I was unable to eat more than a piece. My Sausage/Fennel Pizza never arrived, well not until after I stopped the bartender and said, can I get some service? it had been 22 minutes since my app was delivered, and had not had a check in. I told her, please just box this up and have my pizza put in a box as well. No questions about how I like the app, or if I did not like the app since I only had one small piece. Manager walked by several times, made eye contact once and never stopped. Thankfully ISU was playing on the TV, I am an ISU grad and Iowa native. Fast forward to taking the pizza home(7 minute drive). The pizza was RAW, the toppings did not even stick to the pizza, they never had the chance as it was so under cooked. The amount of oil that dripped off the pizza made the crust stick to the parchment paper. We placed the pizza on a grill to finish cooking it. I made it through 1/2 a piece, my spouse 1 whole piece. The Pizza and the flatbread made it into the garbage. We then ordered takeout from another pizza place on N. Oracle....thank god they were open. Poor greetings, slow slow service, over priced, and sub-par food. Lesson learned....and will not be back. read more

There are a few reviews that say the service here is terrible but personally i thought it was quite nice. The waitress asked how everything was, we had silverware & plates at our table, and she even asked if everything was ok. I had the gyro sandwich & margherita pizza. Both were pretty good. The potatoes the gyro comes with are baked. Although i was expecting a little more flavor from the pizza sauce, overall this place was decent. Bathroom was clean and the place felt spacious. Also, it was nice & cool inside. I was super hungry & ate a whole pizza by myself. To me it was medium size which was just enough for me. If you're going to order pizzas here for a couple people i recommend getting 2 at least. No complaints although i had mixed feelings that our drinks came in jars but its big enough you don't really need refills. Nice area. Decent. read more

Something Has Changed at Charred Pie -- this restaurant has a lot of heart and the wait staff certainly gives it their all. But the food here used to be so, so much better -- interesting ingredients, tasty and well-prepared. No longer the case -- they have lost a lot in terms of presentation, quality, and preparation. I ordered the Farmhouse Salad and quite honestly, I thought it was a prank. There was easily the equivalent of an entire grocery-store sized, full bag of salad mix on my plate and that was pretty much it. I removed two heaping side plates of lettuce to see if there was anything else underneath. Here's the run-down: 5 blueberries, no feta cheese, 1 pecan, and 3 dime-sized pieces of pear. My husband's house salad was a similar construction -- all lettuce and little else. His meatballs were lukewarm and tasteless. I will say the brussel sprouts were good, but I wouldn't choose a restaurant because they have good brussel sprouts. Hoping Charred Pie can find their way back to quality food that is well-prepared. Charred Pie is our favorite pizza place in Tucson, and we have been going there frequently since 2020. Both the service and pizza has always been extraordinary, and in the early days the owner would check in with us to see if we enjoyed the meal. Our dinner tonight with 5 family members was a far different experience. Our reservation was at 6pm and the place was empty. The hostess seated us and we waited and waited for somebody to come to the table. After 15 minutes, with the place still empty, I went back to the hostess and asked if they had assigned a server to our table. The hostess assured me they had, then watched her go over to the bartender and chat with her. Eventually the bartender came to our table and took our drink and food order Another 20 minutes went by with no drinks, so I went over to the bar can could see that the poor bartender was covering about a dozen tables, plus the bar, clearly overwhelmed. I complained politely, then waited another 10 or 15 minutes before the drinks arrived. Then after another 15 or 20 minutes our food arrived, with the pizza not particularly hot and our requested "well done" pizza limp as a noodle. The limp pizza was returned to the oven and eventually returned more cooked, and we ate the less than ideal other pizzas. I do not blame the bartender who was really hustling, it seems more of a staffing issue than her performance. The staff was apologetic, so I will give them credit for that. That being said, this is by orders of magnitude the worst service I have ever experienced at Charred Pie. It will be a while before we return there for another pizza. read more

Margherita pizza with impossible sausage. It was a tasty combination. My mother had an Italian beef that was loaded with me. And they gave us an absolutely huge glass or shall I say jar of beverages. We also asked to bring out a bowl of chicken for our dog piper. And they brought out a healthy portion of sliced chicken breast. He was absolutely delighted. I can't stress enough how wonderful the staff here is. We eat on the patio with our dog. And they bend over backwards to accommodate us. Patio has misters and was super comfortable. And you can get a beautiful view of the Catalina foothills. If you're in Oro Valley or passing through it's a nice place to relax and enjoy a good meal. read more
