Chart House has been a long time establishment for fine dining throughout the beach communities in Southern California. They are known for their beautiful views of ocean and prime ribs. My first fine dining experience when we celebrated my graduation from high school was at Chart House in Long Beach. Since then, I have been benchmarking all prime ribs from other restaurants against the ones from Chart House. Prime ribs from Chart House are perfectly grilled resulting in tender and juicy beef meat. Since Chart House had joined the Landry Group, the restaurant chain has expanded its food menus and wine list as well. To celebrate my wife's birthday, my daughter and her boyfriend treated us for dinner at the Redondo Beach Chart House. We went all out by trying different items on menu. Starting with appetizer, we had their famous coconut crunchy shrimp. It's a popular item according to the waiter and it did live up to our expectation. The shrimps were crunchy and tasty. Since we like clam chowder and prime ribs as well as their popular chocolate lava cake, my wife and I both order a Chart Course set dinner which included a soup of choice, a main dish choice, and Lava Cake. I got the prime rib for my main while my wife chose the salmon. The prime rib was still as amazing as I remembered it when I dined at the restaurant for the first time. The tenderness and the taste were the best among all the prime ribs I have ever had. The seafood pot pie was fabulous. The creamy sauce was out of this world. Finally, our lava cake was the best. I finally visited Chart House after so many years and had a great time! My last experience here was for a work event and I could barely remember how it was (though I had my old Yelp review to remind me ;). My most recent experience was having dinner here with my mom and boyfriend. We were seated right by the window and this made for a perfect view of the sand and beach. It was the perfect view for a nice dinner. We started off with the Mediterranean hummus tasting. I was absolutely amazed when this came out. I didn't expect the plate to be so beautiful but it was. There were three different hummus flavors: roasted red pepper, kalamata and avocado. It came with pita bread and plantain chips. I loved the plantain chips and thought it was creative to pair this with the hummus! For the hummus; I enjoyed the avocado and roasted red pepper flavor the most. For our entries; we chose the Mac Nut Mahi, King Salmon and Paneed chicken. Each entree was beautifully plated similar to the Mediterranean hummus. I was surprised to see two pieces of romano panko crusted chicken with citrus butter. The chicken was excellent with the 3 potato garlic mashed and asparagus. The chicken was moist and tender. For dessert we got their hot chocolate lava cake. This is a must have at the Chart House and truly is their signature dessert! It consists of his Godiva liqueur, chocolate sauce, Heath bar crunch and your choice of vanilla or strawberry ice cream. The strawberry ice cream is actually made in house. It takes 30 minutes to make this dessert so best to order ahead. It comes out fresh and warm. It was a rich and decadent dessert. Dinner here was fantastic and loved the food and view. Had a 7:30 p.m. Rrservation was not seated until almost 8:30p.m. Just took actual Main Order. Unacceptable! We dined at the Chart House for the first time on Friday, December 17th with a party of four with a 7:30 reservation. We arrived and checked in on time and we waited about 10 minutes for our table. The hostess was kind of cold and not really friendly at all. She didn't say a word to us, no greeting, no nothing. We were seated at a nice table for four. The server was very friendly and very knowledgeable of all beverages and the menu. During the course of the meal, I had two peach mojitos which were absolutely delicious. The table shared an order of calamari, which was also a highly rated dish with our party. For my main course, I had the seafood pot pie which came more as a large plate of almost porridge, with a smaller DIY pastry crust on top. It was delicious as well. The table shared the chocolate melting cake for dessert. I would rate the food as a nearly perfect experience for us. The service was also pretty good, minus the hostess. We had an awesome experience last night. It was our anniversary and all the staff that we encountered acknowledged it. We had reservations at 7:30 and we were able to get a table to see the beach. We had dinner here. The food is very average. The oysters were tasteless and the sauce for the oysters is the same as for cocktail shrimp - it should be different! The lava cake was not warm at all - it should be hot or at least really warm. The waitress that served us seemed constantly in a rush, was not attentive to the point that we didn't even have the basic utensils and had to ask for them several times. I've been to this location twice for appetizers and a drink only and I made the exact same mistake twice. First I have to say that the staff is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. They are friendly and great at their jobs. It's unfortunate that the food isn't as good. Both visits I ordered the "seared" pepper ahi tuna and the second time I remembered why I didn't like it the first time. They clearly pre-make it and put it in the refrigerator until someone orders it. So it's all freezing cold - it doesn't have a "sear" taste or feel because of the freezing temps. The slaw has no flavor but it does also taste cold. And this time they forgot to add wontons, which is perfectly fine because the first time I ordered it the wontons were soggy. read more

