We came to Tony's on the Pier to celebrate an award I had received, and for a much needed date night with my husband. This place has been here for decades! We hadn't been back here for over ten years. The service was outstanding, the view of the ocean was magnificent, the food was amazing! A great place for a seafood dinner with a very reasonable price! We started with their famous Mai Tai that comes in a souvenir glass, followed by clams casino appetizers. I had the twin lobster tails with a baked potato, and my husband had the crab stuffed shrimp. Each dinner comes with soup and salad. I had the clam chowder, and my husband had the salmon chowder. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and very tasty! For dessert, we had their version of chocolate mousse, which was the only disappointment of the dinner. The mousse was more like a milk chocolate pudding. Total with tax and tip was about $248.00 (we tip 20%). Considering the amount of food and the type of meal, this was very reasonable which included cocktails and dessert. We couldn't finish the main course, so we now have leftovers for another meal. Win-win!!!! read more

This place has been around forever, I remember our parents give us some money while they sat here and had drinks. We came just to cool down after dropping off someone at the airport. I had an old-fashioned. It was OK, no Luxardo cherry, no single ice cube, but the same premium price. When you come here, most people know this place for their famous Mai Thai. They let you keep the cup. My wife had a Tito's and tonic, and it was very strong. Good for them, they know how to pour. The reason you come here is for the ambience, the views and that ocean breeze. I have been going to Tony's on the Pier since 1980.... I took my Main Squeeze back then. Since then we married had 4 kids which we took to Tony's on a regular basis. I always Ordered the Tony's Halibut, Fried Mozzarella and Clam Chowder. She ordered the Cioppino and kids loved the escargot. I would get Mai Tai's and I have tons of glasses including the gold Anniversary ones. Last year, I went to Tony's and it was AWFUL!!! The Food was not the same. The Carpet was dirty, The Drink was close but not it, and no multiple Mai Tai glasses. I vowed not to go back. Today, I wanted to go back and read some comments from some regulars and guess what it appears I need to stay gone. Tony's should offer if you don't like the food and you stop eating it, you should be refunded or not made to pay, but tip the service worker for the performance. My friends and I wanted to grab some drinks while visiting Redondo Beach Pier. Tony's has a bar on the upper level second floor. We wanted to sit on the lower level right next to the open windows, but was told couldn't sit there unless you order food. It wasn't busy thought maybe server let it slide. Nope! We ended going upstairs instead. Really quiet with good views of the pier and ocean. I ordered a mai tai while my friends were sipping on martinis. Bartender took care of us with his generous heavy hands. Drinks were strong, but we weren't complaining. We really enjoyed our cocktails! It was nice to sit down spending some quality time together. Overall, we've always liked Tony's. The view is fantastic, and while the food is only adequate, the location and atmosphere have always been the main draw. One comment that especially stood out to us was when he questioned my boyfriend in a way that suggested he should be "in control" rather than letting his woman lead. The remark felt outdated and disrespectful, and it left me feeling that I was being treated differently because I am a woman. He also had an aggressive tone and at one point suggested that we should "take this outside," which was completely inappropriate and made the situation feel intimidating. What made it worse was that after making rude or confrontational comments, he would laugh, as if our discomfort was amusing. It's unfortunate because Tony's has a beautiful view and a great setting, but service and how guests are treated matter. I love coming to Tony's. Last time we were here we specifically came on a storm surge day in December to watch the waves crash against the pilings of the pier and enjoy some sunset Mai Tais in the signature Tony's glasses. We had dinner that night and it was really delicious. This visit was just after lunch. We were looking for a drink and a nibble and Tony's staff was happy to oblige. Upon ordering MaiTais, we were informed that the signature, comp take home glasses were currently out of stock. Not a problem, we already have a collection. Hubs chose cheesy garlic bread and I was excited to try the calamari. MAN! Lightest and best calamari I have EVER had! And Hubs' bread was also YUM! Service is always great! Attentive, but respectful, understanding this special spot that begs guests to slow down and cast a memory or two back. 70s Yatch Rock plays perfectly in the background and the soul exhales. Although this is a well known place we will not return! We were only in the bar (so I am not speaking about the restaurant) . Their happy hour menu is largely fried foods and we thought them greasy and they tasted like the oil was old. My husband ordered a Pina Colada and it arrived and was far from good. It seemed they did not add any coco Lopez at all! He had asked for a double shot of rum and that didn't happen! We asked the bartender about the quality and he said that was how they make them. We asked for our bill and discovered they charged him $22.00 for the horrific Pina Colada's! A total ripoff. The ambiance is pretty rustic which is fine but it didn't feel clean and inviting. We had planned to have an appetizer and a drink then go downstairs for dinner but after our bar experience we went elsewhere for dinner. First thing when we walked in the door, a glass bottle shattered on my girlfriend's head from 2 stories up, and none of the employees seemed to care. We pushed through. We ordered the Oysters Rockefeller which had a mound of spinach that way overpowered the tiny oysters underneath. They were hard to choke down. We shared the Charbroiled Seafood Combination which was listed on the menu as "our most popular dish." It was very tiny portions for $35, however the waiter was nice and brought us an extra soup since we were sharing. The shrimp needed deveined and the fish was way undercooked. Even though the sun wasn't shining, the food and ambience were outstanding. My favorite is clam chowder and sand dabs! Very rare to find a restaurant that serves delicate sand dabs.