I used to come here all the time with my family, but the vibes aren't the same. It's a hit or miss with this restaurant, when it comes to service. BOOK A RESERVATION ON OPENTABLE. I went on OpenTable on our way to the restaurant, and decided to just walk in because there was availability for every time slot. Arrived, was told it'd be a 10 to 15 minute wait, 15 minutes at max. We waited about 30 minutes. We were seated and there were two open tables by the window. After waiting a while to be seated, we were seated in the back, and after asking to be seated near a window we were told it'd be another 35 minutes (we'd already waited 30 minutes). We watched another 10 minutes pass by and nobody occupied the other tables near the window. We wanted to leave, but we decided to dine anyways-- we were going to leave if we didn't enjoy appetizers. However, our server Samone was fantastic. Our calamari was served just under warm, but the sauce and seasonings were a great blend. Oysters were great. One oyster had barely any meat and shouldn't have been served, but I wasn't trying to look like a cheap ass-- complaining about one oyster. Avocado stack was great. Filet Mignon amazing. Prepared just as I requested. The Chimichurri Steak was over cooked. That, we sent back and had remade. It was cold and tough. The second time it was brought it, was cooked perfectly. The Lava cake dessert was fabulous. Overall, I would dine here again, but it wouldn't be a place I'd be dying to come back to or recommend. I've been here 3 or 4 times. This year, we came for their Mother's Day brunch. The front desk staff and valet folks were cool and the service was seamless... Until the server behaved like we were eating at a truck-stop diner the entire time. Overall, I would describe her as impatient, brusque, lacking in any sense of formality, and intrusive. This is not the norm for this restaurant, but I understand hiring has been difficult recently. Anyway, we sat down and she basically tried to read us the whole drink menu, completely unprompted. Go. AWAY. It's 11 AM. Also, we can read. Instead, we had to sit there through her obnoxious droning until she paused long enough for me to let her know we were going to think about it for a moment. Yikes. She had gross, worn-out, metallic-blue fake nails on... this is an issue of taste, but I think it says something about the restaurant's aesthetic standards. Hygiene matters, and this includes nails. My dad's fork was also dirty. :/ If you care about all that, and/or don't want someone reaching directly across your face for another person's water glass multiple times during a meal, just.. avoid. She checked in like 3 times over the course of 40 minutes, which is wayyy too many times, imo, bc every time was like an annoying question and not just a peek to make sure everything was all right. Came to celebrate a birthday and definitely did not disappoint. I enjoyed the filet mignon with the grilled shrimp, it was cooked exactly the way I wanted it and wasn't dry (which is very infamous for extra well steaks). The mashed potatoes were alright, not too bad but could've used a bit more garlic to my liking but it was good. The star of the evening was definitely the crispy coconut shrimp!!! You must try them, they're amazing and come with three different sauces. We also tried an order of asparagus which was decent but a bit tough, and the shrimp avocado mango stack was just not my favorite thing but everyone else enjoyed it. The staff were extremely friendly and very welcoming, and even accommodated our request to sit by the window to have a view of the sea! It was a very nice experience and such a kind gesture! This post is mainly about the wait and reservation system. I made a reservation for the Saturday before Mother's Day by phone call and asked to have a window seat. I was told they would do their best to accommodate the request. I called the day before to confirm. Our reservation was at 6:45 pm and when we checked in we were told window seats were first come first serve and the wait for window seats was 1 hour and 45 minutes. When we checked to see the wait time for a table without a window view, we were told 10 parties were ahead of us and the wait would be 30 minutes. The wait ended up being over an hour. Finally, when were told that a party had cleared a table and it would be 5 minutes to clean the table we ended up waiting an additional 25 minutes. Then, we had to flag down multiple waiters for a napkin. The girls at the hostess stand were also incredibly rude. We were also here on Christmas Day and made reservations with a similar situation. read more

Attended my very dear friend's wedding reception here. It was love at first sight, as the Chart House in SF doesn't lead to a beach. The one in SF is at the Pier aka Fisherman's Wharf, so it overlooks dirty ocean water LOL! You can't walk along the beach like the lovely newlyweds and have the photographer shoot away. Besides, SoCal is much warmer than NorCal. Who would've thunk a wedding reception along the beach in November, only in SoCal, followed by the stunning sunset. Those in attendance were speechless, I know I was, and that never happens HA! Service was on point, and three hours of open bar ~ endless libations for everyone. But first, let's toast to the bride & groom. The hors d'oeuvres were outstanding, and the servers were standing by immediately to take your napkins/skewer sticks; nothing left behind. Good thing there wasn't tasty ice cream on the menu, as the service was so amazing, I felt like the movie bit in "Pretty Woman" when Julia Roberts wanted to finish her tasty ice cream, and the server took it so fast, she had to put her spoon down...etiquette people. My gal pals don't eat anyway, so I'll eat for them. The staff were definitely on their game; management trained them well. Onto the food, it was buffet style, my kinda style actually :) Salad was mixed greens, entrees were roasted prime rib, macadamia crusted chicken breast, orange glazed salmon, pastas were angel hair pomodoro served with fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, lemon & parmesan cheese with side dishes of coconut ginger rice & yukon garlic mashed potatoes. This place is absolutely garbage. Wasted Mother's Day dinner. Reservations was at 745. We didn't seat till 845. Half of the items weren't available. The shrimp was crap, store bought frozen pre cooked shrimp, steak quality was par to eating at norms. My mom wasn't able to get the food she wanted to get. The desert was forced upon us, even tho the table next to us got desert we wanted. They took my sons food and wasn't done eating. I ended up not eating cause they had nothing else I wanted. The only reason the overall rating is two stars because the food was good, otherwise it would be no stars. I am very disappointed with the service that was provided. I had a reservation at 7:30pm on a Saturday night, arrived within the grace period and had called prior to notify the restaurant my partner and I were running late. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and asked if we had a reservation and the hostess asked who's birthday we were celebrating. It was my birthday and her question of "who's birthday is it" was the only acknowledgment I received the entire night. I had seen other reviews that people would receive cards on the table with a nice set up. I received none of that. I saw other parties celebrating a birthday and they were being given a slice of cake with a candle (not sure if we needed to ask for that). I've been to other sister restaurants of Chart House and have had a better experience when celebrating. Secondly, the male server took an awful long time to ask us for our drink order and when he did come, he made a comment of "you've been sitting here for a while, do you know what you'd like to eat?". My partner and I wanted to know why the there were difference in accommodating service to others around us. We would see our server with another table giving and saw he'd give exceptional service to them and not the same with us. We even considered possibly our difference in ethnicity. Our server did not give us our food, being he was have a full conversation with another table. He gave them their dessert and stood there until they finished. A cook brought it out and asked if we needed anything else. The food was great. I can count on one hand the number of times our server came to check on us and ask if there was something we needed. Lastly, the server must have felt the need to emphasize the amount of gratuity that was suggested as if we were unable to do the calculations on our own. Made us feel like we didn't know how to calculate gratuity or would give him an amount that was too low for him. Again, made us wonder if he did this with all customers or just the ones that were also from our ethnicity. Overall very disappointed and uncomfortable to think we may have been treated different based on the color of our skin. Very unfortunate that we weren't celebrated the way others were and weren't welcomed the same either. We probably won't be revisiting this restaurant again. read more

As everyone knows, the last several months of 2020 have been very challenging for many. Restaurants in California are dealing with changing regulations and requirements and are doing what they can to survive. For New Year's Eve 2020, the Chart House offered what seemed to be a great deal. Two servings of lobster bisque, two prime rib dinners with mashed potatoes and coconut shrimp and two lava cake desserts for $80. Then, for $40, you could add on 4, yes four, 4-ounce lobster tails. So for $120 before tax and tip (I know not your average meal cost) you wound up with enough food for four meals. Really, we had it for New Year's Eve dinner and for dinner again the next night. The only item that was a little light in quantity was the soup. They came in small thermal cups and we definitely would have liked to have more as it was tasty but lacking pieces of lobster. Both of our prime rib pieces were very generously sized and cooked perfectly if you like medium rare, which we do. The flavor was great but the horseradish cream sauce did not have enough kick for either of us. They also provided a nicely sized side of mashed potatoes which were also seasoned correctly. The surprise was the number and size of coconut shrimp, or should I say shrimps! We each had four, again, nicely sized, butterfly cut shrimp. I've posted pictures of the containers before we divided it up. As mentioned, for all this, tax and tip for just over $150 for two, one hell of a way to celebrate the ending of the nightmare that was 2020. We'll be watching their emails and website for future specials, we thoroughly enjoyed this meal and would consider it again for a future, special event. One caveat, I would strongly suggest picking it up yourself and also completely checking your order before you leave. While I was there waiting to pick up our order, they received several calls from customers who received their dinner with some missing items. Also, the timing of the pick up wasn't as precise as suggested. We made a "reservation" to pick it up at 5:30 and didn't get our order until almost 6pm. There were about 8 people inside also waiting, some individual customers, some food delivery servers. So...plan accordingly. But, again, we were very happy with the portions, flavor and price for this celebration meal. Enjoy! read more

It was the Night To Be Much Observed... We made reservations at the Chart House for Saturday evening on March 27th and requested a window seat. I know due to Covid seating is limited which makes it even more difficult to fulfill a special request without a long wait but as soon as we got there, management was able to pull it off. We had a beautiful view of the sunset. My parents have been many times but it was my first time going. Our waiter, Fredrick D. was excellent. He made suggestions for the wine and food. We already had our entrees pre-planned in our heads but we were open to the drinks. We started the evening off with salads, whiskey sour for me and a dirty martini for my dad. I ordered the prime rib. My dad had the filet mignon and my mother had the chicken dish. Everything was properly prepared and absolutely delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and professional, just wonderful. It was such a beautiful evening and the atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. My first visit here was with a group totalling eight people. We ordered a few plates of oysters and a couple of shrimp cocktails to start. The oysters were fresh and tasted great. The shrimp were of a very good size and were a nice way to start our meals. For my entrée I had the salmon with vegetables on the side. My wife had the crab stuffed shrimp so I gave it a try and it was also very good. The wait staff were all friendly and efficient and we got us whatever we needed. The restaurant is easily accessible from the parking garage so thats very convenient. While I don't think I would regularly eat here because it can be pricey, going out for dinner for my mom's birthday here was a solid choice. It is obvious that Chart House took the time to make us feel welcomed and special. I made a same-day reservation for dinner, requesting for a table near the window. While I was told it was first come, first serve, we sat one table away from the window. Not quite at the window, but close enough. The windows are so large that we could still get a glimpse of the ocean from where our table was, so we didn't mind. Since we had a reservation, we didn't wait long at all. Probably like 30 seconds before we got called by the hostess! There were definitely people hanging out and waiting for their table still when we arrived. To our pleasant surprise, the restaurant took the time to creat personalized menus with my mom's name at the top, and the hostesses even signed their name on a birthday card to her! Very sweet personal touch. My mom exclaimed that it made her day. (I was surprised, too!) We ordered a very berry mule, mango mojito, and a wine suggested by our server. Excellent. All of them. (We cheated and tasted a bit of each other's drinks.) The complimentary bread was served warm with butter. We asked for another batch because we particularly enjoyed the dark brown bread (not quite sure exactly what it was). So good. For dinner, I ordered cesar salad and crusted salmon with potatoes. I had to share the salad because it was too large to finish on my own. Definitely a generous portion size! I kind of wished the crusted part of my salmon was a little more cooked on top, but I still finished it all. (I was hungry!) My pops ordered the clam chowder which I tried --- excellent. Both my parents finished their respective dishes (halibut and salmon). For desert, to all of our surprise, the server lighted a pink candle atop a mud pie slice that we shared together! At this point, we were ALL stuffed. Couldn't even finish it, but it was also very good. As far as parking goes, you can either valet ($6) or park in public parking next door (also $6) and then walk through the garage. Eh. Overall, Chart House is a little hidden gem. For the past few weeks I've been planning a special dinner to treat my family. I ended up choosing Chart House. 1. For the view 2. Delicious looking menu. I made our reservations just before sunset. When we got there the parking lot was full, after driving around not finding a spot we decided to still go into the lot full. Once he got there the worker was ok with us staying. Once we got in the restaurant they said they were running late. Never updated us and finally sat us after 45-50 minutes. At this point the sunset was long gone. And from there it just got worse. Our drink orders were never taken as a whole party. Every man for himself if you caught her to give your order. Our food took over another hour.Many of us got prime rib and were very happy with it but a couple others got halibut and it was horrible. For dessert we had 6 of their signature hot lava cakes. There was no lava it was more like chocolate syrup and only 2 of them were hot, the others just warm. All and all I saved money to take us there and frankly a $$$ restaurant should've been better service and food. After this review Scott left me a voicemail, I immediately returned his call so we could discuss the event. They came back to me said he was busy and he never called again. read more

Let me start by saying, I didn't realize I was coming to have KBQ the ventilation on the room was horrible..I'm also highly disappointed on the wait time. We had a 815 reservation. We even got there 15 mins early and the 1st thing we where told that they there running 20 mins behind so we still decided to wait not to be seated until a little after 9pm no management was ever seen up front up until the end of course it closing time. I will never come back again it was a waste my time, money and gas over all two thank chart house for ruining my night I'm also not rating the food because it's just not worth it. read more

The atmosphere and decor is worn and dire need of updating. The food is awful. My creamed spinach tasted sour as if it were sitting out for a few days. My prime rib was fatty and bland.
